So would you be able to recommend the best hand polish and compound? I'm new to caring for my car, and it's rare to hear people talk about the best hand polishes and compounds.
Hi mate, have just recently finished re spraying clear coating my car. As you know it's left a bit rough to touch. But don't know what to use for a outstanding finish. By hand or machine. Please can you help. Many thanks. Mike storey
Mate that is the most professional video I've ever seen you do, not to mention the MASSIVE amount of work that has gone into all that! I didn't think I'd like the new 'professional Jon' as much as the brilliantly funny 'old Jon' but I really do! Great job Jon, really great job!
For me the Menzerna Heavy Cut Compound 400 does a great single stage job if you work it long enough. Even on rougher defects. For a medium polish though, a Meguiars 205 or Menzerna 2in1 does a great job. Excellent video!
I needed a new polishing compound, ordered the angelwax regenerate. I always trust your judgment, this is by far the most detailed video, thank you for your hard work 👍
Interesting results. Ive always used Sonax Perfect Finish. For me as a novice home user polishing family cars, it is easy to work with and gives great results. But yes pricey !.
Fantastic comparison, something I have been waiting for for a long time! I have always stuck with menz compounds as I find them fantastic on hard bmw clear coat and even on softer solid paints. I have been looking for others but this has kept me with menz. Restored my heavily swirled Estoril blue paint to flawless with very little effort with a rotary and 3 of their compounds/polishes. Would love to see more of these including a heavy cut and ultra fine cut test. Credit to you Jon, excellent content as usual!
@@jrooney06 yeah it takes a bit of removing but the fact that it stays lubricated gives me more confidence ( I’m by no means a pro at this ). Thanks for the alternative recommendation though. 👍
I got 1 litre of S20 for £32 and I find it works very well. Only once did it haze and that was on a black coloured Isuzu Dmax. Very happy with it. Great video again. 😁
I have been using Scholl S20 with Scholl pads for a while now and they always give me amazing results, it's amazing what different pads can do for the finish.
TW one and done did great for me on super soft tesla paint. When paired with the to you max wax, it removed any haze that was left from the cutting stage. I have used all the menzerna gear and I found TW to be quicker to use. I found a hex logic green did better for me than the harder orange pad. That did leave haze and some holograms. Won’t be buying anymore compound now as I am happy with the TW combo. Next up is a black 2009 x5. So it will be out to the test there!!!
Been using Scholl s20 and s40 for years. Absolutely brilliant stuff and the best I’ve ever used. And to top it off you can polish in direct sunlight with it and it doesn’t dry out which is why I use it
I remember one of the first videos of yours I ever watched was reviewing S20 black and to be honest, I have no reason to look for anything else. I also use Perfect Finish, whish is a second place. BWM paint is hard as balls, so I am quite fond of XXL Gold on really bad paint. Your video kinda makes me glad I stuck with the few products I did, again, thanks to you mate.
I bought the same as you , the scholl s20 black bcuz of this channel and the same video you watched and it’s brilliant , I’ll be buying 3d one compound andy polish next as that’s meant to be amazing, and the Koch chemie is also meant to be nearly as good
Been using Angelwax regenerate for the last 1,5-2 years, very happy with it! Recently bought another product of them, the Angelwax Resurrection compound. Same amount, same great price, just a heavier cut compound, which i use after wetsanding panels. In my testing, it cuts great, finishes well, and easy to wipe off! Great recommendation :)
I use Sonax Perfect Finish and have done for yrs, I've recently started using Cartec final cut 9000 and that gives me great results...but I might look into angel wax product
A much lesser product set in my garage, but I've found roughly the same if I was to score them. Turtle Wax 1&Done was not great, but good that it is clear (I'd like to see that feature in more). I then have Ultimate Compound, which I like but needs more finishing ability. But overall for me Scholl S20 black is great. I've gone through about 4 bottles of that and I'm yet to find something I like as much. And the video didnt suck 😂 so a thumbs up from me!
I use the Menzerna 2500 polish which I love so it was nice to see it in your top three 👍🏻great video mate very interesting as I am new to the detailing / valeting club.
Been waiting for this video. I use Sonax Perfect Finish, bought a small bottle so the price was ok. Does a great job so I'll stick with it just like you said. Thanks for the video👍
I’ve seen good things about Angel Wax compound before by professional detailers. It’s good to hear you say the same thing. Temped to get a bottle myself.
That's very reassuring that I've got the 3 best in my arsenal, based on gut feeling and experience using these products. Very informative again John, thx!! Cant wait when you make a vid on AIO's...
The Menzerna have been my goto for a while now, only issue I have with it is that it dries out fast here in the dry and warm Spanish weather but it can be "woken up" again with a spritz of distilled water on the pad or panel if needed. But the result that that compound leaves is awesome every time.
Dear John: At first best regards from Germany to you from my husband and me. We kept watching your FDC for years and still do with a lot of pleasure. There is one upcoming question when watching this current video from you please. *Why is the Scholl S20 black so much in front in comparison to the SONAX Perfect Finish?* We used them both for years and came to the decision that the Scholl S20 black became better and better in the last two years. For a one-step-polish of the car it's our favorite #1. This opinion of an possible improvement of the Scholl S20 black is maybe right, because looking back about 3 years ago we had seen your "Clash of the Titans", what means in detail a shootout between exactly these two polishes. Back then the SONAX PF won for a couple of comprehensible reasons. So we are surprised to see today you rated the Scholl S20 black better now. Why and for which reason John? Thank you very much for your honest feedback John. Best regards from Germany, Sarah & Timo
hey guys thanks for this. yes someone else noticed this. the S20 performed better. Could it be a tweaked formulation from when I tested it? I dont know of any. I think its more likely just the test conditions may have suited it. but in this test as well there were 2 catagories of price comparison which increased the weighting of the "value" overal. And the main downside with PF is that price point.
I've been using the Angelwax products lately. I bought the range from the prewax cleaner and the 3 polishes, light, medium and heavy. I've used the light and medium and have been impressed with them. Great for an enthusiast like me. Nice to use, great value for money and UK based.
Koch for me. Very new to cutting/polishing and it's the first one I've used as of last year with my budget Argos da to remove dealership holograms and it did a great job when used with a green hex logic pad.
I use angelwax compounds and they are great to work with, and ridiculously cheap. I wasnt expecting much but just like in the comparison but I was pleasantly surprised. Great products 👌🏻
I’ve recently started using the Cartec Diamond cut 3000 & 9000, oh my what amazing products, would have been nice to see how the 9000 faired in this test. Might grab a bottle of regenerate just to have on the shelf for those jobs that don’t pay that well and warrant the Cartec 😜
Got both the S20 and the turtle wax graphene 1 & Done . Not used the S20 much but the turtle wax stuff is a winner when used by hand for a quick once over. It also pairs up with the turtle wax graphene liquid wax which makes my life about 200% easier.
I started out using S20 but dusting is an issue for me. I've been using 3D One for the last 12months and found it can do so much depending on pad and techniques used.
Nice job, but would appreciate if you draw a chart showing the various characteristics of the products you test like Project Farm does in his videos. Also, every single product can have a result and rating on various aspects instead of you picking up each one and explaining. Graphs have a better memory retention than spoken words. Since not all products are available in all countries, one can use the graphs to look for alternate products as per availability. Thanks for doing the comparison
Given that meguiars are quite expensive where i live, especially their cleaners, detailers and shampoos its such a surprise for their polish/cut/finish compound to be comparatively cheap I personally use the Sonax ex 04-06 Has enough cut for most "real life" scratches with a hard pad and still has an excellent finish
Another informative, well-made video Jon. My personal favourite is Scholl S17 with orange pad. It would be interesting to see where the Angelwax Perfect Polish and Autoglym Rapid Renovator Plus would fit in this line-up.
Hi Jon. Fantastic video. Funny enough, I was actually looking into the Anglewax Regenerate a while ago. Never used it. I am also very interested in the AutoSmart Adaptive cut, the 3D ONE, Rupes Uno and Poorboys SSR 2.5. For a year I was using the Autoglym Rapid Renovator with both microfibre cutting pad and the Wurth blue foam pads and that was a winner for me. Also the 3D Speed is fantastic and sun friendly. The Poorboys is in the same price range as the Angelwax.
I spotted a cutting product specifically designed for soft clearcoat on another UK detailing channel. Kamikaze Collection Banzai cutting compound was used. It's not a single stage compound like these ones, just thought to mention. Looks like it's very expensive, especially because it's a two stage system, so you would really need a challenging clearcoat to pay that much. Although I think because cars get bodywork done often, can't trust the clearcoat is a hard OEM one all around, so information on how products behave on hard and soft coat is valuable. Thanks Jon for the test!
I dont john really sorry. But Contact UK Detailing academy in cirencester speak to Rich or Ian. These guys have been doing this professionally for decades and their knowledge is vast.
I have been wanting to ask this question too.... with respect, you are missing a trick.... you will have your diary booked for weeks. I’d drive over to receive your advice in a heartbeat. All the best, David.
Ford Fiesta (believed to be soft paint from research). Tried the megiars 205/105 combo to be ok didn't blow me away. Tried multiple pads/passes - meh. I tried the all in one Meguiars ultimate, still not enough cut and it dusted really quick (I've revisited now with some experiennce, same) sends bits polish particles everywhere. Using different qtys didn't seems to help and i ended getting thru a tonne of it trying to keep it from drying out. SO I tried using only a little, just didn't seem to do much, maybe its me. Once it had dusted if worked more it didn't seem to do much to finish any better either. I found the Menzerna my favourite (red one, heavier cut) that I ended up using as a one stage with orange Hexpads (left over form my first attemp last year). Easy to work, don't use much of it and hte bottle is really easy to squeeze out as much as you need and hte results were fantastic. I found meguiars dusted up way too soon, the clip/spout to get it from the bottle used to spit everytime it was opened and would gum up when it dried between uses and collect in the lid. Messy. The Menzerna does leave a slightly oily residue on the paint but easily buffed off and easier to see any bits you might otherwise miss. I found using either ultimate or the megs 205 fine polish with a white hexpad after the orange pad and red Menzerna wasn't worth the effort in either case. I bought a 1L for £29 on ebay. Done my car at least twice and one other with it and there's still half left. No reason to change now. Its my go to for headlights and used with a wool pad too, before sealing. (Also I found an CarPro pad for info that was for removing orange peel - velvet pad - for 2000 grit but without the scratch marks. Not somethign I'd have a need for on paint, but for plastic headlights also worked great)
The most versatile product I have used, in all situations and was able to achieve great cut and finishing and is pad dependant is THE LAST CUT (TLC). It's a bit on the price end. But get the job done.
Had to steer away for Scholl. Just hated how oily it was. Now using koch which seems to be a little better. Doesn’t buff like something like ultimate compound but cuts better.
Jon. I’m a Noobie using G3 and G360 on wool and yellow compunding pads . What you think of the American product 3D 3d x-tra cut. You did mention it the once.
Jon despite being here for sometime, I have a fair few products, I believe it or not I still don’t fully understand single, double and 3 stage detailing, due to lock down it’s just been maintenance washes, but it will get deconned and clay barred, I am happy enough using scholl S40, I am using old school Fusso on top and occasionally BSD. I have had to reel it in a bit so I can use some of what I have got...... incidentally, you know I blame you😂
well ultimately its about getting the car looking nice steve. but theres 2 things. Defect removal and then highly refined finish with no marring. And you have to think about how much time you have and the best way to get a good finish on the car. if you have a single day to clean decon and polish and protect a car. then 1 set may only be possible and then the single stage or mid range product is often the best option. (not always though). but if you are gunning for really top work maybe an old car needs 2 sets of compounding and you then polish once to clean up the heavy cutting but maybe you go the extra mile and do ultra fine polish with S40 or sf3800 and soft finishing pad and really so for like top draw work. every extra set add considerable time when you think it has to be done on all the paintwork. 99% of the time. time is the problem for most people. not everyone pro or hobbyst can spend days and days doing this.
@@ForensicDetailing mine is a 5 year old car and I took all of the swirls out with one go of sc40, I have used Fusso once, but as it hasn’t been going anywhere, I use original turtle wax rinse and shine, megs ceramic or BSD 50:50 keeps her looking nice, I have been a bit pissed off with it as it has 3 areas that need paint, it’s getting done next week, perhaps it will make me feel happier about doing it.
I know it’s not related to this but been following you can I please ask a question I have invested in a das 6 pro not sure if I have missed something but after going through all the 1 2 3 do I need a product to remove the polish and lubricants that are left before I go with a finishing polish . Great information on detailing keep up the good work 👍 Tim
yes mate. see how to make homemade panel wipe video. If you want to go elite mode get BH cleanser fluid. If you want to go cheap make my IPA/DI WAter/Surfex cocktail.
Hi Jon great video! I have previously used the Koch with the orange chemical guys pad. It was my first time machine polishing but watching your Chanel gave me the confidence! The car came up lovely in general but I am still seeing clear coat marring from bird poo and potentially acid rain? Any thoughts on what to do next? Maybe another go at the bonnet with some new pads? I have a 2008 E92 if that makes any difference regarding paint type. Cheers Jon!
some deep bird poo marring may not be removable ash or might be so deep its not advisable to try and remove.. quick rule of thumb if you cant remove it with 3 sets of compounding you might want to stop there, finish it out and call it a day
I would love to see an area where value doesn’t play a role in where things place - just because it’s cheaper doesn’t mean it can perform better. We are detailing cars some of us will pay whatever (within reason) to make our car perfect.
some people dont care about value. some people dont care about cut level so much etc. some people just want low dusting etc.. but some people want good performance and value for money. thats EXACTLY why a review tests different things so people watching can filter out the criteria they are not worried about and the review can cater for what matters for you. And the overall winner does everything well.. so your kind of preaching to the converted here my friend which is why I dont just like name the top 3 overall and we do all this testing and discussion
wolfgang fusion 2.0 that stuff was amazing i cant find it anywere but it would but the most heavy of scratches and woul leave it like wet glass on teh finish
Another top video. You're the best man to ask, what do you you use on the M140i for getting rid of the defects? I done a panel on a friends using orange hexlogic pads and megs ultimate compound and also menzerna 400 and I can't get the defects out. The clear coat seems rock solid. Thanks John
the paint is hard yes, so you have 2 capable compounds there but I use Koch. The orange hex logic is not very agressive. I tend to recomend Koch H9 paired with flex purple medium cut pads. And flex orange paired with Koch M3 to finish out the paint. You can up cutting agression by going with the flex green cutting pads. but this will definetly need finishing out with a soft pad. technique will come into play. do veyr slow sets with a tad more downwards pressure nice and slow and consistent and let the machine do the work.
Great Vid Jon 👍🏽. I’ll be having a look at the Angelwax range more closely too. Any thoughts on doing a vid for polishing piano gloss interior. I have a bm like yours and scratches and scuffs are terrible. Thanks
if you watch my video on polishing b pillars its a similiar approach.. helps if you can pop the panel out. just treat it like mega soft paintwork and use nano polishers if you have them.
Which of these 3 products do you think I should use is more permanent and the effect is long.... i was caught between auto glym alex hybrid, scholl s20 black real and 3d 510 cake, which one do you think I should buy you seem to be very experienced in this regard????
Hi John Really enjoyed your video. Very informative. I've been using cartec refinish 9000 which is excellent. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Also just been recommended menzerna 400 heavy cut one step
you use compound to remove deeper defect like deep swirls or sanding marks. You use clay to remove crud off the paint. You use finishing polish over a compound generally to give you non hazing crystal clear higher gloss finish with no machine marring.
@@ForensicDetailing thank you so much! buying a DA soon so just rewatching all your content again. i did my car by hand earlier this year with autoglym super resin polish after claying, but want to take up a level before winter hits

For me the Menzerna Heavy Cut Compound 400 does a great single stage job if you work it long enough. Even on rougher defects. For a medium polish though, a Meguiars 205 or Menzerna 2in1 does a great job. Excellent video!

I use menzerna 3500 on a white LC polishing pad on my ultra soft paint, finishes down well and removes most defects!
Sonax Cut and Finish has always been the best in my book.
Autobrite direct Enrich with their green pad worked wonders on the swirls on my m135i tailgate.
Exactly what I needed, wonder if sonax perfect finish and 3d one will be on here. Torn between those 2. Let's see what the video has to offer
Agreed. 3D One is my favorite.
I have just met you John when you were going to Sainsbury 😉👌🙈 I couldn't believe I didn't say hello 🙈
:) nice to nearly meet you Berny :) gimma a shout mate next time its always nice to meet like minded peeps into cars.
hi, seen your online coures but do you do any inperson training?
I dont john really sorry. But Contact UK Detailing academy in cirencester speak to Rich or Ian. These guys have been doing this professionally for decades and their knowledge is vast.
I have been wanting to ask this question too.... with respect, you are missing a trick.... you will have your diary booked for weeks. I’d drive over to receive your advice in a heartbeat. All the best, David.
Very nice. Comprehensive information. 👍
Not somethign I'd have a need for on paint, but for plastic headlights also worked great)
Have you used much of the chemical guys stuff ? Would have been nice to see the chemical guys vss
The Meguiar's D300 is an upgrade to the Ultimate Compound. Very easy to use with no dusting. I prefer it to 3D One as the wipe out is so much easier
The most versatile product I have used, in all situations and was able to achieve great cut and finishing and is pad dependant is THE LAST CUT (TLC). It's a bit on the price end. But get the job done.
Jon was wondering what is the best Compound and Polish Duo in this day and age?
I've finally bought a DA8 polisher last week and 500ml of regenerate today through your recommendation Jon.. 👍🏼.
How did you get on with that combo?
@@steverabbits I'm really happy with the results👍🏼. So glad I took the step and finally did it.😊
@@jonnybravo3055 thanks Jonny, I need to take the plunge now! Any advice on pads to use?
Had to steer away for Scholl. Just hated how oily it was. Now using koch which seems to be a little better. Doesn’t buff like something like ultimate compound but cuts better.
Jon. I’m a Noobie using G3 and G360 on wool and yellow compunding pads . What you think of the American product 3D 3d x-tra cut. You did mention it the once.
not used it mate sorry.
@@ForensicDetailing No mither Jon
I use Angelwax polishes and 3D is amazing ❤ 3D One hybrid is amazing and Resurrection 👊
I like the farecla but find it's very pad dependant. It's definitely aggressive but you have to have the right pad to not get swirls/hazing.
Just finished up the video, fantastic as usual. Did the Angelwax with the orange pad remove all sanding marks at 3000 grit?
it can easy remove P3000
@@ForensicDetailing excellent thanks for that, got a few marks that will need sanded, just going to do P3000 so that's ideal
What pad did you use please?
flex purples for cut test and orange for finishing testing
I know it’s not related to this but been following you can I please ask a question I have invested in a das 6 pro not sure if I have missed something but after going through all the 1 2 3 do I need a product to remove the polish and lubricants that are left before I go with a finishing polish . Great information on detailing keep up the good work 👍 Tim
yes mate. see how to make homemade panel wipe video. If you want to go elite mode get BH cleanser fluid. If you want to go cheap make my IPA/DI WAter/Surfex cocktail.
Thank you so much will have a look on your vid all sounds complex but get there thank you for your reply regards Tim
I always have issues with any polish marking plastic trim, do they all do this? Is there any that don't? Should I be just masking up all the time?
Thank you so much for the video mate
Cracking video.
Whats the best single stage compound for a hand application?
Your mama's juice
Hi Jon great video! I have previously used the Koch with the orange chemical guys pad. It was my first time machine polishing but watching your Chanel gave me the confidence! The car came up lovely in general but I am still seeing clear coat marring from bird poo and potentially acid rain? Any thoughts on what to do next? Maybe another go at the bonnet with some new pads? I have a 2008 E92 if that makes any difference regarding paint type. Cheers Jon!
some deep bird poo marring may not be removable ash or might be so deep its not advisable to try and remove.. quick rule of thumb if you cant remove it with 3 sets of compounding you might want to stop there, finish it out and call it a day
3m perfect it is the best. Not sure why you didn't include unless i missed it
I would love to see an area where value doesn’t play a role in where things place - just because it’s cheaper doesn’t mean it can perform better.
And the overall winner does everything well.. so your kind of preaching to the converted here my friend which is why I dont just like name the top 3 overall and we do all this testing and discussion
hi Quick question, if you were to personnel pick a start out DA polisher and compound make(Zvizzer,ADBL,Menzerna) what would you choose??
wolfgang fusion 2.0 that stuff was amazing i cant find it anywere but it would but the most heavy of scratches and woul leave it like wet glass on teh finish
@@ForensicDetailing legend, thanks John x
I love G3.. Best old school cutting compound just a little messy.
Hi, what would you recommend for using by hand. Or is it just better to use an AIO by hand?
Yes m8
@ForensicDetailing thank you, how about something like megs uc followed by bh cleanser polish? I would then seal with seal and shine.
@@ForensicDetailing brilliant, thanks 👍🏽
Which of these 3 products do you think I should use is more permanent and the effect is long.... i was caught between auto glym alex hybrid, scholl s20 black real and 3d 510 cake, which one do you think I should buy you seem to be very experienced in this regard????
S20 black. Very oily. Low dust.
Hi John
Really enjoyed your video. Very informative. I've been using cartec refinish 9000 which is excellent. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Also just been recommended menzerna 400 heavy cut one step
Why Perfect finish costs so much in your country? Here in Italy is about 18€ 250ml
3D One for me, and Perfect Finish. 👍
Perfect Finish is designed for rotary. EX 04/06 is for DA.
you use compound after claying and before polishing? what’s the benefit over not using it?
you use compound to remove deeper defect like deep swirls or sanding marks.
What would you say was the best pad combination to use with the angel wax would be ?
flex purple for harder paints. Flex orange for softer. job done.
@@ForensicDetailing perfect thank you so much.
