Rebel groups take Myanmar border town: Hundreds of refugees escape to Thailand

- Rebel groups in Myanmar say they've taken the town of Myawaddy, on the border with Thailand.
It's an important trading hub - more than 1 billion dollars’ worth of goods pass through it every year.
This is the latest setback for the military junta, which has lost control of dozens of towns since October.
Al Jazeera’s Tony Cheng reports from the Thai-Myanmar border.

In my humble opinion, civilians fleeing the civil war in Myanmar should be able to move over to Australia & New Zealand in the Asia-Pacific region.. In fact, around 90% of Australia/New Zealand are completely empty.
Moreover, the vast majority of the population in those countries, tens of millions of White Europeans are from all over Europe brought in over to the Asai-Pacific region.
In my humble opinion, the innocent civilians fleeing the civil war in Myanmar should be able to relocate over to the vast ginormous bountiful resourceful Australia and New Zealand in the Asia-Pacific region.
Moreover, the vast majority of the population in those countries, tens of millions of Christian Europeans from all over Europe brought in over to the Asia-Pacific region.
In fact, around 90% of Australia and New Zealand are completely empty today..

Using the word rebel reflects "a poor knowledge on the history of Myanmar". Myanmar consists of many ethnic groups and each group have their own army. Unlike most countries around the world, the Myanmar (Burmese) military never has a full control on every parts of the country. Each area in Myanmar is controlled by different ethnic armed groups, and different armed group made different deals with the Myanmar military to coexist. Some armed groups allowed the Myanmar military to have their bases inside their territories, some don't allow, etc. Myanmar is still in the process of building a nation (in the modern context), no one can rebel anyone since there has never been a consensus for the matter of "who actually own the country".

I would disagree, Karen people and kawthooleiw aren’t the only ethnic group. this will only cause war with other groups such as Karenni, Poe karen, chin, Kachin and etc will not like the idea. Democracy is a much better option then just dividing lands between the groups. plus KNU and kawthoolei are well known to betray their own people and sell info to the Burmese.

What do you mean it's not clear who's controlling the city, you said the military forces had flee, and saying the armed men in the city could be military's alliance.
Even if junta is defeated, there might be further conflicts between factions
there wont be, if they're fair and equal. We just want our land that was stolen from us by force. lots of the lands in Myanmar belonged to the Karen in the first place until ww2 came. That had nth to do with us was brought upon us. We want to be peaceful people and safe from violent wars, and become Independent. We do not have the same mother tongue as the Burmese and speak a whole different language from them. We had to learn their language just to communicate. All the Karen people ask is a small amount, they're not asking for everything back.

KNU is Not a rebel group, KNU is Karen State government. KTLA, KNLA, DKBA, KNDO, KNA, is military branch their job is to defend Karen State. Karen people self determination self government self military we have everything. We will rebuild Kawthoolei, we will elect our own president, because we have people, there is 1.6 trillion so we deserve independence of Karen State. Are we clear

Simply almost no way Myanmar Military can take it back. Myawaddy is surround by mountain range on the Myanmar side, only 2 highway route to transport troops via land which can easy blocked and ambush.
Only possible mobilize is deploy from AIr and using Aerial Attack, which may not easy due to very close border with Thailand. Half of Myawaddy city itself are almost engulf by Thai borders.

I don't think so . Those Myanmar citizens who fled their border town to Thailand Most of them work in Thailand and cross border regularly . They will go back to their home after the situation in Myawaddy stable which is very soon.

There's hardly any Muslim, Hindu or Christian there up until Anglo British Colonialism. I suppose it's fair to say that many of these tragedies that nation facing today, such as racial, ethnic and religious conflicts, started with Colonialism.
Here in Singapore, a tiny island with 6 million souls lives like sardines in a can, elsewhere in nearby vast bountiful Australia which is ten thousand times 10,000 bigger with a mere 27 million inhabitants.. A similar situation in tiny and packed Japan, which is running out of space and land. Do you know that their living room and bedroom are the same place, and that most Japanese people sleep in their living room?
Here's the one solution I see. Why don't Burma's Rohingya Muslim, Hindu & Christian population, if they wish, move to a place like Anglo Colonized Australia/New Zealand in the Asia-Pacific region? After all, these are Asia-Pacific lands looted from Native Asians-Pacific islanders.
