- I'm Garrett. I'm 19 years old, and for the last year and a half I've been learning to solo sail the Hawaiian Islands and prepping my boat, a Nor'sea 27 to travel the world. After months at the harbor working on my boat, it's time to leave the dock and sail to French Polynesia. This is a 2,400 nautical mile upwind trip and should take about 25 days.

Being an introvert, I actually prefer sailing alone rather than facing thousands of people at the airport lol
I'm 69 and used to own this very boat. She is very strong and over 400 of them were made. Cruising on a shoestring is hard. He has a Monitor windvane which is like a second crew member, only never gets tired or hungry. We have one on our "new" boat a 1991 28ft Bristol Channel Cutter. His lines look a little tight on it. He's young and has a very capable boat.
I’m currently 33 years old and can never say I have crossed the Pacific Ocean to sail to Hawaii by myself. Watching this video reminds me to get my A** up and see the world. Thanks for bring us along the ride.

I’ve done houston Texas to portland maine about 5 times this year. It was fun at first but I hate the long drive now. Especially going to the East since it’s so boring.

When in was your age I always wanted my own sailboat and to sail the world. Instead, I ended up traveling a majority of the US on my Harley. I salute and thank you for these videos because owning my own sailboat and traveling the world was and still is my first passion. I’m 43 now and you just inspired me to make it happen. I’ve spent most of my life as a commercial creel fisherman and I can tell you it’s no joke being at sea on your own, it’s a scary & a lonely environment at times but also beautiful and peaceful. Good to see you keeping safe, good video 🫡

I am 71 still sailing my boat number 46. Always looking for new ones , but so far just 2 wifes in my life. Now i am on my way to the med ! One of my friends in Barcelona is 90 years if age and still livingbin his boat. I am happy to see younger people start sailing 👍👍 I started to be onboard as " newborn" with my parents !

You can not work while doing so(or while you preping for it), so you even lose months of salary (and your job, because you can not get away from it for a month). Stop being this delusional or liar. 8:51 man, that right there, that’s all I want in life. All alone with nothin but the sound of the water hitting the boat while looking at the clear blue sky. Beautiful man 🤙
So far a wonderful adventure. When I was in your age area I was living aboard my S&S Chris Pawnee 26. I sailed her thousands of ocean miles. She lacked 2 things that your boat also lacks, as you found out the hard way. 1. A sea hood to protect the companionway slider from water forcing in. And 2. A cockpit dodger. And with skin like yours ( I’m the same) some sort of Bimini top or cockpit shade. Watch that sun, it killed my identical twin brother in his thirties. All of my cruising boats in the future had these 3 features. You, otherwise have a very nice boat. She goes windward well, especially for a heavy displacement full keel, and with that narrow beam (like my Alberg 35), she is easily driven. Interestingly, you have about the same waterline length as my A-35! Very good for you. My next boat a Kelly Peterson 44 had 39’ waterline. I shopped for waterline! Well enjoy the adventure! Looks like you are. Love it. Great job! PS. I’m now near 80 and still sailing!
As Christian Williams says on his channel, it's cheaper to just buy a large umbrella for a patio and put that over your cockpit as it will will just fine in most weather and you can take it down and heave to when it's not. Best to spend some effort modifying your entrance to be more water resistant

@@directedby100 Not a bad plan. My wife and I quit our carriers in our late forties. We had a paid for well equipped boat and said ‘ we will worry about tomorrow tomorrow. Never looked back at the money we left behind both quitting at the beginning of the height of our carriers. My ex business partner (and still good friend), is still in the same business, and still working 60+ hr weeks. His job is his life. I’m sure he is now worth a good bit of money ( maybe a couple million). . I have enough to not be hurting nor in debt. I would’t trade places with him for anything. I have a lifetime of incredible experiences and memories. And I’m still making them. Go for it!

I respect it. Most rich kids prefer to flaunt their parents wealth and know nothing of hard work due to their upbringing. This kid, whose upbringing we know nothing about, clearly has spent a lot of time learning to sail and pushes himself into these kinds of challenges. Wow, I have never sailed the Pacific, yet this 19 year old has motivated me! Thank you, Garrett! I am departing from Atlantic city NJ tomorrow morning. Got my inner tube packed and THIS TIME, i am bringing a 20 pack of patches. LOL! See you on the other side fellas.
This kid is a total animal for choosing to sail across the pacific during an El Niño period. We just had a class four hurricane almost batter Baja California not too long ago!

Man as a 29 year old with 3 kids who’s only been on a boat a couple of times as a kid I’m super jealous! Don’t ever take for granted your opportunities and blessings!! Keep on adventuring and good luck, you seem like you’ll do great things in life!

Years ago a high school kid sailed solo round the globe. It was followed in National Geographic. He wound up getting married in East Asia before finishing. It was a great adventure.
