    A neat mod to this design would be a built-in tri-chromatic filter wheel, so you can take color photos without needing to remove the lens for each photo, you just spin the wheel to each lens color.

    I just love that someone took the time to design this incredibly well thought out retro mod. Adding more creative control to a gb camera?? Who thinks of this stuff? Awesome. That being said though, I think I preferred the overall look from the unmodified version, the noise looked cleaner. It may be because the plastic lens smudges the fine details, while the proper lens enhances them. Either way, great vid :)

    I'm glad your channel is in a good place to get a studio. If this isn't a transitional setup and scene framing, I would suggest bringing back the L desk. @MachoNachoProductions had a feeling. You have one of the highest polished formats in the retro community, and I would have been very shocked if this wasn't a 4 - 6 video transitional period. If I may offer one suggestion, more like wishful thinking. Introduce a macguffin. Something in every video moving forward that is in one or more scenes that doesn't belong and is never mentioned or explained. Something for us regulars to find. So we can be like, I saw the green army man behind the Xbox shell at ##:##

    Not only have you taken this product from Nintendo to a completely new realm, but you've done it a way that lends to pixel art and videogame history. The softness of the pixel ratios in some of the natural gradients on the (+) model are stark/border-line realistic, especially when compared to the original. The way I see, you can either digitize a photo on a computer software, or you an naturally take an image of the world as you see it(BUT)but allow it to be manipulated by the thing capturing said image. This isn't new technology, though I am writing this as if it is, there's just something magical about the cartridge portion of the camera. The lens is capable of too much while the brains can only process so much. You've more or less bottlenecked a camera unintentionally and yet the results are astounding thanks to you. Thanks for such an awesome video.

  • @Tore_Lund
    @Tore_Lund ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That GB camera is somewhat interesting from a tech perspective still. They called it an artificial retina because there is some native edge detection on the CMOS itself to aid contrast. It also means it is very sensitive of movement for its resolution in image detection application. There also were some other selectable image effects built directly into the CMOS, but I don't remember them. Raw serially output image is decent, remember the GB uses raster to emulate grayscale so it resembles and ordinary grayscale camera when fed into a PC.

      To be honest, it's always fun to take handheld consoles that have built in cameras (Much like what the DSI and 3DS did back in the late 2000s early 2010s did) to take weird photos or just photos that aren't great but something to archive. Sure the quality and look of it is not great, but the tech at that time just wasn't advanced yet and it gives it a much more retro feel, when Nintendo eventually brought the camera feature back on the DSi up into the 3DS's life cycle. Now if only there was this mod for the DSi and 3DS, and man, that would be sick.

    If a longer cable for the sensor board to main board connection was made I'm sure someone could make a version of this that can still turn so it can still be used in selfie mode (maybe it can be done with the original but there could be clearance issues with the lens assemblies). I guess this particular one decided it wasn't worth the extra part cost/effort into keeping that functionality.
    Also not sure how the exposure stuff works on the GameBoy color but the lenses with aperture control would still be useful as it can have an impact on focus. Plus there might be an exposure limit to the software the GB Camera uses so altering the aperture down to a minimum might help with really bright scenes like the sky on a sunny day.

      @@MachoNachoProductions You should check out the latest episode of Last of Us. Something in there seemed eerily familiar :)

      Most Nintendo consoles use Triwing screwdrivers, so people that deal with those consoles already have those screwdrivers.

    I like how the pictures it takes of signs look like gameboy game signs.

    For the 6-60mm Lens and CS Mount Adapter you recommended, did you use the 30mm diameter or 31mm diameter 3D Printed housing?

      I'm wondering the same thing

      It was the 30mm diameter version.

    Those prints are SLS or MJF, that's why they have such a good finish.

    First off Tito congratulations on the new studio!! And wow!! I was lucky enough as a kid to get the GB camera for my color when it came out I was in middle school! I had a friend Ed that was huge tech Modder and he extended the wires from his GB camera down his sleeve and wired the a button to be able to snap spy photos by pointing his hand and pushing the A button that ran though his sleeve to his GB pocket in his pocket!! He went on to putting full computer gaming setup in his station wagon in high school.. Sadly we lost touch.. I still have my GB camera and probably play it more than any other GB games to this day Lol. Favorite is Ball... Oh man hahaha.. Thanks for this video it was awesome!!

    This makes me think... wouldn't be cool to have an entire reshelled Gameboy with the camera built in? And give it more of a traditional camera design with a handle? That would be pretty cool.

    A mirrorless digital camera is not a single lens reflex.

    I’ve always wondered if we would be able to mod the rom to make it possible to use the software with better sensors, using a webcam for example. I spent HOURS playing the game while my family and I were driving around my area.

    I think the obvious con is why would you want more detail on a gameboy camera? I mean yeah it's more detail. But the software will always be extremely crunchy. This is more of a neat novelty you just wanna do for kicks rather than having any actual use case

    I do a lot of Game Boy Camera photographer. Will have to give this a go. Looking to have a custom firmware one made too, but I'm not good enough at soldering, so I'm going to have that part done for me.

    I think the original GB pics look a little more defined. Definatly the street view just seems to have more center road defined and shadowing in the bottom left

      Pretty sure that's just exposure differences. The image sensor is exactly the same so there shouldn't be any quality differences.

    • @MachoNachoProductions
      @MachoNachoProductions  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True, I tried to get the exposure about the same for each photo but it was tough to see the screen outside and make the adjustments.
