- AA Step 4, Inventory!
Step 4 can be a very intimidating step for many of us to tackle. But it is one of the most helpful steps of AA to help us get our life in order. It took me two years to get the courage to do the step. But when I did step 4, I felt much better and I knew at the very second that I was finally on the right track to a better life. Just do it !!! and keep it simple !!

There is a 4th column. ‘Turning to our list again … where had we been selfish self seeking dishonest and frightened. What was my mistake? Where was I at fault?. Thats the absolute most important part of 4
Turning to our list again with our sponsor I appreciate him very much for putting this out there just how it is
Thank you for the information. I'm 30 days sober
30 days,right on !!
Finally, someone who can explain this step to me. Appreciate it man
This is an excellent channel . Thanks Terry
Thank You Very Much :)
I just found you today and I love your approach! I’m not an alcohol, I am recovering codependent, food addict, Dealing with low self-worth and repressed feelings. As you know, the problem is never the problem. What we see as the problem is a symptom of the problem.
Looking forward to listening to more of your insights!
just started my fourth step today! this was very helpful. Thanks for being of service.
I have never drank since I did my 4th and 5th step. Keep up the good work :)
I hope you’re doing well, Dan 💪
“Let nothing disturb you, nothing frighten you, all things are passing, God is unchanging. Patience gains all; nothing is lacking to those who have God: God alone is sufficient.”
― St. Teresa of Avila
Thanks Terry for your time and support 👍🏻
Take it one day at a time :)
Thanks so much for the video--I have been sponsoring a guy (my first time sponsoring), and he was confused--this was very helpful. Thanks again. Liked and subbed!
Good luck with your first time sponsoring .Im sure you with do a great job :)
My hat is off to you, good job. Thanks Terry
Thank you Terry G. I've only just started writing down my biggest resentments, but have gone no further.
Watching your video gave me comfort and some much needed inspiration
Going on 3 years sober in may. I just stared AA recently but have been stuck right here. Thank you so much .
You got this!
I love how you kept it simple
Thanks, Dave.
Keeping it smiple well doing your 4th is the best ,helps with stress of it
Thank you for this. True to my alcoholic form - I have been overthinking my Step 4...and I REALLY need to do it. I appreciate the simplicity of your video. =)
You did a nice job breaking down the four step super helpful to me in my recovery very grateful God bless you keep going buddy
Thank You
Thank you very helpful
Thank you for this video. I have a sponsee doing her 4th step and I'm intimidated! I'm going to do my 4th again so I'm up to speed. I love this refresher!
Keep it simple ,you'll do great 👍
I'm 60 days in and have no "sponsor"... I am working on my fourth step. I don't know if I will ever stop doing a step 4. But just looking at it and working on it, is TOTALLY liberating AND helping to get clarity.
May I suggest you do get a sponsor? Strength in numbers. God Bless. I hope your doing well.
@@skottyo getting a sponsor is NOWHERE in the 12 steps. I have confessed to another man... he is not my "sponser". The rooms are my "sponser". Sponsorship is waaayyyy overrated... but, to each his own.
Sharing it with another person sets us free. I've avoided it for 10 years, I'm going for it
It's never too late ,go for it !!
I had no “sponsor” the first time I got “sober” just came off a nice 4 year mind bender.
I have a Sponsor now
I just got my first SPONSEE yesterday, and this has helped me know how to explain it to her in simpler terms. I do have a sponsor, obviously, but I can’t call her right now because she’s at work lol I am going to start introducing the big book and the fourth step and all of the inventories to her this afternoon. Thank you so much for this video.
If you have any questions
Just leave in the comments, and I'll get back to you
Thank you.
Go for it !!
Thanku
Thanks bro you helped me out on step four. I understand how you feel about the reading part and spelling that gives me courage to keep going. You explained it good
This is a great video. Im just about to re-do step 4 with my sponsor. We are using the Back to Basics book by Wally P and you are bang on the money - keep it simple and easy does it. The back to basics is great too because it takes all of the passages from the big book and there's page numbers and paragraphs noted in it so you can find everything really easily. Happy to subscribe. Glad to have found your channel.
Long time sober first time sponsor. Going straight out of the big book like my sponsor did for me no hazeltons no bs. I agree I told my sponsee the pettier the resentment the more important to write it down. Be thorough and call me if you get stuck
Old school is the best .Keep pasing it on .I use the book all the time its the simplest way to work the program.
Thanks terry great help
Keep it smiple:)
Starting my fourth step today
Just remember, it doesn't have to be perfect. The main thing is you are doing your 4th and is great news :)
Going on for months and at step 4, just starting, found your channel and received some good encouragement from this clip. Very practical. Thanks for the post! Subscribed.
Keeping it simple and taking action to be very helpful in my program. I waited 2 years to do my 4th step because I felt very overwhelmed when it came to doing the step. One day I just went for and only took about three hours to do it . Once I started writing it like it just flowed out of me.
Thank you my resentments are murdering me , I did step 4 a while back but I guess I need to redo it. I am 11 and a half years sober and I do not have a sponsor, I joined AA about a year ago I hope I can get back on track.
Pray for people you resent that help.
Thanks I will try that I know you have to forgive in order to go forward.@@AnAlcoholFreeLife
Thank you from a recovering Alcholic that is struggling to do step 4. You were very helpful. Thank you.x
Keep it simple and go for it !
Thank you for your help it's exactly what my sponsor said to me so I know now for the 100 time hopefully tomorrow afternoon I'm going to have some writing done to bring her on Sunday .😊 Very much appreciated 👍
You got this!
Thanks so much. I’ll be. A m cor the rest of my steps
Hey Terry! Was sitting in my car just about to try and write my 4th step... Procrastinating as we do and figured I'd TH-cam a how to... And I was like "hey I recognize that face!" Thanks for the video! I'm going to go get writing.
Hey Mike
Small world 🌎, I found the hardest part of doing at 4th was taking getting started .I was I started just came to me .
Hope all is well:)
See you soon:)
This really helped me spin my step four!! Thank you !!
Go for it ;)
Great job. Very relatable and very clear. And very encouraging. Thank you!
Thanks Andy )
I need it simple

Simple and nice 😊 ❤ thank you!
Keeping it simple is much better:)
I'm doing my 4th and I appreciate the help!
Luv this!! Thanx for helping me understand
Thank you for making this video. It really helped. It’s almost 10pm here and I meet with my sponsor tomorrow to go over the rest of my 4th step. I Can say that i left the hardest for last. Again, thank you.
Thanx bro very helpful and love your upbeat attitude
Thanks Bubby :)
Thank you, Terry!
You are very welcome :)

Go for it ,and keep it simple :)
Thank you so much for the video! I too received a lot of papers and lists, it was so confusing. I will go to the Big Book and keep it simple. Thanks again.🌟
Lots of people get hung up on the way to do a 4th.I found it very overwhelming listening to everyone. I guy told me in a meeting, just do like in the big book.
3-31-24 Thank you for sharing. Tenra Wilson Bailey
Wow! Way to go! Keep going! I promise you, it gets better and better and better. Just keep going ❤️

Read the step 4 chapter yesterday at a meeting. I'm pretty new to this but it was a huge lightbulb moment.
Step 4 ,really open my eyes that maybe this AA stuff really works ;)
God speed.

You're very welcome.One day at a time :)

Thanku!!!!!
Just do the best you can and try not to overthink it 😉
Thankyou for this as it's been stressing me out🤯...now I will do it as the book says the simple way 🎯❤😫
I just kept it very simple. You can always go back and do another one.
Just do it !!
Good luck
@@AnAlcoholFreeLife thankyou 🙏
Nicely explained
Keep it simple 👌
It doesn’t show a subscribe button? Loved this video in step 4……it helped me a lot….
The subscription button is just below the video on the right side.
Thanks for watching 😀
I’m starting mine, I’m a new babe and I’ve a sponsor , who been sober longer than my age.😂. gd bls u
Keep an open mind .Just remember the fourth step is the beginning of your new life .
Thanx
You are very welcome :)
I’m 122 days sober, or 4 months! I attend AA, but am not working the “steps”. Especially step 5. I don’t trust my “sponcer”. Or anyone else in my AA group. The never ending negativity is wearing on me. The cynicism is terrible.
❤️☀️❤️☀️❤️☀️❤️
Just do it !
Good luck 👍
Working on this now. Been procrastinating…
We all have difficulty starting this step;)
He seems lovely me I had loads and fear based illness
I had the same.
There are 8 columns for step 4 resentments there is no worksheet in the Big Book, whoever made this did not read the Big Book. Step 4 instructions are clearly laid out.
Can you send the audio to my email pls
terryottawa@gmail.com
everyone has issues they have to deal with like this
i have 50 days clean and sober working my 4th step with a sponsor. I'm having trouble remembering and getting it on paper. any ideas or help please
Just write what can remember the rest will come to you. Sometimes we don't remember the things that happen in our past, backout, etc.Just do what you can and stay willing the rest will come
Yeah but how far back do we go? Before ur drinking? I can assure you my resentment with others before my drinking have nothing to do with it
Write ones down even before you drank .If you are still thinking about them, it's time to let them go :)
What about our part in it?
I was told that was the 4th column
I’ve spent so many days and hours in 4th and 5th step… why do I get no huge emotional relief? I feel like it’s pretty thorough and honest I get some relief but I’m not too moved
I too didn't get a big huge emotional relief after doing my 4th and 5th. I felt pretty low after doing my 5th. The real high came from doing step 8. The good stuff in sobriety can take some time. Everyone is one their own time schedule, Just take it a day at a time :)
@@AnAlcoholFreeLife Thats what I hear too.. I wish it were on my time, unfortunately, its not haa. Acceptance isnt always easy, but I do know its necessary Thanks, I appreciate it!
Could it be that you have already processed some of the work you are doing in step 4?
@@Turd_Eating_Dog yes i think i did process some of the work. I am also going very slow, new resentments come up between steps but think i just need to move forward and be honest
Because this well meaning guy has left off the turn around step - there is a 4th column where we look at our part in every resentment. The turnaround column… ‘turning to our list again where had we been selfish self seeking dishonest or frightened’ ‘ The inventory is OURS not the other mans’ This Dude means really well but its incomplete. You would get little effect without 4th column
When do we list our "character defects"? Which step?? The book doesn't talk about this yet we always hear this...
You can find your defects in your step four .
I wort a list of the seven deadly sins .I when through my step four and ask myself what deadly sin related to the situation that wort about .
My defects
Anger
Lust
Greed
Jealousy.
That's right:)
@@AnAlcoholFreeLife thanks!
🎉 thank you for your time 🎉
You are so welcome!
Why is this needed? I know what I have done and who I have hurt. This just seems over the top.
It will help you find your part in the past events. And it helps with your 8-9 steps.
I wore a hat and other outdoor clothes in my home and believed I was sane enough to tackle step 4.
Thanks, Jack
@@AnAlcoholFreeLifeI love hats and wear them everywhere.
There are 8 columns for step 4 resentments there is no worksheet and more than just 4 columns in the Big Book, whoever made this did not read the Big Book. Step 4 instructions are clearly laid out.
I think its three columns
3 Columns
@@marknicholson4523 so they stay a victim…good job.
AA Marc R explain how?
Bob D said something to the effect of if you just do the 1st 3 columns, you will get sicker. You just victimized yourself. All you did was build a case of how the people you're resentful against "screwed you." He is right that simplifying things and working out of the Big Book...but, what is your part in all of this is major... and this is just being glossed over
There are no alcoholics, there are only people who take alcohol when they should be taking an SSRI
Not sure about that ?
This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. Clearly you’re not an alcoholic.
@MCTominator
If that were truly the case, then every alcoholic who took an SSRI would be “cured” of alcoholism. Please don’t spread harmful misinformation like that- it could cost someone their life.
You resented people you stole from?
No, I don't .
Thanks/ appreciate you
You're welcome!
I really f’d up
Is there anyone you ask to help you ?
How much are you drinking ?
Ty for the video.
Yes i Need to get into action
And just do it🙏
Just go for it !!
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you.
