  • In the third of my adventures to Plymouth and Beyond, with viewer Tim Tricker, we head into Cornwall to visit the wonderful villages of Kingsand and Cawsand. We also make for the tiny historic chapel on Rame Head. The gun emplacement mentioned, I think, was actually a radio tower during the war.

    That initial bit of sea you were looking at Richard is called Cawsand Bay, the headland is Rame head, no S. The Rame peninsula is often referred to as ' Cornwall's forgotten corner ' The old medieval Chapel atop is St. Michael's Chapel, a place of worship for many years. Good to see you in my part of Cornwall, the history of the area is immense. Regards, Andy.

    Thank you for indulging with your video of the city where my life began, and also the beautiful stannary town of Tavistock where I was brought up. As a youngster I remember my mothers frustration of the ponies coming into our garden and standing at our French window after nibbling on her plants. Sometimes the sheep would have a nibble too! That was one of the many joys of our bungalow backing on to Dartmoor. I wasn’t too long until my father erected a fence. That was the 70s, so I’m sure it will be very different now. These days I live in the fine city of Norwich, with very different scenery. Looking forward to the next instalment. Another top class production. Thank you again.

I agree driving in towns / cities is so stressful and noisy , unless you know the place well, I know I can't wait to get out into the green again. Really enjoyed this vlog Richard. The seaside looks marvelous, and you and Tim did a great job showing the sites. Your editing and music selection is absolutely brilliant! Your edits to different angles of scenery and structure were breathtaking and your music selection complemented the scenery from what you showed. You can see a lot of work went into this vlog! I would love to live in a little coastal town like Plymouth but can imagine it would be very expensive. But I too would not be thrilled on the traffic, hustle and bustle of the city centre etc. However, beautiful nonetheless. Thank you for sharing....and ....carry on!! xx

    On a different note, found out this week on the water stress area of the Arun and Rother catchment areas. Planning will not be allowing any more development unless it can be proved the development will be water neutral i.e. it won't take extra water or it can be proved water use can be offset on other sites. Natural England has information. Are we reaching the limit of what an area can support extra housing wise with natural resources? Apparently there is a major block of planning applications due to this in the Midhurst to Horsham area. Strange there is not more news on this from the media.

    In the words of a US President " I did not have gastronomic relations with that cake" although my memory may be askew in that instant. Really beautiful scenery you two manage to find. I never got to see Rame Head although I was accommodated on HMS Rame Head at one time. You must have both passed HMS Raleigh as you drove away from the ferry. I had a gruelling six weeks basic training there although I got through it OK. Dartmoor was a place for me to escape to when I was not on duty for a weekend. Drakes house at Buckland Abbey is well worth a visit. It's in the care of the National Trust. I saw my only wild adder on the moor near Princeton. The summer sun was close to setting & dont know which of us was more surprised. When you're up near the tors in the mist it's easy for a romantic mind to mistake a Dartmoor Pony for the legendary local Hell Hound which Conan Doyle penned into the Hound of the Baskervilles.

    You really must do a lot more filming in Devon and Cornwall as so many films have been made down here which are watched all over the world, like Poldark and Doc Martin. We are so used to the narrow country lanes and the places like Clovelly where they use donkeys or sledges to go up and down to their houses as it is too steep, narrow and cobbled for cars. Mount Edgcumbe, near Plymouth is nice. North Devon, Valley of the Rocks is amazing. Lorna Doone Valley on Exmoor..................too many picturesque places and history to mention here. There are beautiful beaches, like Woolacombe which is about three miles long.

    I don't suppose you noticed but the Kingsand clocktower and Institute building was severely damaged by the storm of February 2014. Waves went over the top of the building and also undermined it. It cost in the region of £600,000 to repair. At one point it was in danger of being written off which would have been a great loss of a well loved landmark. By the way, a great place to stop for an hour or two or even overnight, is Davidstow airfield near Camelford.

    Quite good, but as so often happens, presenters were screwing up their eyes, they were all talk, and there were no close ups of place names. And hardly any people in the streets! Have their houses all become second homes? The last time I was in Kingsand, the village schoolchildren were having their swimming lesson in the sea.

    You're not in that England; you're in Kernow - land of tin, granite and gold. We say;
    By the grace of the Great Mother Goddess. We are:-
    Cornish by birth
    British by accident
    English...NEVER!
