- The First Step is a weekly show brought to you by GDQ Hotfix and regular hosts JHobz and Keizaron. Speedrunning can be intimidating to get started with, but it doesn't have to be! Learn just how easy it can be by utilizing semi-blind races -- races of games you've played before, but never tried to speedrun -- and (hopefully) find a few laughs along the way. I really love this series where you mentor each other. It really feels more like an actual “first step” to speedrunning, instead of a friendly race.
Also, I love the dynamic between Keiz and Hobz!
Keiz and Jhobz are, by far, my favorite part of every week, thanks for doing this for newer players trying to learn about speenrunning ♡
This is amazing. I've played these games for 15+ years and always felt so far away from speedrunning them, but yesterday I ran this and I had such a great time. Thanks for inspiring me to do it!

This is honestly such a cool twist to the first step, I love it. I wish Keiz did a little more explanation to each step when they changed course but the idea is great

This is maybe too late to be seen, but are there any good guides for running a Pokemon randomizer? Even just a list of where key item checks can be found and what items are needed for different progression steps?
I would love to see a pokemon bingo where two runners have to catch certain pokemon to make as many bingos as possible while beating the game. It can be randomizer too. I think that would be very fun to watch.
This makes me miss Pokémon Crystal. It was my very first game that i truly remember playing when I was a child. To this day I haven't been able to play it again. But after seeing so many playthroughs of such an amazing game just makes me want it more. And sure I could easily emulate it but I just prefer to use actual hardware. It just doesn't feel the same. But seeing it in this way, is very interesting and watching Jhobz slowly but surely learn his way about it is fun.
I find it funny that in this one month of Keiz and Hobz tackle KH2 and Crystal, that a Crystal 100% seed showed up TWICE

There's a discord that has a bunch of resources, as well as a bot to create roms for you. I don't know If I should be linking it here, but I'm sure you can find it out there somewhere.

I've spent more time in battle than in the outerworld and i've bumped in walls more than i have walked xD
Also i've almost done a single pokemon too (used 2 for a few littele coverage) with a crobat and a poliwhirl
crobat bebcause i always randomize with a 2 evolution starter and the other were pokemon i've already used xD

You know what's really f'd up? My first playthrough of silver,I got a shiny tree that requires a squirt bottle. Oh well...
I want to know what flags you are running lol. I keep getting seeds that are almost this randomization but then a glaring problem shows up
A good example is my mom gave me an antidote, and a random floor item gave me a bicycle
@@jerryb216 They aren't randomizing all items, they're randomizing key items, meaning key items can only be found where the game usually gives you key items, not just on the floor anywhere.

Can somebody tell me how to do both key item randomizer and randomize pokemon? These runs have been really fun to watch and I want to try it out, but for some reason I can't both randomize Pokemon and Key Items, only one or the other :(
It's a 2 step process. Basically, you feed an already randomized ROM to the key item randomizer.

Question: what does the GO mode do?
GO mode is a speedrunning race term that means "I have all the things I need, time to go towards the goal". It is not part of the game, but for those playing the game it is a way of letting people know that the end is near
so many years since gen 2 and i didnt know you could use softboiled from outside the battle menu, it fells more like old FF games being able to cast cure spell from a white mage. Sadly its not a proper positive heal as you just transfer 20% of your hp to the target but i assume in some wild randomizer-nuzlocking-no item settings could have its application

So, legit question. How is he finding Pokémon that aren't available in Crystal eg celebi or kanto starters? Are all of these Pokémon coded in the normal game and just not available?
They are all coded in, because they either can be traded from Kanto (starters/legendaries/Mew) or obtained through an event (Celebi). Up until gen 8 all the Pokemon in existence are coded in their respective games, mostly due to trading, so randomization is possible and very cool.

randomizer can randomize any pokemon into existence, starters including. It could be Mewtwo/Mew/Stantler fwiw
