    Don't you ever worry about crocs? I've been up as far as Daintree in northern Queensland and all they kept banging on about was the crocs!

      At this point they weren't far enough north to have to worry about crocs. They're more of a problem in the Northern Territory and northern Queensland than they are on the WA coast.

    I wish I was there.
    Great bugs!! I live in Florida in US our bugs are like those no claws. Taste great. Why did you let the big one go in the other vid? They make the same noise too. Super video! Share the recipe for the first fish. I got to pass on the ink though. Love the taste of squid.

    • @FreeRangeLiving
      @FreeRangeLiving  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup Panuliris lobster occur throughout he worlds tropics in one form or another. We let the big one go because we had enough food and could just catch more whenever we wanted to. That lobster will breed and make offspring also so large at least. Also, we just felt like it.
      Try squid ink pasta before writing it off. I was dubious too but it tasted great.

    • @tomharrell1954
      @tomharrell1954 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Free Range Sailing I thought so. The Florida Game and Fish have developed a slot size for some fish. You may keep a certain number of the fish in a specific size slot. Too small goes back and too big goes back. It seems to work. I have seen 3 different species come back from over fishing. I have watched this video s dozen times and it's just fabulous. God Bless.

    Interesting history of the area and it's role in the development of British nuclear weapons. How strange and eerie if that remnant you found was actually part of the frigate HMS Plym, in which Britain's first nuke was detonated inside her hull as part of Operation Hurricane. Curiosity drove me to try and find out if any other nukes were ever tested this way, and it seems not. Wiki says the Brits were particularly worried about a nuke being smuggled into port on board a ship at the time. All interesting stuff....and topped with a mutant nuclear lobster!!

    Just found you two, Thank you for bringing us along on your travels, and explaining both what you are doing and why in a way that neither considers us idiots nor assumes we already know. A lot of us are armchair sailors, (I certainly am) and watching inland boaters in Europe, Tally Ho, Ran sailing, Sailing Uma and now you, are my escape and travels that I'll never get to do myself. So thank you so far and keep it up, I've a few years of watching to do yet!

    Coming from Maine, USA, the home of the best cold water lobster, it is usually wise to leave the BIG ones in the sea as they are usually the breeders and help increase the population so we all can catch and eat the "normal: size ones. • @FreeRangeLiving
      @FreeRangeLiving  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks SV Nimbus. You've got eagle eyes but fear not, that green tank is reserved for holding waste oil between visits to offloading facilities. Each change is 2 litres so it never gets very full. All of our ULP is stored above deck and cannot make its way to accumulate vapour in any void.I can't say if the radioactivity is a concern- I'll let you know if we have kids and they look a little weird.Welome to our channel and enjoy!

We may most likely kill ourselves but in a blink of an eye in natures time our presence will be completely erased as though we were never here. It is amazing that not too long ago in History lobster wasnt even considered very edible. I have heard that the poor and servant class primarily harvested lobster to supplement their diet and it gradually caught on amoung the mainstream to be the delicacy it is today inspiring an entire industry around the world and many dishes. That lobster was scary big, and while I cannot say for certain if radiation played a part in it's growth, it certainly is fascinating that it and so many other exaples of larger than average animals near this type of pollution...But it could possibly be that very few people may be harvesting animals in that area because they do not want the exposure themselves.

    Dear Troy and Pascal,
    You are my favorite sailing couple and I wish for you to remain as such. Your visits to the Montebello Islands presents unknown dangers as dealing with radiation is similar to playing Russian Roulette. You are betting the government is being honest or overly cautious with your health. I have worked for the government and studied this science and it it my opinion that governments are the opposite. Governments tend to hide and obfuscate the truth and literally be quite ruthless with citizens health. One plutonium atom can cause lung cancer. The radiation levels can be quite low meaning there are very few dangerous atoms and as long as that one atom stays on the ground you will be fine. If you breath that one atom it can cause lung cancer. Mates it’s just not worth it. If must go there at least ware a mask like the mask you wear while sanding the boat. NOT A DUST MASK
    God Bless
    Tom

      Wasn't he a ripper! We just had to let him keep spreading those monster genes.

    What a sad thing that men can destroy and pollute the earth just to perfect their mass destruction toys... for the rest of the video, its like usual a jewel about the true adventure cruising lifestyle.
    I love your vids.
    Cheers

    We always throw the (breeders) big ones back. They've proven that if you keep all the big ones the little ones breed genetically get smaller fish.

      Good common sense management.

      Okay, agreed. But does that big one have a good chance of surviving? He was not returned to his rightful lair. Can he make it back? Does it matter? Was he at all traumatized during his outing? It is you who know.

      I believe that a big one has a better chance of surviving, plus the small ones taste much better, and the older predator fish get the more toxins and heavy metals saturate their tissue !

    After watching several of your videos it seems that the sea bottom in Australia is in great shape. It seems that corals and fishes are thriving in real life whereas in mass media across the globe they tell us that everything’s dying. I had no doubt that mass media servants are working to facilitate governments in their effort to tax us on every single aspect of life, but that’s just too much to bear.
    P.S. there’s also a scientific documentary about the forests and the forbidden areas (several thousands of square kilometers) around the Chernobyl accident site. Nature seems to be thriving there as well (which is something the scientists didn’t expect). It seems that nature is much more powerful and insensitive that us humans think.

    I love your adventure, but I do not understand English, and I wonder, will it be very difficult to add subtitles? since they can be translated automatically ... I love what they do and I would like to follow them ... Successes ...

    Do you ever get concerned with sharks when you go diving and spear fishing etc?

    • @FreeRangeLiving
      @FreeRangeLiving  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We enjoy seeing them but we get out of the water pretty quickly if an aggressive one shows up. When spearing a fish we aim for where the gill slit terminates up behind the eye so that the fish dies instantly. A fish with a spear through it panicking in the water tends to be what gets the sharks excited!
