Just development limitations. Granted, a lot changed between gen 2 and gen 3 so it's not very clear why not change that while they were at it, but there you go.
@Scribbli Chheery exactly, the literally used the exact number of bits they needed for the largest move for each move, so some moves didn't even have the 1 bit necessary to add physical/special indicator.
Honestly, what boggles me is why Dark moves were special instead of physical, and ghost types were physical instead of special. Like, how does the powers of spirits have the same qualities as a punch?
Dark is named "Evil" in japanese, so maybe they thought that because it's a type where you use your brain for doing bad things, they made it special? Even thought the first "special" dark move introduced was Dark Pulse in gen 4... As for Ghost, the only ghost type move in gen 1 was Lick (excluding Night Shade), so Ghost being physical made sense for that generation. Shadow Ball was added in gen 2, and remained the only "special" ghost move until gen 4. But in the end, it all looks like poor designs to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here’s a list of Pokémon I can think of off the top of my head that benefitted from the split - Absol - Sneasel - Kingler - Crawdaunt - Sharpedo - Gengar - Blaziken - Swampert - Feraligatr - Azumarill - Salamence
The fact that Sharpedo only has half the body of a shark always made me uncomfortable. Like where's the other half of it's body? How does it swim around without its tail fin? Where does it's food go? It literally has no stomach!!
If a mouse can shoot electricity, a remora can become an octopus, bubbles can kill people, a llama can be a god, a whale is less bulky than Lucas the spider and a cat can produce infinite money, of course a shark can swim with a chopped off ass. XD
TraumaCenter13 I predict it’ll be like this Gen 4: It’s bad. Gen 5: It’s even worse. Gen 6+7: Worse than useless. Unfortunately, it wasn’t good at all. But it was still better than Bastiodon.

Sharpedo is still one of the coolest Pokémon in my book to me, Z-Destiny bond has pretty good utility in doubles and Sharpedo with Choice band is crazy strong and I really like it 😀
I frequently rewatch your videos, and I've seen all of them, the amount of quality your videos have, and the amount of improvement you've made from the beginning is astounding. I really appreciate the entertainment.
I loved using Mega Sharpedo. The one I had set up was this: Max Attack and Speed investment with Speed Boost ability, and the moves Aqua Jet to pick off weakened Pokemon and secure at least one Speed Boost, Poison Fang for Fairies and a 50% chance to Toxic a pokemon, Crunch to shatter most Pokemon and Ice Fang for coverage. When I was lucky and cleaned a few mons to get +3 speed, Mega Sharpedo was unstoppable.

Whenever I hear a Pokémon becoming known as a threat in any tier, it makes me feel happy for it, especially if it was considered bad in a previous gen.

So uh editing snafu? The VGC part for 2019 the second team doesn't have a Sharpedo Mega on it. So unless he used it at a different time... or something ya accidently picked the wrong team for that bit.
I was hoping for a Dark-type recovery move. Like biting the opponent, then draining their life essence. Drain Fangs Type: Dark PP: 10 Base Power: 85 The user bites the opponent, then sucks the life essence to the user. Heals HP with half the damage done.
You're videos are making me nostalgic. I hope Sharpedo makes its way into the dlc. Speed boosting teams were awesome, with Sharpedo and Yanmega some of my favorites to use. Late game sweeper teams with screens with Grimsnarl and Sharpedo will en so fun to use.

Considering sharpedo is based on a creature which literally can't survive ceasing to move, I'd say the developers designed it very well indeed. Though I guess they kind of missed the mark by making it "one note" rather than two-note, specifically two deep notes on a string instrument :P
Sharpedo was not in Sword and Shield in the base game, but came back in the isle of armor. And despite losing it's mega, it's still solid in RU up to this day.
InvertedReaper I mean for some of the Pokémon that made the NatDex cut in gen 8 and FSW also has done in videos explains a little bit of the Pokémon and we are also halfway through VGC2020 and Conkeldurr has been used a lot in the format and has won a regional and an International so I don’t think it’s bad to explain at least some

Sharpedo really goes to show that just ‘cuz the bigger and badder guys are getting bigger and badder toys, that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to play with them later on. He had a pretty rough start, but crept up to become better than before, despite the power creep.
What y’all are actually forgetting, the main point of this Pokémon design is to create a fusion between a torpedo missle and a shark, hence I’m okay that it has no tail, and its fins are shaped like aim crosshairs 💀
I feel like Gen 7 Sharpedo suffers from 4 move slot syndrome. I always want to run Protect, Waterfall, Earthquake, Aqua Jet, Crunch, Psychic Fangs AND Ice Fang all on the same set XD

If Mega Sharpedo got Fishious Rend I don't think it would need any other move (expect maybe Protect) to be one of the best mons of all time. I can already see it: Sharpedo gets a Speed Boost and Protects first turn. Next turn it Mega Evolves for base 105 Speed and Strong Jaw Fishious Rend. Nothing survives much longer. Also because it's a Dark type, there wouldn't be any Prankster shenanigans to worry about. Instaban to Ubers.

Technically for the attacker as they have to just focus on stats but defensive like milotic suffer as they now have to stress on both Sp. Def and def

What y’all are actually forgetting, the main point of this Pokémon design is to create a fusion between a torpedo missle and a shark, hence I’m okay that it has no tail, and its fins are shaped like aim crosshairs 💀

and you surf faster than on "lapras" :)
I used sharpedo in my playthrough just for that reason
I honestly wouldn't swim on a pokemon with rough skin.
It's fast, but you can't fish off of it.

@@houndofdoom1019 Everyone runs Primal Groudon already when it was available, so I don't think it'll be that much of a problem. That's like saying everyone needs to run Lando-T to counter a new threat but that sounds ridiculous because everyone already runs Lando-T.

If Mega Sharpedo got Fishious Rend I don't think it would need any other move (expect maybe Protect) to be one of the best mons of all time.
I can already see it: Sharpedo gets a Speed Boost and Protects first turn. Next turn it Mega Evolves for base 105 Speed and Strong Jaw Fishious Rend. Nothing survives much longer.
Also because it's a Dark type, there wouldn't be any Prankster shenanigans to worry about. Instaban to Ubers.
