    Beautiful sunset and even more beautiful sea maiden diving in for an evening swim. Never met a girl like her. Not many around I suppose. Brilliant sailing and editing.

      Thanks Michael. The videos are a pretty close approximation of how we live- nothing is scripted, we just shoot it as it happens and cut out the more boring details (and some of my bad language). Foraging cooking and sailing is what keeps us Free Range!

      Troy's been a mad fan of Harry Butler, Les Hiddens and Rob Breidel etc. etc. for many years. When you have a passion for something it's easy to learn about it. We travelled the West Coast in 2015 and again in 2017 to make the videos. Most of our information has come from the Fremantle Sailing West Australian Cruising guide but also just exploring ourselves. Ok, that's answered that question..... I had heard/read that arborists weren't keen on spiking trees they weren't taking out due to the trees getting disease from the wounds. I thought you'd be aware of that; and you were. You're an amazing guy. And another question answered ref the damping mech off the boom.

    The homemade stabilizer thing works surprisingly well. We used to do it using outriggers on boats here in Florida. One on each side really knocks the roll down, although we used water anchors, but same concept.
    I have to say you are like a cross between Steve Irwin and Macgyver! Jack of all trades! And scored a lovely catch in your woman too! My new favorite channel! Thanks from 'Merica!

    How on earth did you think to pack your tree climbing equipment on a yacht!! Also Man! you guys make it seem like you could shove off, and live on fish and coconuts with no worries. A dreamy spinnaker run! To top it off, as I said earlier ace fisherman, and ace sailors!

    • @FreeRangeLiving
      @FreeRangeLiving  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We don't take any meat with us and don't see any shops for over 3 months sometimes so we very much rely on fish/seafood to keep going. Pascale spent about $2000 approx. on dry goods which we are still living on 8 months later! That climbing gear may just help put money back in the kitty when our money runs out but is great for getting fresh coconuts.

    On a technical note- Interesting how a 20 litre pail is enough to stabilize such a big boat.

    • @FreeRangeLiving
      @FreeRangeLiving  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mirrool is only 4 ton and it was just sufficient to stop her synchronising with the waves and having the roll amplified. Simple, cheap, effective- our favourite things.

    Another great video!!! Fastastic! Whom is the video editor?
    Oh the coconut water when filtered and proper sterile procedure is used, in the most dire absolute necessity "could be" used. But it is NOT the same as blood plasma. Coconut water has too much potassium and too little sodium. It is also the wrong pH. It also causes a diuretic effect. It would not rehydrate. IT IS DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED ANYWHERE IN ANY SITUATION. 11% of patients receiving coconut water IV had severe reactions. 89% of patients that get it IV do not die is not a reason to use it.
    Drink it by mouth. Then it does help to rehydrate and add calories.

    • @FreeRangeLiving
      @FreeRangeLiving  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you for such a detailed reply T.D.H. Pascale is the primary editor usually, then we both get together and rough out the final arrangement. Pas then adds music and we try eliminate any shots with wind or audio aberrations. Sometimes, they are key to the story and we are forced to keep them. In the future, we hope to get better sound gear, but we don't get paid for this and have to allocate it to the future budget. Pascale does some final tweaking, then we get together and try and equalise the volume across the video to eliminate quiet and loud segments. We are still teaching ourselves and hope to produce better work in the future. In the meantime, please enjoy our beautiful country and our efforts to convey it.

    Not sure if you know, but here is a recipe I learn't in Fiji. Kokoda www.lifestylefood.com.au/recipes/16530/kokoda Personally i don't discard the juice. coconut milk can be made squeezing the grated coconut through some muslin cloth with water. Also great eaten with cassava or potato, even some spinach/silverbeet. Great videos, watching them all. :)

    • @FreeRangeLiving
      @FreeRangeLiving  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That looks delicious. When you say you don't discard the juice do you mean the lemon and lime juice (seems like a waste)? We got some lemons and limes when we're in Weipa so I'll have to try it out. Yup we've been making coconut milk by food processing the flesh with water and squeezing through muslin and we've just arrived in coconut country on Thursday Island now, so good timing!

    • @O_Dingo77
      @O_Dingo77 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah keep the lime/lemon juice, it can be added to other dishes. Sweet that your at Thursday Island, I grew up in Darwin and played Rugby Union with the Ti boy's. Binge watching, on Ep 5 now :)
