Agree with all of those. I don't really do much working at height. So not so much the ladders for me personally. But I've got those Darlec leaf grabbers. ( or big hands on sticks as I call them ) as well as my fair share of battery kit. (EGO) Loppers are generally aldi or lidl specials.. I know there shit when I buy them. But I'm cheap. So I make do.
@@LewisgardenservicesLtd Really like the EGO kit tbh. I've just bought the lawn edger to go on the end of the power head. I've got a fair bit of there kit now. Except a mower. I just don't think battery power is quite there yet for mowers. In terms of run time and cost effectiveness over petrol.

Hi Nathan, great channel. Just subscribed. I’m looking for some advice, if you can. I’ve just started my own gardening business, and have bought myself a van and some secondhand kit to get me going. The only thing I need to do now is get my customers in. I’m advertising on social media, but haven’t heard anything yet, so I was wondering if you could give any advice on how to do that. Is it just that time of year, or do I need to be doing more? Many thanks Gavin
Most importantly congratulations on taking the leap and starting out, good luck💪🤞 Jan/ Feb always seem to be dead months especially when the weather is bad unless you have ongoing contracts or a large customer base where you know there are jobs to do. I've never had much luck with Facebook although a lot say they do. Keep active tho on the social media sites. I've also found random flier drops a waste of time but for immediate work target properties that look like they need a tidy up for spring, if confident in doing so try knocking an politely introducing yourself and ask if you could leave them a flier rather than just posting through do. Ultimately it'll be hard work and good work that'll get wors of mouth around about you. Try introducing yourself to established landscapers/ gardeners as they usually have work to pass on they don't want or have no time for. Again good luck 👍 cheers
Thanks for the great advice. I’m determined to make a go of it, and obviously aware that predominantly the majority of the work is seasonal. However, if I don’t give it a go, I will never know. Really though, thanks for getting back to me
Interesting video could I ask how heavy is the Stihl hedge cutting with battery attached ? . Reason for asking I’ve damaged both my rotator cuffs and find my petrol trimmer quite hard to use definitely looking for something that weighs a lot less . Cheers.
Hi, I'm not sure of the exact weight but I'd say half the weight of my petrol with the ap300 in it. Will try find the specs for it, definitely worth it to prevent issues related to weight and vibration etc. I had bad wrists and both golf/ tennis elbow issues which went away using battery gear as often as possible. Good luck with the recovery and thanks for watching 👍
The long reach battery you would go for the stihl 66 ?? Are the blade 20”or 24 “ mate Is it worth the £600 ish investment use my km combi most days Just worry about the maintenance part I service and fix my own machines with the battery is it back to the supplier to be fixed ?
I use the 66 a lot and harder than I should but generally get 18 months to 2 years out of them which may not sound great but the health benefits for me are worth it. There isn't much to fix on them just keep blades clean and there is a switch that can stop it working but easy fix ( video out weds on that) not sure blade length sorry. Plenty other battery gear out there to look at too. Kress and Cramer seem to be doing well with good commercial warranty, I'm looking into pellenc ATM. I'd say the investment is worth it but try a demo? Great name by the way😅 cheers for watching 👍
one tool i dont want to buy bcoz its gunna cost me 7-800 quid is the long reach hedge cutter. shtil or husq. but....i know itl be worth it. my makita 18v one is great for thin stuff but thick beech, leylandae seem to be a right struggle. i bought the milwuake chainsaw 18v andf that has saved the day a few times but up a ladder its awkward. i cannot stand the idea of being in a quiet street 8am , petrol engining the whole street. so loud. hence why i want 7-800 quid on a husq or stihl one. all my other gear im very very happy with and it all allows me to do big jobs.
Food for thought?? In no particular order.😂 The leaf grabber, saves the back definitley. Back up equipment in the truck,to blag it,you know guys😂 A manual extending pruning/cutter and blade.Cheap but saves climbing. Decent eyewear (only got your eyes once) A decent hat when your always hitting your head on stufff( bloody clothes lines) Top of the charts, Wine, cos you bloody well, deserve it.😂
Quite fond of that rioja, the wire that used to be wrapped round the bottle was a pain in the tits but I used my Felco’s to snip it off💪👍🏻 looks like they’ve upped their game and got rid😂
Hi Nath, would i be able to use your list in a gardening article I'm writing? Its going to include a tool guide/reviews. If a yes, if theres any other tools you recommend for all business owners please give them a shout here :) Cheers
Don't worry I spent many years struggling on with old crap kit held together with zip ties and hope, working too hard on cheap jobs and living from credit cards. Do the graft long enough and you make some progress, that's why I looked at pole saws and tripod ladders etc for years thinking I'm not getting those. What a mistake, investment years ago and being a gardening millionaire could have been achieved, now my body is messed up from all that graft with poor equipment 🙄 cheers, aim for the kit that makes the job easier, believe me you'll end up regretting not getting it or packing in and driving for Tesco's

Good job I was just waving it around in the air...by my face😬😅 I've used it on the floor tho on jobs. Half the people you see out there or on YT in fact I doubt have tickets to run a saw. Agree with all of those. I don't really do much working at height. So not so much the ladders for me personally. But I've got those Darlec leaf grabbers. ( or big hands on sticks as I call them ) as well as my fair share of battery kit. (EGO)
Loppers are generally aldi or lidl specials.. I know there shit when I buy them. But I'm cheap. So I make do.
Nothing wrong with being cheap...or a granny 😅 how's the Ego kit doing for you?
@@LewisgardenservicesLtd Really like the EGO kit tbh. I've just bought the lawn edger to go on the end of the power head. I've got a fair bit of there kit now. Except a mower. I just don't think battery power is quite there yet for mowers. In terms of run time and cost effectiveness over petrol.
@funkyduckproductions.8844 yea, mowing I think I'm happy with petrol, if it's on wheels and I'm not picking it up I don't care what it runs on
Have all those but wished I had gotten an Etesia pro 48 PHTS 3 years sooner to make up for all those wet days lost mowing 👍😎
Let's hope this year isn't as wet as last year🤞 still wouldn't be without the pro 46 tho now👌👌 thanks for watching 👍
Sorry to hear your van was stolen , I use a pedal box lock on mine , if you haven't already got one , they work really well .
Was probably 25 years ago but took some time to recover from that, insurance companies were no help back then...put me right off them😅 pedal lock sounds tidy.cheers for watching 👍
Only time i get pruners out is to cut me strimmer wire. Well thats not entirely true but they get more use for that than owt else.
Nice tripod steps mate , Yh 10ft sounds ample. Been looking into those meself.
The tripods are a game changer mate 👌go for it. Cheers for watching 👍
I think the tripod ladder should he no.1 but I've not used any battery gear so maybe your right 😂😉
I wouldn't be without them now, try battery when you can👌 cheers for watching 👍
Literally just invested in my first Stihl battery hedge trimmer. Its a bloody game changer!
Nice one 👌 battery is so much easier on the body. Doesn't do all the jobs petrol can do but 80% of work I'm battery. Thanks for watching 👍 if it's the hla66/86 check out my most recent video incase it doesn't work one day.
Remember the big Hands leaf Grabbers, still got mine,I have A still Saw I call it Still saw because it doesn't work anymore
🤣the green things you have in each hand? Brilliant bits if kit😬🤣
Yes grabbed many A bush with them@@LewisgardenservicesLtd
Hi Nathan, great channel.
Just subscribed.
I’m looking for some advice, if you can.
I’ve just started my own gardening business, and have bought myself a van and some secondhand kit to get me going.
The only thing I need to do now is get my customers in.
I’m advertising on social media, but haven’t heard anything yet, so I was wondering if you could give any advice on how to do that.
Is it just that time of year, or do I need to be doing more?
Many thanks
Gavin
Are the blade 20”or 24 “ mate
Is it worth the £600 ish investment use my km combi most days
Just worry about the maintenance part I service and fix my own machines with the battery is it back to the supplier to be fixed ?
I use the 66 a lot and harder than I should but generally get 18 months to 2 years out of them which may not sound great but the health benefits for me are worth it. There isn't much to fix on them just keep blades clean and there is a switch that can stop it working but easy fix ( video out weds on that) not sure blade length sorry. Plenty other battery gear out there to look at too. Kress and Cramer seem to be doing well with good commercial warranty, I'm looking into pellenc ATM. I'd say the investment is worth it but try a demo? Great name by the way😅 cheers for watching 👍
wolf loppers i think best
Think I've had them years ago, glad they work for you👍
Could you please tell me what leafcrab you got all good Mark 👍👍
They are darlac but others are available. Worth a go👍 cheers for watching
Hi Nathan. What model are your Felco loppers please? 👍🏻
I believe they are the 22 full aluminium one. Pricey but tidy👍
They look the business@@LewisgardenservicesLtd. Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it.
one tool i dont want to buy bcoz its gunna cost me 7-800 quid is the long reach hedge cutter. shtil or husq. but....i know itl be worth it. my makita 18v one is great for thin stuff but thick beech, leylandae seem to be a right struggle. i bought the milwuake chainsaw 18v andf that has saved the day a few times but up a ladder its awkward. i cannot stand the idea of being in a quiet street 8am , petrol engining the whole street. so loud. hence why i want 7-800 quid on a husq or stihl one.
all my other gear im very very happy with and it all allows me to do big jobs.
Having the tools you need for the work you do is the goal👍
Food for thought??
In no particular order.😂
The leaf grabber, saves the back definitley.
Back up equipment in the truck,to blag it,you know guys😂
A manual extending pruning/cutter and blade.Cheap but saves climbing.
Decent eyewear (only got your eyes once)
A decent hat when your always hitting your head on stufff( bloody clothes lines)
Top of the charts,
Wine, cos you bloody well, deserve it.😂
🤣with you with the wine. Had and shades for the look too👌. Back up equipment is a must too👍👍 cheers for watching
Quite fond of that rioja, the wire that used to be wrapped round the bottle was a pain in the tits but I used my Felco’s to snip it off💪👍🏻 looks like they’ve upped their game and got rid😂
Good old felcos🤣👍 I use my secateurs as a multi tool 😬👍👍 cheers
@@LewisgardenservicesLtd same, that’s why I had to do an initial sharpen with the angle grinder yesterday 😂
Hi Nath, would i be able to use your list in a gardening article I'm writing? Its going to include a tool guide/reviews.
If a yes, if theres any other tools you recommend for all business owners please give them a shout here :)
Cheers
Hi no worries, check the comments here there are lots of other great things listed. Cheers 👍
oh yeah mate we're all gardening millionaires mate didnt you know ?
Don't worry I spent many years struggling on with old crap kit held together with zip ties and hope, working too hard on cheap jobs and living from credit cards. Do the graft long enough and you make some progress, that's why I looked at pole saws and tripod ladders etc for years thinking I'm not getting those. What a mistake, investment years ago and being a gardening millionaire could have been achieved, now my body is messed up from all that graft with poor equipment 🙄 cheers, aim for the kit that makes the job easier, believe me you'll end up regretting not getting it or packing in and driving for Tesco's
Don't knock the 'Granny'! I got the 1899 model, she does all my lifting and carrying, no fuel, no battery, just a weekly packet of Werthers Original.
🤣🤣 grab a granny...I'm waiting for the wife to use them so I can say... granny grab a granny grabber😅 sounds like you have good help with you👍
@@LewisgardenservicesLtd Haha, bless her! Yes, I have good help and I'm due to retire this year, so hope my helper will find further employment! By the way, I also use my leaf grabbers to empty compost out of my composters when its ready. I gave up with using a fork or spade. I use a fork for loosening it then the grabbers come into action.
top handle not supposed to used on floor . was reading where a man got fined £500 and employers got £500 fine too. hse.
currently using berger loppers £130 pair from forestry show APF.
Good job I was just waving it around in the air...by my face😬😅 I've used it on the floor tho on jobs. Half the people you see out there or on YT in fact I doubt have tickets to run a saw. I have, not sure if not using a top handle unless harnessed up somewhere is an actual thing tho. Very much like your Pa1 and 6 etc, most don't have those either but spray on jobs.
Nice one, sounds ideal👌
@@LewisgardenservicesLtd recently got my pedestrian/ ride on mower training . not a law enforcement thing but shows i had training and hopefully proves i am competent….
Personally i wouldnt have battery tools if my life depended on it,engines every time.hear the power.
Each to their own👍 what's the weapon of choice? Battery was to keep my career going due to too many rsi injuries from continued use of the heavier tools/ vibrations. They have their limits compared to petrol so I run both. Cheers for watching 👍
Two things.
1. A farm jack for removing stumps and rotted off posts.
2. A really good bench grinder. Razor Sharp kit is a lot safer and makes a job a doddle.
👍
Agree on those mate👍farm jack is so handy and I even keep an angle grinder in the van👌 cheers for watching
