Im having some trouble with my shift shaft, it will spin maybe 60° back and forth but wont actually click into any gears. I also noticed that the shift shaft will move up and down about an 1/4". If you have any idea on what could've happened any help would be great.

Thanks for watching, any update? Is this happening as is before repairs or is it occurring after replacing the shift shaft parts?
It’s possible that the internal lever or gears are being interfered by something. Keep us posted.

I have A INLINE 6 1988 115 HP MERC, FOR "TORQUE" ON THE SHIFT SHAFT BUSHING, MY MANUAL SAYS "N/A" FOR INLINE 6 ?
    FOR V6 IT SHOWS 50 LBS ?
BUT IN THE INSTRUCTIONS THE ONLY DIRECTION I SEE, IS TO TIGHTEN JUST "SNUG" ?

Good morning ☕️ that’s interesting. Well, since serial number service manual says NA, snug without over-tightening it is the next best option.

Michael, I am curious why you replaced nearly everything in the drive? The parts had to cost as much as or more than a re-man drive? Dare to share the parts total? I am just replacing a couple of parts and I am over 1k just with those few parts.

Great to hear from you again Jeff, we found it more valuable to replace everything and create videos for the entire boating DIY community.
We new it was going to cost a little more however we got to keep our original upper and lower case and have all new internal parts.
Replacement parts are not cheap nowadays. We spent roughly 2k however our mission was a fully DIY rebuilt outdrive and many helpful videos for the community.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders thats great, and you did a great job. I didn't see any video about checking gear lash between fwd/reverse/pinion on the output shaft. Did i miss that video?

We appreciate that, gear lash is best referenced with your exact manual. We performed as much as we could that falls under the category of similar repairs across a broad range of outdrives however the parts that are crucial to one’s exact manual, we chose to not cover…to alleviate giving misleading information. 👍

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders nice, well thought out, good man. Gear lash is certainly a confusing deal.
