      Liquid iv is a legit amazing product. Some people swear by Nuun, but I've found Liquid iv works much better for me (and I prefer the taste). Since I started drinking it, it has eliminated a lot of the muscle pain and cramping I had due to hydration issues. Living in Colorado, it's especially an issue for me. It's on the pricey end, but every flavor is great (except strawberry, that flavor is ass... which may be what you're into, I'm not).

    3ds is so underrated. Here's a few other neat things I can recommend using if for:
    -GBA virtual console isnt exactly emulation. It's running (mostly) natively using the DS's backwards compatibility. There are a few functions that are emulated, but it's mostly running natively. You can use rom injection to play basically any GBA game, and apply a patch to remove the dark filter.
    -snes virtual console on the new 3ds run really well, and even has a pixel perfect mode
    -there is a port of the super Mario 64 pc port for 3ds that runs fantastic on new 3ds. The build I played used both the left eye and right eye pixels in 2d mode, making it have double the horizontal screen resolution of a normal 3ds game! It looks really, really good.

    I just modded my old 3ds XL and I barely touched my switch since. I even bought a little case and stylus set for it, feels like I was ten years old again. The 3ds isn’t just a retro portable it also has sooo many amazing 3ds games including the definitive 3D zeldas (Majora’s mask, ocarina of time), 3D Pokémon, and arguably the best of the animal crossing franchise, New Leaf. For someone who doesn’t have a 3ds but wants to access the library of games, get an old 2ds. It’s the cheapest out of all the editions and the design is the most comfortable to hold, plus it just looks the cutest.

    • @runic6452

      Sure, it's the cheapest of all the editions but i think i'll settle for the old 3ds. 2ds can NOT play 3ds games. Also emulating 2ds is so easy in a cp so yea (i tried to emulate 3ds on my phone and citra being the only option i have, it's so fcking trash on a cp. It just doesn't have the feel even on pc and it's super laggy on a low-end phone, which is the only thing i have). I also read that you said it's the cutest? The og ds (the non-xl one) is super cute! The sheer number of XLs that is out there overshadowed the smaller, much cuter version that is, the og 3ds. (Best thing is that it's cheaper and more portable lol.) I'll be buying one and it's like, 30 bucks cheaper than XL or LL. Wish me luck so i don't get scammed lolol

    Part of the reason I like to mod handhelds vs emulation machines is for two reason: native play and form function. Nintendo has been making handhelds for over 40 years. No one is making a better handheld than those guys. And like he said in the video, if you wanna play DS or 3DS games, no other system is gonna have the 2 screen, touch screen set up.

      I think the Steam Deck is a better hand held than anything Nintendo has in stock right now. It can emulate all of the Nintendo consoles. As for dual screen, I have a DS emulator on my phone that does it perfectly. And it looks better because my phone has a much higher resolution on an OLED display, and has a stylus. Oh, and I used to have a DS and 3DS. They were cool for the time, but it's much easier to emulate all of their old hand helds on a phone. Tablet is even better.
      I think the Steam Deck is the best hand held on the market today. Nintendo needs to step up their game, because their current users are all getting old. The only kids who still play Nintendo games are ones who parents are so into Nintendo that they buy it for their kids to get them into it to. Btw, I used to love Nintendo. Still have a N64. But they've proven themselves to be ran by awful people, and I won't be purchasing from them directly anymore. I think I'll email them some photos of me emulating Mario Wonder just to get under their skin.

    I never once turned off the 3D slider on any of my 3DSs. The loss of that screen feature is a damn tragedy, as far as I'm concerned. I recently went back to a 3DS after a while and how seamlessly the eye tracking works on the New 3DS is just frickin' magical. I've been using VR for a while and it feels so weird to just see 3D graphics on a little window without anything strapped to your face. For what It's worth I also kept the 3D on with my launch 3DS, but it was certainly more of a hassle when playing in unusual positions or places. Thanks for the video, Wulff, but I'd like to point out some mistakes:
    -In the case of the 3DS, using the regular standalone emulators is a better solution than retroarch.
    -Never emulate GBA. Just use injected GBA games, since they run natively using the official emulator used for the ambassador games. There's a software to convert your roms to that format, but you can pretty much find a pack with the most important games anywhere on the internet
    -The SNES9x emulator is fine but since you're using a New 3DS, just inject roms on the official emulator, just like the GBA.

    • @itsmesteve1081

    I just want to mention that something you can do to also play your ROMs instead of using RetroArch or even an emulator, is use Ultimate VC Injector. It turns any rom into a Virtual Console game. This will work for NES/SNES/Genesis-MD/PCE/GB/GBC/GBA/PS1/etc. (Hell you know what can run on VC lol) It won't work for N64, I'm pretty sure. Running SNES and PS1 games using this method is INSANELY better. Both of those require a New 3DS of course, but you already have one so no prob. (I haven't tested the SNES9X emulator so in reality I can't tell you if VC would be better, but I can for a fact say PS1 definitely is)

      I've used both snes9x and VC injection and the main difference is that snes9x can handle the EU / PAL games that the official emulator can't handle. So for example Terranigma will run just fine in snes9x but won't run via injection. Otherwise they're practically identical except for a few very minor edge cases where one performs a little better than the other.

    Nice video Wulff! My only feedback is that you can use VC Injectors to set up all your retro games individually so you can just click on them from the home screen without having to launch Retroarch etc. Only downsides are that it basically bundles the emulator software together with the ROM itself so it takes up a bit more memory, also the 3DS has a hard coded limit of 300 titles (even using folders doesn't matter, you're limited to no more than 300 downloaded games period which is a very strange limitation).

    • @JasperPeters
      @JasperPeters ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a strange limitation until you realise the menu has to keep some amount of data in ram at all times (as it runs in the background most of the time while gaming). The more titles on the home screen the more images need to be stored in memory, the more memory it takes up. It could support more by careful culling of icons that don't need to be in memory right now, but that would require time and effort from Nintendo developers. And as very few users are ever likely to have more than 300 legitimately purchased games on one device at one time it probably wasn't important enough for Nintendo to invest that time and effort.

    As others have pointed out, you missed one of the biggest appeals of modding 3DS: injecting ROMs (especially GBA).
    I modded my 3DS last year, but I just can't get behind the ergonomics of the clamshell form factor. So, I gave the modded 3DS to a young kid in my family that is a big Pokemon fan (3DS plays Gens 1-7).
    Recently, I've toyed around with the idea of getting a modded Wii U (I was not actively gaming during the Wii U generation). While the Switch has most of the notable Wii U games, the Wii U can natively run GameCube and Wii games and can emulate basically every other Nintendo system (besides 3DS) through VC, VC injection, or RetroArch.
    I probably won't pull the trigger though. I already have a modded Vita and RG351, but I mostly just end up thinking: "Why am I not just playing on my Switch?". For handhelds at least, I think I've decided it's nice to have just a single, primary device where most of my save data progress is, rather than juggling a bunch of different handhelds.

    When it comes to NES-GBA titles, I would HIGHLY recommend using inject tools (or existing i injects) rather than messing around with RetroArch. Simple, easy, and quick to do if you get it right (which is VERY easy.)

    • @thegreatboto
      @thegreatboto 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same. I mostly use an injection tool to install/run ROMs as Virtual Console games. Could never seem to get RetroArch to install properly to get the cores running and then to have the cores load the games. Also installed Snes9x for some SNES games that need better support for things like SuperFX. Originally modded mine to just dump my carts to SD so I didn't have to carry around all my carts or swap them when I wanted to play something else. Then some of the homebrew is really handy too, like backing up/copying game saves and offline PokeBanks.

      @@sherbftfy2287 eh I personally don't need it to be very accurate to original so in my experience I didn't need to setup cores they kinda just worked out of the box well for the GB GBA GBC because retroarch tweaks their cores and only adds I think the ones that support the 3ds system.
      I just moved cores I don't use to a folder and that made the boot up of retroarch very quick and puts a specific core on homescreen which u can boot up from and makes booting up even quicker.
      I also thought retroarch kinda sucked and complicated but got used to it and now most my roms run from it some ps1, Sega Master system, SNES, and systems mentioned above.

It's not even emulating, it uses the DS CPU to run them (which is backwards compatible with GBA). SMW works great too with VC injection (although SNES games are emulated). And there's a Mario 64 cia you can get that works perfectly (widescreen and 60 fps).

You can even play cartridges from any region by using the location emulation feature (very easy, just copy the id number from your specific region game into a certain spot on the sd card). It's worth mentioning some of the cool lesser known things you can do like modding 3DS games, an action replay style cheat system, custom home menu themes (which you can find literally thousands of on theme sites), it's even possible to stream your gameplay to a PC. And as some other comments mentioned was not talking about Virtual Console injection. It's a little more work to setup (though you can find pre-made CIAs online) but it allows you to install roms into Nintendo's official emulators and run them straight off your home menu. PS1 games can actually run much smoother than shown in the video but it takes a bit of messing with the emulator settings to get it right. Also, there's a fan made native Super Mario 64 port that runs significantly better than any N64 emulator, can even be modded with things like HD textures and 60 fps.
