I walked 2.5KM along a highway from town to home without opening my eyes (except once when a vehicle drove toward me while I was safely on the shoulder, but I didn't want them to see me walking with my eyes closed... awkward! Lol.). This included travelling about 800 metres of gravel road after the highway. I've also walked through old growth forest in the middle of the night, without a source of light, without moonlight, cloudy no stars. I consider it "practising to be blind", and it also helps me operate fluidly in the dark. No troubles preparing a snack without my eyes, that's quick and easy! I've also practised using my computer blind, using my keyboard to operate things, and knowing where every one of my files are located.
What is the meaning of beautiful for you? Do blind people have a concept of aesthetics? Because you seem like a very practical guy. And even if theres the touching and listening aspect of beauty, all the visual parts of beauty are not relevant for you, do you go out of your way to have things around you that sound nice or smell nice or feel nice to touch?
We seeing folks are afraid in the dark because we lose the sense of seeing well in advance. So a person could sneak up on you and touch you and make you jump. Tommy doesn't have that problem. Whether or not it is dark, he has the same perception of his surroundings. To experience a similar feeling of anxiety he would have to be in circumstances where he couldn't hear anything.
I just discovered his channel a few days ago and found alot of blind questions that I was quite curious about. I love that this exists. i wouldn't normally feel confident enough to ask a blind person these questions. Just me. Earned my subscription for more videos in the future.
People who are blind from very early childhood and who get their vision lose their minds. They can't cope with it. Too much sensory input that doesn't make sense to them.
What if he was to become a meme... and it be like "am I a meme, I don't see why" or "burglars in my house? All I see is a bunch of chicken" stuff that if you think about, especially the first, not being negative, actually being the first thing a blind person would say about being a meme, the second is a reason
I don't think he needs math, kinda requires the element of sight... Edit: Except for stuff like money or simple calculations, I think he could simply learn that verbally and by using stuff like counting on fingers.
Roxfox last year my class were doing a unit on drawing triangles. And I kept thinking, only sighted people can do this. But I had to do something so the teacher that was helping me gave me a pencil and paper. She got me to draw a measured line which I measured with a tactile ruller and I measured angles with a tactile protractor. It was awkward really, and I even got tested on it. I thaught that was crazy, asking a blind person to draw something with a pencil almost on their own.
I had a blind friend of mine who I used to play Multi-User Dungeons (MUDs) with, and she got so pissed at me for using this one particullar emoticon, ^_,^; she said every time I used it, which was a LOT back in those days, her PC would come to it, and just spout out, "carat underscore carat". I felt bad 'cause I found out I was unintentionally driving her up a proverbial wall, but at the same time, time, kind of found it humorous that the software, rather than saying something like, "anime happy face", actually spoke the characters aloud lol
I think it depends on the blind person. Some blind people can’t definitively see anything but they can still see really vague dark shadows/outlines so it could still help them somewhat see around
I've never thought about what it would be to blind (especially from birth). Your videos are wonderful. It is great to learn about the world from a totally different perspective. You have a real gift for both informing and entertaining. I have not watched a video from you that I didn't laugh out loud for.
This cracked me up. I was reminded of an experience that I had in the dormitory. One of my best friends is blind and I went to visit her in her room. The lights were off and it was evening so it was getting darker and darker. I was shy so i didn't ask her if it was ok to turn on the lights for almost two hours :)) we were sitting in the dark and just talking ( which was cool) then finally I just asked her if I could turn on the lights. We laughed at my silliness for some time :))
I literally watch you because of your voice! I mean, I've never actually had any interest in the subject of blindness. I do try to learn about disabilities but I've not really thought of blindness as a disability in the past. It's only because of your voice why I've watched so many of your videos. But now I am enlightened! I'm glad I stayed.
How does the changing of the seasons affect you? Many sighted people find their mood gets lower in the winter when there is less light, especially in the mornings. Some people with Seasonal Affective Disorder even sit in front of bright blue lights for a period each day to alleviate feelings of depression and lethargy. Do you notice any equivalent changes in mood from the drop in temperature, lack of sunlight on your skin etc.? Thanks for your great videos :)

i got in so much trouble for asking this very question in 4th grade. I thought it was a reasonable question and I think the blind guest speaker we had thought so too by the look on her face.
CM Lindgren what was the question
@@armaanp1605 I have no idea. There's no way it could be the title of the goddamnn video.
Henry Huynh shiii
@@armaanp1605 I don't think I understand what 'shiii' is.
Lmao relax
hearing stuff like this from a blind person is actually pretty eye opening
*closes eyes and attempts to obtain a snack from the kitchen
*doesnt even have the willpower to not cheat and is almost certain the hallway to the kitchen is 20 feet longer than it should be
* comments his respect for this man
I try that once in a while when I'm bored.
I quickly learn that my threshold for boredom is a lot higher than I thought it was.
Easy, just turn off the lights, that way you wont cheat

I've tripped and fallen on a forest path even when I could SEE, so I guess I could call *you* brave. ;)
I play basketball with my eyes closed 👀
Hi Tommy. How would you rate life on earth on a scale of one to ten?
Wht Rbt 11
Hum, in that case what number system do blind people use? Haha just kidding thanks for the videos!
I hope it's not binary lol
+TommyEdisonXP that made me really happy. Thank you 💜
Wait how did u read that?
What is the meaning of beautiful for you? Do blind people have a concept of aesthetics? Because you seem like a very practical guy. And even if theres the touching and listening aspect of beauty, all the visual parts of beauty are not relevant for you, do you go out of your way to have things around you that sound nice or smell nice or feel nice to touch?

Imagine giving art to a blind man...
It's the perfect gift idea. Blank sheet of copy paper
@@Automedon2 💀
You should try to explain what you look like to a police sketcher and have them draw you to see what they come up with!
They can't even draw a decent sketch from an eyewitness account.
Ryan N who you callin' "they" - I'll bust your head boi
Xerus Hedron And then you'll have a nice picture of yourself!
actually a pretty good idea
Too bad he wouldn't be able to see it
Painting as a gift to a blind person is so freakin rude... :D Oh you are blind, good, here take this picture!
How do you know if your done wiping
Solace2 he said that once, he overwipes
It's like a good composer; twelve sheets per movement (insert sly smirk here)
No, you look how muck poop there is on toilet paper
you cant just feel when there is no more?

I was today years old when i even thought about do blind people turn on lights at home
How old are you?. 10?

Question: If you had a house guest (friend) who walked around naked or semi-naked (like in their underwear), would that bother you at all?
You know Ben is always butt naked.....that's why we never see him.
good question lol
Probably annoying when he is trying to polish the coffee table and ends up polishing his friends dick. Just like that scene in Ali G
noodles6669 😂😂
I love how positive tommy is.
You should get sonoff, and an alexa. The you could just ask alexa to turn of your lights, or turn on your lights when you have company over.
Eugenio Vazquez or he could just use the light switch and save £200
HomePod way to go!
I personally prefer Google assistant
Sick idea!
Alucard there's always one salty basterd when some makes worth while comment they didn't think of. That's you mate.
So weird to think of someone living in a house completely dark. But when you're entire life is dark that's even harder to imagine.
do you prefer brail over being read to by a computer voice?
sinephase I don't think he'll see this comment...
Anastaziia Clark
lmao!
Anastaziia Clark I see what you did there.
He like audio better
Pretty sure he has programs that will tell him the comment.
are people trying to be cruel by giving you paintings as a gift? i mean seriously
“I’m going to draw a picture for my *blind friend* “
Give him a sculpture instead
Tommy what do you think of sighted people who are afraid of the dark? did you ever feel anything like that being blind?
I wonder if blind people are afraid of absolute silence. Try being in an anechoic chamber, where you hear nothing.
Hey I like this question!
CologneCarter or feel anything
carultch I would imagine blind people are scared of being lost and alone because then they are fucked.
He looks like he has a dying urge to open his eyes
xd Blanket no actually he said he likes keeping them shut, he said its tiring to keep them open since he never learned to really keep them open
Zestables yeah, and do blind people blink?
@@bluemagmaboy9842 of course, they need to have some water in their eyes anyways
I just discovered his channel a few days ago and found alot of blind questions that I was quite curious about. I love that this exists. i wouldn't normally feel confident enough to ask a blind person these questions. Just me. Earned my subscription for more videos in the future.
How can a person who has been blind their entire life understand what the hell light is? Geniuine question.
Hey blind guy, light is the opposite of that perpetual darkness
he said it, light has heat most of the time
you can tell them that light makes materials shiny and colorful and you can see them in full detail.
@@paulgoogol2652 he cant comprehend those adjectives.
Yeah idk it would be like imagining a new color
Why the hell are people giving him books and paintings? That's like giving a deaf person a CD.
Quike Lopez Im sorry to ask , but how did you read and write a reply to the comment?
Bro I’ve watched this guy for a solid 3 minutes and I already love him, he seems so genuinely great
Man I just hope this dude gets to see one day!
Negative Energy maybe in the after life - don't get triggered.
People who are blind from very early childhood and who get their vision lose their minds. They can't cope with it. Too much sensory input that doesn't make sense to them.
he's missing out on memes.
MEMES
THIS IS *IMPORTANT*
Gabriel Bailey yee memes
Nuu, he has never seen earth Chan the D:
What if he was to become a meme... and it be like "am I a meme, I don't see why" or "burglars in my house? All I see is a bunch of chicken" stuff that if you think about, especially the first, not being negative, actually being the first thing a blind person would say about being a meme, the second is a reason
there are audio memes. Like the wilhelm scream.
No he ain't. I'm sure he's been rick rolled plenty of times.
Can totally tell he’s reading from the TelePrompTer
Why did you type teleprompter like that?
That’s why he never looks at the camera.
Daniel Davidson ha... ha
He's pro at it too look at him ! Doing it with his eyes closed !
Your comment makes me feel like I understood you
My friends! TH-cam recommendations brings us together again!
Hey Tommy, I'm wondering how u learnt maths as a kid
That would suck writing symbols :(
I don't think he needs math, kinda requires the element of sight...
Edit: Except for stuff like money or simple calculations, I think he could simply learn that verbally and by using stuff like counting on fingers.
I'd be very curious to hear a few examples of math situations that you think only sighted people have to deal with, if you have any!
Roxfox I'm sorry if I gave u the wrong type of example. I hope u find it interesting anyway.
his electric bill must be super low.
ReerBaadia why, lights don't make up a lot of electricity usage
if he has his lights constantly off, then it does save him quite a bit of number.
it really doesnt lights take up hardly any of the bill
ReerBaadia untell he leaves one on
I've only just found this channel and I already love you so much omg
When he said missing on meme’s and stuff couldn’t help but let out a “Awwhhhh!!!”
How do you read those comments...
Most computers come with text-to-speech software that can allow blind people to read text on the internet by "narrating" them.
Why is it funny ? Common emojis are sideways like '':D'' so for the software to read characters that are less common as ''characters'' is expectable
He reads the comments in braille
Blake22022 someone reads them to him
I think it depends on the blind person. Some blind people can’t definitively see anything but they can still see really vague dark shadows/outlines so it could still help them somewhat see around
how do you choose your clothes? what are the factors in it?
I've never thought about what it would be to blind (especially from birth). Your videos are wonderful. It is great to learn about the world from a totally different perspective. You have a real gift for both informing and entertaining. I have not watched a video from you that I didn't laugh out loud for.
Why is he so adorable? He's spreading all types of good vibes ❤
We laughed at my silliness for some time :))
hahaha, better turn on the lights, sighted people are comin.
What about leaving a light on for security?
Matthew Mitchell I think Tommy's 12 g is good enough. jk
That's what I was thinking.
Matthew Mitchell Fuck it.
Security to whom? He wouldn't see any better with a security light and he wouldn't know if it is on or of anyway.
CologneCarter if burglars see a light is on in a house they know someone is home and are less likely to break in.
You should probably review audio books, it'd be great!
Get this guy an Alexa hooked up to his lights 😂
