Shift Shaft : Great presentation. I've been looking on the net for 2 days, Day 3 The Guy From Finland Pops Up 👍Thanks I Have a 1989 Mercury 80Hp Runs Great. 1st of November I Sucked Sand into the Pump. I Cleaned the Pump and Reused it So I could Go Out the next Day. I also changed the Oil at that Time. I only went out 1 more time Before The Ice Hit. So the oil Should have been good. I Just Installed a New Pump and Pulled the Plug to Change the Oil and the Oil was Milky. Pressure Tested and Found the Shift Shaft Seal Was Leaking. Pulled the 2 Bolts and Pried the Seal housing up. When The Housing Came Free The Shift Shaft Popped up like with Pressure and Now The Shift Shaft Just Spins. I can See at the bottom of The Shift Shaft Tube the Hole the Shift Shaft will go into But The Shift Shaft Just Bottoms out . I'm Thinking The Pressure of The Prop Shaft Pushed the Shift Cam back. I Think If I remove the Bearing Carrier and loosen the prop Shaft the Shift Shaft might loosen up enough to Line the Shift Shaft back Up . I'm waiting On "The Book" To Get a Better Look . I've Subscribed so I'll Look at A Few More Of Your Videos Before I Tear Into It. Your Videos Are Great and Explain the Process Very Well. Thank You Much . I'll Be Looking Back Soon. Oh Yeah This Is Jim.
Thanks, Jim. I'm not sure I'll be hitting rocks too often for more content like this :) but I can always find what to renovate in my boat and make a video on that.
Great video, nice ending! To remove the driving shaft, is it possible to rotate it with the propeller instead of using the special tool on the top of the driving shaft? I had my fin rewelded and now it is hard to shift, probably casing distortion. I am planning to open it at the end of the fishing season to see what is sticking.
@andrebabin5153 If you plan to open it, you will need a set of tools, not only for the driveshaft socket. Video about the full rebuild of Mercury lower unit is coming soon.
I don't think chipped affects anything if everything works fine. Or probably you are actually talking about a special hole for the pito sensor that looks like chipped.
Can anyone tell me the size of wrench you need to remove the driveshaft pinion nut on a 150hp? (see minute 17) I need to remove mine because I didn't watch this video first. I need to grind a wrench done narrow enough and I don't want to guess and find out I'm wrong after grinding the first wrench. Thank you in advance!
Guys, I released a video of full rebuild of this lower unit: th-cam.com/video/qB3RhCjL22w/w-d-xo.html

Hi i have 60hp mercury and got a small chiped on the front unit where u cut it on your
Its is bad?

Hi. Why is reverse gear stuck and how did you take it out? Mine is stuck and won’t Go out
Reverse gear virtually can't stuck, there is nothing in front of it except the bearing carrier.

This is a one-time nut, so you anyway need to buy it. So when you have the nut, you can figure out the wrench size.
Thanks!
Is this same on 35 hp
Sorry, I don't know.
i did mine now reverse does not work
Probably installed on the mid unit incorrectly
👍🍺
