I'm really liking what I'm seeing. Outstanding expansion, accuracy. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of this ammo perform as time goes on. It's wild to see a 5.7 mushroom like that. Thanks for the video. 🤠👍
Thanks Ron. Except for that one malfunction, I'm sold on this round. The good news is FN, Hornady and AAC all load this bullet. So we should be able to see how they work in comparison to one another. Thanks again!
Thanks for another great test, as usual. That Hornady Black was really impressive, the expansion was as good as I've seen. At the moment I've been using Gold Dot ammo as my self defense load, that might change after this test. I also have the PSA Rock with the threaded barrel, I ordered mine in the , I think they call it sniper gray. I absolutely love the color. Again, thanks for the test, and I hope you have a amazing vacation, have a wonderful time with your Grandson and family. With my Son and his family staying with us the last couple of weeks I have had a blast spending time with my 10 month old Grand daughter. Building memories that will last a lifetime. Have fun and take care my friend.
thanks Joe. Yes, and I think, you'll have to tell me, the critical duty may be a little better than this one in terms of traditional expansion. I brought some speer gold dots last week to see if I could test but ran out of day light. Another time. One tap is AAC, Hornady Critical Defense and Elite Ammo T6B. Can't remember the order but something like that. I can't wait to see my 2 yr old grand son, he is a hoot! Wish we lived closer, hopefully some day. Thanks again and enjoy that precious time my friend!!
This series is outstanding. Speer was poised to take over the 5.7 personal defense market with their Gold Dot, but inexplicably they got cold feet and neutered their offering. I'm hopeful that Hornady will head in the opposite direction. AAC is rumored to be working on a personal defense round. Hopefully that comes about and there's a new episode for your series. Thanks again.
That’s would be great! More people developing rounds for this cartridge is great and what’s been sorely missing. I’ve got critical defense and Elite Ammo T6B coming up. AAC vmax video came out today.
Very much so. Really bugged me.this is new ammo from Hornady. A problem with ammo? Problem with Hornady? 5.7 can have lacquer build up too in the gun. I got it cleaned after this range day and it’s been flawless since. But…the next video was on the same range day and was worse. I did shoot 23 rounds after this with this ammo and it ran fine. I did buy some more and I’ll test. You know me.
Not particularly proud of it, but I got two PSA Rock, failure to feeds. But, I hadn’t cleaned the chamber/bore in twelve or thirteen hundred rounds of factory Fiocchi. I stop keeping decent counts after getting north of five hundred rounds. I like your mid video Freudian slip, you have 380 on the mind.
I went head to head with the Rabbit of Caerbannog using a rock 5.7 and some hornady black. A holy hand grenade it is not. Nice video! I just wish it was faster. We can rebuild it. We have the technology.
I think it's fast enough for close-encounters since more velocity doesn't really improve performance...but definitely to your point; anyone using it for something at a bit more distance, is going to need that extra velocity. At some point, it won't open up = not cool.
I am currently going through the same rabbit hole as you with the LC Charger. I would get a failure to eject/failure to feed on the first round of a new mag when the gun would sit for a while. I would only get this malfunction when a suppressor was attached, I used the Huxworx flow 22TI and the SICO Sparrow, and both suppressors did this to me. I even download my mages to 15 rounds and it still did the same thing. I think its a backpressure issue on the first round is shot. As soon as I removed the suppressor, the malfunction never happened again. I used FN Blue tip 40g, Federal 40g FMJ, and Speer Gold Dot hollow points when testing this. 😮💨
I really appreciate you reporting this. I’ve shot a fair number of rounds through this with both my dead air mask and my sico sparrow. Until this day (I shot 4 5.7x28 videos in one day). And then I had issues. I had this one failure here and then more with the AAC (but also had it with the handguns with the AAC). I’m not sure why you and I are having these issues now. Here are some older videos of mine shooting a few rounds with the suppressor on and having no issues… th-cam.com/video/qoO8HVmDj7g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=H8t53S1PPizwfY_U th-cam.com/users/shorts5YgnFRGLszE?si=i-vfzULK43KadWgi th-cam.com/video/SVWFJL5-T6U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MLwHj-pLddqa10rc
It’s still good to see the pistols packing some punch, for the size. Price point is interesting, that V-Max bullet has wide acceptance, and really should drop closer to bulk ammo, than boutique prices. Good to read the Smith is doing well. Lol, you’re dumping a Rock, I was picking up a few parts to have around, and then there was a flash sale, that PSA just hasn’t done for a good bit. I figure I can keep one 5.7 pistol running, without shipping it out, or even if they drop support for it.
That's a great point, I probably shouldn't dump it and keep it for spare parts. Yes the v-max seems to perform. Having watched some other hand load videos, I do wonder if it is "heavy" for caliber. I'm seeing people doing better with slightly lower grain weight and a bit more speed. But for a production ammo, this, the FN, the AAC manufacturers using this bullets this is a great option.
Definitely, don’t mind my comments, I did it because my original was far exceeding my expectations, and FN or Smith repair parts are not so easy to come by. I’d agree, optimum, or more interesting, seems to be lighter bullets in the 5.7, but that V-Max seems proven, and has a track record. Hornady is probably making good money on them, with all the industry customers.
@steveharper5368 TUI is good, but o think the point is underwood, generally and not just the solid copper bullets, loads it’s ammo hot. We need someone to load 5.7 hot.
That’s the video for Sunday!! For some reason I’ve always seemed to have reliability issues with them. I want them to work but my guns have had more failures than any other major round. I have lots of videos on my past troubles. But if they run for you that’s great!!
@triggerbarPhD i has to break my 5.7 rock in with about 200 rounds of fmj to finally run the aac 5.7 defence rounds. Since then I've ran three different brands and they've all done well so far👍 before that break in though it was really rough with the aac defensive loads
@@Millzspec Ah gotcha. Yah, if you go back I've put probably 600 rounds of this ammo through my pistols. I did a video shooting 200 rounds and had two failures. That's about at the rate I keep seeing. Also I have a video showing how they don't fit in a chamber guage so I just think my guns are more picky about the tolerance of these rounds (AAC). Compare this to fiocchi, I've had no failures and I"ve shot about 800 rounds of the fiocchi ammo (that's my go-to cheap 5.7 round). I've also never had a failure with the federal rounds or the FN rounds themselves. So just odd. I was honestly suprised by my ruger failing with the Hornady black. I ran the rest of my ammo without an issue. I then bought two more boxes (this is not "cheap" ammo), and I plan to mag dump those with the ruger. We'll see...
@triggerbarPhD 😬😬 5.7 mag dumps just sound like walking into a casino in vegas, i know I'm losing all my money but I'll have a great time doing it 🤣 it's always amazing to me how every individual gun can choose ammo it likes. Can't wait to hit the range this weekend, about 600 rounds to burn!!! Thanks for the info and great videos!!
Did you ditch your M&P 57?? I really, really, really hope Hornady addressed that case-thinness concern on the down-low, that Buffman revealed. That's still got me unwilling to buy their new brass. Certainly wouldn't reload any of this once-fired. I really would like to get some of the Critical Defense! But the vmax is a performer, and somewhat obvious why it's such a popular bullet for this cartridge. Do you think the failure has anything to do with running suppressed? Can't recall now if that's how you always have the Charger...failure to extract is a sort of unusual type, from what I recall. Was it Hop that had the different type of sounding/recoiling ammo that I saw recently?
No! The M&P 5.7 is next to Mrs Trigger Bar’s bed. That’s her bump in the night gun. She shoots it well and is comfortable with the recoil and likes the red dot. So rather than removing that, I just the non-threaded barrel for testing. It’s gotten the same velocity in all my testing as the M&P. I actually tried to sell my non-threaded barrel rock because I don’t really need it. But I’m not selling the M&P. That’s the one I trust the most. The failure could be due to running suppressed, 100%. I did clean it and I bought some more to test, just to see if it happened again. I did, as I said, run another full mag with the rest of the ammo off camera and had no failures. So don’t know. I have already uploaded the critical defense video…next week I think it’s scheduled for. I was concerned about that case thinness too. But I’ve not had any issues like Buffman-other than that one round. Maybe an early issue they had? Don’t know. These are not in the class of your home made bullets but not bad for what they are doing and loaded for. Wish they were faster. Not bad but yah.
Check out Shasta Bean's channel, he is doing some great reloading with some copper Maker Rex bullets that look very promising with this cartridge. He does some meat tests that are very impressive. But their 30 gr, their 32 gr, and their couple of 37 gr offerings are fantastic - if you don't mind waiting months to get them. Vanguard, same sort of thing.
