Saw old Earl a couple of times.Once in particular my friend was dead, passed out.But when Earl stepped into Foggy Mtn., It was like the Easter story right in front of me
where you from you tell a funny story like that. I remember working a mine in Mt ida ,arkansas and the cousins and brothers there just kept me in stitches with stories like that.
I'm a Chinese guy born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and I absolutely love and respect this man. Flatts and Scruggs are legends and I appreciate them so much. May this music live on forever.

Northwest NC Appalachian mountains is where I was born. My aunt taught me to clog and a love of bluegrass music when I was a child. We are from Irish and Scottish decent.

I'm 78 years of age.... can't remember when I first heard Appalachian mountain picking. Raised in the coastal mountains of Oregon. First 17 years of my life listened to radio...no TV in my Dad's house.....Grand old opry weekly. Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs and names I can't remember... so glad for bluegrass music... Anyone remember The Bluegrass Alliance group around the mid sixties? They had the cleanest banjo picker I've ever heard in my life!!!! Now, the fiddle gets me on my feet!!! I appreciate this platform....

I'm a northerner born and raised in Wisconsin. I didn't grow up with this music but every time I hear Appalachian music it touches me so deeply and I get tears of joy in my eyes. Amazing...just amazing.

Earl Scruggs is always so humble in all his videos. He never seems to act proud of himself in the sense that he enjoys the fame ,but is more shy and embarrassed like we all were as children.. He seems like such a humble man, who is embarrassed by the amount of respect and admiration he gets, but deserves. You can see it in this video. We need more people like Earl Scruggs.
I look around myself today and sadly I don't see any giants in the music industry that can even hold a candle to legends such as these. I'm blessed to just be alive in the same time as these men.

64 year old White Lady from Alabama. I grew up listening to that kind of music. My momma played guitar, several friends and family members would all get together and play. There were banjos, mandolins, guitars, base fiddles, fiddles, hammer dulcimer, harmonica. Also some kind of lap harp?? They would play together at least 2 times a month. I remember them letting me and my sister, "play" the comb or spoons. I was about 6, my sister was about 4. It lasted for several years. So many great memories and music.

We had a gentleman broke down with his Chevy truck at our automatic transmission shop he had not much money so he played the banjo for us and we fixed that transmission for free ,and I'll never forget it ❤😂❤😂❤😂🎉
One of my favorite memories was camping in the hills of Kentucky and sitting around the campfire and when the sun went down someone in the holler was picking there banjo it was so clear and surprising loud and flawless whoever you are thanks
I had the pleasure of meeting Lester and Earl years ago and Earl was the most humble, polite and talented man I have ever known. Heaven welcomed him with open arms.
I sit with tears as I listen and reminisce about my sweet Daddy. Earl Scruggs was one of his favorites. Daddy’s in heaven for 10 years now and hope he’s getting front row seats with Earl. I’m a western NC gal too and grew up on bluegrass❤
Don't worry, both of our Dads are up there and enjoying good Bluegrass from the absolute greats. I got another 30-40 years on duty here before I can get to heaven and see him again. It's going to be some long decades.

Growing up in the D.C. suburbs during the '70's I was exposed to a lot of country music by my dad but I didn't really get it until I saw the Seldom Scene at High Point High in 1979. After that, I was hooked. I consider myself blessed to have been here, in D.C., at that time. WAMU, The Seldom Scene, The Country Gentlemen, The Johnson Mountain Boys and of course Country Current. My buddy's dad was good friends with Eddie Adcock and he knew and introduced me to many of these guys. I remember Bill Emerson as really tall and a perfect gentleman. I still remember the free concerts at the Capitol. So sad when we lost him. The finale of a very special era in local bluegrass music.

On occasion I will listen to what I call mountain music, Ive come to learn to really appreciate it after I was fortunate and blessed enough to actually see Earl Scruggs and Lester Flatt play live at my school, Western Carolina University many years ago. Still have my dads old banjo, he was in some bluegrass bands as a kid and teen, he played upright bass, but he also played rythem guitar and banjo, he had bands my whole life, country and some bluegrass, & clasic rock , as a kid I used to set up and break down their equipment at bars every weekend , sitting at the bar sneaking beers and crown shots , I miss that alot.
This is AWESOME!!!!!!! This TRULY is MUSIC TO MY EARS! Just so wonderfully pieced together the harmony and rhythm just flow effortlessly like each note is interwoven in between the prior and preceding notes!!!!! I could listen to it on repeat for hours.
Grew up on bluegrass in eastern Kentucky and absolutely love this. I used to go to a bluegrass festival once a year in Ashland KY and it was always a blast.

Still have my dads old banjo, he was in some bluegrass bands as a kid and teen, he played upright bass, but he also played rythem guitar and banjo, he had bands my whole life, country and some bluegrass, & clasic rock , as a kid I used to set up and break down their equipment at bars every weekend , sitting at the bar sneaking beers and crown shots , I miss that alot.

Grew up on bluegrass in eastern Kentucky and absolutely love this. I used to go to a bluegrass festival once a year in Ashland KY and it was always a blast.
Other music may leave the mind, Bluegrass never leaves the soul.

I love playing the banjo. I don't even care for bluegrass music. I like country music, but old time country. Think Carter family stuff. But playing the banjo satisfies my soul for some reason.
