Troy, aka "Mr. Does It Right" explains boat building again. I'm glad all the 'sailing' vids are archived on your site. Re-watching over a long winter will be a joy. Thanks, G King, SV Intuition
Between 1985 and 1995 a reconstruction of the Batavia you were talking about was built in Lelystad, The Netherlands. I worked at the shipyard as a volunteer. Learned wooden shipbuilding like no other. Had a great time! The Batavia reconstruction visited Australia during the year 2000 Olympics. Started watching your videos maybe a year ago and then "forgot" to take a look back at your first.
Also, So amazed as to how calm and collected they act when the sh.t hits the fan affecting the boat way out to sea. Their knowledge and dexterity leaves me in awe, and clearly brings to mind how I’ve wasted decades and decades sitting at a desk looking at the clock. Awesome couple in so many levels, and learning what they know would take me three life times. Some of us have to do the sitting, I suppose.
Just starting and you have many uploads. After 7 episodes have come back to the beginning to let you know i am looking forward to them all. So far, informative and fun.
Really taken by your videos. You seem to have hit the ground running. I see such genius in your humor, providing details and while keeping it entertaining for even the non sailors. Great underwater shots. Sailing tips, cooking and to see you both laughing, what a joy!!!!!!!!!
Hey guys. Just found your channel, now time to binge watch. Have to say it’s fantastic, so many of the others are sailing the Caribbean or Europe, it’s great that you guys are sailing around our great coastline. Keep up the great videos.
Great video guys. I don't know why you don't have more subscribers. You have one of the best, if not THE BEST sailing vlog online. Keep up the great work and having fun.
We were referred here by friends that are very loyal to your channel. We really like how you bring it all together and you make it simple. I think it draws a certain crowd. We have been living off grid for a while where getting wifi is an amenity. As we wait for restrictions to lift which has definitely been a learning experience I have really enjoyed the survivor tactics you use. Refreshing. Fairwinds
In this time were we all have stay in our homes and do the best we can, to see all of your videos must be one of the best thing to do, thank you both for giving us this.
This is such a cool channel. You guys are great, love what you are doing. Only discovered your videos now but intend to watch all episodes starting at 1! :)
Thank you so much. Found your channel recently now starting from the beginning. Fantastic. Started scuba diving in 1998, now that I'm retired looking forward to exploring Australia's wonders vicariously. Like so many American Baby Boomers always felt a kinship to our Australian cousins.
Years ago I saw a documentary on sailing. A guy had acquired a boat. Pretty large. 3 masts maybe? Recruited a crew and was sailing around Australia. He had this white bull terrier who was the unofficial captain of the ship. They were in the woods somewhere, a hog comes flying out of nowhere, rips the guys leg open. It was going in for the kill. There was a white flash. The terrier had that hog by the ear and just tossed him aside. Then stood guard over the fallen man. Saved his life. Coolest thing I have ever seen. A lot of what you guys show reminds me of that documentary. Anyway love the series. I think it is great that you go into such depth of exploring Australia. So much cool stuff. Love the underwater and the scenery. Also the fishing the philosophy the cooking. All good. Try canning fish. My mother used to do it. It is delicious. Will last for years.
Sounds like you might be talking about Alby Mangels and his 'World Safari' series. Before Crocodile Dundee, before Steve Irwin, there was Alby Mangels. The original Aussie wild man. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alby_Mangels members.optusnet.com.au/alcalder2/alby.htm facebook.com/Alby-Mangels-30825544925/
Just now found you guys via a couple of recommendations on the Cruiser's Forums. I can see I'm gonna be binge watching to get caught up. Hopefully in a few years I'll be starting my own circumnavigation of Oz..
Love your videos. Done some sailing years ago, and done the road trip through the Kimberly's last year, so now we can see what we missed. Looking forward to your future episodes.
Awesome!! Thanks! Peter Fitzsimon's Batavia is a good read. I grew up sailing on a clansman. Slightly older than yours looking at the cockpit combing. Great job on the hard dodger. Nice shot at the end looking up at her stern. Sweet tunes. Thanks!
Pascale really enjoyed that book. Our Clanny competed in the Tans-Tasman in 1970 so she is at least that old but still going strong. That dodger has been invaluable.
Now that you shared your experience on the dodger Im excited to see what else I can learn from you. I just bought my first sailboat a 1978 Endurance 35 I have -0 sailing experience but hundreds of hours of sea time on power boats. Im trying to go all green, solar/electric drive. Looking forward to learning from you.🤙🏽
I am as I said before am no sailor, can’t swim so would scare me to death lol, have started watching your videos from no:1, lose track of time they are brilliant 👍
Beautiful shot video. Stunning. Not sure if you’ve heard of this method, but an easy way to dispatch fish you catch, is to have some cheap alcohol in a small squeezy type bottle, and just spray some on their gills. It kills them almost instantly and no mess. Fair winds.
Great news, thanks for dropping us a line and we hope you enjoy all of our work. Welcome to the crew and if you do enjoy our channel we would appreciate if you mention it to friends who might also get something from the show. Take care and thanks again.
Yes we are watching the series from the start. Unfortunately have to wait until the whole family is sitting down to watch it together. Only one episode a night. It will be a while before we catchup😄 although I am sneaking some previews secretly on my iPad....
Thats great Martin! We really are thrilled when people tell us that we are entertaining whole families. Thank you again and the very best wishes to you and your clan.
Free Range Sailing thank you for the compliment.Canada is beautiful, I also hope to visit you country one day with my wife. Your story reminds me of the book The Dove I’m sure you’ve read it , if not you should. Take care and safe travels.
There's a couple from the interior of BC who sold everything to buy a boat to sail around Vancouver Island. It's different here vs Caribbean, but it's still very beautiful. Walde Sailing at th-cam.com/channels/E1JO4rQu7XA0fcMtQVC4Ow.html
Awesome video guys. Some hardcore sailing. I'll have to keep watching so I can be a tougher sailor like you fellas. :) Also, I've never seen a dolphin swim along belly-up for so long. That guy had a ton of character. I just subscribed. :) -Ben
Great video. Just found your channel and have started binge watching. I am planning a trip north and hopefully around to the Kimberleys next year, so your videos will be keenly watched. Great to see others doing it on the cheap and making it work.
Your seal friend is a seal but not a true seal, it's an eared seal. That one is an Australian sea lion, found only in the Abrolhos and The Pages, and unfortunately it's endangered. I've watched people spend an entire ferry trip arguing over whether they'd seen a seal or a sea lion. Funny that they were technically both correct. Great channel! Fair winds, following seas, clear skies, abundant home brew, etc, etc...
Northern Australia has very good marine ecosystems as its so remote and unpopulated. Hope you are enjoying all these episodes showing our beautiful country.
Thanks so much Mick. It was truly incredible to be welcomed by such awesome creatures after slogging it out to the Abrolhos. We're glad you're enjoying.
Cheers Sail away. We used to do that when I worked with fish researchers. Ethanol in a spray bottle. We only carry beer and wine now or sometimes expensive whiskey- too good for fish!
Just found your channel, and subscribed. Loved this first video, can't wait to see the rest of the journey...oh, and I love that y'all can fish, so many sailors seem to know so little about it...lol.
your videos are great, love them ,but they make me SAD, can never come to your country for over a short time..... too restrictive.. for an old American to stay very long.. I have been to OZ did the Gold coast Cannes to Sydney... best diving ever
I love the seagulls! Have either of you ever read Jonathan Livingstone Seagull by Richard Bach? He is a favorite author of mine. As you might guess from where I am commenting, I am starting over from the beginning of FRS! Tim
Sorry to be at you again, but I was also just wondering if you've ever thought about using some sort of dampening plate hung from the boom swung out to one side to lessen the rolling at anchor?
Hey guys, I see you started this little adventure from Perth. Is that where you're from?? I know it was a couple of years ago now but was wondering if you'll be heading back over this way again some time?? I'm based in Bunbury, if you do get over this way would love to catch up. My shout for a cuppa and maybe you can take me for a run on the Mirrool. Love the video, hope you're still cruising ok. Cheers for now... ;-}
After following you through all the videos, I went back to the first one. how is this your first video? it's better than most sailing videos out there.
Welcome Patrick. We try to deliver an episode per week (next month will be hard) but there's a lot here to get into. Hope you enjoy the lot and don't worry- production gets better as we learn along the way.
Hey Troy, I wondered about your water usage as full time liveaboards and travelling to remote areas. What sort of watermaker did you go for? Do you have a main tank or store in smaller containers? Love these videos.

Also love the music in this episode....Glass Animals❤️
2:20 That dolphin is the CUTEST!! I love how playful these beings are... enchanting
They are regular and welcome companions. We are now in the far north and enjoy the show put on by little Spinner Dolphins.

Such natural beauty! Everyone should make it a goal to live off grid for at least a few years and discover the wonders of our planet!
Totally agree Claude.
Just found your channel today and love the go simple philosophy. Nicely done!
Me too😍
Love watching your video clips.
I am no sailor but I love this pure adventure.

You guys are an inspiration! I shall now watch every one of your videos from the saloon of my narrowboat on the Bristol Avon, UK :-)
Thanks Malcolm, delighted to have you aboard.
Very professional and entertaining...
what awesome footage! how were those welcoming to smoother water Dolphins!! yay !!!
There will be plenty of welcoming crocodile footage in the upcoming Kimberley vids!

Northern Australia has very good marine ecosystems as its so remote and unpopulated. Hope you are enjoying all these episodes showing our beautiful country.
Awesome! would have loved to see your technique to clean up the tuna
There is some fish processing buried in the playlist and more to come- promise.
Great work guys!!!!

We wish you happy viewing!
Nice video
Magical!
What was that very grovy song at the 3 minute mark. Love your vids
Great video
Hi, great videos. Thank you for sharing.
Tip - cheap liquor poured on the fish gills will avoid the “bat”
Cheers Sail away. We used to do that when I worked with fish researchers. Ethanol in a spray bottle. We only carry beer and wine now or sometimes expensive whiskey- too good for fish!
I like it, I like it alot😍
Hi Dawn
Just found your channel, and subscribed. Loved this first video, can't wait to see the rest of the journey...oh, and I love that y'all can fish, so many sailors seem to know so little about it...lol.
Thanks for joining the journey! We will be filming a few segments soon to help with cruisers getting a fish in the fridge, stay tuned.
your videos are great, love them ,but they make me SAD, can never come to your country for over a short time..... too restrictive.. for an old American to stay very long.. I have been to OZ did the Gold coast Cannes to Sydney... best diving ever

Seals attack people doing dumb things but usually they re ok if there's no pups.
Nice, really nice, well done happy daze : )
(Oops sorry Mike, great minds an all that)
Cool
u guys should do a boat tour
soon
My new favorite TH-cam channel 😍 I just wish I knew what the name of your boat is!

After following you through all the videos, I went back to the first one. how is this your first video? it's better than most sailing videos out there.
we are new to your vlog and we love it...looking forward to more

Hey Troy, I wondered about your water usage as full time liveaboards and travelling to remote areas.
What sort of watermaker did you go for? Do you have a main tank or store in smaller containers? Love these videos.
I'll make sure to detail it in the upcoming boat tour.
@@FreeRangeLiving Thanks for that. Look forward to it.
Probably made gunpowder out of it too.
I am watching you and starting from 1st episode, one question, how much experience did you have on sailing then???
Beautiful dreamy feel to this vid like the others, informative too. Oh Pascal (how do you spell your name?) the mutineers were hanged not hung.
It's spelled Pascale and whoops- good catch. Even dutch mutineers deserve to be hanged by the Queen's English
Hi Troy. Just started out journey and hope to get to the Kimberleys. You may have said already but are you using wire trace for the Tuna? Size lead? Line size? Thanks Dave n Tina s/v Squealer Davina
No trace needed for tuna but we run 74lb Monel wire in case of Mackerel. 40lb mono will increase catches if toothy critters are no worry.
Free Range Sailing . Thank you. 40lb leader it is. Cant find link to be a patron to support videos?

Trying to find the music you used for this video but coming up empty. Any guidance you can give?
I guess everything IS upside down "down under"! I've never seen upside down dolphins :-)
They were a special treat for us too
I'm interested to know what boat hull you are sailing
She's a Clansman 30 masthead sloop.
Only issue I have is that those are sea lions. Not seals.
What kind of boat is this?
Clansmen 30 ?
Yep, 1969
what is the model of the boat?
Clansman 30, 1969.
@@FreeRangeLiving Thank you!
