Hoo boy I hear you on both walking and heat. On my trip last year (May) I averaged 27,000 steps a day. The heat though... lordy. I'm a big guy. 6 foot 8 and broad - 300 pounds. So, I feel it. Two memories regarding the heat stick with me. One: stepping outside our Airbnb in August 2019 at *3am* and IT WAS ALREADY THIRTY-TWO FREAKING DEGREES. Mein gott! Two: standing in front of the fans on the fourth floor of Yodobashi Camera Akiba. They set up about fifty fans blasting away in one direction, and I was *not* the only shopper enjoying that, ha. My vote for best month? Feb/March. There's the obvious benefits of sakura season in the latter but those cool, blue mornings hit just right. 👌 Thanks for the vid anyway! Always love watching your escapades. 🤙
You are so correct about the amount of walking... I wrecked my ankle in Hiroshima, powered through the pain and hated my foot every evening when I got to the hotel 😅. I'd do it again (and dropped 15ish lbs over the 3 weeks I was there) and found some great deals overall, but it took almost 3 months after coming home for the ankle to recover to 100%.
First time I have ever heard another gamer declare one of his favorite games being Adventures of Batman & Robin for the Genesis. It is one of my highest regarded games of all time, I have beaten the game more than 100 times since I discovered it 20+ years ago, that incredible soundtrack is deeply ingrained into my brain. An entertaining video, by the way!
So true about the walking! I averaged 8 miles a day with 11 on one of the days and it really didn't feel like it at all. Some advice for those heading over for the first time is to bring at least two pairs of walking shoes and swap them in the middle of the day every day. I went last September and I cannot wait to go back for another trip. Ueno station was my home base so I am really familiar with the area.
I have to sleep now i need to get up early tomorrow i need to visit trader again i will continue watching this vid again when I'm back home and comment more
This new format of video is awesome, JJ! I had a feeling that you would get sparkster, but I was wrong ahahah. Looking foward to see the Sapporo game hunting.
Nice pickup. I love your editing practices and I've missed your uploads a bit. I'm looking at coming to Japan in 2024 and would definitely like to join you for tours. If I come on my own I would like some company from time to time, last time I had the wife and it was so hot as you said, like 35C-100F it was like an oven and so depressing lol. Currently I'm looking at bringing a friend but if he cannot make it I'll come on my own. I Wonder if I can make it on my own without being nervous, thats a long way to go on your own . Is selling for cash only or do they give a voucher/coupon for a higher value?
I recently saw another Twilight Syndrome game, and it had a completely different cover. It has "The Memorize" as a subtitle. It was also more expensive than the two features in this video. Cheers!
Wassup JJ! So happy to see you growing. Please keep up showing the path to the store, it is great to see. I always watch your videos while working and/or relaxing on the couch before playing something hahaha Have a nice one!
Retro Game Camp is a bit odd for me. They had a lot of DMG Gameboys when I visited that shop, but every single one was overpriced...by a lot! more than 20000 Yen for a loose DMG Gameboy in medium condition? That is wild! I bought one for 5000 in Osaka, but I have to admit, that it is hard to find a boxed DMG for a good price. Also, I can confirm: a good shoe can save your legs for sure! :D I walked between 10 km and 20 km every day during my stay in Japan, there's so much to see!
Pricing for the DMG Game Boy can vary quite a bit. The OFF stores tend to have the best deals on them. And yes! Some quality shoes make all the difference. Haha, cheers!
good hunt..that alice like pce game is marchen maze...an arcade port....it features an overhead camera unlike the isometric view of the arcade one that i played on my channel eheh
Hey man thank you for these companion videos☺️ is possibile to know which Hard Off is this one? I’ll be in Tokyo on March so I’d like to find some good deals especially for Pokemon games. Thank you so much!
There are still a few stores in Akihabara that have really good, competitive prices. Obviously some of the more well known stores out on the main street are going to charge premium prices. I found a lot of really good games for half (or less) or pricecharting and ebay prices. Edit: I was looking for Kyukyoku Tiger on my recent trip as well lol. I ended up just getting the Toaplan Arcade Garage release for PS4 from Amazon JP and it has 2 decent ports.
I totally agree with what you say about Akiba. There are a few stores with competitive prices that make the trip out there totally worth it! I did an unboxing video on the Switch version of KyuKyoku Tiger. It was the M2 Shot Triggers release, also available on PS4. It’s a great release. I’ll keep hunting for the sequel. Cheers!
Dotonbori isn't a great spot for retro game hunting, but it's great as a tourist attraction. I think they only have one major store that offers retro games: Book OFF Plus. In Osaka, Denden Town is more comparable to Akiba. Between those two, there isn't too much of a difference in regard to retro game prices. My personal preference is Akiba, but Denden has its own charms. Cheers!

Haha, yes! The heat felt at night is so draining. Cheers!

Same thing happened to my cousin during his trip to Japan last month. Glad to hear you’re back to 100%!

I consider the game a masterpiece. Ole' Clockwork Tortoise really outdid themselves with that release. Cheers!
I was there at that exact time next to that green truck hahahaha I even filmed 3:22
That Red Turbo Twin Famicom 🤤 Gonna find that one day hopefully in pristine condition 😀, Cheers JJ - another Banger mate!
I must say the red Twin Famicoms are stunners! Cheers!
New fan, been watching your videos for a week or two now. I love the retro game collection/hunting! Very relaxing watching the store tours.

That's some good advice, cheers!
I'm glad you mentioned you need an ID card to trade stuff in. Saved me from bringing a steam deck along with me when I go to Japan later this year
Yep, it’s an important thing to note. More to come, cheers!
I'll be in Tokyo in August, so this was really insightful. I really enjoyed the format, thanks for the video!
Thanks for tuning in, and happy hunting. Cheers!

Absolutely, let me know! As for selling, it’s cash only. Cheers!
HUMAN titles are two twilight syndrome games, horror adventure... mainly text.

I normally sleep or look at my phone on the train in the states. I used to play Vita on the train, but not anymore.
Yep, I’m the same way. Cheers!

I haven’t seen that title before. It def has me curious. Thanks for the tip, cheers!
Nice video bro! I appreciate the effort you to put into them 👌💯
You got my subscription for sure. Keep em coming!

@@RetroReWire thank you so much man! I appreciate it! 🤟
Always cool seeing these videos! Looking forward to my time in Tokyo in just 3 days
Nice! The excitement must be real. Hope you have a great time!

@@RetroReWire I'll have to check that out. You're one of my favorite new channels to check out. Love the content, man.
I always wondered who has the best prices for buy backs? Do people seem to agree it's Retro Game Camp vs Surugaya, Mandarake, super potato, etc?
Retro Game Camp and Mandarake, I feel. Surugaya, Retro Game Camp and Super Potato have their buy back prices posted on their websites! Cheers!
I love your videos
Thanks! More is on the way. Cheers!
Between retro game hunting in Akihabara and Dotonbori, which would you recommend price wise?

20:25 Cosmic Fantasy I'm got that game in the Switch!!!
I’ve seen it before, does it support ENG language options? Cheers!
@RetroReWire The Nintendo Switch version does, not sure about the PC engine version.
Sweet, thanks for the info!
The only good shops in Aki are trader 1 & 2 and suragaya the one above the garage facing east.
I do like that Surugaya you mention!
Man, I'm looking for アラジン on mega drive, let me know if you happened to see it around tokyo pls, thanks
I cannot do anything handheld while on train, I feel dizzy immediately
Bummer!
Omg we visited the same store on the same day 5:00
Good ole Sunday!
What is that store? They have a haa-2510 in box 😅 want to go there in my trip 😁 could you tell me where that store is please?
The Hard OFF is located in Ageo, Saitama Japan. It’s a great shop!
@@RetroReWire thank you 😁
Prices in Japan are way too high in comparison to the retro market in China. You can get a pcengine duor for half of what it costs in Japan.
Wow, I had no idea. That’s something to look into. Cheers!
Could do a video on PSP hunting in Japan, please?
What's the location of the last HARDOFF please ?
I want to know ps5 used once prices please
They can be found for as low as ¥44,000, console only. The avg seems to be around ¥55,000. Cheers!
This 8:27 hardoff is new and boring, visited last week.
