I wouldn't say that Rick "stayed" with the band. He told the guys he was done and they refused to let him leave. They told him to figure it out. THOSE...are friends.

It’s hard to overstate just how big this band and album was in ‘83 and ‘84. You couldn’t escape this song and album, and rightfully so. That’s why their 4 year hiatus between this album and Hysteria had fans in a frenzy.
I don't know everything they did, but this has been my favourite Def Leppard song for as long as I've had one. A perfect blend of the grit of British metal with the wide-screen gloss of American rock.
Yeah...they were once directly placed in the British Wave of Heavy Metal, and you can hear it early. They gained a lot of versatility when they got Phil Collen into the mix...

I went to see them in the mid-80s. They put on the best show. They played "in the round". Not a bad seat in the house. The stage rotated as they played, making it even better.

This was an MTV super song when it came out.These guys couldn't drink in the bars they played in. They were only 16 to 18 years old when they started getting exposure. Barely 22 when this came out.
Um, that's a nice thought, but not quite true. Their singer, Joe Elliot, was born in 1959, so he was 23 or 24 when this dropped. It was their third album. They released their first album in 1980. He was 21 when that came out. I didn't check on the other members.

Some of us who’d been listening to rock and roll radio for years had liked DL since “Hello America”….but this album blew them UP in the US! Pretty much anything from this album is worth a listen!
I really like Def Leppard's first two albums the most, when they were a young hard rock band but you cant blame them for going for the money. This is their most popular album, along with the even more commercial Hysteria. The first couple albums had Wasted, Let it Go, Rock Brigade. High N Dry, and Bringing on the Heartbreak. React to some of these, especially Wasted or Let it Go.

Fun bit of trivia:The snare drum that was remarked upon... Lars Ulrich was unhappy with his snare drum's sound, so he borrowed Rick Allen's snare to record "Master of Puppets." Rick is thanked in the liner notes. And if you see the video, you realize the song is about Marilyn Monroe.

Def Leppard used to have their stage in the center of the venue with the crowd all around, which made for more good seats but required that they work that much harder by running all around. They deserve credit because they were one of the biggest bands in the world anyway and didn't need the extra hassle to sell tickets
This song was all over the radio in the early ‘80’s. You nailed the reasons why. Hooky as hell, slickly produced, well executed arena rock. MTV was big in those days and the video got saturation play. Terrific reaction.
This album was a MONSTER in '83. So many hits and Photograph was on constant rotation on MTV -- back when MTV actually played videos 24-7. Ah, the good ol' days. But as huge as Pyromania was, it doesn't compare to Hysteria. Now that was a JUGGERNAUT. Long live Def Lep! 🤘🤘🤘
There was a top 9 at 9 countdown for requested songs that day on the radio station 'The mighty 92 MJQ. At one point in '83 the top three songs were Photograph, Rock of Ages and Foolin'! Pyromania was so popular and influential. Great react, Alex and Andy.
Def Leppard are more than just a band....they are a family,they stuck by each other in the worst of time.....they could easily have replaced Rick Allen on drums but they didn't and they were millions in debt with the making of Hysteria

Never a top tier band for my taste but I saw them in concert last year and they were so tight and so professional and, honestly, super fit. They look like they run 10K's regularly. I was pretty impressed.
This was the first Def Leppard song I'd ever heard/seen on MTV back in '83, I believe it was. I was so young - 19 and now I'm 60. OMG lol But I LOVE Def Leppard - so many amazing, fun songs and Joe Elliott has one of the greatest rock-n-roll voices of all time. He has that grittiness and can hit those high notes!
This album came out when I was in high school and it's still one of my favorite rock albums of all time and my fave Def Leppard album as well. This one, Rock of Ages and Foolin' are 80s rock classics
This was the album that started the whole Mutt Lange 80's sound that pretty much every hair metal band of the 80's followed. Def Leppard is the only band that could truly pull it off to the point that all other bands that followed them just sounded like they were trying to sound like Def Leppard.
Imagine its 83' cruisin in your camaro around your local town. New stonewashed jeans, air jordans and blasting this song throught the Kraco speakers. I loved the 80's.
What made it even more remarkable was having your own badass time machine, which made it possible to jump forward to 1985 when Nike released the Air Jordan.

I was 14 years old when this was released and I wore out the cassette tape over that summer. I thought every song was so good. Sadly, 14 year old me couldn't afford to see them in concert on this tour.

Now you need to try something from "High and Dry" and from "On Through the Night" to go all the way back and see their evolution. I recommend "Hello America" from "On Through the Night" and "Let It Go" or "Another Hit and Run" from "High and Dry." For this 80's kid's money, "High and Dry" is the best Def Leppard album of all (followed by Hysteria)!

As a sound engineer friend of mine likes to call the rock drums of the 80s “meaty, beefy, big and bouncy”. Pyromania is just iconic. Mutt Lange entered the picture and turned them up to 11!
This was a big hit! They caught that MTV wave, and "Photograph" had a good music video for the time. I saw them in Wichita, Kansas at the Kansas Coliseum when this song was everywhere. I was 15 years old, and the girls in my group just HAD to be at the very front. There were no assigned seats back then, so once they opened the gates, we made a mad dash toward the stage. We got there, and I remember being up against the barricade feeling like the crowd would crush me, and it was great! Billy Squire opened. Ticket prices were $11. Good times!

This was the biggest rock album of 1983. The only album that was bigger that year was Thriller!
This was a big hit! They caught that MTV wave, and "Photograph" had a good music video for the time. I saw them in Wichita, Kansas at the Kansas Coliseum when this song was everywhere. I was 15 years old, and the girls in my group just HAD to be at the very front. There were no assigned seats back then, so once they opened the gates, we made a mad dash toward the stage. We got there, and I remember being up against the barricade feeling like the crowd would crush me, and it was great! Billy Squire opened. Ticket prices were $11. Good times!
