It would get more hits if it was broken into a series of shorter segments. A lot of viewers do not watch longer videos, and every time someone doesn’t watch to the end, it counts against it in the algorithm.
Backing up to a trailer: just get a set of the bright yellow balls, on the end of extendable antennas, with magnets on the end. One goes on the ball, and the other on the tongue of the trailer as close to the hitch as you can get it. When the one on the ball wiggles you are there. And, never look back, learn to use the mirrors. Hand on the bottom of the wheel, move your hand the direction you want the trailer to go. Short narrow trailers, add driveway snow markers, so you can see the back of the trailer.
Great video. Thanks for putting it together. In 2011, I purchased my '07 with the 5.9 2500 Mega Cab (Dec 06 born date) and 40k miles instead of the a new rig with the emissioned 6.7. I was tempted a few times to upgrade to the 4th or 5th gen, but didn't want to get into def and emissions. I'm gladd I didn', especially after the nightmare that's going on right now with Cummins.
Wow ! one awesome video for us Dodge Ram Cummins lovers! I can’t say enough good things about my third generation 2006 Laramie trim with the 48RE tranny, still going strong with original injectors and transmission at 210k miles.
that's the best intro to a TH-cam video I've heard and seen in ages, i had a laugh at the comment on the 5 gen transmission failure on some vehicles , good one 👍😁
Awesome video. After having several 2nd gens, I finally snagged my dream 3rd Gen. didn’t want to deal with the hassle of emissions so the old stuff lives on. The nostalgia is a huge factor lol
I've owned an 89(still have it), bought a 93 and a 95 new, had an 01, 08 and 09, the latest is a 2016 2500. I've love every one of them. They have been great trucks.
Back in the day, we referred to the motor generations, not the body generations. First gen was VE pump, second gen was p7100 pump, 3rd gen was 24 valve, etc. Now everyone looks at them like car generations.
Agreed on the “holy grail”. I got a late 2001 NV5600 that took me a good while to find the right one I wanted. Personally, I like the sound of the VP engines a little more than the rest, but that’s just me. This is an awesome video, sir.
I looked for 8 months for my early 3rd gen 2004 pre emissions. I have owned every generation except the fifth and I'm forever going to try to keep this on the road. Pre emissions is the way to go
So far I agree with most of what have to say about all of the gen truck. I've had 3 of the 4 gen trucks. 2 gas 2 Diesel. Have a gas gen 1, just classic look. Gen 2 Quad cab gas 5 speed. That was fun and even better ride then gen 1 and good for small family. Now Diesel had a 4th gen 2014 Ecodiesel. Yes the 3.0 but it was definitely night and day from gen 2 tech was great power was really good going from a small 318 manual. Fuel mileage can't be beat. Now i have a 2018 2500 Cummins. I loved the 14 and just had to make sure the new one is just as good. Well better. Of course more technology a layout I have grown to love. Power on comand. And engine brake when needed. And auto high idle. 2 things Eco was missing for me. Engine breaking was only in tow haul mode. Unless tuned and no high idle Unless added. Draw back definitely rougher idle a little rougher ride. But the 2nd isn't any rougher then the gen 2 so not bad for a heavy duty 4x4. Absolutely love it. And as i side note i have driven all iterations of Cummins in a commercial platform from 5.9 12 valve and 24 to now 6.7. Can't be beat.
I have a cherry mint condition very low mile unicorn holy grail 2nd gen. 2002 24v HO 56 block, 6 speed manual, odometer is hovering right around 100k . It had i only 79k on it 8 years ago when i bought it from the org owner. But i totally agree with you, the holy grail trucks are a ‘01-‘02 24v HO 6 speed manual. They have the best of the best, everything bigger and stronger with several years of revisions obviously. The dana 60 front axle doesn’t have the vacuum CAD crap, you dont have to worry about 53 block or the KDP (but should still tab it!) The best trans is hands down the nv5600, the earlier years like you mentioned had some input shaft issues, which they foxed by enlarging the input shaft from 1 1/4” to 1 3/8”, its something to keep in mind when looking for a nv5600 for a trans swap, you dont want the earlier ones with the smaller inputs, they can be swapped out, but full rebuild. The tcases were bigger and better, the np241DHD, dhd stands for diesel heavy duty! The smaller tinnier DLD tcase, DLD standing for diesel Light duty! And there’s the big huge dana 80 rear axle with disc breaks! Everyone always wants to swap to a manual transmission and rear disc breaks! The dana 89 is huge! 11.25” ring gear! Massive 37 spline shafts. Mine has the factory LSD. Some trucks were just open. The vp44’s aren’t bad just as long as you run a FASS system. Plain and simple, that vp44 will run for ever, what ever you throw at it, just as long as it has a steady constant supply of cool filtered fuel just like any diesel engine needs. I really want to do a p pump swap. That would be the ultimate holy grail upgrade would be to do a p pump swap. Im jot far off from Doing it. I wanted to wait till the truck had 100,000 miles on it before i started to go crazy on things. Like i said it only had 79k on it when i boughr ir from the old man one owner truck 8-9 years ago. It was cherry, all stock, mint inside and out, garage kept and meticulously maintained, Colorado truck, so no salt! I want the all mechanical injection, no wires, foot connected directly to the injection pump like how you said it! I want the full on crazy carls p pump conversion kit, all the billet parts, billet front adjustable cover, tappet cover, valve cover, the works. No expenses spared. That IMO would make the absolute holy grail truck, and I’m so close! Lol Nothing better than a p pumped 24v 6 speed Manual. Ive had 6 first gen 12 valves over the years, all except one have been getrag 5 speeds, and all except one have been 2wd. All rust free straight bodys. You gotta think here in Colorado they dont dump salt on the roads by the truck loads. And heck here on the western slope it hardly ever snows except at higher elevations. The last first gen i had was a ‘93 club cab 2wd dually 5 speed getrag with only 138,000 miles on it, i gave $1000 for that truck, and pulled it out of the hay barn on 6 flat tires lol.
I have a 2002 3500 4x4 NV5600 quad cab sport red in color. I always wanted a holly grail 98 12 valve. I found one same as the 2002 but NV4500 in it. Used them both for a while and sold the 98 because it just couldn’t hold up to the 2002. A little over a year ago I bought a 97 auto regular cab that was a old worn out farm truck. The 2002 is a pig pulling trailers for the farming I do trying to get around places and tight places so I got the 97 to pull and haul things. Always like rowing my own boat but at 70 I’m getting tired and lazy so the auto is nice for backing and stop and go traffic. Took me a year to totally go thru the 97 but it’s now rust free and everything works except the cruse control. Took the bed off and have a skirted flatbed. I’ll never sell the 2002 I love that truck.
4D Apocalypse, I need an EMP proof Dodge, what are my options. Also, they have an EMP Shield for certain Vehicles, give me the next best option, of the Newer Ones
I bought a new 2006 quad cab 4x4, still have it. 147k miles. Truck has been fantastic except for the interior. The microfiber cloth is complete garbage as is the foam bottom cushions. I’ve replaced the multifunction switch 3 times. My tach stopped working or spins around backwards. And the worst thing, the HVAC box under the dash with the plastic blend doors that break. After my fourth door broke and could no longer get AC out of the dash, I pulled the dash off, rebuilt the box with the steel door kit. Since then, the AC has been colder than it was when new. It used to run 46-50 degrees out of the vents when new and you couldn’t really run it on max recirculate because then the temps would come out even higher, over 50 degrees. The other thing I noticed when new is it would drip very little condensation out of the drain. Since replacing all the doors, there is a ton of condensation and the vent temps get to 40 quick and stay there. It will freeze you out even in 100+ temps in central CA. Now I need to upgrade the front end with the new style heavier duty steering. I replaced the track bar with a Thuren and it helped tighten up but there is still quite a bit of play in the steering. Also the truck is bone stock, never tuner, stock rims and tires. 48RE tranny still running strong with 30k drain, filter, and both band adjustments done correctly. I clay bar and wax it 2 times a year and the paint still looks new. With new truck prices and emissions garbage, I’ll keep what I have for another 20 years.
I ended up with a 2013, I was looking and realized that the non-DEF 6.7s have tons of issues with plugging up the DPF, so it came down to either a 5.9 common rail or a 13 or newer that takes DEF.
Great video comparison with useful information. I purchased an ‘09 just over 2 years ago with 97K miles that was done right. It was a gamble that I didn’t fully appreciate, nor understand at the time. I put the truck to work and put 127K miles on it in two years without a single problem outside of consumables (f.o.l., tires, batteries, etc). I absolutely love the truck and I’m glad that I passed on the ‘06 5.9L, which was spec’d the same. The 6.7L w/ manual 6-speed transmission is definitely the way to go. I’ve upgraded to a Fass fuel pump & filtration system, Fleece filter delete and coolant bypass. I’ve never had it on a dyno, but it really pulls hard.
@@devvoid1312 I wouldn't agree with that. My used $200 s06 smarty on the 90hp setting gives my pre emission 04 right about the same pulling power as my new 22 chassis cab that is stock.
God I miss my 97 and my 05. My ‘13 powerstroke is awesome and such a nice truck, but it’s just not my old Cummins trucks. I need to just buy another one
I would say the holy grail pickup would be a late 01 to 02 with the nv5600 with a p pump swap. All the reliability of the 12 valve with a better flowing head and better interior. A custom 4 door crew cab conversion would set it over the edge
This was such a great video I had to watch it again. I have a question for you in your opinion is a 2007 ram 2500 SLT with light group manual transmission mega cab 137,00 miles a good truck and avoids all the emissions crap for California also is 34,000 for this truck about right
@mikestrophytruck is it an early or late 07? 07.5 is the full emission 6.7. Price seems a little high but if that's starting price could be pretty close. I'd like to pay 25k, assuming it's a 5.9
Got a 05' with 280k miles, owned the beast for 3 yes. . Did injectors at 240k. Still running and driving but 48re is going out soon. I only have to put diesel. What do you put in yours 4th Gen owners? Def? Hahaha
1971 was last steel dodge body u can stand on the door handle push buttons but 80 was 1st year 4 the hood type no divit s to collect water and loose paint. 71 after to 93 was terrible door steel
Another drawback to the first and second gens was the steering. Upgrade to a Redhead steering box and 4th gen steering components, you’ll be good to go. I think ball joints was another factor too. New subscriber
3rd gen early 04, 5600 6speed. Couldn’t agree more. Stock radiators have a tendency to crack at the top right corner though. Just my experience. Solid truck overall.
Hey there I have a 05 Cummins 6 Speed how to injector go out replace it with remanufactured ones I've had three go out so far I am having a hell of a time trying to find legitimate Bosch OEM injectors what's your suggestion
Just found your vid. I just bought an 06 2500 with the 5.9 24v with 432k on it. Any advice to keep it healthy? This is the first Ram I’ve bought and first diesel I’ve owned.
Well, at 432k, hopefully the previous owner did their job and keeping it happy because at this point the health of that engine is based off the past much more than the future. But if all checks out well I'd just do normal maintenance as usual. Non fancy 15 40 at 8500mi, fuel filter every other oil change, and air as needed
I'll be honest, the 4th gen. draw to me was the power. I wanted the power and I didn't want to fuck around with a tuner or mod it, plus these damn trucks cost so much, there wasn't going to be money left in my budget to change anything.
I have a 66 Dart with a 12 valve Cummins in it twin turbo my own design stock ported hx35 low pressure turbo is a bht3b with a 32 centimeter housing I have blocked off half the housing 14 mm injection pump 191 delivery valves no rack 24 degrees 60 lb Springs 5000 RPM Governor Springs no fire ring torque the stock bolts with grease to 145 pounds the engine has seen 80 lb of boost and has not blown a gasket dyno 518 HP 1170 foot pounds I bought the truck for two grand and I have about 4,000 on top of that the dart hasn't altered wheelbase with a 9-inch rear end stock 47 RH with a triple disc torque converter reverse valve body
I currently have an 03 3500 quad cab long bed with a 48re, and a early 04 3500 quad cab long bed with the nv5600, I specifically chose the these years for the non emission equipment, as you mentioned. Plus I prefer the 03 to 05 look and the nv5600
@jamesbridges2382 just the stock radiator for now. If it ever leaks, I may go Mishimoto. Although I'm stock power and even with heavy towing, I haven't seen any temp above 205
I owned a 53 block one ton and drove it hard when towing. I had it for three years from 279k miles and it was running strong when I traded it at 297k miles. My largest complaint was the sloppy automatic trans
That's a pretty broad question. Do you have a 2nd gen or 4th gen budget? In a 2nd gen, my opinion is an 01.5-02 is the truck to buy with the h.o. 5600 package. The 4500 5spd behind the 12v and so24v is not as good of trans. In a 3rd, the 03-05.0 5600 is a good choice, 05.5-06 g56 ad is geared a little low. Not a big deal, if you tow a lot, but if you run empty a lot, you'll probably want the g56 ae that is geared higher like a 5600. The g56 ae ran from sometime in 06 to 18
For me the first gens are the best but who wouldn't want a first gen ..they are bad ass as it gets A 5th gen would be nice too but damn 100k for a new truck is crazy
I have 2 of the 8 different versions A 2001 24v 5.9 47re And a 2008 6.7 48re I'd love a stick, but I've had 3 left knee surgeries already and I'm only 36, so I'd like to still be able to walk when I'm 70.
2nd gen needs 3rd gen that 3rd gen didn't have with 2nd gen. But,Gen was so fun to say when 3rd gen was also so fun to say. 2nd gen was still cool but 3rd gen was more popular. 2nd gen sucks but mama loved the 3rd gen. 😅
I’m a Chevy guy but the IFS Torsion suspension is garbage and a pain to maintain and GM products after ‘08 bankruptcy and bailouts are disposable electrical nightmares… basically gmt400 and gmt800 are peak GM engineering
FACT CHECK- There was only 3 Generations of “ Dodge Cummins”, the 4th and 5th Gen are RAM built, Dodge had NOTHING to do with them. Production was moved to Chrysler production plants 13 years ago. Have you been in a coma for the last decade mate ?
Are you slow? Ram and dodge and Chrysler and jeep are all the same company and share parts. The dodge and ram name separated for marketing purposes… and no. The 2010-2012 4th gens still say dodge on the title vin and on the body. 2013+ just says ram for marketing yet still use the share the dodge logo on the interior and body. Like my 2017 still has the dodge logos. It’s called marketing. They all are the same company dude

But if the cp 3 or 4 goes out it’s a huge bundle of green
I love my 02. Makes enough power to be fun with big injector, no wastegate, timing box, boost fooler. Drives nice, gets good economy
Man is a walk cummins manual… is there anything you don’t know brother? Love the video.
I sure do love my 92 Cummins.
God I miss my 97 and my 05. My ‘13 powerstroke is awesome and such a nice truck, but it’s just not my old Cummins trucks. I need to just buy another one
first and last are my favorites
I have best of both worlds. A 06 mega cab with 12 valve and g56
This video is packed with useful info.
I've got a late 02 Quad low mileage with auto " id like to have one with NV5600
This is a great video. I have a question though did you say that the def fluid started in 2010?
@@mikestrophytruck no, 2013
I have a 1997 2500 4x4 12 Valve Club Cab Long Bed and I love it.
What’s the club cab again?
it has the rear bench seat but only 2 doors.@@Keeter94
The extended cab, basically
Mine is a 98 12 with a quad cab but 2 door with a auto
i have a 03nv5600 and a 17 ho mega aisin love the both
Awesome combo
i was looking for a g56 megacab 4x4 when i found a 17 aisin megacab 4x4 with 17k miles and laramie i couldn't pass up
i bought my 03 new 204k on it. the only real issue I've had is the 271 transfer case I've replaced the chain 3 times already
I'm currently in a Duramax but it will be interesting in what the 2025 ZF transmission will bring to the game.
2002 3500 dodge dually 6 speed manual ❤❤❤
AWESOME INFORMATION....THANKS
I'd like to pay 25k, assuming it's a 5.9
@ how do I find out if it’s an early or later 07
@@mikestrophytruck just ask if it's a 6.7 or 5.9. 5.9= no emissions 6.7= full emissions
@ it’s a 6.7 so that means this is the same motor up to 2012 right
@mikestrophytruck correct
Great video I’ve own 2 gen and 3 gen
Great video! Thank you!
1st gen and 4th gen for the win
I have owned a 2002 and 2022 and I think the 2nd and 5th Gens are the best looking...but I'm biased.
What Year and model would be best to pick for often trailer pulling if budget isn’t an issue. Doesn’t matter if it’s a dual or not.
If it's heavy the newer the better
Got a 05' with 280k miles, owned the beast for 3 yes. . Did injectors at 240k. Still running and driving but 48re is going out soon. I only have to put diesel. What do you put in yours 4th Gen owners? Def? Hahaha
1971 was last steel dodge body u can stand on the door handle push buttons but 80 was 1st year 4 the hood type no divit s to collect water and loose paint. 71 after to 93 was terrible door steel
i want a white second gen cummins sport quad cab shortbed
Another drawback to the first and second gens was the steering. Upgrade to a Redhead steering box and 4th gen steering components, you’ll be good to go. I think ball joints was another factor too. New subscriber
@@THATPOWERSTROKELOVER welcome aboard
@@bobbyjfarms3681 Heck yeah! Loved the video so far. I just got to the part where you were driving the gray 2nd Gen. About halfway through that part
97 4x4 nv4500 with 215 p pump swapped 01 HO 24 valve
Noticed no 89 90s, the ultimate best looking by far.
3rd gen early 04, 5600 6speed.
Couldn’t agree more.
Stock radiators have a tendency to crack at the top right corner though. Just my experience.
Solid truck overall.
Where you live " we might do business where you located
I've got a 1st gen, three 2nd gens and two 3rd gens, no emissions trucks lol
Hey there I have a 05 Cummins 6 Speed how to injector go out replace it with remanufactured ones I've had three go out so far I am having a hell of a time trying to find legitimate Bosch OEM injectors what's your suggestion
I just bought a 94. 3500 5.9 it has 309701
5spd?
Just found your vid. I just bought an 06 2500 with the 5.9 24v with 432k on it. Any advice to keep it healthy? This is the first Ram I’ve bought and first diesel I’ve owned.
Well, at 432k, hopefully the previous owner did their job and keeping it happy because at this point the health of that engine is based off the past much more than the future. But if all checks out well I'd just do normal maintenance as usual. Non fancy 15 40 at 8500mi, fuel filter every other oil change, and air as needed
“Cut er loose”😂
Great Video
I just purchased a 2016 with a 6.7 and I’m worrying about the grid heater bolt problem, truck has 143k, should I be concerned, thank you
wiggle test!
8:50 dam sounds like me , I know of one selling at 2000$
2nd gens for me. Best overall are the 3rd gen pre emissions.
Agreed
The true holy grail is a crew cab 2g
Dont get me wrong i love the looks of the newer trucks but i wouldnt trade my first gen in for anything
Loving what you have is a good thing!
i do definitely love her :D
ive got a quad cab 5.9 2004 3500 non dually only 90k miles
I currently have an 03 3500 quad cab long bed with a 48re, and a early 04 3500 quad cab long bed with the nv5600, I specifically chose the these years for the non emission equipment, as you mentioned. Plus I prefer the 03 to 05 look and the nv5600
What radiator you running in the 04 6speed?
@jamesbridges2382 just the stock radiator for now. If it ever leaks, I may go Mishimoto. Although I'm stock power and even with heavy towing, I haven't seen any temp above 205
Mine is a 53 and it has 350,000
I owned a 53 block one ton and drove it hard when towing. I had it for three years from 279k miles and it was running strong when I traded it at 297k miles. My largest complaint was the sloppy automatic trans
What’s best year 3500 with a manual
That's a pretty broad question. Do you have a 2nd gen or 4th gen budget? In a 2nd gen, my opinion is an 01.5-02 is the truck to buy with the h.o. 5600 package. The 4500 5spd behind the 12v and so24v is not as good of trans. In a 3rd, the 03-05.0 5600 is a good choice, 05.5-06 g56 ad is geared a little low. Not a big deal, if you tow a lot, but if you run empty a lot, you'll probably want the g56 ae that is geared higher like a 5600. The g56 ae ran from sometime in 06 to 18
My dream missing two generations 😂
For me the first gens are the best but who wouldn't want a first gen ..they are bad ass as it gets
A 5th gen would be nice too but damn 100k for a new truck is crazy
1st gens are definitely unique, they are the most "different" from the rest of the gens. New trucks are indeed very pricey
Thats what im sayin i love my baby
I have 2 of the 8 different versions
A 2001 24v 5.9 47re
And a 2008 6.7 48re
I'd love a stick, but I've had 3 left knee surgeries already and I'm only 36, so I'd like to still be able to walk when I'm 70.
And a 2001 5.2L Mexican RamCharger, but that doesn't really count for the Cummins part.
Someone teach this guy how to segment this video into sections so we don't to skip around and guess to find what we are here for. Thanks
Teach me
That’s a lot of transmissions to fix.
Last time I checked everyone of them rolled under their own power in the video
I'll take an earlier Dodge with Detroit or 549 V8
@@DavidDerr-xs5xe is this something you have?
2nd gen needs 3rd gen that 3rd gen didn't have with 2nd gen. But,Gen was so fun to say when 3rd gen was also so fun to say. 2nd gen was still cool but 3rd gen was more popular. 2nd gen sucks but mama loved the 3rd gen. 😅
First gen is the best period
Gen 4 is the best truck lol
All 5 generations of Dodges, and still not as good as 1 Allison transmission lol
Gen 1 and 2, after that, they went to crap.
First gen is the best gen.
There are only 3 generations of Dodge Rams. The others are Rams.
They are all Dodge Rams to us old school dodge guys
I’m gonna be real these trucks are a piece of shit I should’ve got it Duramax
They aren't shit and the Chevy isn't better. If it was, dodge and ford wouldn't be able to sell a single truck. The brands are all the same
I’m a Chevy guy but the IFS Torsion suspension is garbage and a pain to maintain and GM products after ‘08 bankruptcy and bailouts are disposable electrical nightmares… basically gmt400 and gmt800 are peak GM engineering
Dodge means to avoid...complete junk....
Hey Mate, us real dodge mopar guys will always refer to them as Dodges. Regardless, of what dba they choose to use. Sorry that bothers you
Are you slow? Ram and dodge and Chrysler and jeep are all the same company and share parts. The dodge and ram name separated for marketing purposes… and no. The 2010-2012 4th gens still say dodge on the title vin and on the body. 2013+ just says ram for marketing yet still use the share the dodge logo on the interior and body. Like my 2017 still has the dodge logos. It’s called marketing. They all are the same company dude
Dodge means to avoid
Thanks for helping the view count🙂
