- THE CORNISH BAGPIPE SEXTET play Shepherds Hey.
SHEPHERDS HEY. (traditional)
Julian Goodacre - High G Cornish Double Pipes
Callum Armstrong- low G Cornish Double Pipes
John-Francis Goodacre- Cornish Double Pipes
This is the first video of my low G Cornish Double bagpipe, recorded by Ria Strangneth in The Great Hall of Elcho Street. Peebles. Jan 3rd 2019
As a Highland bagpipe player, I was aware of Northumbrian and Uillean pipes and even versions in Brittany and the BAsque COuntry, but not these. Very intriguing.
And those are your neighbors!😮
That's nothing, most European and Asian nations or peoples have or have had at least 1 or 2 different types throughout history; France alone has something like 15 different styles of bagpipe and Scotland has at least 5.
more jewels from the cultures england tried to smash! Beautiful music and powerful continuation of cornish tradition!
I was not aware there were such talented pipers in Cornwall. This sounds absolutely delightful
Cornish bagpipes, I didn't know such a musical instrument existed until I saw this video.
First time to hear Cornish pipes, and what a wonderful, Medieval sound they make. Thank you!
brilliant just imagine hearing this in a cornish pub over a pint
Absolutely beautiful. I love this ancient lower sound
Those plucky Northumbrian's and such a lovely, inspiring tune. I love the bag pipes and music! Nice, smooth and cheerfully uplifting. 😁👍❤
The more I listened, the more I liked it! (Uilleann Piper here. We should try more multipart arrangements for our pipes.)
That low G instrument is ponderous in all the best ways!
William Gority what does ponderous mean.
@@johnsticford9862 I looked up the definition : "slow and clumsy because of great weight"
Wonderful instruments. They are like British cousins of the zampogna.
Wow - a wall of sound, like a pipe organ trio!
Fantastic sound. So pure. Back to real life.
As a Highland Piper, Very Cool.
Awesome! I just happened on this channel after looking up Cornish language videos. I love the nice mellow and deep sound of these cool wooden bagpipes. I also just now watched the other video where Julian is interviewed by the Scottish gentleman and he talks about his history of making these instruments. It makes me wish I lived in England so I could visit cool instrument makers like him :)
Instant smile. .... Absolutely.
I love this. It feels as though I have gone back in time by at least a thousand years, maybe a lot more!
Gorgeous! Thank you.
Fabulous to see these playing the Cornish Pipes. Love from Kernow Corner Kiama Australia.
So proud of my cornwall
Amazing sound from such ancient instruments! Reminiscent of the Sicilian triple-pipe, I must say.
Fascinating set of Low G Cornish bagpipes. Lovely sound - thanks for sharing this!
sounds like an old computer game
8 bit sound
Robin Hood, for Commodore 64
Good to see the very talented Callum Armstrong (centre) playing with Julian and John-Francis ! Well done all !
Check out his work on the Aulos (ancient Greek double pipes). Incredible stuff!
Sextet of three musicians, I like that
I think the Cornish pipes could possibly be used in rock music, has a very electric guitar sound to it.
There are 1 or 2 bands that do. We have used them in our rock band many years ago. You may like to check out Prima Norta. A nearly all bag pipe band driven by a modern drum kit. Not necessarily Cornish, but great pipe sound. Probably Gaelic origin :)

The general consensus is that the Romans introduced the bagpipes into Briton and that they were subsequently taken up by the local population.
Power chords!

Check out Its a long way to the top by AC/DC and Copperhead Road by Steve Earl for Rock/bagpipe fusion.
Why i havent seen such thing even i live in Cornwall? Which country does this belong to? I love this sound of pipe.
I'm a highland piper and I haven't seen any in Cornwall yet. They are from Cornwall in the uk
What a great arrangement. That Low G Double Pipe is amazing.
a sextet of 3 men: how efficient!
jokes aside, such a beautiful song and sound. this i will have to explore further
They are nothing short of truly marvelous musicians and have a respectful envy of any sane ( or mad, like me) piper. Thank you, Sirs, and please keep on bewitching us with your talent and good taste. This is from Brasil.
Absolutely wonderful! I fell in love with the sound of Julian's Cornish pipes over 20 years ago - and this has been on TH-cam for three years, but I don't know why I'd never seen it before.
This is quite different ! I remember you giving me a listen to the Cornish pipes years ago when you invited me into your workshop in Peebles. Never heard the big low ones before though.
Beautiful! Double chanters! I’m sure these were used for dancing!
Superb Thankyou, love and appreciation from West Oz Xxx🌟🧚🥰🎼👏👏👏
This is the one of the best things I have ever heard! Probably better than Half my Life! (Well nearly!) 😊😊😊
Ah this is lovely. Thank you pipers.
I love the sound.
Beyond cool there is ,the cornish bagpipe💪☘
Absolutely loved this !
This is just brilliant! The first thing that came to my mind was Christmas. You can see it in your minds eye.
Wow!
I've never heard of the Cornish pipes, the ensemble sounded like a 8ft Dulcian on the organ, or a less than vulgar Vox Humana
Wow, loved it!❤❤❤
they sound real nice. How much are they? Can you make them bellows blown? (I've taken lessons on uilleann and am teaching myself border pipes)
Wonderful stuff gents .
Amazing!
Wow never knew Cornish pipes existed.
Lovely sound!
Wonderfull Nice bless you thanks❤❤❤❤
Fabulous!
bloody brilliant boys...
Fascinating and beautiful
There very medieval sounding , Vivian stanshall would have loved these.
Yay! Hooray!!
Beautiful.
Lovely arrangement! ❤
That is very nice.
Wonderful
Cool hi from your neighbour in Ireland 👍
Superb
The Low G Cornish Pipes are basically like "Bass Bagpipes".
Love it. More please.
They sound just like crumhorns... the double chanters are interesting.
Amazing sound, rather like Northumbrian pipes.
Most excellent!
Very lovely
Very nice!
brilliant
Lovely stuff!
Splann ha bryntyn!
How are these bagpipes tuned into lower/higher tones? Has it got to do with the lengths of the pipes? Interesting that they are two-handed.
awesome! i like!
Marvelous
Harmony at Arthur's Table....
Geddon
Well done!
Love it!!!!
Now that’s cool!
They are splendid instruments, but they are only Cornish because Mr Goodacre copied them from a benchend carving in Altarnun Church.
Do they come with a fuzz box of some sort?
That was alright!👍
I thought Cornish bagpipes were supposed to have a single big drone?
MIne do :)
Whith dub reggae ,,,luv ,thank you,,🍀
Isn't a Sextet, six players ?
6 pipes it seems in this case. As each player is playing double pipes
Nice 🙂
This sounds freaking awesome and would probably even sound more freaking awesome if it were live…Lol… Keep on rocking
Rock me Amadeus
Splann
😅😋😭💩👾. No bagpipe emoji. Very sad
Me too
Where do you get pipes like this?
Allen Edward Lopez Robert Wilson Eric
Beautiful. Like a tune from an Olde English folk tale :-D
Cornish mate, not English 🤬
@@Theoriginalsparkythemagicpiano now the Cornish are going all woke on us too ...
🇪🇸🌹🌹
Sextet because you have 6 pipes between you? 🤘
There being only 3 players, how is this a sextet?
Googled it, it also includes 6 voices? Maybe it refers to literal human voices but each instrument has two pipes.... Maybe they class the drone as a player? Idk
I was confused too 😂
Count the pipes - six
Sum bleddy ansum beys
yn poynt da
where were the other 3 players? hiding behind the door?? theers only a trio, sextet is 6, too ambarassed to turn up?? i can see this bagpipe failed, the other small pipes succeded
6 chanters, 2 per set of pipes. Each chanter is playing its own part of the music, and is a separate instrument. Sextet, like trio, quartet etc, refers to the number of separate instruments, not players. 6 chanters = sextet.
Put them away
What a god awful sound. Hope I never hear it again ever
Amazing!
