EXCELLENT, thanks! Just a few months ago I was thinking about this movie, for the first time in many years. I saw it when it was initially released in the theater. I was a kid, then! As I started to watch this clip I thought about the ending of the movie, which struck me when I first saw it way back then - and then Mr. Landis says, “…it has an extraordinary ending, which I won’t ruin for you…”
OK, I won’t ruin it either.

Good review and a great movie. Other great actors were Ed Bishop (with his original dark-hair in the film) and George Sewell shown here. Gerry ('Jerry') & Silvia Anderson would later reuse and develop from 'Doppelgänger' the TV series 'UFO' (1970), so many actors, props and the Neo Noir (New 'Black') psychological themes would continue, although they had also explored these themes previously in 'Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons' (1967). Ed Bishop would change to wearing a light grey wig and become 'Commander Straker,' in charge of the Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation, abbreviated to S.H.A.D.O. and pronounced as an acronym 'Shadow'. George Sewell would become Colonel Alec Freeman plus another actors who's name escapes me. Lynn Loring was also Roy Thinnes's wife in real life too. Kind regards from Australia.

@@AlanBondFilms It should be an enjoyable view for you, especially if you like UFO. It is an oddball concept, less a science fiction story and more like a grim fairy tale. The actors are good and provide a surprising amount of pathos, especially at the end. I read once in an interview with Sylvia Anderson that the studio made them delete quite a few scenes from the final cut that would have made it a better picture. I guess those scenes are all lost to time...

This one was a staple of afternoon movie / late-show type programs back in the 70s - 80s.
Not a great flick, but like JL says, a definite curio.
Had the misfortune of getting caught up in the wake of 2001: Space Odyssey and Planet of the Apes.
I think I caught it on our local afternoon movie back in the mid-70s.
Of course, Derek Meddings model and effects work was impressive, But in some fundamental ways the script didn't deliver. And beware: PLOT HOLES (like, how come they didn't detect radio signals from the mirror planet..?!)
But there's an oddball strangeness / weirdness that kinda - sorta carries the flick through. Although it basically comes down to a BIG EXPLOSION at climax.
Think it was screened for Universal executives, but left them kind of cold. They sat on it for almost a year...before finally giving it a release.
Always good to see Roy Thinnes. especially post Invaders. Although he's nobody's idea of a movie star. Always a competent, decent, professional actor.
Back then, on the business side, it was all about getting a sale to American television.
    That's where the gravy was.
And you got to love Loni von Friedl. VA-VOOM!!!!

The idea of a counter-Earth on the other side of the Sun dates back at least 2400 years, it's one of those dumb ideas people unreservedly love. The Planet X idea that was being bandied about over a century ago was pronounced like the letter X, too - there were only 8 known planets at the time.
