I live in NYC too, just ordered the Max. The other options are probably better if you ride for leisure on bike paths or more suburban roads, but in the city, you can't really go so fast. And the Max has a really solid build quality, and the best range compared with these 3. I don't want to have to worry about charging it every night.

Great review. Congratulations for writing real honest reviews. Something hard to find on the internet.
I have been working in a sharing mobility company for 3 years, we used to have ES4 and Max (non foldable) and quality construction difference between ES4 and Max is huge. The Max has zero problems while ES4 is a nightmare. Who would say they are made from the same manufacturer? max = hammer, es4 = toy

Something never mentioned in any review that made me regret getting the Apollo City. I really loved my Apollo city scooter until I got a flat tire. First I tried to buy replacement from Apollo but decided against it when I saw that it was going to cost me $50 for two inner tubes ($20 for shipping! Really!). I went shopping for tires elsewhere and found that they use a weird rim size (50-134) which is not the standard size rim that most manufacturers use for 8.5” x 2” tires. So you can’t use the 8.5”x 2” tires that are widely available for most scooters like the M365. I found only one seller on Amazon that sells the right size tires for this scooter, but they’re poor quality. And if you want to install solid tires on it, you will not find solid tires that fit 50-134 rims.

Have you tried getting an air hose on the flat tyre? You won't unless you get a valve extender. They hid that part in their video on how to change the tyre the duplicitous pricks. I've had 4 flats which turn out not to be punctures but the tube splitting on the seam. They said it can carry 125 kg which is bullshit as I'm 105kg and the back tyre just blows out leaving me stranded miles from home. I'm so filthy on this as I pad $1350 for a scooter I refuse to ride now because it's so unreliable. You need to be able to repair it yourself or be prepared to be arse raped paying to get it fixed.

Bought an Apollo City at a pawn shop today for $500 CAD ($384 USD) with 580 kilometers (360 miles) on it, rode it for 14 kilometers (8.6 miles), and the battery is still at 4/5 bars. No noises or problems. Hits 42 kmh (26mph) with ease on flats, 25 kmh (15 mph) up moderate hills, and 15 kmh (9.3 mph) up really steep hills. Could use a little lube & a new rear tire (tread's at about 30%) but that's it. Going to line the rims with PVC tire liners when I change the tires, and buy a proper pump to prevent the tube punctures that everyone keeps crying about. The $500 I spent, I'll make back in tips in a week serving/bartending. No more $20 cab rides to work or paying $5.75 a day for the bus. Can't go wrong with the Apollo City whether it's pre-owned, certified refurbished, or brand new (if you have the money for any of the above).

Two things I would like to see change on the Apollo City. The folding mechanism on the handle bar would be better if it matched the one on the Emove Cruise where you pull it out to unlock it. This one on the Apollo I feel like the threading would wear off over time. The other thing I would like to see changed on it is a different stem folding mechanism since this one you can accidentally step on while riding.

    • @chuckyte
      @chuckyte 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@philmartinez1626 Yes, if you went slower the range would increase -- how much??? Not sure. We only test scooter ranges at the typical commuting speed we would normally ride at. This absolutely makes the test biased but useful for those that ride the scooters at the normal riding speed. If we went the same speed then you can basically just extrapolate based on battery watt-hours.

If your are going to compare range, you have to use a common speed. Of course the City is going to have less range if it goes faster. Lock the speed of the city to the same turtle speed of the max and I’m pretty sure its gonna be close.

@Stevie Rios The Company name is Segway and they sell different kinds of ninebot series. There is a reason why Segway doesn't like getting interviewed by ESG, a well established company for sure, but as far as integrity goes? I dont think so. Why would you spend that much on upgrades when you can get scooters with those specs for less than those prices? Ninebot Max are made for scooter sharing system. Im sure you own one, there's a reason for that reaction. 90% of the scooter enthusiasts would tell you the exact same thing were telling you. Enjoy your scooter though lol 😆

I agree with this. I bought an Apollo Explorer based on your reviews and they were extremely accurate. It is exactly as you described. So firstoff thank you. I often ride with my 8 year old kid on his Segway electric kid scooter and it has a max speed of about 10 mph. My range is off the charts when I am with him because we are going so slow. It would not surprise me if the range was over 70 miles at that speed. As a side note, it can be very relaxing cruising at that speed listening to pod cast getting vitamin D while sort of compensating for the reduced attention with lower speeds. Maybe there is an equation we can use that computes range based on deltas in speed? I know it will not be super accurate but otherwise someone will have to pick a speed like 18 mph as "standard" and test all these guys with that as a max. My other scooter scooter, the Costco es3 has a top speed of about 16 mph but the breaks were SO BAD, as you pointed out and flagged in your reviews, that it was dangerous. However, due to the hard tires and super low top speed it has a pretty good range I love having disk breaks on the Apollo! I discovered electric scooters after nearly killing myself on a one wheel and think it is so funny that you choose this market to start. Clearly, your detailed underwritten but honest approach can be applied elsewhere. Much appreciated.

From my point of view.... IMHO, I prefer the trigger throttle to the thumb... when you use the thumb throttle, you can't use your thumb for control on the handle. I can feather how much power I need quite easily. If cruising, I control the cruising speed by power level, and keep it at max in P1 or P2. Max in P3 is too fast for me. If going up steep hills, P3 is good.

Even though some scooters are IP rated, they're still electric vehicles that are easily damaged by moisture and/or submersion in water. IP rating is more an assurance of its ability to withstand the elements, but not a guarantee against damage.

Honestly, acceleration with escooters don't even matter that much. The only thing that matters when it comes to power is how steep of a hill the scooter can climb and the max speed it can maintain. Acceleration times aren't that big of a deal unless you're looking for something to play with then yeah fast acceleration is fun.

I live in downtown Chicago where a few seconds can make the difference between safely clearing the next intersection or getting stuck at a red light every block. In this scenario acceleration makes a huge difference.

I just had 4,500(2,800 miles) mileage on my Ninebot, but after 1 run with the Apollo City I can't turn back to Ninebot. Aside from not having suspension, Ninebot was so stiff to drive. Ninebot has the handle too close to each other, and no flexibility. You can't compare the first class driving a better scooter like City or even Emove, from the Ninebot.

Apollo City has *incredible* follow up in pre/post sales and have dumped my two Ninebot F25’s for an Apollo City. Ninebot’s have severe stem, battery and braking issues. Basically 💯 unsafe. The forums are correct and these issues are across all of their models.

I strongly disagree that Ninebot max has best folding mechanism with no issues. I had it and it has worst folding mechanism. I can explain that in detail, but it can't be done through comment. The store which sold it to me admitted they had a lot of complains about that issue and refunded me in full as it's badly engineered (as said by the seller). I rode it for 711km (444 miles) before stem snapped while riding.

One year later (it now Sept 2021) Ninebot Max $879 amazon ($949 from Segway), EMove Touring $899, and Apollo City $999. So price increases across the board.
I'm new to these "e-scooters" and wondering is this standard for price increases for models that are at least one year old from the time of this review...I know the Segway Ninebot Max is much older than that but the price keeps increasing. I'm thinking "if these were cars" there is no way a one or two year old model would cost more now than when they first were released.
Just saw review of the Ninebot Max from 2019 at it was $699 did they make $250's worth of improvements since then??? These prices I got from the links provided and the respective manufactures sites.
