    Barry Gray's main title for "Doppelganger" is one of the most outstanding pieces of theme music ever written for a film. He knew how to write for full orchestras, and he successfully incorporated electronic instruments into his scores.

    The music that starts to play when Jason sees his opposite self in the mirror and rushes towards it is just amazing. We’re looking at a man who was driven all his life by the desperation for answers, and now, right at the end, he finally thinks he sees them on the other side of the glass...
    One hell of a movie, and I feel privileged to be one of the few that truly appreciate it

      @@lilybond6485 I love going back to classics like this. I’m 23 now but I don’t think a sci-fi can get any better than the likes of this. I really do wish I’d been born a few decades earlier

      @jack bassindale: I understand.i I lived through the 60s but wish so much that I could have been older - wish I could have been in my early 20s - taking a trip to London and staying there for a couple of months/years. It was such a great decade for everything - movies - music - just everything. Wish I had a time machine and could go back for a while. One can dream.

    Many thanks for this. In hindsight a silly movie with actors doing their collective best with what was handed to them...and a superb film score. But after my first viewing it DID prompt me to follow up on its story premise, so allow me to commend some outside reading: Arthur C. Clarke's short story "Technical Error," Martin Gardner's final edition of The Ambidextrous Universe, and Neil F. Comins' What If the Earth Had Two Moons?, a sort-of sequel to his What If the Moon Didn't Exist? No spoilers intended; view the film first in one sitting and you'll appreciate the supplemental reading all the more.

      I love this movie, but it really needs updating. Certain special effects are really dated looking like the eyeball film camera. The scene where the woman is struck by the man is unnecessary to the plot and very misogynistic. The scene where the crew arbitrarily crashes in Mongolia is stupid and contrived. The scene could be re written as the lander is shot down by an anti aircraft missile by an over zealous air defense force.@@gastonbouchard9330

    • @estimator8670
      @estimator8670 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Back when this movie was made, the technology for movie special effects was in its infancy and was a very limiting factor in what could be shown on the screen. Today with computer generated images, almost anything that can be imagined can be depicted on the screen. In this movie the Negative Earth is shown as more or less to be a clone of Positive Earth with a few minor differences. Can you imagine what Negative Earth could be depicted as with todays technology? How about an Anti Earth where the people walk and talk backwards. Or maybe an Earth where dinosaurs never went extinct and have a technology and civilization equal to Homo Sapiens.
