at 12:30, regarding the crimp-on wire termination... this permits just soldering that termination pin into the board, avoiding the issues with soldering the wires. A main reason to do this is that you don't have solder wicking up the strands, creating a stress riser where the solder stops. This would usually require strain relief to avoid wire fatigue and failure. There can be other advantages, such as being easier (potentially) to get all of the strands into the terminal. I've seen issues with a few strands not going through the hole in the board and sometimes shorting to adjacent wires. As an engineer, I've seen this pop up on one of my products with serious implications. No fun!
The main reason is they clip into the PCB. The PCB can then go through the wave soldering machine with out the wires falling out of the through holes. They will probably do 200ish at a time (20 x 10 PCBs all still connected together). It would be a impossible to go through without the wires secured into the PCBs. Also, once soldered, a jig will be used to RTV all 200ish solder joins in one go. Then the individual PCBs are just snapped off the original master PCB.
You mentioned how the MFGs are making things cleaner on the inside lately. I think you have had a hand in that, guys like me are engineers nowadays and watched your channel in college and since then. Good teachers make positive change in the world!
I’m an engineer, admittedly not mechanical and so machining isn’t my area of expertise. I was at a supplier yesterday tearing down a very high dollar, complex, and specialized valve that had failed while in service and there were several points where I would have loved to have AvE there to just provide his experience and see his reaction. Several different techniques, metallurgy, elastomers go into making this valve, no expenses spared, and half of them I recognized or had first seen watching an AvE video.
Good to hear the world is finally getting back to the 1960s and 1970s in that regard. I was taking tools apart long before TH-cam existed too, but my mother didn’t care as long as I put them back together afterward.
Also I tore down one of my milwaukees and noticed every fastener in the clamshell was the same screw. That was amazing to not worry about what screw went where.
Dewalt is finally on top again for impacts. The 961 1/2 is crazy and the mid torque are good too. Just got one mid torquefor free with two 8ah batteries for $300 total
@UnimportantAcc probably what you're used to. I don't want to start a brand war, but I use makita and can't stand the triggers on milwaukee or dewalt. Definitely "what you're used too" plays a part in it.

I run makita and Dewalt. Dewalt is pretty tough actually, but always a little rough. They take serious abuse unlike Milwaukee which dies all the time. Makita is smooth, ergonomic, precise and really reliable, but it always lacks a bit of power. I run both for a reason.
The “flap” is a slot for an optional Bluetooth “ToolConnect” smart chip module that lets a foreman track tools, assign tools, disable/enable tools, and receive alerts when tools are taken. Some interlocking tool cases have a slot for it too. They make a battery interposer that can lock in to the battery slot to add the same functionality to their tools that don’t have the chip slot.
Also, the depth gauge/dust extractor comes off the tiny adjustable blade guard without tools… just like the Milwaukee version. You just have to drop the depth gauge all the way and slide the release button. The flip-up window lets you change the disc without removing the dust extractor, which would be appreciated by the rare breed who would actually uses it. The Milwaukee and others do not allow for this.
As someone who is committed to DeFault, not because of brand loyalty but the amount of money I have tied up in batteries, it pleases me that they’re capable of such fine craftsmanship and occasionally outperform other manufacturers
the 60v circular saw is a beast. it will not bog down. its more powerful than my 15 amp corded and beats the red one as that one my dad has constantly just cuts out when it has to work for a living. i put my corded on ebay a few weeks ago, i never use it anymore since i got the 60v.
The part about 10 years ago tools being gross on the inside is wild. The fact they are making things better is something I never thought we would see. I mean they are making them cleaner better is arguable. Anyways actually love that the guard is not welded to the machine like a lot of tools now and the reverse switch so you can shoot the sparks toward the oil bucket instead of your wool shirt is nice.

The mold making I'm willing to bet is seeing the indirect benefits of additive manufacturing techniques. The wiring looms probably is pure marketing. The casing design stuff is pretty much a result of every damn thing getting run through generative and stimulative tools.
DeWalt seems to have really pulled out all the stops with their new equipment. This is some really quality made stuff, which is really nice to see when so many other companies are cutting costs and cutting corners.

I did some work for an elder gentleman last year who owned a company that sold farm implements. I was assisting him with clearing out the facility as he sold the building and company, or so I thought, but that's a different story. Anyway, he loved to do business with India. He said that once you form a relationship with them and you know they make quality product, it stays that way every time you buy from them. If you've ever done business with a Chinese supplier, you likely found that while they could make very high quality product, they weren't consistent, and without constant checking up on their quality, it would degrade over time. I've heard this from everyone I've talked to about doing business there from private label to generic cheapo stuff. Not sure what the difference is in culture between the two countries that makes the difference, but I'm not surprised to see "Made In India" on a very nicely made tool after having had his tutelage on the subject. I'm always a big fan of competition in the marketplace, and lord knows we here in North America aren't really in the conversation any more, nor are the Japanese or even Europe. Good to see others stepping up to the plate. Kind of scary when there's only one game in town.

Sadly from my experience they do a great first gen tool and in 6 month the quality will shoot way down once the tool made it proof of being hard, tough and qorth it they sell out the reduces quality one
Just yesterday brought my DeWALT DCS438 to our **electronics** workshop to cut the EMI shield for a DCDigital HW2 installation (Sega Dreamcast HDMI modification kit). When I got there I realized there were no safety glasses at the shop. Client was waiting and the work still needed to be done. Safety squints were definitely engaged! I much appreciated the ability to direct the sparks.
Just a thing to point out, I am not as technically inclined as you and read the manual the plunge depth dust collector thing-a-majig actually comes off from the real metal guard. I like my fingers so I kept the guard on but it winds up being a lot less bulky and keeps your abrasive wheels from having chunks snapped off when you inevitably throw it back into the toolbag at the end of the day.
Those wheels occasionally shatter. I hope I wasn't the only one nervous for his fingers when he hit the trigger left handed with knuckles in the line of fire.

You are the reason I started twisting tools before I bought them. Now most tools don't twist but the innards suck. I believe you and Torque Test Channel are the reasons tool manufacturers realize most corners can't be cut.
My only question would be is, at what point is this just a grinder? I mean 20v is definitely more torque but isnt the point of these things to be compact, or am i wrong?
@@jaredslattery4584 That's why I like the Milwaukee. It's small and really handy for cutting hardware cloth, chicken wire, chainlink, etc. I would never even try to use it for cutting 12 gauge steel plates.
@@jaredslattery4584 anything can be a grinder if you use it wrong enough. This isn't going to run flat out 24/7 but seems like you could use it for small metal jobs. Like maybe your shade tree mechanic type work and not fab shop or pipe line type work.

I was gifted some 20v dewalt stuff from a buddy and also my dad and been using it for about 2.5 years now and it works pretty damn well. I have been hella impressed by the inpactor tool that accepts 1/4" speed chuck stuff. With a 1/2" socket adapter, it will literally bust lug nuts loose off a truck. I'm an automotive and boat mechanic by trade, so they get daily use I might add .
At ten minutes in, you mentioned that the handsome brainbox indicated that it was manufactured in India. There is a reason that we now use the term "pure Chinesium" to indicate the lowest common denominator in manufacturing.
China is still above India in terms of high-end manufacturing though. India has tons of QC issues going that weren't on previously Chinese made items (ex: iPhones to handwrenches) I see the wrenches at my local hardware stores that used to be Chinese made and the stamping and forging misses are very rampant on the new India made stuff. Where the Chinese stuff certainly wasn't anything special, but the QC was so obviously honed in to an acceptable level over the past 10-15 years. Either way it's NBD as that particular hardware store brand (K-T tools) is an easy enough warranty process and whatever we already have is treated as a disposable tool you wouldn't mind breaking or losing anyways. iPhone QC issues in the India switchover are very well documented as well. If China was good enough to produce iPhones, iPads and anything Apple then it's pretty apparent that Dewalt, Makita and Milwaukee could wrangle up acceptable QC levels for power tools. And this is clearly the case if you look at lots of higher end power tools produced over the past 5-10 years. Even Hilti uses China to a large extent. So does Fluke. Says it all right there, really. India will surely get better in time, the same way China did. And obviously, obviously obviously India is preferable to do business with for many reasons, though they're still far from perfect and they'll probably just end up the new boogeyman to a bunch of the same sorts of dumdums anyways. (Indianesium, incoming). But one golden sample on one TH-cam video does not suddenly condemn all the progress China's manufacturing has made over the past 40 years either. And the same goes for Taiwan or Vietnam, because there's still tons of idiots out there who think the world's leading semiconductor producer can't also figure out how to produce something as simple as a ratchet or sockets. Can round things off with Mexico too, lots of power tools and auto parts come out of Mexico now and the quality can be pretty great (ex: Wix oil filters). But you'd never get the "invade Mexico" crowd to ever admit how useful they are as a trade partner either. We'll just go make a further mess of things, probably end up with the cartels just acquiring even more guns from the North as well. Same people who cry about power tools and electronics going up so much in price, but they were the ones who supported all the 30% tariffs and idiotic NAFTA trade war bullshit.

I have an air powered one. It gets the discs that that the plug-in bigger version one wore out. Once you make a suitable spacer, you get free ickle cutting discs. It is the absolute bomb for cutting in toigt cornerz.
as a dude who doesnt work in manufacturing, i never put much thought in how much stuff is actually machined, and not forged/cast or what have you. so much machining. and so much human checking and balancing. i salute these machinists that have to grind weight off of high rpm parts
That thing you were asking about is the cover for a bluetooth device so you can locate your tools. DeWalt is putting that on all of there new tools whether it has the bluetooth mod or not. My new 60 volt grinder has it but no bluetooth thingy so I still can't find the damn thing in my shop.
I think the flapulator 7:15 is used on other tools for a belt clip or joist hanker. As you say yourself 10:45 it is modular must be using the mould for more than one tool.
Looks very well built. It does look like some of the cabels running into the motor have been subject to a little pinching though. I'm sure she will be fine.
Glad we're not total idiots for calling this thing the GOAT. The only downside of it is remembering all the years you listened to a 22,000 RPM air cut-off tool 6 inches from your head under howl away under a car when something like this could have been in the tool box.
I bought a Mikwaukee tool earlier this year, had good luck with it doing eavestroughing (cutting trough material).... Diamond blade cutting 1/4 inch Hardie sheets, NO GO! About 1 inch per minute cutting and it stalls out constantly, long story short, ran to Home Depot for the Dewalt cutting tool, WOW, night and day difference, it's as if it has 4 times the power, not exaggerating either. Awesome tool! I haven't picked up the Milwaukee since.
You’re 4.5” grinder DOESNT do the same thing…it’s a different tool for different applications. Does your grinder spin fwd and rev? Can it fit inside a 2x4 wall cavity and slice a pipe? Can your grinder not wake up babydoll while grinding at the same time the head is off kilter 90*? I shall stop…

I am a red fan, but the yellow has pulled away. IMHO team yellow makes better construction tools. Team red is not far behind, but has automotive tools as well. Need both!!!

I'm an Ali plate boat builder and recently got this tool to get into tight places. I was less than impressed until I was able to source some 3inch carbide blades from Gina. But glad to see it's a quality tool in the guts.
He never got it off. He ended up removing the adjustable blade guard with the dust extractor/depth gauge still attached. It comes off without tools, you just drop the depth gauge, pull the release slider, and rotate forward. If the blade guard turns to the next detent instead you just keep turning until it hits the last detent and separates from the extractor/gauge. Also, the flip up window is for changing blades which the other 3” cut off tools don’t allow you to do without removing the extractor/gauge.
If you looked through the service manual you'd know exactly how to take one of these apart and put it back together. Would be nice if we had access to these. Edit, looks like we do. Color me shocked. First motorbike I got (a 125cc Honda from the late 80s, when I was far too young and tiny (11) for a 125) came with a 400 page service manual. Exploded diagrams of everything. Stayed up all night reading it.

I recently bought the dewalt dcf414 rivet gun. Dewalt may take time coming out with new tools but the do a good job of it. I also owe alot of Milwaukee tools

This one is great. To bad it's hard to get in my location so i had to get a ridgid one. It's not bad either, better than Ryobi/Milwaukee ones anyways. This one has a great platform and guard, lots of power, great depth adjustment. The only downsides are the arbor size and slightly larger bulk compared to other tools.
I really like my husky cordless saw, i power out before the battery. Im a hardcore dewally user, after they honored warranty by only sending parts so i could repair tool myself. That alone impressed me. I didnt have to pay postage,wait and hope i get it back in a month. 15 minutes and tool was repaired.

You are the reason I started twisting tools before I bought them. Now most tools don't twist but the innards suck. I believe you and Torque Test Channel are the reasons tool manufacturers realize most corners can't be cut.
The small mystery hatch is for tool connect a Bluetooth tracker of sorts I believe.

@@jaredslattery4584 That's why I like the Milwaukee. It's small and really handy for cutting hardware cloth, chicken wire, chainlink, etc. I would never even try to use it for cutting 12 gauge steel plates.
@@jaredslattery4584 anything can be a grinder if you use it wrong enough. This isn't going to run flat out 24/7 but seems like you could use it for small metal jobs. Like maybe your shade tree mechanic type work and not fab shop or pipe line type work.

I was gifted some 20v dewalt stuff from a buddy and also my dad and been using it for about 2.5 years now and it works pretty damn well. I have been hella impressed by the inpactor tool that accepts 1/4" speed chuck stuff. With a 1/2" socket adapter, it will literally bust lug nuts loose off a truck.
I'm an automotive and boat mechanic by trade, so they get daily use I might add .

At ten minutes in, you mentioned that the handsome brainbox indicated that it was manufactured in India. There is a reason that we now use the term "pure Chinesium" to indicate the lowest common denominator in manufacturing.
China is still above India in terms of high-end manufacturing though. India has tons of QC issues going that weren't on previously Chinese made items (ex: iPhones to handwrenches) I see the wrenches at my local hardware stores that used to be Chinese made and the stamping and forging misses are very rampant on the new India made stuff. Where the Chinese stuff certainly wasn't anything special, but the QC was so obviously honed in to an acceptable level over the past 10-15 years. Either way it's NBD as that particular hardware store brand (K-T tools) is an easy enough warranty process and whatever we already have is treated as a disposable tool you wouldn't mind breaking or losing anyways. iPhone QC issues in the India switchover are very well documented as well. If China was good enough to produce iPhones, iPads and anything Apple then it's pretty apparent that Dewalt, Makita and Milwaukee could wrangle up acceptable QC levels for power tools. And this is clearly the case if you look at lots of higher end power tools produced over the past 5-10 years. Even Hilti uses China to a large extent. So does Fluke. Says it all right there, really.
India will surely get better in time, the same way China did. And obviously, obviously obviously India is preferable to do business with for many reasons, though they're still far from perfect and they'll probably just end up the new boogeyman to a bunch of the same sorts of dumdums anyways. (Indianesium, incoming). But one golden sample on one TH-cam video does not suddenly condemn all the progress China's manufacturing has made over the past 40 years either.
And the same goes for Taiwan or Vietnam, because there's still tons of idiots out there who think the world's leading semiconductor producer can't also figure out how to produce something as simple as a ratchet or sockets. Can round things off with Mexico too, lots of power tools and auto parts come out of Mexico now and the quality can be pretty great (ex: Wix oil filters). But you'd never get the "invade Mexico" crowd to ever admit how useful they are as a trade partner either. We'll just go make a further mess of things, probably end up with the cartels just acquiring even more guns from the North as well. Same people who cry about power tools and electronics going up so much in price, but they were the ones who supported all the 30% tariffs and idiotic NAFTA trade war bullshit.

From what I've seen of Milwaukee lately, they've let the hype get to their head. Metabo and FLEX would be awesome too! Do you think they justify the price?
The Milwaukee name was bought by a chinese company a decade ago. Has nothing to do with hype.
The new high torque seems to be pretty well built, TTC took it apart and found no cost cutting

I have an air powered one. It gets the discs that that the plug-in bigger version one wore out. Once you make a suitable spacer, you get free ickle cutting discs. It is the absolute bomb for cutting in toigt cornerz.

That thing you were asking about is the cover for a bluetooth device so you can locate your tools. DeWalt is putting that on all of there new tools whether it has the bluetooth mod or not. My new 60 volt grinder has it but no bluetooth thingy so I still can't find the damn thing in my shop.
I think the flapulator 7:15 is used on other tools for a belt clip or joist hanker. As you say yourself 10:45 it is modular must be using the mould for more than one tool.
Made in India pumping out some quality! First new DeWalt tool on my list in a while.

Looks very well built. It does look like some of the cabels running into the motor have been subject to a little pinching though. I'm sure she will be fine.
Glad we're not total idiots for calling this thing the GOAT. The only downside of it is remembering all the years you listened to a 22,000 RPM air cut-off tool 6 inches from your head under howl away under a car when something like this could have been in the tool box.

I bought a Mikwaukee tool earlier this year, had good luck with it doing eavestroughing (cutting trough material).... Diamond blade cutting 1/4 inch Hardie sheets, NO GO! About 1 inch per minute cutting and it stalls out constantly, long story short, ran to Home Depot for the Dewalt cutting tool, WOW, night and day difference, it's as if it has 4 times the power, not exaggerating either. Awesome tool! I haven't picked up the Milwaukee since.

You’re 4.5” grinder DOESNT do the same thing…it’s a different tool for different applications. Does your grinder spin fwd and rev? Can it fit inside a 2x4 wall cavity and slice a pipe? Can your grinder not wake up babydoll while grinding at the same time the head is off kilter 90*? I shall stop…

I am a red fan, but the yellow has pulled away. IMHO team yellow makes better construction tools. Team red is not far behind, but has automotive tools as well. Need both!!!

I'm an Ali plate boat builder and recently got this tool to get into tight places. I was less than impressed until I was able to source some 3inch carbide blades from Gina. But glad to see it's a quality tool in the guts.

Watch you struggle getting the vac attachment off was hysterical,I too,took awhile to get it off.....
He never got it off. He ended up removing the adjustable blade guard with the dust extractor/depth gauge still attached. It comes off without tools, you just drop the depth gauge, pull the release slider, and rotate forward. If the blade guard turns to the next detent instead you just keep turning until it hits the last detent and separates from the extractor/gauge. Also, the flip up window is for changing blades which the other 3” cut off tools don’t allow you to do without removing the extractor/gauge.
When you get it good and hot, it smells like the lobby of a Motel 6.
If you looked through the service manual you'd know exactly how to take one of these apart and put it back together.
Would be nice if we had access to these. Edit, looks like we do. Color me shocked.
First motorbike I got (a 125cc Honda from the late 80s, when I was far too young and tiny (11) for a 125) came with a 400 page service manual. Exploded diagrams of everything. Stayed up all night reading it.

I recently bought the dewalt dcf414 rivet gun. Dewalt may take time coming out with new tools but the do a good job of it. I also owe alot of Milwaukee tools

This one is great. To bad it's hard to get in my location so i had to get a ridgid one. It's not bad either, better than Ryobi/Milwaukee ones anyways.
This one has a great platform and guard, lots of power, great depth adjustment.
The only downsides are the arbor size and slightly larger bulk compared to other tools.

Im a hardcore dewally user, after they honored warranty by only sending parts so i could repair tool myself. That alone impressed me. I didnt have to pay postage,wait and hope i get it back in a month. 15 minutes and tool was repaired.

I like to put a diamond coated disc on those little cutoff saws. great for sharpening tungsten when out and about
