Every time I "take a train for a ride through the countryside" it brings me back to my recollections of different marvelous stays in this country while I cannot go to Japan in this year. Thank you for mounting this video. Especially in Winter, the air deeper in the countryside of some provinces in Japan smells like in rural areas of my home country of Austria.
I don't know why but as I watch your cab view video around Gifu I just feel like some part of my soul belongs there. Maybe because I lived about one year in Gifu city when I was young. Thank you so much for such great videos. You don't know me, I don't know you, but your great work means a lot to me, and I'm thankful for that.
Almost once a year I travel to Japan and trains are the best way to go everywhere, at this time of the pandemic I miss it so much. This video really entertained me, reminding me how beautiful it is to travel by train in Hokkaido in winter. Thank you very much for the beautiful panorama that you have presented, I really hope that Nagaragawa Railway can solve the financial problems it faces and I can ride it someday.
Yes it reminds me riding by train up to Wakkanai at the top of Hokkaido in 2017. various lines in Norway, and Narvik, Norway to Lulea, Sweden is also fabulous in Winter.
!WOW! the ride going up was awesome, and coming back is equally impressive, railfan aunz your the best, thank you for great adventure into the japan countryside.
This randomly came up in my feed. I took this train from Mino-Ota to Gujo-Hachiman and back in the spring a year before the upload date. Scenic, and worth the day trip from Nagoya!
The weather, was typical British weather in Japan. That the journey started in a snow storm, then it stop, and then sleet, and finally sunshine, all in one rail trip.
I can barely hear the train even from inside the train... So people can actually live near railway and sleep well, it seems. UPD: Ok, now I remember, I were staying at the house near railway bridge when I was in Japan last year. It was a bit noisy at first, but mainly cause there were also shinkansen railway nearby too.
no ? i saw it in belconnen canberra the past two winters falling outside my window and on the mountain hill tops over yonder (from my view from my window)
I agree. Besides, all road vehicles in Japan are required by law to STOP before crossing a railway line on the level -- whether a train is coming or not. (Crossings like this one -- with no barriers or lights at all -- are, by the way, rare in Japan.)
Looks like they are exchanging a Token, a physical object that allows a train to be on a specific section of rail. There's only one, this way two trains aren't allowed to be on the same section as an extra safety measure on top of signals. This process has been mostly automated in Australia.
Etsumi-Nan (south) line originally plan to connect with the Etsumi-north line , and it would forms as Etsumi line that running between Fukui and Mino-ota (Gifu), But this plan is unfortunately abandoned because Japan National Railway (JNR) have no money to continue to constructing this line , and JNR soon collapsed to six JR company . Etsumi North line (Fukui to nine-head dragon lakes) , run by JR west nowadays and this line----Etsumi-Nan (South) line run by the third operator----Nagaragawa Railway. Why Those railway were named as "Etsumi"? It is because "Etsusen" is the old name of Fukui, and "Mino" is the old name of Gifu. japanese use the first word "Etsu" and "Mi" of this two prefecture's old name to named this railway which originally plan to connect Gifu (Mino) and Fukui (Etsusen). They separated as North and South line because The part that connect Hokuno and Nine-head dragon lakes of this line, still not completed , and would never connect again . that's why I said the full plan of this line was abandoned and withdraw.
Wonderful video - what camera / lens setup did you use for this ? Very nice steady shots - did you have a small tripod setup ? Excellent capture! cheers
This train has a structure with only a half of the cab. It is similar to a bus driver's cab. Therefore, you can shoot videos as if you shot from the driver's cab. The camera is SONY 's AX 40. Thank you for watching the video.
It hard to see the weather from snow to the clear sky in same time. But, why the heavy snow happen on central of Japan, can't imagine how Hokaido heaviest ?
i fought in a civil war and this calms me down a lot, thanks from benin!
This brings back some wonderful childhood memories. Japan was a magical place to spend your childhood..

Nice! It’s like a trip from Winter to Summer (to an extent). And then to Autumn. But Autumn with palm trees. 🌴🍂

Greate Video! I like the start with almost virgin snow which slowly changes along the travel.
Thanks for the video! My son and I enjoy so much!

Nice ride ! Whenever someone takes a photo of the train I flash the victory sign. Pretending they could see it. It keeps me from falling asleep.

That was an excellent journey, especially as I have not seen any ‘real live’ snow since 1972, back home in England. 🐨🇦🇺

I'm amazed at how deep the snow is yet the rails are clear does anyone know if they are using trace heating on the rails ?
Thanks for video, the amount of road traffic not using dipped headlights, a bit iffy!
