I have been waiting for the black or white dial from my AD here in the USA since October of 2019, but despite their assurances, as of June 2020, still no call. Which is why when I had the chance in late December 2019 to buy the two tone version with the black dial in Hong Kong, I jumped on it. No tax or duty and the price ended up being just $1K more than the steel version in the USA with 8% sales tax. I have 7-5/8" wrists, I'm an international airline pilot, and this watch is perfection! BTW, I have been wearing a GMT Pepsi since 1983, a watch I also purchased new in Hong Kong. The perfect beginning and end to my professional aviation career.
That is a great story about the two Rolex watches on either ends of your career and that's a great deal you got on the Sky-Dweller. The GMT from 1983 must look amazing with all the patina and I'm sure it's got some stories to tell.
@@CultivatedWorld Thanks! My '83 16750 does looks amazing as I've taken good care of it over these past 37 years. It's never been to Rolex for service, four and a half times to independent Rolex watch makers, so I still have the original dial and hands... Awesome ivory patina! The last minor service was six months ago with "Beau" of LA Watch Works... A very minor case refresh, original hands restored and NOS bezel insert. I still have the previous two faded inserts, plus it's a one owner, "full set" watch.

I saw this on your Instagram page recently great picture. I agree this this is such a beautifully designed timepiece. I've seen this in person and I must say I really liked the matt creamy white dial, it definitely gives it that clean classy finish. But I still like the blue dial 😋 I'd love to see the blue and white together 😏 make it happen guys!!!!
Tough choice if the Yacht Master II cal.4161 isnt more complicated as it is a programable count down, fly back/fly forward chronograph. Yet it also has a mechanical memory which puts it in its own world exclusive category. The Sky Dweller has its own mechanical uniqueness in the way it keeps time and date but lacks the direct interaction the YMII has and doesn't have the ability of a mechanical memory the YMII does. Both movements are a masterpiece of Rolex engineering and a shame the average Rolex buyer is lost to this and tends to buy the simple same old Sub/GMT type watches.
The best part of the sky dweller is that it’s a sport watch with a fluted bezel. It gives it that more dressy look while still being a steel watch.
The black dial on the new jubilee bracelet is stunning too. I had the privilege of trying one on wrist recently - wow!
Great review on a lovely watch. I think the decision to make it in steel was purely economic on the part of Rolex. The more you sell even at a lower price the better the return for them and the further they push their influence as shown by the fact that they are almost impossible to find. This may not have been the case had they kept them produced in precious metal only.
Of course i love the white steel Skydweller! A great decision to get the price lower and make it available to more customers and collectors. Great video by!

Excellent video as always 👍 And excellent choice by Rolex to offer this model in 904L. Now if only they would be available at the AD so people could actually get one.
I think it was a good idea. After all, the prohibitive price point of the precious metal version resulted in slow sales making this great watch look like an unloved dud. By making it in steel, more of us could afford and enjoy this wonderful watch which may lead to people wanting to upgrade to the full gold version of the watch later in life when they can afford it. This seems to happen with Subs and GMT II's where people buy the two tone and land up getting the solid gold version later. Speaking of those two models, are you planning reviews of the two tone Bluesy and the Rootbeer? Love your content, keep up the great work!
We think you are right, this may have been Rolex's thought process with the Sky-Dweller to avoid it being considered a "dud". However, we didn't contemplate the idea of people upgrading to full gold later on in life but this is also a very good point.
We have many other Rolex watches lined up including the "Root Beer". Watch this space.

What a stunning beautiful piece,I were say the sky dweller is the win win rolex line up,is definitely on top the Daytona if put side by side,one more thing I have to say the sky dweller got the special 9001 movement rolex ever designed.The sky dweller is the top of the tree.

Steel is a good idea to me. The way I see it is all Rolex models should be offered in all metals. The more choice the better. They probably offered the SkyD in steel because they didn't sell many gold models. So when it suits Rolex, they'll happily "downgrade" the metal. Same story as the ceramic Pepsi.

We agree, we think the Sky-Dweller was a slow seller in precious metals and they made the decision to go to steel to cash in.
Will this watch go up in the future ???? I just bought mine , it is insanely cool and the silver face really fit well with the whole watch

@@CultivatedWorld after a month I bought exploler 1 couse I love that simple not shouting look. Now I am thinkibg about some gmt on jubliee or rolesor sub with blue dial. My sky dweller is rolesor too just love this pratical combination of steel and yellow gold !

Great review. Can you say what your wrist diameter is? This would give a great reference measurement for your audience to consider against the case diameter.... 👍🏼

Yes it does, but with oyster flex only being available in precious metals, it’s top heavy on the strap. Apart from this, my 336238 is perfect IMO.

You think a skydweller would work with a suit ??
In my opinion you generally have to be a bigger guy for the Sky-Deller to work with a suit.
@@CultivatedWorld Im 6 foot and have a 7.25 inch wrist . The lugs don’t expand my wrist so that’s good. Should I trade it for a DJ 41 fluted and actually bank a few bucks leftover ?
Suit it and own it! Could even detune it with an aftermarket leather / rubber strap, which makes it wear smaller
