- I've recently returned to America after spending some time in Ireland. While in Ireland I performed at a pub by the name of Mary Dolan's. It was here that I had the pleasure of playing before a group known as ' The Killarneys '. They were phenomenal. This all took place in the town of Killarney. After returning home I saw they had TH-cam channel, and I found a video of them performing this classic piece of American folk music. This inspired me to make this recording. I am playing 5 string banjo clawhammer style, Guitar in a boom chuck style, and the fiddle in a drone/double stop style. I recorded myself playing each track and singing. That’s a great song, and I have certainly been inspired by a lot of the music of Clifton hicks. Folk music is a wonderful thing. It’s wonderful to see how different versions change over the course of years like a game of telephone. Each person with a unique perspective on the same old material. We should be grateful to live in a time in which we can so deeply explore our own rich folk traditions. All the best to you, and thanks for listening.
