Once again I tip my hat off to the design team. And bonus points for not copy pasta the GV80 interior into the G80.
The only thing I don't like about the new G80 is the lack of V8, pour one out for the homie.
As to your question, M, I don't need the AWD, but the interior could make the point for it. If I was buying, I'd test drive both cars and spend a good amount of time inside each one before I decide.
    As always, excellent work, M.

    • @IceDree
      @IceDree 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@MotoManTV its not that particular V8 per se, its the idea of a V8 luxury midsize sedan. The only ones left under the $100k mark are the older than dirt Chrysler 300 (using the L word very very loosely here) & the BMW M550i. The Bimmer gets so expensive once you start ticking options, you might as well cross the threshold & get a full fat M5.
There's the upcoming Ghibli Trofeo, but I seriously doubt it'll be under 90k.

@@IceDree I’ve tested the previous G80 3.3T V6 and I honestly didn’t think I’d prefer it over the old V8 but I did. The torque comes a lot sooner and is spreaded out more evenly. It was definitely not as fast as the V8 but this new 3.5T has been reported to do 0-60 in 4.5s, which is a major improvement.
However, I do really miss that V8 sound as well..

I'm choosing this or the GV80, I currently have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan and Love it. Exterior design is beautiful. Interior design is beautiful, and what you get for the money, including warranty, including concierge services for 3 years. All that alone should convince you to lean towards this brand. Of course people are Brand Snobs. And there goes my NUMBER #1 REASON, to buy this vehicle, because I'm not that way. I want different, I want who offers me the most for my money. If I had millions, I'm still buying this over Mercedes or BMW.

Having owned a 2012 Genesis (Hyundai) 4.6L V8, I'm sad to see the V8 go away.... However, this redesign is definitely stunning. On the price point..... I've owned a few Hyundais and I still don't feel confident enough in my fellow motorists to not be badge snobs. Which in fact, is the way that the Genesis wings came about to begin with. At a top end of $70k, Genesis will have to offer some attractive lease offers to usher new customers in. That, and get their crap together on their stand-alone dealership situation. If they do that and come up with a CPO program similar to MBUSA's, they'll gain confidence for CPO buyers, like myself.

I'll go with the Genesis. It certain has a better presence than it's competitors. It has a lot of room for improvement, and arguably it won't leave you on the side of the road in 5 years; but if it does you have a 10 year powertrain warranty that will gives you a peace of mind. The S Class is undoubtedly, the most advanced luxury car money can buy, but it will depreciate even faster given it's complexities, so that leaves Genesis, Kia k900 to dominate the used luxury car market.

how many, in total, do you think will sell in America?
ok, so it is nice...but nobody is buying these cars.
nobody, except the rich, and do you really think they will make the switch enough times to make this expense a success, financially?
motoman can like it all he wants...he will never buy one.

This is the most logical and honest response in any review of this car I’ve seen so far.

Paul, you make a very fair point. Here's some general market data for you that somewhat supports your point - but for ALL OEMs that play in the space. Crossovers like a RAV4 or a CRV each sell about 250,000 units in the US alone a year. Their sedan counterparts used to do those numbers but now they are a bit less, but still 200,000+ units. That said, the minute you go over US$40,000, volumes half. At that, the ONLY car (not CUV or SUV) that sells 100,000 units annually is the BMW 3 Series - and that figure is *worldwide*. So yes, numbers on anything in the US$50,000 - 70,000 range will be orders of magnitude less but not inconsequential. It's when you arrive at US$70,000 that the volume starts to plummet. Take this brand's top car, the G90: If they sell 2,000 units annually in the US, that would be a win - which is what their business case is based on. So at the end of the day, the question you should be asking yourself is not how many they sell, rather, what is their business case and how do they arrive at profitability . . .

man, I would have been fired and drummed out of business if my sales reports had this as a "business plan".
i don't know where these folks come up with this, but in my business world, you get whipped talking like that.
you'd be beaten out of the boardroom.
my chair would have fallen through the trap floor my boss would have opened, into the shark tank under the floor.
i personally love my cars and wish people would stop trying to get the swiss-army knife vehicle.
      it ain't gonna happen.
there is never gonna be one that does everything.
look...SUVs cargo. it should be against the law to count cargo above the rear seat. if you don't supply a flip-up protective barrier, then it is a horrible plan and any sudden stop or accident will behead the rear passengers.
my 2010 MKS with 3.5 ecoboost has a 19 cu ft trunk. I bet it will hold more than most suvs ...safely.

The steering wheel is very ugly. Other than that, the interior looks very nice.
