I'm a couple years to late but Happy 100! I've given 100 likes! Best Sailing channel on You Tube by a country mile. Troys so bloody clever he amazes me nearly every episode. Thank you for you guys being you.
We have the 45lb Mantus on 8mm galvanized calibrated chain mounted on the bow roller as our everyday anchor. We have an HR 35 Rasmus so it is a bit larger boat with more windage than yours. We bought the Mantus bridle with their older-generarion chain hook for a snubber system and lead the lines up through the bowchocks to the bow cleats. The Mantus bridle is well made with good built-in chafe protection. Greg from Mantus spec'd it all out for us and gave us a great boat show oackage deal at the Chicago Sailboat show a few years back before we even left for full time cruising. The boat came with about 65M of 8mm calibrated chain and a Lewmar windlass, but the anchor roller was very small and short so we got a Mantus bow roller too that matched the 45lb anchor when we bought it, and so far we are happy with the system. The only thing I do not like is our 65m of chain has a splice in the middle of it and I don't really like it being the weakest link in the system. I'd love to have the chain professionally welded or a better/newer splice put into it.

Congratulations on the 100th. I've been around since almost the beginning (under a different name as I'm tired of Google tracking everything I like). You folks have come a long way since your first (still fantastic) videos in the Kimberlies. I still love how you show us all how to deal with sharks and I have always appreciated how you dealt with our questions on the issue. I haven't been able to contribute lately as I'm about to set off on my own boat finally but it's heartening to see that others are picking up the slack and your channel is thriving. I hope to see you somewhere in the S. Pacific some day (while I'm a Canadian, I have no interest in sailing the cold waters of Alaska and the Pacific NW - too damn cold!). BC.
Congratulations on the 100th! I'm sorry to have missed the party. The videos just keep on getting better and better, and here I was thinking that the first ones were great already. Two anomalies (to me) were sighted @~6:24 below the turtle. One looks kinda/sorta like a sea cucumber or longish slug type crawly/bottom-thingy and the other looks like it was an almost polished stone, unlike porous corals or other growing bottom dwellers. Any ideas as to what they are? Was the polished surface an illusion? Or was the turtle in the process of doing the 'polishing' of the latter? TIA, and may you two enjoy many more years enjoying each other, while so enjoyably showing the world what you find and do. Thank you so much.
Im guessing you were looking at a 'Prickly Red' Sea Cucumber and what looked polished is most likely a Porites genus of coral- quite rough if you touched it.

Yamaha strength training! We looked more at our Portabote and we can see that when it is folded, the transom section folds in such a way as to not hold any water which is why it self drains if stowed upright. We had never noticed before till you asked but if you fold yours up, have a look and you'll see this.
Congratulations on your 100 Episodes. Pasc could use the timeless Asian carrying system for carting water in the 20 litre containers. I am not sure of the dimensions of a flexible bamboo lath required but assume it to be around 2 metres and planed flat and to a 4-5cm width, two lengths of rope fastened to the bamboo near the ends and a hook on each rope . The length of the rope should be enough so that you can bear all the weight across your shoulders or share the weight with either arm (both arms) . I think this method simple without unwieldy bits as the bamboo lath would lie flat somewhere ?

Interesting about the Mantus. I know Uma used one in addition to their normal anchor when Dan rode out a hurricane last year. I upgraded my ground tackle this year - 15kg (34lb?) Rocna and 70 metres of 10mm galv chain with 25 metres of 18mm anchorplait spliced on (the boat weighs around 5500kg (12,000lb)). That chain is over 3kg per metre and it's unbalanced the boat a bit so I may have to shorten it or put some weight in the stern. Mind you I had two guys with a combined weight of around 350lb stand on the transom and it just about balanced the boat 😲
35 meters of 10mm will be plenty for your boat if backed up with 50 meters of nylon. 3 strand is inexpensive and has good elastic properties. In your position, I would split the chain and stow the spare with its nylon further aft. You can always join it again if you absolutely have to.

Hello Troy. I have a question that I could definitely find on Google, but I'd much rather ask you ... Why aren't storm anchors used in place of "normal" anchors all the time ? What I mean is, since the role of an anchor is to secure a boat from drifting in normal conditions and a storm anchor is used for high winds (rough seas) why not use it all the time for the added protection? (Obviously I don't know anything about boats but I still love them and your channel).
Often time they are but a large anchor may be unwieldy to stow on a boats bow roller. All boats require a spare anchor so we made it larger to use in strong conditions and chose a Mantus because it comes apart for storage.
@@FreeRangeLiving they are very safe in big wind and seas. I just though that type boat is perfect for your life style. All dyneema rigging and lashings, easy to fix in emergencies. Simple boat with lots of living room! Not a floating condo!

Another excellent episode in one of my favourite anchorages. But I’d like to ask you something if you don’t mind: are you getting sick of having to put out a weekly video, week in, week out, with all the hours of work that that entails or do you just see it as your job for now, your way of paying for life and therefore happy to do it?
Its a creative endeavour which is work but its very satisfying to hear from people that we are making a difference to their lives. We would make A LOT more money pursuing our individual qualifications but to what end? So we can buy a slightly fancier yacht and go sailing when we're older?

Very helpful anchoring info. I have to decide what to do with ~60m chain, some rusty links in the first 3m (boat side), no rope in the rode as yet.
Split it into two systems with 30m chain backed by 80 m nylon each. Versatile, you'll have a backup and not much weight penalty.
Go Pascale hefting that outboard motor from the portabote. What a hand :)

Often time they are but a large anchor may be unwieldy to stow on a boats bow roller. All boats require a spare anchor so we made it larger to use in strong conditions and chose a Mantus because it comes apart for storage.
I still laugh at the strength training you have Pascal preparing for with 80 kilo jerrycans. And in bare feet!
I think you guys need a wharram! Great for creeks and going into shallow water.

@@FreeRangeLiving they are very safe in big wind and seas. I just though that type boat is perfect for your life style. All dyneema rigging and lashings, easy to fix in emergencies. Simple boat with lots of living room! Not a floating condo!

@@Garryck-1 aha ,,, i,m a brown water power boater. A friend and i have 14' wooden power boat we bought when we were 15 years old. We are both 65 + and still getting out drinking beer and smoking the sticky stuff.

The bush beer was pretty good but uneven in post carbonation. We quaffed a few almost flat ones but they all worked;)

Another excellent episode in one of my favourite anchorages. But I’d like to ask you something if you don’t mind: are you getting sick of having to put out a weekly video, week in, week out, with all the hours of work that that entails or do you just see it as your job for now, your way of paying for life and therefore happy to do it?
Its a creative endeavour which is work but its very satisfying to hear from people that we are making a difference to their lives. We would make A LOT more money pursuing our individual qualifications but to what end? So we can buy a slightly fancier yacht and go sailing when we're older?

It takes a lot of time but we feel good about it is the short answer.
Just a land lubbers question: Doesn't all of that salt water take a toll on your skin, like drying and cracking fingers?
