Thanks for another great video! Do you find the thumb stick placement uncomfortable? I feel like I saw retro game Corp say something about them being set further in than he would have liked. I kind of tend to switch back and forth at random anyway if the emulator allows it and the functionality of both are movement. Would be interested in your opinion.

Really appreciate the quality of this video buddy - subbed! The main thing keeping me away from the RP5 is the stick position... especially on the left side. It looks like you can't really make the most of those ergonomic grips/humps on stick centered games as you almost have to fingertip grip it for access. Others have mentioned that when using the d-pad you can't really avoid nudging the stick because it is kind of in the way. What are your hands-on thoughts on this? At the minute I'm still loving my RG556, and tbh I think if anbernic released another iteration of that device, with the new 406v/h sticks and a slightly more powerful chip, they will hit a home run. No device comes close to that ergonomic design imo!
@@y2kcurran I agree the ergonomics of the 556 are a thing of beauty I think the pocket is more than usable though as someone that would love the left stick up top it doesn’t bother me as much as I thought it would only time I notice is if I have both my thumbs on the sticks and need to use the triggers which is rare
We're farther away today from the debut of "GTA Vice City" than Vice City was from 1986, the year it was set in. It debuted in late 2002. To put that in perspective, if they were going to make a new Vice City that was also set 16 years in the past like the original, it would be set in 2008. I enjoyed this review. I agree with your statements about Android on these handhelds. I like Linux on the cheaper handhelds, don't get me wrong, but, Android is the superior OS. It's easy to use, has tons of flexibility, and you can use the device itself to install your emulators and games. I'll never understand this notion that I see commonly parroted elsewhere that Android is difficult to use and difficult to set-up. I'll grant them that flashing a new Android build to internal storage is harder than flashing a Linux build to a TF card. Everything else is just as easy, or easier, in my experience.
I am now in a dilemma, at the beginning I wanted to buy the rp5 without a doubt, then I see many people saying that the odin2 is better, but is the price difference worth it? Btw, thanks for your review!!
The Odin2 is definitely worth the extra money if you think that you need what it's offering. The 8G2 in the Odin2 is markedly more powerful than the Pocket 5's 865. It appears to be even more comfortable to hold than the Pocket 5. However, this unit has a better quality, albeit a half inch smaller, screen and a much more pocket friendly size. Really, the idea of a universal better choice between the Odin2 and the Pocket 5 doesn't exist. Do you want something large that'll play everything Android has to offer from emulation and the Play Store? Get the Odin2. If you need it to fit in a pocket then get the Odin2 Mini. If you don't need more than PS2 emulation and you have no desire to buy "Grid: Legends" from the Play Store (this game is a PS4 port that requires the 8G2 chip or better) then save a few bucks and get the Pocket 5.
When I was looking to upgrade my beloved but dated GPD XD+ 8 months ago, it came down to the RG556 or RP4P. I went with the 556 for the much better and larger screen, better ergos and lower price. I'm sure I'm not the only one, and I'm also sure Retroid took notice because wow does the Pocket 5 look incredible. How can you go wrong with this? You can't.

Can you do a ps2 sports game video using this? Espn NFL 2k5, nhl hitz 03, nba live 05, tiger woods golf, mlb 2005, nba street vol 2, nfl street 1/2… and maybe gamecubes mario golf, mario tennis, mario strikers, and mario baseball?
I also didn't think 4 Pro cut it. 5 was the one that truly caught my eye. I hope the 6 Pro finally is the next-gen one, or they just release one separately. Imagine a machine that plays anything and looks as good as these!
@ToddTronics they use the same 3rd parties for manufacturing which is why the new devices look so similar. I believe they're also owned by the same parent company.
It would be absolutely nice to see NFS Most Wanted Gamecube version to see wether this will run better than ps2 one. Everybody on YT stuck on it for PS2, but we already know that GC is running way more stable on RP5. Nice video though. Looking forward for the in depth review. Cheers

@ToddTronics a direct comparison is not necessarily, cause we know ps2 has issues with rp5, especially nfs mw which is hard to emulate game. But maybe just testing for a bit like you've showcased NFS U2 and said in 2x GC emulation runs great. Id be curious to know does 2x nfs mw gamecube runs smooth? Thank you!
Yo I'm a Razer Edge 5g Ultra fanboy lol 🤣 I also own the switch. But I like your video! I like this retro pocket color because I'm Nintendo Switch boy lol 🤣 my game deck controller is the same color and look of the GameCube. I'm aslo a long time GameCube fan as well.

@@nach0x there isn’t any difference because athersx2 is just a patched version that works with launchers I did try the different versions and oddly the older 3668 release was better than the last build I’m just over here patiently waiting for the pcsx2 port
So at $140 you can get an android 8.8 inch tablet with a snap dragon gen 1. Then spend $60 on a telescoping controller and you have a more powerful handheld at $200 that you can use as a tablet as well.
That would be cumbersome and big. Not to mention the screen on a $140 tablet would be trash compared to the Retroids beautiful oled screen. Not everything is about horse power homie.
I don’t trust these handhelds. Went the safe route and bought a brand new 512gb LCD steam deck on sale for $336.75. Now I can play practically any game I want.
I sold my steam deck to buy this and a switch for my friend, i like the size and oled is the BEST. the steam deck is nice but i have a pc i can stream from to play triple A games if i want.
It's a great deal if you can figure out how to get it without losing your shirt on shipping costs. Some people are spending well into the $300's for this thing which is ridiculous.

I think you can change the color individually on the LEDs, you need to go to "customize" to be able to select different colors for R and L joysticks

for the PS2 emulation try to change Aethersx2 for NetherSX2 you might get better performance.

you can emulate 6 entire generations of consoles with this. you can't do that with the switch and I have mine jailbroken.
You can get a simlocked galaxy s20 for $40 and a controller for $30. This thing is a waste of money.
