Even if it isn’t anywhere near as convenient as just plopping the switch in the dock, it’s still pretty easy, and worth it for someone who loves collecting physical media. Plus anything that can put to bed any of the legal gray area regarding piracy is great. It’s fully legal to use your own ROMs, and hopefully it’ll make emulation and preservation easier in the long run for anyone who wants to try these games. It’s not like Nintendo is gonna do it. Introduced my daughter to Pokemon and we've been playing for a week or so. I just got my first retro handheld (RG35XX) and I want to move my save file from my classic hardware to it. This is a perfect unit and I can't wait for it to come it. Plus I can backup all my games and save files whenever I need to replace batteries or want to start new games without losing progress of the old saves. The playing on computer is just a huge bonus.
I love those guys! I live in Canada and they shipped with USPS to me at my request. It wasn't an option and DHL has been so awful to me in the past so they used me as a guinea pig and it went great! Thanks epilogue!
@@skycloud4802 I like it. I'm in grad school, so I haven't had a lot of time to play with it, but I put it through its paces. The software is extremely user friendly and my eventual plan it to backup all of my GBA games to my computer. I still need to figure out the controller. Ideally I want to use an NSO SNES controller, but worst case I think an 8BitDo will do just fine.
At this point the problem isn't the hardware but the cardridges. I have plenty devices to play GB/GBC/GBA on but getting those gems I still really want in my collection would cost me a fortune and I refuse to reward those cuttthroats that keep inflating the prices.
I've been dumping/restoring GB saves and extracting GB Camera pictures since the late 90s. Back then I used a GBC GameShark that came with a parallel port to linkport cable and a Windows 98 program to use it. I'd take an out-of-game snapshot in the GameShark, transfer it to the PC, and then use an emulator that can import/export GameShark snapshots to convert to standard sav files. For GB Camera, I would then open the sav file in a program called Tile Layer Pro (typically used to extract/insert graphics for NES and GB romhacks), resize it to the right width and scroll until I started seeing pictures. In more modern times, now that computers don't have parallel ports, I can use the GameShark to take a snapshot, restore it onto a GB flashcart, and then read it off the flashcart into a computer. Neither of these methods extract the ROM though, but every game's ROM is readily available for download so that won't be a problem unless I get ahold of some prototype cartridge. The GBOperator is definitely quicker and easier though.
The GB Operator seems amazing for me. I've been trying to get a working copy of Robot Wars for GBC for ages now, but the roms never work for me and I can't find my original copy. Ripping the rom directly from an original cart to play on my PC or send to a phone would be genuinely fantastic. This thing seems cool as hell.
Thank you Wood from the channel BeatEmUps for allowing me to play gameboy games on my pc. The cops just got here tho so guys I'll have to refer them to you
this is actually really useful for me because I don't have the tools or knowhow of how to replace the batteries inside the GBA carts for some events in Pokémon and this will let me upload my save and continue on an emulator so yeah this is actually incredibly useful
Just to let you know, for the air hockey mini game; you only need to buy one card to make it run. We bought 2 of them thinking that it needed both of them.
You actually could have done the training and lessons yourself prior to the pandemic. That is what the sellers on Ebay did. There was a seller was buying the individual Berry eReader cards online building them up to ultimately sell as a bundle option of choices for the consumer. We could have done the same thing, there was enough duplicates being sold at the time. We just did not want to hoard them without not being used. We also did not have the E-reader that we have now to actually use them. It is the Original EReader, not a copy like the one that you likely have. There is actually one specific ereader card that has to be scanned with the original ereader. The other variety will not work with it at all. The specific ereader card was a Isabelle animal crossing card if I am recalling correctly. It even listed in the description of the product with all caps on the emphasis on the original ereader only.
For the record, you could transfer saves to and from real carts dating back to the old Gameshark for GBA. At the very least. It had a USB connection to the PC as well, to upload codes, and one thing it did was let you download and upload saves to the carts. Not discounting that feature here, it's a good feature to have. Just that it's a feature that has been accessible for more than a decade already.
I love this! Make a version of it for every console ever conceived!! Do it! Take my money!!! I want to be able to play ALL my hard copies and play literally everything on a Steam Deck, and for it to be perfectly legal as well!!!
So, does this mean you can copy your original Pokémon Red, upload it to a computer, take the save file and import it into a modded 3DS, upload those Pokémon into Pokémon Home, and then import your childhood Pokémon into the newest Pokémon games? Pokémon.
OMG I always looked at you as a big brother showing cool gaming stuffs and painfully realized that I am 2 years older than you.. suddenly feeling so old.
Got mine about a week ago. Emulator buttons can be remapped now. Otherwise it works as advertised. I dumped my ROMs off my pokemon games, then I dumped the last surviving pokemon save file I had - my complete red save, which somehow survived 26 years where all the others did not - onto my computer. It now lives safely in multiple backup locations and actively in a VC version of red on my 3DS, where I was able to move my childhood pokemon up to modern generation through Transporter, Bank and Home. This product does exactly what it says on the tin, efficiently and capably.
Is there a way to use this divice to take the save file from a pokemon cartridge to put into the save file of a virtual console version of the same pokemon game?
Dam, feeling old seeing you and thinking I was playing my brand new GB in 1989 on the way to school. I still have it secured in a case and still works perfectly. I’ll wait for Analogues pocket to arrive to relive the enjoyment without messing with my original hardware I bought with my paper route money and all those lawns I cut :)
I have a Pokémon Crystal cartridge that I want to replace the battery in without loosing my save file. Would this be a solution for that? Simply backup my Crystal save using the GBoperator, solder a new battery into the cartridge, then upload that save back onto Crystal?
I think you glazed over the official cartridge tag. That is super nice to have if you want to be buying cartridges to collect and want to ensure it’s real
I had no idea you could buy new hardware to play your old games, I love this! I would much rather get out my old games and actually have a way to play them than have to pirate them to be able to play them again, I am so getting one of these after xmas!
Got a pretty straightforward question: Let's say I have Pokemon Sapphire and Ruby Red, and I don't have a second GBA or a Link Cable. Can I rip the save file/game, open them both in an emulator to do the trading I want, then dump that save file back onto the OG cartridge? Going based off what I can see in the multiple videos covering this, I can, and I don't need a bootleg cartridge to do it. (I'm out to collect them all, onto one cartridge.)

Nice touch including all the other Gamer folks in your photo export!
TH-cam, we want to hear about retro stuff.
There, fixed the problem.
Yeeees. I love that you review everything I’m thinking about buying. Even the stuff I wouldn’t think people would want
Bob wasn’t born he was R E L E A S E D
I can't wait to get mine, I ordered one a few weeks ago & hoping it arrives in a decent time!
I love this thing. Sleek in design and easy to use.
I just saw this video today and i bought the device! Can't wait! Thanks for the video
Seeing Bob playing with his hands swapped took me back to when I played the older pc version of Cave Story the same way from start to finish
I'd love it if other cartridge based systems did something similar to this I would have no problem collecting them then.
Thanks Wood Hawker, from the Beatemups channel owned by Wood Hawker. Great video!
I love mine so much. A lot of my cartridges are worse for wear, so I’ve used it to back up all my games and pop them into Everdrives.
So what actually is breaking down in your carts? A lot of these old carts can last theoretically more than our lifetimes combined.
@@chronology556 Exactly. Wear and tear isn't even worth mentioning for the games. It's the old consoles that people worry about in the long-term.
@@cencil6497 replace the capacitors.
How much?
I have one of these coming. Looking forward to it. I've been getting nervous about putting many more miles on my old handhelds.
Is it any good? Mine is on the way too.
I have plenty devices to play GB/GBC/GBA on but getting those gems I still really want in my collection would cost me a fortune and I refuse to reward those cuttthroats that keep inflating the prices.
yup. consider emulation, it doesn’t really hurt nintendo as they can’t earn money from those resold cartridges
The GBOperator is definitely quicker and easier though.
honestly, anything that helps game preservation is more than welcome. this looks pretty simple and effective.
The cops just got here tho so guys I'll have to refer them to you
I too was released in September of 1989. Hi five, sir!
Same. Sept 6 '89. Good times.
this is actually really useful for me because I don't have the tools or knowhow of how to replace the batteries inside the GBA carts for some events in Pokémon and this will let me upload my save and continue on an emulator so yeah this is actually incredibly useful
Thank you Wood Hawker from BeatEmUps. Very cool
Hey, stumbled upon your videos through the algorithm, love your content! :D
Sure, this ain't anything new. It's just a lot more accessible to people by making it this easy
Thanks, Wood!
Can't wait to get it. It definitely will be a really cool side- accessory for the analogue pocket. Especially for pokemon.
The exact reason why I'm getting one 💀
I love this! Make a version of it for every console ever conceived!! Do it! Take my money!!!
I want to be able to play ALL my hard copies and play literally everything on a Steam Deck, and for it to be perfectly legal as well!!!
It would only be necessary for the cartridge based systems. Computers can read disc games through their regular old hard drive.
So, does this mean you can copy your original Pokémon Red, upload it to a computer, take the save file and import it into a modded 3DS, upload those Pokémon into Pokémon Home, and then import your childhood Pokémon into the newest Pokémon games? Pokémon.
I was released in September of 1989 as well. The 20th to be exact.
OMG I always looked at you as a big brother showing cool gaming stuffs and painfully realized that I am 2 years older than you.. suddenly feeling so old.
Oh man, that Sonic Advance tune at the beginning… nostalgia rush
I'm so glad someone else felt that the same way I did.
If Nintendo asks I totally own this thing and that's definitely where I got all these roms don't even worry about it
Easy save back-up is a great feature. Especially with battery powered saves in certain GB games. RIP my nearly completed Pokemon Gold Dex
Thanks Wood!
Was the Wood mention revenge for his Beatemups satisfye grip?
😂
THAT SONIC ADVANCE OST IN THE INTRO THO!! HAVING FLASHBACKS!!!
Is there a way to use this divice to take the save file from a pokemon cartridge to put into the save file of a virtual console version of the same pokemon game?
Another Wulff Den video? Today is gonna be a good day.
Great video as always, still an interesting concept for those who want to back stuff up! Anyways, keep it up!
Nice to see the vid man, nice work 👌
Think I'm probably good just sticking with the GB01 I already have though
Dam, feeling old seeing you and thinking I was playing my brand new GB in 1989 on the way to school. I still have it secured in a case and still works perfectly. I’ll wait for Analogues pocket to arrive to relive the enjoyment without messing with my original hardware I bought with my paper route money and all those lawns I cut :)
cool
Spawn wave was technically right, Bob did eventually use it for Gameboy camera stuff.
How this channel hasn't reached 1m subs yet astounds me.
Ah My favorite Nintendo TH-camr, wood hawker! /S
Just purchased. I'm pretty excited
I was almost convinced he was Beatemups when he said he was Wood
Your videos are so random and mostly unnecessary, but very addicting and truly interesting. you would've been a good addition to the G4TV family while cable was still relevant.
That’s my boy, Wood right there!
Starting the video with Sonic music is a huge plus
NGL that intro had me dying.. his face was priceless. 10/10
