    People want svelte design, advanced tech, premium materials and a quiet cabin from a luxury sedan. The all-new 2021 Genesis G80 has all that and a price tag that beats all comers. A loaded model is only a few thousand dollars more than a base Mercedes E350. Generation three is a charmer and a bold step forward for Hyundai’s premium brand. The established players should pay attention. Tom Voelk drives a rear-drive 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with the top Prestige Package and finds the only things missing are badge recognition and dedicated showrooms.

    Genesis brand is very popular with the new wealthy Palm Beach people. Many switched from their Benz etc and in their words:”yes, I am wealthy. No, I’m not stupid! This car has everything I want and saved me twenty grand!” And that is one of many similar conversations I had with people in a couple high end Boca communities where I worked. As for me - I own a Genesis and a new Santa Fe Limited loaded with every option. Love them both!

      The Genesis G90 is more popular than the German luxury brands (BMW , BENZ , AUDI) in Korea. Korean politicians and businessmen use it a lot. In Korea, rich people and business leaders who have a lot of money sometimes ride the Genesis G90 for business purposes. In Korea, there is a culture of respect when riding a domestic car. @@dark6c159 It does sound like an annoying experience, but your cheap Kia has nothing to do with the luxury cars like the k900, G80 and G90. It also sounds like your car is actually not under warranty, so I'm not sure why you'd expect a manufacturer to fix something they never said they supported, potentially many years after you bought it...Basically any manufacturer would ask you go simply take it to a local garage and fix whatever is wrong unless it's something explicitly covered under their warranty or part of a recall. You're also free to get a German luxury car for more money and with 2-3 years of warranty instead of 5-10 if you think it'll break down less often.

      Depends in what field you are in. I'm in real estate and it is very competitive. Your image and appearance is key in making sales. Our top guys drives Bentley's, Aston's, S63's, etc. and some of our newer guys drives like a C class or a 3 series. Even if it's not intentional, people will most likely trust and buy from our top guys since the image that they project is ''success'' (and yes, they are very good at socializing and what they are doing).

    • @venom5809
      @venom5809 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@fearfactz1 Actually I find in sales positions more expensive cars hurt you, people tend to not trust the guy driving the flashy expensive cars, tend to associate that with stealing their money or other untrustworthy activity. My neighbor for example is president of an investment bank and he drives a BMW 5 series and his wife an X5 and before he became president he always drove cheaper cars. I personally tend to avoid the expensive suit, expensive shoes, Rolex wearing types of salesmen, I have seen those types burn way too many people I know in my lifetime, they tend to have a lack of ethics and morals. Another friend and neighbor who also runs an investment bank did the whole red Ferrari convertible thing a few years ago and had it proudly outside his office and that didn't last long, it was gone shortly and the S-Class and Escalade came back. I find the overarching sentiment most people I know that see someone in sales driving something expensive is "so that's where my money is going" and "how much is he ripping me off to pay for that". LOL
      Of course this is a regional and cultural thing too.

    With a kid off to college in two years and a big dog who insists on traveling with the family about 90% of the time I won't be rushing to the local Genesis dealer to purchase a G80 or GV80. But one aspect of each does interest me. The standard 2.5L turbo engine is also found in the forthcoming Sonata N-Line, the KIA K5 GT, and (most importantly from my perspective) is optional in the 2021 KIA Sorento.
    I own a 2018 Sorento SUV with the 3.3L NA V6 and I was skeptical about durability when I heard that engine was being dropped in favor of the turbo four banger. But I was reassured to find the same engine in KIA, Hyundai, and Genesis products, all with the Korean brands' well known 10 year/100K powertrain warranties. Considering the improved fuel efficiency and equal or better performance, if the new engine is durable, it's a win/win.
    I'm not overly impressed by extended warranties. Like any insurance policy they're not offered if the insurer loses money by redeeming them. However, a long warranty does demonstrate an automaker's confidence in their product. And that often extends to dealers. My local KIA dealer, for example, doubles the 10 year/100K powertrain warranty to 20 yr/200K miles free of charge on vehicles they sell.
    As far as the G80 is concerned, members of the local country club driving E Class and 5 Series sedans may sneer but at least some folks who are well enough off to belong to the local CC got there by understanding the value of a dollar. When Genesis introduced the new G80 last year in Korea sales of competing Mercedes and BMW models dropped by more than a third. I think Genesis has a winner in both the G80 and the GV80.

    Hi Tom, I see a lot of oohs and aahs but but very little from actual owners of the car. I have a new 2021 G80 Prestige which I acquired in late February as a birthday present for myself. Even though it is less expensive than and E Class Mercedes or a 5 series BMW comparably equipped it leases for numbers that are as high as or higher than the aforementioned. This is my 3d G80. Actually, to be totally correct, my first was a 2015 Hyundai Genesis which was the prior name for the Genesis G80, but the same car. My 2d was a 2017 Ultimate with the 3.8 311 HP engine. Up till now the G80 has been a reasonable substitute for a Jaguar XJ at a lower price. I say up till now because my prior two G80s had a much better build quality than my new 2021 G80 prestige does. Unfortunately its interior beauty is only skin deep. It is cheaply made with recycled plastic parts that go snap, crackle and pop like a bowl of rice crispiest on steroids. The drivetrain is far inferior to the prior car and the car shakes and shudders like a tractor when the engine starts and shuts down. The car hit's the brakes on its own when uncalled for and the car gets unstable because of this braking action. It can be scary at times. I have a couple of female friends who won’t ride in the car after it did some wacky things at highway speeds which is a shame because it should be a babe magnet.
