    I'm glad that you are feeling much better Dale. You're far too modest, your work is superb. Painting is something I have only ever approached with trepidation and only ever achieving 'acceptable' results!
    As for old, away with you! You have more energy than most of us. Long may the Lord preserve you.
    Best wishes, Dean.

    A great primer on paint work
    Patience, preparation,and practice are needed to do good basic paint.
    Safety too. Mask up and dispose of flammable solvents and rags carefully.
    You are so right regarding the cost of professional work and most shops do not want the small jobs. Like you, I have jumped into doing my own painting, slowly learning how to get good results.
    Keep up the good work.

    Hi Dale, thankyou again for your wonderful video. You are a great inspiration and evoke much interest in your projects from many of your viewers, myself included. Did I learn a lot? Heck yeah! Thankyou for the detailed explanations and step by step procedures. My son worked as a spray painter at one time and finished his apprenticeship before leaving and trying his hand at a few different things. Now I have an insight in what he did and I can talk with him on a topic I only had minimal experience on. As a young adult, I swapped my '72 DT250 enduro for a paint job on my '62 1200 Type 1 Beetle, which I ended up doing a lot of sanding on between acrylic paint coats. It ended up having 12 volts, flared fenders and a fibreglass duck tail spoiler bootlid (rear engine cover). It was sprayed a colour called Indianapolis Orange. I only have memories of both machines when they were finally sold and let go. I have to chase up your '72 Suzuki TS250 videos to watch, as I still love my first form of mechanised transport when I was 17 back in 1975. Greetings from Sydney Australia!

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Peter, I bet you wish you had kept the DT250. The 72 TS250 will be coming in for a freshing up at some point. I am not a pro at painting, but I get it done. Just because I don't want to pay someone else to do it.

    • @peterbosch6326
      @peterbosch6326 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Strangely enough, Dale, I would prefer the Suzuki over the Yamaha. I could ride it on the road and pillion my girlfriend and school buddies, as well as go trail riding on weekends. The TS250 also had cdi ignition and autolube over the points and condenser and premix of the "hotted up" DT250. All the same, bikes these days are so much more reliable (but not as much fun). Cheers, Pete.

    It all looks great Dale, and I LOVE the red on the AT2MX!! Thanks!!
    Yeah, don't sell yourself short--> I've seen a lot of high dollar, professional jobs that don't look as good as yours. Most of them "Cut and Buff" their work, even though it's done in a booth. And man, are you right; nobody can afford what they charge! That's why our auto insurance rates are so high.
    I've done my share of car and bike paint jobs, so I know what's involved, and I purely hate doing it. Kudos to you for doing it, and again, great work!
    A couple of questions. Why was the single stage paint not glossy? I'm sure it had to be intentional, because single stage can be glossy.
    Also, how many bikes do you have. Are you creating a big collection?
    Thanks Dale!!
    Take care,
    Robert

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Robert, Thanks for all the kind words.
      Wow, I almost messed up on the silver paint. It has been at least a year since I painted the tank and rear fender of the TS250 project. I shot one coat of that summit silver and remembered that I had paint mixed for that bike. So, I was able to shoot that paint over the summit paint without issue. I don't like shiny silver, so when I had it mixed, I ask him to tone the shine down to a satin. He did a good job; I like what he did. You can go back to the tank and fender video to compare if you like. Almost boo boo. I knew if I wasn't happy with it, I could shoot clear over it.
      Yeah, I know most do cut and buff, I do too on cars. I need to do that to the one in my garage now. Hoping to get to it before the snow flies. There is some peel in the bike paint jobs, but it just doesn't worry me, and there will be no cutting and buffing on the bike parts.

    • @MrVonfelde
      @MrVonfelde ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh... ok. That is kind of what I thought; that silver paint definitely looked satin.
      Yeah, I don't think I would bother with cut and buff on the bikes either. You shot them so well, and had your chemistry and temps so dialed that I sure couldn't see any peel.
      Very nice! And love that red AT2MX. When do we get a riding video of it??

      @@montana2strokeracer I will do as you suggest Dale. I also want to rebuild the carburetor soon. Can you tell me the correct brand and kit number for this carburetor? It's the K model carburetor from what I see on the websites for parts that are still available from online sellers. This carb is in pretty good shape. Hi Dale. I really enjoy your videos. It has been perfect to watch now that I have been home from work.
    I have just bought a Yamaha Dt125 from 1974 but I have not collected it yet. I think that the seat is pretty bad on it and wonder if you know if a seat from an At1 or At2 will fit on it? The bike I have bought is for the european market and has a longer seat.
    I hope you see this and send a reply. Thanks / Robert from Sweden. 😊

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Robert, thank you for the kind words. I'm sorry I don't know much about the DT125 series, my experience stops with 1973. But that being said, you can make just about anything fit with a hacksaw and a welder. I have the opportunity to buy one of those, but I really don't know much about them. You may see one sometime, hey thanks for spending time in the shop with me.

I did use a 74 125 YZ cylinder head on my AT2MX. It did fit so could be the cylinder would. Thanks for spending time with me in the shop.

    Sir, i think your work is more than successful! Unfortunately, i also had to repaint my "Green Machine" (the original paint could no longer be saved due to an old overpaint). I used spray cans for this and it worked quite well. It was harder for me to patina the new paint because I wanted to leave the rest of the CT in its original condition.

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks, I have heard of a way to do it with spray cans. I haven't tried it as of yet though. I bought this paint over 10 years ago as I was planning this build. They guy that mixed it did a great job. I was happy with the turnout. I get that you wanted to save what patina you had, I am starting to lean that way more and more. Doing all the body work and paint is really a job I dread. Thanks for hanging out in the shop with me.
