Almost every single official scouting program in the world has been co-ed for decades. There is zero shame in the US following suit.

Girl scouts meant a lot to me as a child, and while part of me is a little concerned that "Scouting America" will prevent that organization from flourishing, moving around to multiple parts of the US made me realize that girl scouts just isn't actually prioritized as much as boy scouts in a lot of States, especially in the South... I lived in multiple towns in Florida specifically and I never heard of any girls or even the existence of a girl scout troop for anyone over age 12. It was honestly pretty hard just to find girl scouts selling cookies, but every single church I went to had a wall of plaques honoring their local boy scout and eagle scout troop. The girl scout troops I was a part of before we moved to Florida were all run by stay-at-home moms, so I think that's part of the issue as it becomes increasingly rare for single income households to sustain families. Everyone should be able to access a scouting troop if they want. I just hope they include the more "feminine" badges as well and allow both boys and girls to learn more about arts and crafts on top of outdoors, camping, etc
That's what the youth program is called. The organization also runs the Explorer Scouts, Cub Scouts, Sea Scouts, and Venture Scouts programs that are different from the Scouts program.
Minus the scandal, the boy scouts were much more fun than the girl scouts. Speaking as a old lady who was a girl scout. We made candles, and sold cookies, and walked in parades.
Frankly, I don't know why a girl would want to go into it. I was a scout back about 40 years ago and it was a bullying nightmare overseen by adults who smiled and let it happen, after all it was going to make the boys into men who...go on to abuse in their private lives. The ONE time in middle school I got in trouble, my parents punished me by taking me out of the Boy Scouts and I should have got an Oscar for how heartbroken I had to act, lest they come up with a punishment that did not please me greatly.
The matter of inclusion was not an issue, there is the girl scouts of america, there still called the girl scouts of america and they still only allow girl scouts. This was just a PR stunt due to all the well you know and trying to rebrand.

Unless you actually participated in the scouting program you are just guessing about what occurred and does occur in scouts of America. Also, every troop does things a little differently. As an eagle scout I'm pretty amused that people who did not and are not participating in the organization care about what we name ourselves. For everyone who has participated in this organization with me I have a question. With our law, oath and motto, with these as our core values, how and why did all of the molestation, coverups and ignoring of the situation occur? Who will trust us? I do not believe we have yet righted the wrongs of our organization in any meaningful way.i do though believe in our values and try to live by them.
Lifer here. The scout reservation I attended and loved 60 years ago was the setting for one of those scandals. I had no idea. But on bringing it up l learned that most people would rather throw innuendo and accusations than try to fix something.
