Given the technical complications this watch sports and the numbers of parts (about 50% more) this ROLEX is really value for money and most likely a solid investment going forward as pricing could go up in the future. Haven't been aware that it is equally hard to get and that the blue dial/steel case seems to be among the most desired models currently. I hope one day it will be mine!

If they can shrink this watch and movement down to 39 or 40mm (a modern oyster case width) and get the case height to 12mm, this becomes the ultimate Rolex. It's got the water resistance, the annual calendar, and the GMT function plus a big power reserve. It would be an instant classic.

This watch is beautiful. Great engineering by Rolex. One of the drawbacks for me is it’s height and diameter. Having worn a regular DJ, Tudor BB and just tried on the DJ 41, I think this watch would be more than I need/want on my wrist. I’ve toyed with whether or not I’d put it on my wish list and as cool as I think it is, it just isn’t practical for me at this moment and seems bulky. I’ll more than likely sell the BB at some point and transition to a DJ41 full time. It’s big enough and slim enough for my wrist!

I have bypassed the SS dilemma, a bimetal champagne dial Skydweller bought from AD at retail, to me more elegant, less than an SS model on the gray market. Most of my collection have a GMT or World time function, besides date the most useful complication for me!! The Bimetal Skydweller is in my opinion a bargain, incredible complication, very easy to use and read, solid construction and I cannot think of anything on the market that competes at the price point??? @Alex-lx2pg 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Super3xtr4 Yes, I realize that 42mm is not small, but I felt there were quite a few features put into this watch for the size that it is. There are other manufacturers that have larger diameter watches and do not have a fraction of the functions the SkyD does. Back to the Rolex line, the Yachtmaster II and the DSSD have the large size but not as many functions as the SkyD. I do know there are other companies that have even more complicated watches like Patek Philippe and Jacob & Co, but some of their prices are for deep pockets. The SkyD is very appealingly priced.....If you can get one at MSRP that is. I don't know....this model was pretty impressive to me at least. :)

FYI, you can get the black and white SkyD within a couple of months as there is a pretty low demand for both of them, was offered both instead of the blue SS, which is the one I "ordered"
And, this is anecdotal from a conversation with an AD, they apparently share the inventory # with the gold variants, hence the rather unprecise delivery times by some ADs when you are being told the list "estimated" delivery/pick up time

The SS blue dial is amazing and the premium is crazy. So the tow tone is actually a pretty good choice. Also the first generation precious metal with the roman dial and contrasting GMT wheel, they don't look that good. They finally got it right with the baton markers and GMT wheel with the dial color.

Agreed the Sky dweller is the best watch Rolex makes. The annual calendar is simply genius. The use of the months around the edge of the hour markers allows a lot of information to be displayed without crowding the dial. The bezel system is the best way to manage all the features of the watch. It's one of those watches that when you see it you wonder why no one had thought of doing this before.

I had no idea this existed and I'm blown away.
With the GMT complication and the ability to adjust the date in two directions, is it still "bad" to adjust the date between 21:00 and 03:00? I've read that doing so damages other watches. Is it still a risk with this one?

Well I learnt a lot there. Very clever. Personally I don’t like the milled edge, but I can appreciate the engineering . Great video by the way.

Servus Jenni.....This is the best ever review for this very interesting movement, specs and design.....I own OP....but seeing Dweller, I found it more interesting....are there any competitor can do it...in a bit smaller? Thanks.

I enjoyed your review and actually kind of liked the timepiece. However, I still generally go for a 36 mm stainless Datejust with white gold fluted bezel or a no date stainless sub. I also enjoy the comments. Be safe.

I like it a lot except for the 42mm size, that kills it for me. I absolutely love the efficiency of the complication - conveying the maximum information in the most simple way possible. I wonder if the 42mm size was necessary to fit the movement? If it was only 4 extra gears then perhaps not. I'd buy a 40mm in a heartbeat, even at resale prices.

I have the all white gold model with the Roman numerals, and it's a heavy beast! It's also not very comfortable because the crown keeps banging into the back of my wrist. My ideal Sky Dweller would be rose gold on Oysterflex strap. I can't overstate how comfortable the Oysterflex strap is. I wish I could have been able to see into the future so I could have waited for that to be released.

One thing I like about this watch over others in their line up is the innovation. I think it’s a bold release by Rolex and it’s still as charming to the eye as any other a Rolex. When you factor in the price of the datejust 41 this is a comparative bargain given the innovation and complication

Exactly my thoughts which is why I purchased one last December. I love the watch and I've owned a 40mm GMT Pepsi since 1983. It's perfect on my 7-5/5"/19.3cm wrist.

    Hi Jennie,
Love your videos and this one so much because i just finally got my SD today. It is like a dream come true. However, i found an issue but I don’t know it is my opinion only. Upon closer inspection after i get my SD i see the crown on the SD is not very flush with the case, where i see the gap between the Crown and Case after finger tightened is slightly bigger than other Rolex models. I am pretty sure the gap is slight bigger than my OP41 or DJ41.
Please share your thoughts. Do you think it is normal that SD models have slightly bigger gap? Or mine is not normal and should be send back to AD for checking? It would be great if you could do a small video on this issue because I’m so freak out.
Thank you for checking out my comment. Have a good day

Have an early IWC eternal calendar (first ceramic watch ever) and would still pick up a skydweller in steel if given the opportunity to buy at RP. And I don't sell watches for profit (yet). So, yeah, most important Rolex since the Padellone.

Great watch. It would be my choice for a Rolex dress watch, certainly over a two tone DJ or even a Gold DD, just because of the complication. That blue dial is excellent!.
