I love the fact that you can really just upgrade your printer for relatively small amount of money and you get a brand new machine, always up to date with the newest version! It's definitely worth the first (bigger) investment when buying the first 3D printer. The upgrade looks huge and I can't wait for mine. Thanks for the video!

My MK3S+ is still running steady but this is even more enticing to make the upgrade / add a second printer to my lineup! Great upgrades as always from the Prusa team, this is awesome.
It is so hard to justify the upgrade kit when it is only 200 dollar difference from just the full printer kit. I keep waiting to see if the upgrade kit will decrease in price, but I may just have to get a third printer.
@@jdhobbitson yeah if I was hurting for space I’d more strongly consider an upgrade kit but the price difference makes it way better for me to just get another printer. I’ve got an Ender 3v2 I was planning to upgrade currently collecting dust, starting to look like some prime real estate 🤔
@@jdhobbitson Just get a friend hooked on that hobby by supplying them with printed stuff. I built my MK4 last week and sold the previous MK3S+ to that friend. And I kind of want that second printer back. I am just waiting for my 10h print to finish so I can try out that new thing I found on printables...
Nice. Very nice. MK3(S) owner here. I've been very with my printing years in past with it, but it's obviously quite dated these days. I've been planning about upgrading, maybe in the winter and honestly I was looking into Bambu's. But I've seen some parts with them having ringing as much as MK3 and it was very disappointing to see. Now MK4 originally didn't get much of my interest, but if you've been focusing into dimensional accuracy and these new feats you're absolutely back-in-the-game for me. Reliability is something I was expecting already from my MK3 experiences. Excellent dimensional accuracy, minimum artefacts like ringing, good material support, ease of use, decend print speed and reliability. Those are what I want from my printer.
Hello, thank you for the comment. You can upgrade your printer to MK4s with a single kit. The upgrade to MK4 now becomes upgrade to MK4s. No need to buy two upgrades
You get a better dimensional accuracy out of the box with the MK4 compared to Bambu, without profile tuning. Otherwise you can get them both to print the same for accuracy, with minimal tuning. The mk4 is definitely a step up in this area compred to the mk3 series
@@CraftySven Yes. There's quite many good changes now in MK4S compared to good old MK3. Personally I don't give any credit to almost all people touting that XY printers are must and bedslingers are obsolete. Why someone might ask? It's because I used to work in sheet metal fabrication plants and even there in high accuracy and speed machines work piece was moved in many machines bit similarly as bedslinger printer. I don't see any issues in design if overall design is just made suitable for application. Some tend to forget that XY design might quickly thinking look absolutely superior, but many olso forget that one axis accuracy problem will very, very easily reflect directly into remaining axis accuracy too. To my belief next iteration that's needed in 3D printing is new axis that nozzle can turn in angle to create even more steep overhangs which is serious limitation currently in every single printer imo. They're surprisingly good, but they need to get better. Now this change will add weight to print head and I kinda suspect that corexy isn't best style to accomplish this. Many designs can work well. Imo it's very foolish to say everything should be corexy styled. Good overall design is what matters, not frame type/style that can be botched 🙂

Joseph, I LOVE prusa and see you all as the top leading brand period. The quality, the hard work, the support, the tracking of every single thing. You literally pour your heart and soul into every aspect and detail of prusa and prusa products. However, that being said, I can’t help but see the mk4s as another upgrade to a 10+ year old design. Over a decade has felt like an upgraded patch to the same look and feel we’ve used forever. Since the mk2, we’ve seen the same rod system, same belt system, near similar parts, and same basic functionality and structure. The design has been left out over and over and needs a serious futuristic overhaul imo. Something so incredible and produces such high quality prints, needs to also look the part. For us technically inclined we could care less, but for everyone else, it needs to look as good as it works. Instead, to some it looks intimidating. For us engineers we don’t really care how it looks as most engineers don’t work in design. I completely understand that the design has to also follow function. It’s time to look into a new build. A new look and better overall design. You can still keep costs down and still look amazing! Now, I’m not offering to design the new look, I’m just suggesting it’s needed. Speed without quality is worthless! I need everything I make to be functional and Prusa does this. I will be upgrading my MK4's as soon as possible, but I am already pleased with the quality and performance, Keep up the good work!
This is the very reason I chose Prusa: sustainability and long life cycle. Other brands will push you their new printers, Prusa just keeps supporting and upgrading the old ones as long as it makes sense. Compared to the usual consumerism, this is so refreshing. The printers shouldn't be fast-moving consumer goods, it should be a reliable machine you can repair and upgrade in the long haul. And that's where Prusa really, really stands out. So thank you, Josef, for keeping the spirit of DIY alive!
I don't normally leave these kinds of comments, but I wanted to share my 3D printing journey and explain why I love Prusa printers. For transparency, I received both the Prusa MK2 and MK4 free of charge at some point in the past, but that doesn’t influence my opinion. I’ve also received other brand printers free of charge, so I’m comparing apples to apples. Over the years, I’ve used several printers, but none have been as reliable as Prusa. As a maker, I’m only interested in printing, not tinkering. Don’t get me wrong-I’ve used other printers that I liked, but none have checked as many boxes as Prusa. One printer I loved was the Flsun V400, but I experienced dimensional inaccuracies. I tried to fix it, but either I couldn’t or I didn’t have the patience to keep tinkering with it. That’s why I keep coming back to Prusa printers. I’m often sent different printers to try out, but in the end, the only ones I keep are Prusas. The only reason I got rid of the MK2 was because it didn’t have a magnetic build plate. For example, I’ve been working on something I call “Print Wave Metal Casting.” It’s a metal casting technique that involves printing a mold, then pouring plaster directly onto the 3D printer’s build plate and shaking the mold by running custom gcode. The Prusa MK4 has been the perfect printer for this job. It’s important to have a flawless first layer, which I consistently get with my Prusa MK4. I agree with what they say: Prusa printers are reliable and just work. So, I’ll definitely be getting the upgrade 👍

Can't wait to try this new design/update with and without the Hackerboard! I really appreciate how Prusa Research focuses on genuine optimization rather than flashy announcements generally designed to impress without true mastery.
They are clearly running trying to catch up to Bambu Lab. They have never released a MKXS so fast and are clearly trying trying to compete with the features Bambu Lab offer on their printers
@@LilApeWell at least this upgrade kit makes prusas 1200€ printer significantly faster than bambu labs 350€ printer, so that's nice. Before this the A1 and MK4 printed at roughly the same speed.
I can already have my filament load, print and monitor(with camera) from my phone and never have to touch a slicer. Guess which printer I own for a less than half the price...
Its great how much faster updates seem to be coming out for your printers. It has caught my eye once again as your printers are once again being competitive. I care A LOT about print quality, but this printer here finally feels like you're getting back to a good place. If it just had built in camera support I think I'd be sold.
The improvements to this classic machine are looking really impressive. It's now at a level of maturity, refinement, and reliability that no other printer can match. Meanwhile, I've been sticking wires onto spare GPIO headers on my printers to do realtime monitoring and debugging, so your new GPIO hackerboard is very interesting … especially if it breaks out the ICSP header. Keep up the great work!
So stoked to see this! Absolutely writing the book on reliable, well-considered and thought-through research-based design. My MK3S was my 3rd printer and while it's accuracy and reliability still beats out most all other printers at a similar price point I've compared it against, I was considering some kind of custom Voron as the MK4 didn't quite have the improvements and hackability for the price point. Now, however, I'm going to seriously consider those upgrade emails I occasionally get from you guys. It really seems worth it. Absolutely fantastic offering with this.
We have been using Prusa printers in our production facility in Turkey for a long time. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Prusa, which is definitely the only address of reliability. They never victimized us.
MK4 upgrade kits are live. Just ordered mine. You can find them at the bottom of the main page. There’s a difference in the MK4 kits based on which LCD you have so pay attention to that. Says they ship on 9/9/24. Also, accelerometer is not included but available to order, same with hacker board. Looks like it comes with new covers for the xLCD and Nextruder too. Upgrade: $99 US Accelerometer: $17.99 US Hackerboard $14.49 US
After years of wanting to get into the 3D-printing game I finally decided it was time to jump in (knowing next to nothing about the industry). Spent a day or two studying up and then started perusing the various offerings distributed locally (in South Africa) but none of them left me with the "that's exactly what I'm looking for" feeling. Then I read about a Czech-based manufacturer called 'Prusa' that was founded on open-source principles as well as top notch engineering and support and my curiosity was instantly piqued. Quickly skimmed the MK4S product page and knew immediately that I had to have one. Have just completed my order of the MK4S kit direct from the Prusa website and am eagerly looking forward to assembling it and getting my first print out.
This is why I love my prusa. It’s started as a mk3 and is now a mk3.5. Of I needed anything more than my two printers offer, this would be a compelling choice.
I was very happy with my MK3(s+) for about five years. Since roughly one year I own the MK4, too. Its a good printer. The upgrade is great, I will also get the accelerometer and the I/O board ( not needed for me, but a nice toy). What I would really like to have is a "XL mini": slightly bigger than the MK4, ( up to) 3 Nextruders and the possibility to use an MMU3 with any of the extruders->up to 3 types of filament and/or 15 colours.
To be honest, I never did consider getting a Prusa printer. BUT now that this MK4S came out and I think most important thing for me is a perfect first layer and layerlines, this is it! After watching competitors boasting about speed but the final print quality isin´t there. If you think about it, yes it´s pretty expensive but it is made in EU, long lasting updates, support, quality...you name it. I´m tired of my secondhand modified Ender 3. I do customer works and I find myself fighting with my printer when I could be just printing perfect prints. If I could afford a new printer, it will be Prusa next. I´m impressed.
Prusa Brothers and the Team behind: YOU ALL ARE AWESOME 😎‼️ I loooove my Mini+ and MK4. Slice and Print, sometimes i forget to stay for Layer. My Rooks, Frankenender is nice and i love them to, but stay for the First layer. Prusaslicer and Profiles for them, without dealing to set it up. Okay, it's so good that i don't mess with my Prusas. There prints, it's a little boring, because normally no Fail, no Head scratching, no Blood, Sweat and Tears...with my others it's sometimes a fight what i love&hate to deal with it. Prusa=Workhorse and Money worth it! Enjoy life! Greeting goes out and enjoy life!!!
Looks like a great Machine :) I had an MK2S (bought 2 weeks before the MK3 arrived) and upgraded it to an MK2.5 machine. I had problems all the time, I rebuilt the printer several times, bought special rods and bearings, etc etc ... but it never works properly :( Not accurate enough, so the prints never lined up. Really frustrating. The DIY kit is great to save a few bucks - but - you'll never be sure if YOU aren't the cause of the problems ^^ I have always loved Prusa, the printers, the company, the philosophy. I wish you nothing but the best. I hope one day I can be back with Team-Prusa printing :)
I look for dimensional accuracy and I am not disapointed by my Mk4. I will probably upgrade my machine, and I just wanted to lay a positive feedback to the awesome teamwork made so far.
that GPIO board is very enticing, also, the 4 hour 32 minute figure appears to be a BBL X1C. it is worth noting that without the extensive setup time it does beat the MK4S by 2 minutes. turning the acceleration up to 15000 will cause the BBL to pull ahead. its very impressive how fast they made that thing go!
@@JojoJoget these facts sound more like selling points than saltiness. 🙂 If people feel they are being salty, it's more about their feelings than facts.
Even though they are still a little late to the game with some features, Prusa is still my top choice. I just wish pricing was a littleeee more competitive. But customer service....no one is better
I got a used MK3S thats was baught as early as 2018 maybe even 2017. It still prints today, perfectly. Prusa is really the best 3D printer company, the level of quality and support is insane.
Hello, thank you for the comment. We are glad you like our printer. And even this 7-year old printer can be upgraded to the MK4s with a single MK4s upgrade kit
Super excited about this upgrade. Can you please elaborate on the "using an enclosure for PLA or PETG is not ideal"? Not that long ago, it was advertised that using enclosure will prevent warping and increase print quality due to better temperature stability.
C'est top! I love idea of easily upgrading your printer for just 99 dollars. It is funny how people say Prusa is expensive, but you will not see cheap Chinese printers coming up with updates like this, they will sell you a new printer instead. :D
They only thing making me hesitate in buying the Mk4S kit is the fact that my Mk3S+ is still going very strong. I went with Prusa as I wanted something reliable and with good support. A brilliant investment
Will there also be an upgrade for the mk3.9 to a mk3.9S? Or, as the only difference are the motors for the xyz axis, does upgrade kit also works for the mk3.9? Can we also expect an upgrade for the XL in the near future?
Damn, as much as I'd like to immediately upgrade our 10 MK4s, I'm a bit worried about the upgrade rollout. You guys better have tens of thousands of those parts ready :).
This is a really well done video. Everyone should be able to see where the OBVIOUS pros are of having a prusa over the chinese (closed source) machines. Really love every single point you make here!
After yhe ehole video all that stook yo my head was: "GPIO will open the world for unlimited customizations". It they are fully programmable, I want to see how they interact with other MCU. ♥️
What about the Chinese open source machines? lol, I got one(basically prusa clone) used for $69, repaired it for $18, threw my pi with klipper on it and getting insanely good prints, better than my 1st printer ender 3 v2 ever did. Just don't have the budget for a prusa, but they def look nice
Bought a MK4 3 weeks ago after debating on what printer to get over a year, been pretty happy with it :), but those speed numbers... sure look like it's worth the upgrade kit

Prusa keeps being the best 3D printing company around when it comes to reliability, fairness and open development
I can't wait for this upgrade. Prusa is great at this.
After using MK2S for almost 7 years, it`s time to get new one ... MK4S ordered yesterday :) ...
Awesome upgrades as always. Keep up the amazing progress.
Upgrading from mk3s+ to mk4s, upgrade kits are always so cool
Very glad to see that Prusa did not back down when the Bambulab X1 series came onto the scene
printing became joy when I got my MK3! thank you folks !
"Imagine if you could do that with your phone"
Prusa dropping shade!
They are clearly running trying to catch up to Bambu Lab. They have never released a MKXS so fast and are clearly trying trying to compete with the features Bambu Lab offer on their printers
@@elleryfg7853competition breeds improvement
@@elleryfg7853 lol their MK3S was released a year after their MK3 launched. So is their MK4 to MK4S. What are you even talking about playing catchup?
@@LilApeWell at least this upgrade kit makes prusas 1200€ printer significantly faster than bambu labs 350€ printer, so that's nice. Before this the A1 and MK4 printed at roughly the same speed.
I can already have my filament load, print and monitor(with camera) from my phone and never have to touch a slicer.
Guess which printer I own for a less than half the price...
This is so exciting! I'm really looking forward to the cooling. Also stoked about the App, this is a cool upgrade!
Happy Prusa can still compete with the chinese marked - and NOT in pricing but due to Quality! This upgrade sounds great. keep it up :)
Happy with the improvement in cooling, as well as the slicer file adjustment.
Prusa is the best printer company out there! Will be ordering one shortly! I have two Mini’s and absolutely love them!
We have been using Prusa printers in our production facility in Turkey for a long time. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Prusa, which is definitely the only address of reliability. They never victimized us.
This is exactely the spirit in this company. Just love them.
Upgrade: $99 US
Accelerometer: $17.99 US
Hackerboard $14.49 US
Plus $20+ shipping to the US.
Finally, more aggressive way of propagation, but not in an aggressive way. Good work
This is why I love my prusa. It’s started as a mk3 and is now a mk3.5. Of I needed anything more than my two printers offer, this would be a compelling choice.
Happy to see you taking the fight to the competitors
"We now have injection molded parts, like for the screen!"
:O
"Don't worry, you can still print it!"
Whew... such a relief!
I'm so glad that this printer is faster than competitor 1 and competitor 2!!!
My day 1 mk4 has been rock-steady since the moment I unboxed it. Excited to see what new things it'll be capable of with these new tweaks!
Nice updates - cool product. Looking forward to the upgrade package for my mk4 ;-)
I really missed the 0.3 Draft profile. I'm glad to see a 0.28 Draft profile come back.
already ordered the upgrade kit. cant wait!
Looks like a great Machine :)
I had an MK2S (bought 2 weeks before the MK3 arrived) and upgraded it to an MK2.5 machine. I had problems all the time, I rebuilt the printer several times, bought special rods and bearings, etc etc ... but it never works properly :( Not accurate enough, so the prints never lined up. Really frustrating. The DIY kit is great to save a few bucks - but - you'll never be sure if YOU aren't the cause of the problems ^^
I have always loved Prusa, the printers, the company, the philosophy. I wish you nothing but the best. I hope one day I can be back with Team-Prusa printing :)
WE LOVE YA, PRUSA! KEEP ON MAKING AWESOME PRINTERS!
That upgrade will do big things for the printer at that price!
That's insane dimensional accuracy! I'd be very interested in reading more about the testing process and other results 👀
Loving it :) Ordered mine today as a Kit so I can build it with my son :)
Prusa's back baby!
thanks for the review on the MK4S😉
I really like this 3d printer, very successful machine, I am looking forward to the upgrade
Asking the real question. Will there be Gummi Bears?
That's a real good question for the upgrade kit...
This might be the only reason I will buy it 😂
I look for dimensional accuracy and I am not disapointed by my Mk4. I will probably upgrade my machine, and I just wanted to lay a positive feedback to the awesome teamwork made so far.
I will be ordering the upgrade kit for my MK4 immediately! I hope that some of these improvements will come to the XL as well.
I’m half way through building my 2nd and 3rd Mk4, going to have to upgrade them from the get go!!
that GPIO board is very enticing, also, the 4 hour 32 minute figure appears to be a BBL X1C. it is worth noting that without the extensive setup time it does beat the MK4S by 2 minutes. turning the acceleration up to 15000 will cause the BBL to pull ahead. its very impressive how fast they made that thing go!
Love Prusa, my best printer by far.
That are great upgrades!! Looking forward to someday have this printer!!
I like how they say (competitor 1) instead of bambulab X1C
@@3DThird better than mud slinging. Not necessary. Content creators will do that. 😁

That’s how you know they are salty about that one company
@@JojoJoget these facts sound more like selling points than saltiness. 🙂 If people feel they are being salty, it's more about their feelings than facts.
@@JojoJoget It's pretty common for companies to not name their competitors when showing comparisons tbf
Even though they are still a little late to the game with some features, Prusa is still my top choice. I just wish pricing was a littleeee more competitive. But customer service....no one is better
This thing looks awesome! We'll done!
If I ever need a new machine to add to my small Prusa fleet, I'll be sure to go straight for you guys again!
The hackboard is an amazing idea
Super excited about this upgrade. Can you please elaborate on the "using an enclosure for PLA or PETG is not ideal"? Not that long ago, it was advertised that using enclosure will prevent warping and increase print quality due to better temperature stability.
this is it. this is the pinnacle of engineering
C'est top! I love idea of easily upgrading your printer for just 99 dollars. It is funny how people say Prusa is expensive, but you will not see cheap Chinese printers coming up with updates like this, they will sell you a new printer instead. :D
Will these nozzles (and profiles) become available for the XL? Also hardened versions of them?
Hopefully soon!
Hi Will. Yes there is one:
www.prusa3d.com/product/original-prusa-mk3-9-to-mk3-9s-upgrade-kit-2/
I have been waiting for a perfect moment to order a prusa printer, thuik this is it.
Damn, as much as I'd like to immediately upgrade our 10 MK4s, I'm a bit worried about the upgrade rollout. You guys better have tens of thousands of those parts ready :).
Printers have really improved
8:04 Huge respect Prusa!
Prusa put in a fake input shaping routine and etc. It's way way behind the current printer evolution. It's sad really.
Nice machine!!!❤❤❤
Bought a MK4 3 weeks ago after debating on what printer to get over a year, been pretty happy with it :), but those speed numbers... sure look like it's worth the upgrade kit
Same here. Got my mk4 kit during the Coupon sale. Now i have 100€ Coupon that i can use for the upgrade 😅
@@dotEXCEI_ I am jealous.
I juat got a 4mm and 6mm obsidian hardeness nozzle like 2 months ago 😮💨
@@dotEXCEI_ I bought it just two days before the coupon sale 😢
I have the MK3.5 upgrade and I'm enjoying it. It would be awesome if there was an extruder-specific upgrade to go from MK3.5 > MK4s.
I literally went from bike ride, sat infront of PC seen video, told myself mmmm my ender 3 just died, mmm lets buy this brand new version. :D
nice, catching up to bambu! maybe in a year or two of these upgrades, i'll pick one of these up :)
Prusa has become Prusa Lab
Very nice indeed
vamoossss prusaaa!!!!! love you
I had to cancel my xl order awhile back but this is compelling!
Awesomeness ❤❤❤❤❤
Good improve with MK4S congratulations! But I think that you have to sell mounted for the price of kit to catch the competition
Talked with Customer support, very helpful and will get free upgrade kit on my mk4 kit that was just ordered :)
Hello, all unshipped orders are automatically upgraded to MK4s. If it has been shipped, contact our customer support. The will be able to help
@@Prusa3D thanks! Awesome customer support :D
Please add "Cooldown" to the "Filament" menu. Super easy, and super practical🙂
It should be there, Preheat - Cooldown. :) - Mikolas
