That skinny white guy is I think the most honest. The fact he straight up talked about how he has been racist himself based on what he hears and how he tries to fight it but can't help it takes a lot of balls.
Robert The 3rd By that reasoning, murder suspects should be freed based solely on being so very, VERY sorry for having killed an innocent victim. Big fucking deal...he gets it that he's a racist. It takes NO balls to acknowledge being racist...the implicit message is, quite obviously to people like you, that it somehow indemnifies the person from being held accountable for ACTIONS perpetrated because of being a racist. Fuck I care whether or not someone is "woke" to being a bigoted bastard or not, if both that person and the person in denial about it perpetuate the same climate of prejudice? When he's ready to actually connect being "enlightened" to changing behavior - THEN we can talk about having "a lot of balls."
@@ThomasFromTN Well acknowledging your fault is generally the first step into stopping it. Also, what he said isn't really racist I think. He said stereotypes exist and it affects everyone and it's true. He said he would assume people ethnicity from their language. Well I guess everyone here would assume it too. If I heard someone speaks indian, I'll think they're indians, not as just being a citizen of india, but being an indian as the ethnicity/race matching it. There is a difference between seing differences in people, racism is about the discrimination or estalishment of a hierarchy based on the existence of those. One more exemple : From my name, would you be able to guess my origins ? If you do and you're right because you assumed my name is typical from any country, would it be a stereotype ? Yes, but it's not racist anyway.

Who's to say the other people weren't being honest about their opinions? Or "real". They all gave their own opinions which makes them "real" in their own right
I think it may be even tougher for white blind people not to be biased or racist. Because if they grow in a racist home, they might not even be able to question it, because they may not be able to see a diferent race person as an equal since the first impression. And I don't think blind people are able to differentiate when some situation is racist or normal, so they might not be able to help.

Alexis Smith I have no problems with white women, but I can kind of understand why some black women hate y’all. It’s stupid to generalize a whole race based on what some has done though. Black men also put white women on a pedestal so some black women get jealous of that too. Don’t pay them any kind. Just know that it comes from a place of hurt and fear. For the ones I’ve talked to anyways. Some people are just fucking hateful though. A lot of black girls bullied me in hs for “ acting white” so I can only imagine how those same girls would treat an actual white girl.
@Alexis Smith Sorry you had to go through that. I think privileged has a lot to do with it and how we view privilege in total. Just push past the negativity and respond like you've been doing
Adam Thomas How do blind people have opinions on different color skin tones? They are just repeating stuff they heard. If a deaf person was asked if Tchaikovsky is better than Beethoven, would it actually be his opinion? If a person with out a sense of smell was asked if poop smelled better than flowers, would it actually be their opinion? You can't rate a movie you haven't watched.
I met a blind guy once and I asked him what race he thought I was. He told me that it didn't matter what race I was but rather who I was as a person. Legendary.
ephemeral rose Stereotypes are very natural, whether that be race, class, gender, occupation and etc; It exists in every society known to man because it’s how its inhabitants differentiate one another. To get rid of these stereotypes, you have to change society.
Aaron *racist* stereotypes aren’t normal. that’s the point; society needs to be changed. racism and discrimination based on stereotyped assumption is *not okay.*
Discrimination shouldn't exist, however stereotypes form based on different cultures. It comes in accents, activities, food, social groups, etc. Whole yes there are bad stereotypes, there are many good ones that just reflect different ways of life. Therefore, natural stereotypes exist and are fine, while degrading stereotypes are baseless and shouldn't exist because they invite discrimination.
This reminds me of that comedic Dave Chapelle skit “Clayton Bigsby” about a blind man that spread white supremacist rhetoric and didn’t know he was black because no one ever told him.
not *every* white person is racist. my family’s face is white and the majority of my family is not racist. but i do know two of my family members that are. i believe that the white people that aren’t racist are afraid to speak out and defend black people because they don’t want to end up like them, so they sit in silence (i’m not saying that’s a good thing. i haven’t been silent and i’m not necessarily afraid that anything will happen to me). overall, not every white is racist. not every black is a criminal. not every arab is a terrorist. not every asian carries the coronavirus. this is everyone vs. racists. not white vs. black.

The statement "All white people are racist" is a racist statement by itself and show poor understanding of the term. The statement "All people are racist" would make better sense and is far more accurate to some level, as all societies of a certain level of racism towards those who are different from them. Benefiting from privilege is not racist. It's privileged for sure, yes, but not racist.
Hello. Something I have been in search for quite sometime is a connection with somebody that goes beyond vanity. It's very hard to do in this day and age. People can be, somewhat very superficial. On my quest to achieve this I have learnt a lot about human nature. It seems to me that those who are not given traits such as beauty or being wealthy are some of the nicest, kindest and generous people. While the "gorgeous" and well off seem to be the most arrogant and greedy people out there. Of course that's not to say there aren't beautiful kind people out there. I saw your profile and it intrigued me. I wanted to learn more about who you are and what type of path you would like on in life. Is it possible we can talk? I am Muslim too.

Lmao I like how the younger white people are like “yeah because everybody is” and the older guy is like “no”. An interesting but not particularly shocking difference
Only one girl said that everyone is racist lol the other one said that he'd like to think he isn't but there are of course stereotypes for everyone. But that doesn't make him racist. And that doesn't mean that he thinks he's racist. Everyone has a stereotype for a specific race whether it's good or bad. That is not what racism is. Racism would be using those stereotypes as an argument for why that race is inferior to yours or vice versa. Just saying, "I can tell by the way they talk what race they are" isn't racist. That's just based on experience. If you took someone who has never heard voices before (somehow) and played them voice recordings of 1000 black people, 1000 white people, 1000 asian people, 1000 hispanic people, etc... and then played them all mixed up, they would be able to distinguish them. Not because they're racist, but because humans are perceptive. I can't tell race through youtube or twitter comments unless someone says the N word, because what they say usually doesn't have anything to do with it. But vocal tone can distinguish a lot. Whether it's cultural or biological, we tend to have different sounding voices. I'm sure there are studies done with white people who grew up in black homes, black people who grew up in white homes, and everything in between on if their vocal tone and demeanor is different and why that is. Maybe it's cultural, i don't know. But racism is actively thinking that your race, or another race, is superior to another race. Guessing someone's race by their voice isn't racist, and saying that a specific race has a stereotype isn't racist. It's only racist if the stereotype is meant to make that race seem inferior. Saying black people are naturally taller is not racist. (That's not a real stereotype, that's just an example.) But It doesn't lower the race to say they're taller. So stereotypes aren't racist. Racist stereotypes are racist. I would say I am not racist. I do not believe I am superior or inferior because of my skin color.
You kind of went a weird way with what I said but I'll address my actual point first-"he'd like to think he isn't but..." means that he thinks he is. I don't really know how to argue this more than 'that's how the english language works' and 'common sense'. And then you went on a rant that didn't really have to do with my comment but I'll reply anyway (because I like to argue i guess)- Dude, everybody is a little bit racist. Everybody has an implicit bias, whether you like it or not. Being actively racist is different, but just because one isn't, that doesn't keep one from /being/ racist. As long as you don't act on it, and actively fight against your internalized racism, it's okay. But you should know that you are, because everybody is-like she said. Because racism isn't just "actively thinking that your race, or another race, is superior to another race" -that would imply that "separate but equal" is okay. It's thinking that one is different and can be categorized differently based on specific things about them-like their voice. So with "1000 black people, 1000 white people, 1000 asian people, 1000 hispanic people, etc... and then played them all mixed up, they would be able to distinguish them."-No...they would not. Because that's not how voices work. You're talking about nature vs nurture at this point, and if someone were able to tell them apart, it would be because they were raised in a different place, it is not something inherent to their race. You kind of made that point yourself when you said that they might have done studies or whatever, so you kind of refuted your own point and I'm not really sure so I'm still not quite positive about your opinion, but regardless, that just... isn't how race works-as the older black guy said, he didn't even know one of his friends was black and vice versa until they mentioned it. So yeah, " Guessing someone's race by their voice" /is/ racist, and "saying that a specific race has a stereotype" is also racist. This is what I mean though, you need to acknowledge it, and attempt to get over those stereotypes. Ignoring isn't the same as fixing.
I never claimed to fix racism lol you can't we all know that. But not everyone is racist. Many people would argue that you CAN'T be racist if you're oppressed. Which, frankly, I think is ridiculous, but if you believe that, it destroys the idea that everyone is racist. It's not racist to notice something different about someone. It's racist to hate them because of that. You can internalize racism, but that doesn't make it ok. If I walk around hating a race because they aren't white, but I don't say it out loud, doesn't mean it's ok because I don't act on it. If I heard someone's voice and said, "That person sounds like they have blonde hair and is 230 pounds." That's not being prejudice against people with blonde hair that weigh about 230 pounds. Guessing someones appearance is not racist or even mean. Now saying, "They sound black because they sound unintelligent" is racist af. But just to say that they sound black because that's how you imagine them is not at all racist. I used to play xbox in middle school online all the time. I met people all the time, and because we never met in person, I often found myself imagining what everyone looked like. Sometimes I didn't guess properly, sometimes I was spot on, and sometimes I never found out. But it does not make me a racist to imagine their skin color. It does not make a sexist to imagine someone's gender. Racial stereotyping is different than just imagining someone's race by their voice. If you say they sound asian because they have an asian accent, you're not being racist. Especially because asian isn't a skin color. You can be born in asia and be white or black. It's not mean to say that someone sounds uneducated, but it is racist to assume that they are black because they sound uneducated. Are you following me? Observing is not racist. Making blanketed assumptions about race that have no support is racist. I would not be offended if a blind person guessed my race by my voice. I WOULD be offended if it changed how they treated me. I am not racist lol you cannot tell me that EVERYONE is racist, because that's not true. Racism is a choice. Kids, before they are old enough to understand race, have no care in the world whether someone is the same race as them or not. I know a white family that has an adopted child of another race with a clearly different skin tone. He is like 8 years old and he still doesn't know he's adopted. My point is, racism is a learned behavior. It's a nurture, not nature. And if that's the case, then it's possible for people to not be racist. My interpretation of racism is simple. Hating another person solely because of their race, or hating an entire race of people because of their race. I don't fall under either one of those categories, and I'm assuming you don't either. So I would not consider either one of us racists. It's possible to have racist tendencies without being aware of them, I agree. I also know that subconscious racial stereotyping does not make you an active racist. But what you're saying is that it's impossible to not have these racial stereotypes, and that's wrong. You don't know me. You don't know anyone in this video lol Don't pretend to know that ALL humans are racist. You have no idea.
It's clear that you already have an idea of me based on your biased question. But you know that if I tell you i'm white, you disregard everything i'm saying because i'm a white, privileged racist. If I tell you i'm black, i'm just ignorant, and I've been brainwashed by a racist society. If i'm any other minority, it doesn't matter. My race is irrelevant, and you know it only matters to you so that you can find an excuse to say I'm racist or ill-informed. You either agree with me or you don't, it's cool. Just don't make it about race. Make it about my beliefs if you're going to disagree. The division between all these races is ridiculous. People complain about racism but then base whether someone knows what they're talking about on whether they're white or not.
She's fake woke. She's saying all white people are racist, and as such, ONLY white people are racist, and she's doing it to get brownie points. And she's also white knighting a bit. The truth is, some people are racist, but everyone is prejudiced. Everyone says or thinks prejudiced things from time to time.
Unfortunately, a lot of people don't know the actual definition of racism, so the blonde woman's perspective isn't being received well in these comments. Accountability also just tends to make others become defensive about their own participation - passive or otherwise. Even on the subject of housing, she understands that complaining without a solution or action is complicity.. which we're all guilty of in some area of life. Try taking in information without feeling personally attacked. You think the comment about assuming people are Black by hearing aggressive slang, vulgarity, and inarticulate speech didn't sting? Instead of being pissed about a stereotype, I heard the young man go on to acknowledge that way of thinking & conditioning is a problem. That's the open door to a productive exchange. ✌🏿
tinawina thank you for saying this. There is need to keep talking about the institution of racism and how it has bleed into our culture and affected us unconsciously and consciously. Fun Fact you cannot tell someone’s ethnicity by their voice • People always assume i’m white over the phone until they meet me in person and then they say “you talk like a white girl”🤨 like what to this day I don’t understand how people identify your ethnicity based upon your voice🤣
You can't get a 100% guarantee but you can have a good shot at guessing depending on where your from, over in Uruguay where I live for example, that's basically impossible since regional or slang based accents and pronounciations basically include all races here (at least in my experience), over in the USA however, not really the case
Martin Andres yeah I live in America and people love assuming that i’m something that i’m not🤣 like yesterday i was told i dont talk ghetto for a mixed girl
@@ItsMe-yb8ug lol, I've seen that when I lived there, my school had a bunch of kids that if you looked at them you'd think "That voice/way of speaking doesn't match." But that's just stereotypes we've grown up with coming through I guess.
Unfortunately, the stereotype here is pretty straightforward: people assume that if you use language as described in grammar textbooks, you're white. And then you jump to assume that if someone uses slang or incorrect forms of the language, probably they didn't have access to a good education (and probably neither their family) so, they must not be white, because this happens to other ethnic groups more often than happens to white people. They are not saying that you are white: they are saying that you are educated, therefore the chances of you being black are smaller. When blind people recognize being racist, we understand that is not JUST about skin color, it's about expression of your background, and the access to the culture that the society views as positive based purely on prejudice established years before we were born.
Im black but people always say "you talk white" because i pronounce my words properly and dont use slurs or curse or anything so if i were to speake they would think (some of them) I was a white person.
The term "proper English" in America is hilarious to me. None of us are truly speaking proper English. And it is spoken all over the globe in many different ways depending on the country. There's also a lot of things we do here that aren't "proper" by England's standards but I won't go there. Let's roll with America's definition of "proper English." I think it's prejudice and shows people's perception of black people to think if someone speaks "proper English" they most certainly can't be black. Especially when it's from the mouths of other black people.
Kid Jess Lol no, what gave you that idea. They could be attracted to someone's voice, to their body, to their face, and so on. I dated a guy who was blind and he was first interested in me because of my voice. Sorry, but that's nonsense, blind people are just like anyone else and are attracted to arbitrary things just like everyone else.

The guy in the green shirt didn’t do anything wrong. A lot of of the times people assume that way. We do it and we hate it I know, but you can’t control it. Especially if you’re blind.
That’s ridiculous. What a bs excuse to allow racism to continue. “It’s instilled and it’s not my fault” “I cant control it” wow. YES you absolutely could if you wanted to and it mattered to you how other people are treated and perceived in this world. Your belief and the excuses you make for others with your belief makes You part of the problem and not the solution.
No he meant like when he hears people talk it makes him think they are. every time you here someone you cant see, you get a picture of what they look like in your mind
yeah but it can be a bit insulting when you know someone thinks something or when they say something because of your race. Sometimes its nothing but deep down, it hurts.
Yup. They sound like those people that tell you: “don’t look at color/it’s all the same” ““WE’RE ALL HUMANS”” Like bro our world was built on racism. Yes, treating people differently bc of color is really stupid, and we are the same. But you’re fucking lying if you say we experience life the same way. Guess what? America? Still racist. And turning a blind a eye to it it’s so conniving to me. But most of them lack empathy, so they go about making excuses for their bullshit. While minimizing others --very reasonable and justifiable- pain/anger. And no, I’m not black, I’m just not so dense to pretend that racism doesn’t exist.

The girl with blonde hair was very well-spoken. Racism isn't just 'your skin is a different colour' it's also about judging people based on the culture.
There's also xenophobia which can overlap with but differ from racism. As an example, I remember hearing reactionary Americans yell hateful anti-Mexican comments at a rally. One guy in particular was leading the chant with others backing him; he was black. Many of these crowds may have little to no problem with race even though these crowds may (at least superficially) resemble racist scenes from decades past, because if you're seen as "all American", you're part of the club, you're not a foreigner. Many of these individuals grew up listening to black music, watching black athletes, and admiring black culture. Historically, Irish, Italians and Jews were once seen as foreign too, but then they became increasingly accepted as being part of the in crowd, which at that time meant being considered white. Racism and derision didn't go away but nowadays, xenophobia toward Mexicans and Muslims seem to garner a more enthusiastic rally cry in the American ethos that was once more concentrated toward black people, Jews, etc. I believe a lot of these tensions boil down to suspicions and fears of the unknown.
I suppose it depends on how you define race. But you can't deny the fact that there are differences between people with African, European or Asian roots.
@@jollemol That's ethnicity and culture. People are who they're taught to be. As Cecily Frazier said, it was created to maintain a social hierarchy. @@skeletoneg But in biology, race can be defined as "a distinct population that is isolated from other populations of a species, and consistently distinguishable from the others". Morgan Brandy It's not misspoken English. It's a dialect, with its own internal grammar and vocabulary that differ from those of Standard English, just like Cockney or any other white dialect. If it were just broken English, there would be no wrong way to speak it. And yet there are ways to mess up the grammar that will let anyone know you don't really know the dialect. Every language has dialects. Even Haitians respect their dialect enough to make it an official language used internationally. Why is that different?
I’m a teacher of the blind and a about a year ago I had to try to explain to my 2nd grade student what race and racism was. He had been learning about MLK and the civil rights movement in class and was confused. Myself and my para who is black sat down with my Chinese student to explain what race is. It was a very real and complex conversation to have. At the end we basically had to explain that some people fear what is different from themselves and that turns to hate and violence. We haven’t gotten into systemic racism with him yet, but I believe with everything going on in the world, this conversation will be ongoing. He also is in a multi-racial family with several adopted siblings, so apart from being blind, his point of view is unique. A huge part of creating change starts with educating and opening the world view and mindset of the next generation.
Ok, the guy in the green shirt has got to be one of the most honest and optimistic people I've ever seen or heard. He's great! and, just because this comment section got into debates about racism anyway, let me just throw my opinion out there. I hate that we use the term race for segmenting people at all. If someone asks me my race, I want to say human, even though I know the "correct" answer in my case would be Caucasian. Scientifically we see ourselves as a single species, Homo Sapiens, and yet we see people as being different races. it makes no sense, and I feel that the fact that we have classifications like these for ourselves makes it all the easier for racism to develop. Just look through history, whenever we separate ourselves into classes or categories, even the most superficial ones, it creates the perfect breeding grounds for prejudice and hate, despite the best (or often, because of the worst) intentions in the beginning. I'll not pretend to be perfect at seeing everyone equally all the time, but we have to try. So please don't hate me for being a straight white man who believes in God and is crazy enough to share his opinion with the youtube comment section.
Gott MitUns accomplished more than any other race in the world? You know, chinese technologies were the envy of the world for millenia. Egyptians built structures so tall that no one would build anything bigger until the industrial revolution. While Europe was in the middle of the dark ages, blaming the plague on "impure air" the Islamic caliphate was enjoying being the scientific and intillectual capitol of the world. All that being said, at the end of the day, yeah, I'm racist. I think humans are the best:) Joking aside, it is wrong to be racist, because there is no basis for it. Crime rates have a lot to do with your environment, and no one is going to do well on an IQ test if they didnt recieve a good education. Racism isnt natural, it's taught. It's something you learn. There is no difference in our dna that would justify treating each other as different races.
Gideon Jones I acknowledge those things, but 95 percent of everything that we use today, things that actually make life easier and push us further and further into the future were invented by white Europeans, that's an indisputable fact. You're wrong there is genetic differences between us, albeit small, but definitely there. Also, black children who are raised in white homes still perform poorly compared to their white counterparts. Racism is an inborn trait, children have been proven to be racist from birth. Ingroup preference is a healthy thing and it was considered so for thousands of years just up until literally like 60-100 years ago depending on what part of America you lived in (MANY countries around the world are still very racist). You've only been convinced that racism is wrong, no one TRULY thought like people do now anywhere throughout history.
Gideon Jones Those are things we could argue over all day. But the undeniable fact is that whites are being attacked more than ever now. Blacks and Mexicans are being taught by the media and the societies they live in to have extreme hate for us and being as though we are due to be the racial minority in the next 30-35 years, I think you can see how that's going to end for us. Your children and especially your grandchildren are going to go through a unimaginable hell, unless we start to speak and stand up for ourselves. This is the problem the Alt-Right sees and it's why your going to see more and more of us.
Gott MitUns You should really hide yourself in a closet for thinking like that. That man said all that was needed to be said. And if it bothers you, go find a group chat with a bunch of people who think like you and spit your hate there. And please do it knowing that it wouldn't change the fact that there are dumb, ugly, small, tall, smart, odorous, mean, nice,... people in all colour because like he said there are no races... God created us like that and you have to accept it. And if you can't I'm sorry for you but you will have to deal with it...
Gott MitUns could you explain a few things to me please? First, i guess I'd like you to just explain the whole alt-right thing, because I'll be honest, I dont know that much about it. I'd also like to understand why you personally think this way. You say whites are being attacked more than ever right now. I disagree, but I have never felt i was "under attack" for being white, and if you have I would like to understand.
cutiepie 15 He’s way too concerned about race. What‘s so terrible about being able to recognize someone‘s race by their voice/accent? He‘s obviously not a racist and being able to perceive people‘s race doesn‘t make him one either. Stereotypes are often accurate.

Wait, you can feel pain from noise if you're deaf? I mean, I guess air pressure, but I don't think the human voice would be enough to do it. Is this like the nerve between your ears and brain is disconnected or whatever's wrong with it, but you can still feel vibrations? Please explain.
Y'all talking about the white girl but the guy In the light green is so honest and 100% he doesn't want to be like this but its the way society set him up and he deals with it and is honest about it ❤
this is dumb. "aw this grown ass man is so affected by society! oh and he owns up to it! it's harmless!" those stereotypes are extremely offensive and harmful. describing black people as "aggressive"??? ?? like?? ? he "doesn't want to be like this" well then fucking don't be like that. it's simple. he's trash. and you're naive and not a critical thinker.
realistic trash you said he is not a critical thinker, but you seem to forget these people are blind. They *rely* on their hearing to differentiate people. They are trained to *hear*. Which influence the way they think because hearing is what help them differentiate one person from another. Its not just social stereotype but also their natural instinct as a blind person, who can't see. They can't just ignore voices because that's the ONLY thing they can use to recognise.
i understand what you're saying, really i do. but at the same time, just because you are "trained" to associate certain things, doesn't mean it's okay. growing up, we learn about fucked up shit and negativity but that doesn't mean we have to subscribe to it. our natural instincts are to reproduce as much as we can but we don't do it, because we are advanced beings. that being said, he should be able to break those messed up connections and see the truth for what it is. but he chooses to not do that, so that to me is racist i'm not saying ignore people (which reminds me of people that say they don't "see color"- i digress) but you can't just generalize. idc that he said black people are loud but when you say aggressive, its such a negative connotation and frankly untrue. it's exactly what the media portrays us to be and i'm sick of it. should we lower our voices just to make someone feel not threatened? every time i go to a bar, the loudest motherfuckers in there are white frat boys. if anything, they are more aggressive with their mob mentality. maybe i wasn't staying on track here but its just really frustrating for me since i personally am not aggressive, and neither are the other black people i know and neither are the other black people i communicate with daily that are strangers.
realistic trash - You can't just simply tell them to drop it up. *It's how blind people distinguish one person from another*. It's like telling us, people who can see, to close our eyes and distinguish people based on voice. Yes, you might be able to distinguish voices from people that you know, or acquaint often, but what if its a set of casual friends that you don't associate often? Will you then be able to distinguish them? For me to claim a blind person's capability of hearing is a natural instinct, is a stretch. It isn't. People start with a set of abilities, like seeing, hearing, smelling, sensing and taste, and they are, almost to equal levels, similar among all people. What comes into the equation is what if some people do not possess such ability since birth? Of course, their other abilities would be at the same level at start, but as time progresses, and once the lack of an ability, in this case vision, start to become an obstacle for their lives, they must find an alternative. And such alternative is raising the level of another ability to accommodate such disability. They must somehow train themselves to overcome it. Hence, their hearing is beyond believable. They start to be able to hear voices, differentiate sounds, and able to listen for tones. This is their replacement for the lost of vision, which could've help them distinguishing people of different colours through recognition of colours and associating colours into groups. It may be offensive of the statement to you, but it is also insensitive and unfair for you to criticise their use of hearing to differentiate you from others and have no problem with normal people categorising you based on the colour of your skin. You have to understand the difference between stereotype and one person as an individual. Yes, you, as a black person, is not loud nor is you aggressive; however, does it hold true for *all* black people? Are all white people racist? You might not be what he defined the voices as, does not means his statement is not true. The group of people that he addressed *were* loud and aggressive, or they even possess an accent; therefore, he has all rights to associate them within black "voice" stereotypes - similar to how we associate skin colours to race. People should understand that stereotypes exist because they *are, or were* true. Just because they, people that do not assert these stereotypes, feel that these stereotypes are not appropriate or true, to themselves, does not means these stereotypes are not legitimate to the extent of others.
So you almost got mad that she was racist until she said towards wich group she was racist... and all of a sudden you didn't get mad... I think you might be racist....
Tycho Meertens No that’s not what she meant. She’s not actually racist. She assumes she’s indirectly racist just for being part of a white privileged culture that condones racism.
Ur right. And what ive learned, is that black people use the race card extremely fast, therefore, we can never get away from racism, because they wont let us. Now of course not all black people, we just mean the majority
Are we going pretend like a lot of black Americans don’t talk in African-American vernacular? That’s what the white guy was referring to... even black people can differentiate other black people usually from the way they talk. Obviously this doesn’t apply to EVERY black person, but a lot of them do have that accent, and a lot of black families swear a lot too. They’re raised in households that don’t care about censoring themselves, so it’s natural for them to swear.
@@TheDevourerOfUniverses now thats just a stereotype. cmon man you can do better. (unless your joking,i cant tell if your sarcastic or not,sry if you were joking)
I wonder if she thinks that the africans who came over after slavery are racist towards blacks aswell. Maybe the descendants of the slaves are racist because they take advantage of what their ancestors went through just by living everyday. Her logic is so flawed. Where does she even get this BS argument from she can't even read??
If everyone was blind, we would only see through each others hearts and their personalities. I think blind people see others for who they really are, they see their true colors.
As long as you do not use your benefits to work against those inequalities you are using the racist system for your own benefit. Plus the western society is openly racist, just look at how black people are targeted when it comes to the police. Being ignorant on the subject is no excuse.
I once stayed at a university during the same time as a summer program for blind students and one had a confederate flag beanie and shirt. So I guess that moment answered the question for me
The reason she does is because she is tapping into the reality that racism is a social construct that influences us not just through our senses (sight, hearing, etc), but also through the systems we create in our world (labor, education, healthcare, justice/legal and really the list goes on). And when we closely examine the history and demographic stats of systems in America, we see that white people have (mostly unintentionally, sometimes intentionally) benefited more than other races, especially black americans. My definition of racism, inspired by the Anti-Racist Alliance (www.antiracistalliance.com/ARA-training.html), is that racism is racial prejudice AND power. Prejudice, yes. AND power. The woman in the blue shirt is simply tapping into what most of the other folks are not, the power side of it. It is in fact that lack of access to power that continues to create the divide we see in our society when it comes to race, something humans created and now need to spend many more years to undo. I've found that having dialogue is a good place to start, but taking action and learning more is even better! Would love to hear more thoughts.
He said he associated aggressive, vulgar, slang terms with black people. Even though he recognizes those stereotypes are wrong and harmful, he still thinks like that because of the society he lives in. How is that not brainwashed?
I think it’s kinda selfish that some people say “all white people are racist” it’s such a bad stereotype. We need to stop that. I’m not dissing the woman who says that but I think we need to educate people on all stereotypes.
You’re not hearing what she’s saying. She’s super insightful and articulate, yet many are misinterpreting her because of her honesty. She’s saying that ALL white people benefit from racism, which is true. Racism follows by benefiting from the institutional structures placed hundreds of years ago and continue to this day.
Nah man, I was talking about the horrible stereotypes out there. They clipped in only that part, but I had followed it by saying how in reality, it doesn't matter what race somebody speaking that way is, we should stereotype that kind of language to people we don't want to be around, not by race. Before people roast us, they should remember that it was clipped together to form a story as a whole, not necessarily the sole viewpoints of individual people. Like, not everything I think is portrayed here, only a small fraction. Still a good video, but seriously, to make assumptions off a single sentence out of context isn't anyway to process anything.
"I think I'm a racist because I think every white person is racist." yeah, yeah, that... that kinda makes you racist yeah. I take a page out of the book of avenue q, though. 'Everyone's a little bit racist, it's true'

Capitalism and western civilization was built on slavery. Right. How about every other civilization? Arab, asian etc. Everyone had slaves. But for some reason Europeans stopped it, did you notice?
I always found this to be peculiar. Race isn't merely the colour of one's skin, so why would it be that not being able to see people skin colour would detract from perceiving race? That being said, racism is pattern recognition. It is the use of your senses. Telling blind people to stop using the senses they do have is cruel. Making them feel guilty for perceiving race with different senses is effed up.
Racism is the belief that one/some races are inherently better than others. No one is telling blind people to not perceive race, that is not what racism is. The issue is thinking a race is superior or inferior to others.
While I read I hoped your story would end up being entirely a digression into Pokémon but it was good explanation of prejudice. Maybe the next time a guy yells to you from a sketchy hotel your prejudice will tell you he just wants to talk about Pokémon but you end up talking about drugs >:D I think greys first point, that race isn’t just determined by skin, is fine, it does feel completely unreal seeing people here who think that it’s ok to determine race only based on colors. And yeah, racism, is believing in one race being superior or inferior to another. Whether or not you are blind there is an opportunity to say that you cant discriminate between similarly attributed people; entirely avoiding the controversy shame and guilt the rest of us enjoy. Is it senseless not to participate?

Discrimination shouldn't exist, however stereotypes form based on different cultures.
And then you went on a rant that didn't really have to do with my comment but I'll reply anyway (because I like to argue i guess)-
Dude, everybody is a little bit racist.
Are you white?
Damn white girl in blue is woke
That's what I was thinking
woke?
define being “woke” please...
Lisana Rhodea how exactly?
Shes trying to be lmfao
no one arguing you, you just dropped this little bomb here and it hasn't been hounded to death with discourse. Gods bless
tinawina thank you for saying this. There is need to keep talking about the institution of racism and how it has bleed into our culture and affected us unconsciously and consciously. Racism is always mean to harm others and if we do not talk about it, claim it, or acknowledge it, we won’t be able to deconstruct it ❤️✌🏽
But that’s not the definition of racism the definition of racism has always been believing one race is superior or others are inferior
@@TheDarkendstar Systematic racism then. The point is everyone knows exactly what she's referring to but it's easier to stay surface level and go on defense or argue semantics so that everything but the real issue gets discussed.
tinawina It’s not semantics racism has a charge held within it for a reason when you change its definition it’s doesn’t lose its connotation of course people are upset when you call them that you have changed the word without changing anything else about it.
Fun Fact you cannot tell someone’s ethnicity by their voice
•
People always assume i’m white over the phone until they meet me in person and then they say “you talk like a white girl”🤨 like what to this day I don’t understand how people identify your ethnicity based upon your voice🤣
But, fun fact, you can assume what ethnicity someone is by their tone, choice of words, etc.
Im black but people always say "you talk white" because i pronounce my words properly and dont use slurs or curse or anything so if i were to speake they would think (some of them) I was a white person.
You are not black. You may have black skin but that doesn't define you therefore you can talk how you want.
Same omg
I mean why can't we be black and and talk how we want. Rather it be proper or with a slang
And thoes who say that u sound white i think they are Rassist!
They are more honest then non-blind people
*_-Tobe-_* ! Sighted people you mean

You haven’t met enough people. People of all types have all kinds of personalities. They just happened to have found a good group.
The comments illustrate that perfectly
oh jheez than*
Being blind you could only be attracted to someone according to their actions/morals right? Which I think is cool.
Kid Jess
Lol no, what gave you that idea. They could be attracted to someone's voice, to their body, to their face, and so on. I dated a guy who was blind and he was first interested in me because of my voice. Sorry, but that's nonsense, blind people are just like anyone else and are attracted to arbitrary things just like everyone else.
Only if you’re ugly AF
even if you aren't blind, I feel you should only judge a person by their personality. no matter how 'cute' or 'ugly', everyone should be judged by personality.
Haha, what gave you that idea. Blind people can't see your face or your body xD
Rianne Animations and Other Stuff and that's how I am I was taught there is no color and it doesn't matter how u look I go by a person personality and that's it
Imagine that some blind people don’t even know what they look like themselves
Edit: I’m not stupid btw lmao, I said some because there are people born blind, and people who became blind due to a sickness or something
Yes my cousin got in accident when he was just a child although he didn’t become blind he did become deaf and mute so he can’t hear or talk at all that’s why I’m trying to learn sign language for him.
Diana Cazares That’s so good of you to do, also must be very hard for him to adapt everyday to certain things :/ much love ❤️
Are you stupid?
The guy in the green shirt didn’t do anything wrong. A lot of of the times people assume that way. We do it and we hate it I know, but you can’t control it. Especially if you’re blind.
Can't control what? Your actions and beliefs? pish posh
Yeah and like lots of black ppl talk certain way. It's not bad, it's just common and there is nothing wrong with it!
No he meant like when he hears people talk it makes him think they are. every time you here someone you cant see, you get a picture of what they look like in your mind
yeah but it can be a bit insulting when you know someone thinks something or when they say something because of your race. Sometimes its nothing but deep down, it hurts.
The racists really out themselves in these comments 😂😂
Never scroll down, man. Never scroll down
Lila kudo he means you bitch.
Daylonna Brantley the girl in the video called while people racist
Yup. They sound like those people that tell you: “don’t look at color/it’s all the same”
““WE’RE ALL HUMANS””
Like bro our world was built on racism.

"I believe there is racism within the blind community because there is racism everywhere. And the blind community is no exception."
That is such a true statement. Nobody is the exception when it comes to racism. It doesn't matter if you're blind, deaf, or whatever.
Mr. C.C. Jesus Christ you're impaired
OR YOU COULD JUST NOT BE RACIST NOT THAT HARD
Or black
also the person that said all white people are racist
too bad the person who said it is a fucking moronic bitch.
The girl with blonde hair was very well-spoken. Racism isn't just 'your skin is a different colour' it's also about judging people based on the culture.
That is literally what prejudice is 🙄
It isn't really racism.. it's called prejudice. Racism is hate. Prejudice is not understanding.. sterotyping. Etc.
So000... you assume i'm going to eat food just because i'm a human?, RACIST!
No, it's more about benefiting from racism. Her point was if you benefit from racism you are racist.
This is why race is a social construct.
YES YES YES YES
Natasha Hart it is a social construct. I was a cultural anthropology major and race is strictly based off putting people in a social hierarchy
I suppose it depends on how you define race. But you can't deny the fact that there are differences between people with African, European or Asian roots.
@@jollemol That's ethnicity and culture. People are who they're taught to be. As Cecily Frazier said, it was created to maintain a social hierarchy. When you say "race doesn't exist, and it's a social construct," out of context, people will get confused with "racism doesn't exist," racism does exist, race, however, doesn't.
@@skeletoneg But in biology, race can be defined as "a distinct population that is isolated from other populations of a species, and consistently distinguishable from the others". (It's an informal term that refers to informal ranks in taxonomy so there is no clean-cut definition like species for example.) Are you denying that within the human species, no such populations exist?
the guy in the green shirt doesn't seem like he's racist at all like when he said about the slang and it might be a black person I agreed one hundred percent i am black and it's true I mean you can make an inference of someone's race from their speech
Same! I grow up in an area mainly populated by white people, but because of who I live with and my family I don’t necessarily speak like everyone in my community. I have a blind friend and she could tell by my voice and my speech patterns that I wasn’t completely white.
Z .L I feel like what he said makes it seem like black people are aggressive and Loud but that doesn’t apply to all people. Some black people don’t use slang or talk aggressively
Hey Miaa no hes just giving an example. like if you were on a street or in a ghetto ass school.
Hey Miaa me lol

I think humans are the best:)
Joking aside, it is wrong to be racist, because there is no basis for it.
I disagree, but I have never felt i was "under attack" for being white, and if you have I would like to understand.

this is dumb.
They can't just ignore voices because that's the ONLY thing they can use to recognise.
i understand what you're saying, really i do. but at the same time, just because you are "trained" to associate certain things, doesn't mean it's okay. growing up, we learn about fucked up shit and negativity but that doesn't mean we have to subscribe to it. our natural instincts are to reproduce as much as we can but we don't do it, because we are advanced beings. that being said, he should be able to break those messed up connections and see the truth for what it is. but he chooses to not do that, so that to me is racist
i'm not saying ignore people (which reminds me of people that say they don't "see color"- i digress) but you can't just generalize. idc that he said black people are loud but when you say aggressive, its such a negative connotation and frankly untrue. it's exactly what the media portrays us to be and i'm sick of it. should we lower our voices just to make someone feel not threatened? every time i go to a bar, the loudest motherfuckers in there are white frat boys. if anything, they are more aggressive with their mob mentality. maybe i wasn't staying on track here but its just really frustrating for me since i personally am not aggressive, and neither are the other black people i know and neither are the other black people i communicate with daily that are strangers.
realistic trash - You can't just simply tell them to drop it up.
Just because they, people that do not assert these stereotypes, feel that these stereotypes are not appropriate or true, to themselves, does not means these stereotypes are not legitimate to the extent of others.
realistic trash you seem pretty aggressive... are you black by any chance?

Alex Ramirez True but I doubt he remembers what color shirt he wore that day

Torie Richardson his wife can 👌😊
Torie Richardson I kinda look like him!😉 lol
Get that famous lawyer on here. I think his name is Matthew Murdock or something like that.
Tryhardblackguy yeah man he's so blind

An absolute blast, thanks for asking...

@@tychomeertens4085 omg are you slow dude
Tycho Meertens No that’s not what she meant. She’s not actually racist. She assumes she’s indirectly racist just for being part of a white privileged culture that condones racism.

Cringe
I would marry that green shirt guy.
beaujrb gbs hes already married sorry to tell you
Riley Dougherty are you serious, I’m about to ruin that relationship real quick...

Ur right. And what ive learned, is that black people use the race card extremely fast, therefore, we can never get away from racism, because they wont let us. Now of course not all black people, we just mean the majority
It does if you can't hear or see it lol
i have major respect for the guy in green. like go you!!

Major respect for thinking all black people are aggressive and can't speak English?? Hm okay.

I love how the lady explains color as a "different complexion" . yesssss lady, that's all it is.
Can you do "blind people guess race of strangers"
Mickeyla McConnel that’s literally just teasing the blind person.. not cool and not a good video idea.

That's racist
Guess you can't get mad at them if they say "I don't see color"😂
The black guy is the only one that thinks with logic.
He doesn't seem blind, through the shades it looks like he's reading a cue card. ? Maybe? IDK
He's the only one that had his vision most of his life, the others were born with blindness. If that helps.
Obviously you'd think that.
That's perspective, he wasn't blind
vanzy01 But what about the guy in the green shirt? What was he wrong about? I agree with the rest of your opinion.

I don’t think the girl in the blue shirt know what racism is..
1990 • she don’t even know what the human race looks like but shes racist 😂
1990 • She doesn't know what capitalism is either.
I wonder if she thinks that the africans who came over after slavery are racist towards blacks aswell. Maybe the descendants of the slaves are racist because they take advantage of what their ancestors went through just by living everyday. Her logic is so flawed. Where does she even get this BS argument from she can't even read??
1990 • Well the first slave owner was black but what do I know?
black people owned slaves, but did they create Jim Crow laws too 🤔
If everyone was blind, we would only see through each others hearts and their personalities. I think blind people see others for who they really are, they see their true colors.
Not the woman in the blue shirt. She's obsessed with race.
If everyone was blind then everything would be in ruin
Pixel Fyxe XD (Coming from a legally blind guy who could duel Toph in blind jokes.)

just because someone benefits from past mistakes of fair skinned people, doesn't mean they themselves think of another race as less.
depends.
Izi Smith actually yes
As long as you do not use your benefits to work against those inequalities you are using the racist system for your own benefit. Plus the western society is openly racist, just look at how black people are targeted when it comes to the police. Being ignorant on the subject is no excuse.
Calling the western society "openly racist" is a blanket statement.

The green guy looks like Grant Gustin the actor of the Flash.
I once stayed at a university during the same time as a summer program for blind students and one had a confederate flag beanie and shirt. So I guess that moment answered the question for me
"You're black? I thought u were blind man"
The girl in the blue shirt doesn't know what racism is
she does actually
Explain
Yes she does, you don't
On the contrary, I would argue that she has a very good grasp of what racism is.
The button up green guy is how every normal non-brainwashed person thinks.
what do u even mean by that?
Non-brainwashed?
He said he associated aggressive, vulgar, slang terms with black people. Even though he recognizes those stereotypes are wrong and harmful, he still thinks like that because of the society he lives in. How is that not brainwashed?
TexBoy what's normal? who decides??
Z. R. a racist and a couple hundred people liked that because that is normal to them lol
I think it’s kinda selfish that some people say “all white people are racist” it’s such a bad stereotype. We need to stop that. I’m not dissing the woman who says that but I think we need to educate people on all stereotypes.
Yeah but pretty much everyone hates you so...
anonymous stalker what do u mean? 😂

{ •••Aleena••• } yep
Allurminate hes right.

They don’t see color 😬
YES! Thank you
LMAO That was deep and true.
I think it's very interesting that they are more honest about racism than some people that can see.
Grey Horizon No one told them not to use their senses though....
Maybe the next time a guy yells to you from a sketchy hotel your prejudice will tell you he just wants to talk about Pokémon but you end up talking about drugs >:D
I think greys first point, that race isn’t just determined by skin, is fine, it does feel completely unreal seeing people here who think that it’s ok to determine race only based on colors. And yeah, racism, is believing in one race being superior or inferior to another. Whether or not you are blind there is an opportunity to say that you cant discriminate between similarly attributed people; entirely avoiding the controversy shame and guilt the rest of us enjoy. Is it senseless not to participate?
I like that story. Great, thoughtful comment.
"Racism is pattern recognition"? No, it's really not. It's irrational.
