I have an original 3DS and a PSP 3000 that I’ve modded to use for handheld retro gaming. In general, I use the PSP for PS1, NES, GBA, GB/C, Genesis, SMS, GG, Lynx, WSC, NGP, CPS, and Neo Geo; while I use the 3DS for PCE, SNES, VB, and DS (though there is some crossover). Between those and native retro collections, I’ve got a pretty substantial library of gaming machines I can play in the palm of my hand, so I haven’t really seen much reason to go in on those dedicated emulation handhelds yet. I think once those start to get Dolphin and PCSX2 running well at reasonable prices, I’ll probably bite-assuming I don’t already have a Steam Deck or something by then.
We will have jailbroken Switches at some point. Eventually someone will find a way to redirect the Switch updater on a pretend-server, and feed it a jailbroken system update. It's a matter of time. No jail is impossible to break.
