    I came across this video while searching for help with a different issue. I watched a bit to see if any of it was relative to my issue, and was thoroughly impressed. I would have no hesitation to attempt this procedure on my own after watching this video. Every part, tool and the exact procedure are painstakingly displayed and explained. This may be the most precise video how to video on YT. Thank you.

    You got to remember to add zinc to all that the older stuff works better because there was zinc in all the oils also a lot of the replacement parts are molded from recycled metal back then they didn't recycle metal they made Metal pure but good job on the rebuild! Very useful

    This series of videos is expertly put together. Thank you. I’m considering rebuilding my Mercury gear box since my shaft bearings are showing slight slack wear. Can you tell me approximately how much all these parts cost you with the specialty tools? Since this is not the only issue with my Merc outboard, I have to weigh the possibility of a total repower.

    Great video, landed here because I'm having issues with my 05 Mercury 115 4 stroke. I would give my motor some gas and it would Rev very high and slowly picks up speed. I used to top out at 43 mph, now only 30 mph. I'm thinking maybe my shaft my by damaged? Who knows. Any experience with that?

    Michael.. when my car first starts it runs perfectly but as it warms up it starts to miss, or run rough. I just put in all spark plugs. Could it be the coil pack?

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching & it’s possible. A bad coil will degrade new plugs. Keep us posted.

    Great video. Thank you. My lower unit does not have a serial number. What would happened if i were to use one of the wrong letters on the pinnon gear nut wrench?

      Thanks for watching, are you installing original standard gear and bearing set or are you changing to the press-fit design?

    • @jordanbeyer7607

      @DIYwithMichaelBorders I have a 1988 alpha 1 and need to replace either the spool shaft or shift crank as I have about 12 degrees of play in the shifting arm. If all the gears look good, I plan to just replace those parts that are bad and use the original gears.
      Thank you

      Very cool, not a bad approach. Replacing the shaft bushing is important as well. 👍
