- I went to an amazing Japanese thrift store where I bought a PS1 console in good condition and some video games. There is a great hard off shop located about 10 minutes from Tachikawa station in Tokyo. Those Japanese thrift stores are awesome if you are looking to collect or resell and they usually have decent prices. In this video, I take a look at some Japanese consoles, video games, game boys, toys and controllers.

Japan is video game paradise I mean decades and decades and lifetimes of video games
Yes, it's crazy! You can literally spend days looking for video games here
just want to ask if there are any gaming stores located in Osaka Japan.
Most of what I See is located in Tokyo. But I am not likely to go to Tokyo this year. Stuck with Osaka and Kobe to lessen traveller fatigue
Go to work 😂
And it seems that Japanese people take such good care of their consoles and games too, they're always in mint condition compared with what I see in my country.
No shit Sherlock
I love how organized everything is in Japanese thrift stores. If that was Canada it would be all over the place with parts missing.
Yes, I'm always so amazed how organized most of Hard off stores are :)
Same here in the USA there very disorganized
@@GamingforNostalgiaForFun Nah man, everything is unorganized in USA. Corrupt....
@@GamingforNostalgiaForFunand fat
@@MattFindsHard off stores? 🤔
I really love how they look after these things so well. I would feel like buying the whole store
I 100% agree with you. Everything is very well take cared of in Japan.
Strange no sega consoles
@@jrlangdon89there is sega consoles in the store. I guess he just wasnt after one of them lol
@@jrlangdon89 They didn't have in this Hard Off, but you can find some in others :)
I felt the same. 😅
Holy crap... so many things in extremely good condition and dirt cheap too. It's insane. Here in the US at least where I live there's nothing like this at all. Any of the small retro shops will charge a LOT more for any games in good condition, and if it includes a good case and manual, don't even ask, you can't afford it. If I ever go to Japan I will definitely blow so much money on retro games and maybe even some consoles. No idea how I will bring them back with me.
Hahaha yeah for sure. You have all the original games and consoles here for cheap prices. Especially with the Japanese yen being weak, it's even cheaper than usual. Just come to Japan and buy everything :)
Thts because japanese don't play videogames nearly as much as Americans do
@@MattFinds were in Japan is this at?
@@MattFinds I definitely would like to go n see
@@GamingforNostalgiaForFun It's a store called ''Hard Off''. They have many scattered around Japan.

Thanks to reply, it's a great video, thanks for posting this "heaven" :)
I miss that theme song in hard off, thnx to this video best memories in japan. Da best store ever.
Thanks a lot :) It's definitely the best chain store in Japan :) and the song is iconic.
I wish they had stores like this in the US.
Same :) and in Europe too :)
It will get stolen 😅
Be aware, that some of old retro games & cartidges, are actualy new, and meant to look like they are old
Yeah you're 100% right!
Japan here I come oh boy !!!
You're gonna love it :)
Wow all is original... This is heaven
Yes it is :)
Man. What an amazing sight
It is :) I hope you can go there someday :)
Great vid! It's pretty cool to see so many retro consoles in great condition. One question I've been wondering is if you're able to test the console at the store before committing to buying it. Interested in picking up a PS3 in Japan but I know some of the earlier models have manufacturing defects.
That's a good question. Usually, they don't allow people to test the console at the store, but you never know. You can always ask the staff and maybe one of them will be nice enough to do it :)
everything is so neat and clean. must be nice living in a country that hasnt been "culturally enriched".
Yes, everything is so well kept there. I had a great time living there :)
Whoa. This is heaven paradise for gamers like me. ❤
I hope you can go there someday :)
Wow this place is like a dream
It's absolutely amazing :)

It was amazing :)! Definitely one of my top 3 stores to visit in Japan.
amazing collection.
Yes it was amazing :)
I would be in that store all day 😅
Hahaha you'd love it :)
Just started collecting Japanese PS1 games, so much to choose from…
Me too 😂 yep
Prices in the U.S. are four times as much.
Yes for sure. And sometimes even more lol
I don't know if we have that in our country but love to visit that kind of store. I like going to a gaming store.
For the price, you can only find these types of stores in Japan :)
Ok i will buy the shop. Too much interesting games.
Hahaha for sure!
sweet deal for that playstation 1!! love it!
It was def a sweet deal :) So cheap!
I live in Japan and I like to visit new hard off, some are awesome and some are just empty, the prices are also very different sometimes for the same consoles. They don’t have very rare consoles nowadays ( like hi Navi Saturn or Panasonic GameCube), so that is something to keep in mind
Yeah you're right. In order to find the rare consoles, you need to go to Hard Off outside of the city. However, you can find a lot more gems in Japan than in Europe.
thank you. No Net Yaroze PS1 consoles?
@@xman777b nope
I'd be like a kid in a candy store. I love this
It was amazing to be there :)
Dream store for gamers 😍😍😍❤
hahaha yes :)
I just bought a PS4 GranTourism version,ps3 and ps2 with lots of games for only 300$ so cheap here and they are in very good condition!!
Wow that's a pretty good deal :)

Great game indeed :)
Love it❤
Paradise man :)
Love this kind of videos tanks!!
Thanks a bunch mate! :)
The Super Famicon version of Street fighter use to work well in the US Super Nintendo system. That's how we use to play that game in the 90s.
Okay I see :) Thanks for the info.
I love there

Parasite eve 2. Good old games. This series deserve a remaster for pc

Japanese people are so lucky :)
I need to Sleep & Wake up there 🤩
Hahaha I hope your wish gets granted :)
more of this please
I will try :)
7:29 omg they have a Super Gals game. If I found that I’d probably pass out
Hahaha! Yes, they have plenty of them :)
That Parasite Eve 2 cover looks 100 times better than the US variant.
Ooooh yes :)
SFC Super SF II has such a killer cover
I 100% agree with you :)
A collector gold mine! Where is this place in Japan!?
It is a gold mine :) The store's name is ''Hard Off''. They have a lot scattered around Japan. I would recommend going to the ones that are away from the city center as they are cheaper and have more selection.
I wish we had places like this here in the USA that sold game's for every console, here where i am it's very hard to find games for a good price cause the pawn shops overprice them, controllers i can find ablut anywhere, the issue for me is that it's getting impossible to find games for my consoles that aren't all scratched up, cause when they are scratched up then i can't dump them to my Desktop for emulation, I wish i could find alot of those consoles here tho in certain places like the PSP or PSVita
yeah it's too bad the current situation in the US. It's the same in France/Spain for me. Otherwise, you need to go to flea markets and attempt to get good deals :)
@MattFinds unfortunately we don't have any flea markets here locally, the only places I got here is the thrift shops and pawn shops
awesome video
Thanks a bunch!
I totally agree. Few years ago, in Tokyo, i got ALL Nintendo DS's models for under $30. ❤🎉😊
Where did u go to buy, going to Japan in 4 months and am looking to waste all my money on retro games and consoles

I also at a book off that was next to a hard off and found a somewhat good condition ps1 for only 200~ yen
Hey! 200 yen???? nooo wayyy haha that's crazy!
I remember in 2000, I worked my ass off in 1st grade to make straight A's. Parents took me to the mall and we went to a game store. Bought a Nintendo 64 and two games. I was the happiest kid in the world.
aaahh nice! :) For me, it was the playstation 1. I remember playing Rayman, Crash bandicoot and Tekken. Great times! :)
Great video! Def need a bigger audience
Thanks for the kind words :) Hopefully it will happen
I remember converting my Sega Megadrive to work with US cartridges. Weren’t 80s 90s consoles region locked? I believe Gameboy wasn’t. You sell this in the US? Thanks for sharing! So natsukashi! Arigato!
Yes, you are right most 80-90's consoles are region locked. You can somehow reconvert some of them, but it takes time. Gameboys don't have regional restrictions which is great :) Hahaha no I don't sell in the US especially due to the shipping fee. I just like to collect these days. Thank you very much for the question and watching! :)
oculdnt catch the location so well, asakai? also great video as usual! :)
Thanks a bunch! It's in Tachikawa Sakae, in the west of Tokyo. It's about 10 minutes by bus from Tachikawa station :)
@@MattFinds thanks a bunch for the info, taking note for when travel restrictions are lifted (no tours haha)
I'm heading to Tokyo soon, looked at the map and saw that this store is far from Central Tokyo. Would really like to see it though.
It's a bit far from central Tokyo yes. But the best ''Hard-Off stores'' are usually far away from the city center :(
I discovered hard off in Matsumoto of all places. My wife and I were stuck in a traffic jam and saw the sign. We had a giggle at the silly name and decided that as we weren't moving we would go and check out what hard off was.
Imagine the look of horror on my wife's face as she realised that she would lose the next three hours of her life while I rummaged through second-hand paradise.
We then stopped at every other hard off we passed.
You're right; the best ones are remote. We went to the one in Ueno a few years later and it wasn't great.
Hahaha I can imagine. My girlfriend had the same look :)
I'm gonna spend my life savings to go there.😂
Hahaha I think most people do :)
are u troll ??
Would like to see if they have a Neo-Geo and games ❤❤❤
Thanks for the comment. I think they didn't have Neo-Geo in this Hard Off. However, they have some in other Hard Off stores.
It’s very organized and I like that about they’re company but the packaging doesn’t have to be so compact, Your sealing the sticks to tight and will make the controller have stick drift.
Yeah for sure, but Japan loves plastic. They wrap everything tightly with plastic :)
& they selling guitar effects too ..
OMG ..
ooooh yes :)
The Japanese Super Famicom Controllers look so much better in comparison to the North American SNES and the only difference was colored buttons. Genius.
Yes, I do agree with you :)
The Japanese super Famicon system as a whole looks better then it’s North America counter part.
the Japanese is the same as the Europe version. just the usa version was like that.
Hi Matt, do you know if you can play european games on Japanese systems like PS1, Nintendo Wii, xbox 360 etc.?
Hello Jan,
Unfortunately, you cannot play european games on old Japanese consoles. The games are usually regions locked.
Games are region locked to 4 regions. NTSC-JP (Japan), NTSC-UC (USA, Canada, Mexico, etc), PAL (UK, Europe, Australia, NZ, some other countries) and NTSC-CH (China).
i would like to go one day with my savings and buy every console, just to collect them
hahahah my savings definitely took a hit :)
the paradise of the retro game. Here in spain u find a ps1 with the laser fucked up and about like 200 euros fuck that and u cannot trust ebay either
9:13 bureva fenca musasshiden!!!
Yes :)
Yet in eBay finding a boxed working N64 complete, would never go for $45!
Yeah that's for sure!
I would like the playstation one , but cd is hard to find now before so easy get game cd in illegal sellers 😂
Yes, it's difficult to find Japanese ps1 games outside of Japan.
you know if i could play with european games on this japanese console? Is there a difference between the inserts?
Unfortunately on PS1, the games are region locked and technically you can't play EU games on a Japanese ps1 console. However, there is a technique that people used to manage to do so. You can check some TH-cam videos about that, but it's a little annoying to do it every time you wanna play a game.
thank you very much thats helpful. Does this also go for N64 games@@MattFinds
oww men good for collection
Yeaaah it's amazing to build a collection :)
should’ve put a ‘refurbished’ label, then they can sell it at 5-10 times more expensive
Yes, they could have :)
Were there any beyblade games there also awesome video
I haven't seen any when I was there, but I'm pretty sure they do.
i just want to know how they wrap those things
Hahaha Japan is the king of plastic :)
e pink ps controller you picked up was a fake one off ebay that are terrible. and it was 16 dollars? bit weird.
Yeah someone told me that before. But it's weird because people know what they are doing in the shop so I don't understand why they put it for sell.
BRB going to japan with a couple of empty suitcases
hahaha enjoy man :)

Did they have Amazing Tater for the Game Boy?
3:43 That pink one is fake. I've seen those online. Fake PS controllers with the "P3" where the PlayStation logo is meant to go. On the button on the front.
Yeah, there was a previous comment about the pink controller. I guess I didn't see it when recording.
HOW MUCH ARE THE WII CONTROLLERS
I bet those aren't that cheap anymore since travel is back in Japan.
They have probably increased some of the prices since the borders opened.
Do they operate an official online retail platform, or do they conduct their sales through eBay?
They operate through an official online retail platform.

Thank you very much. Much obliged!
Holy shit, Rockman DASH and Rockman DASH 2 for 50 bucks.
Incredible indeed! :)
I guess Japan doesn't play much video games because they have everything a available all the consoles! Wow 😳 n very cheap to nice
They have everything. It's super incredible :)
Where is this shop in tokyo or is there a area for vintage video games thanks
The name of the shop is ''Hard Off''. It's a chain and they have shops scattered all around Tokyo. But the big ones are a bit far away from the city center. This one is in Tachikawa, on the west side of Tokyo.

Oke i got to know. If you buy a lot of these stuf and want to send it ahead of you back to your home country. Is it possible?
Hmm it's probably possible, but it might be costly. Better to come with an extra empty suitcase and put everything inside.
It's funny how everything is pretty much around the same price for retro consoles all around the world.
Well at least here in the Philippines and Japan. I asked my friend to browse and some were abhorrently priced aswell
I'm not sure what you mean. I'm currently living in Spain and the prices for retro console are definitely not the same as in Japan.
How much OG Xbox stuff did you find?
Can't really remember the exact number, but there was a few of them. Most Hard off stores have some.
if only the store had a website i would order holy shit thats nuts being cheap for ps1
