      Yeah, I have definitely called myself out on this exact thing before. But it is still hard! It is hard to look back (especially to times when I was ignorant or not in control of the situation) and realize that I will never be able to have what I missed out on.

      I find I like to make things or buy keepsakes to remember things I used to do. Now that's not some new revelation or anything, but what I have found is that when I make something that reminds me of a fun adventure I went on, or buy a keepsake or something, it helps me kind of keep that memory ANCHORED in reality and not some rose-colored glasses version of what really happened.
      I have a large collection of these keepsakes, and it always makes me smile remembering some dumb thing I used to do with friends or some adventure I took off somewhere. And always fondly. Never wishing I could go back and do it again.
      I think somehow the keepsakes help me not pine for a time when I was younger and or wish I had done something differently, like I missed out.

    Honestly as a woman who wants to have children soon it’s so nice to see representation of motherhood from a TH-camr that isn’t just family vlogging (ugh) or weird stereotypical bullcrap that reduces women who are mothers to just…well, only motherhood. The messaging seems to be you can either be fun and cool and childless, or a non-person blob of Motherhood (TM). So seeing someone as cool as you becoming a mom and rejecting that narrative is super validating. (In other words thanks for just being you lol.)

    • @olliefoxx7165
      @olliefoxx7165 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Motherhood is pretty important. You become the most important person in the world to your child. The media has spent decades trashing motherhood to young women and its worked. I'm glad there are still women out there that want to be moms, I just wish there were more independent minded women out there that didn't let the media think for them.

      @@olliefoxx7165 I am the oldest of five children and a child and family therapist. I did not need the media to tell me that having a child comes with significant downsides that IF ANYTHING are downplayed by friends, family and social media as well. That doesn't mean that it doesn't have its upsides, but my experience is that motherhood is glorified in our culture to an extent that greatly overshadows any woman who dares to critically examine the impact of motherhood on women.

    • @ejtattersall156
      @ejtattersall156 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, the media and major segments of feminism are constantly telling us that motherhood is what a woman does when she fails at everything else. They push the rewards of careers, but traditionally only men had careers...and only men had a midlife crisis. A midlife crisis is the realization that no matter what your career is, at some point, someone is going to put all of your accomplishments in a box and ask you to have a nice retirement. You are replaceable. Your mother is your mother forever. Nobody hands their mother a box and says, okay, you are done, here, have a nice retirement.

      If you haven't followed them you might like Connor and Liana. I think that's how you spell it. They just had a baby but I wouldn't call them family bloggers. They're currently building out a van so they can travel with their baby.
      Also Jessica Kellgren-Fozard. She's a deff lesbian disability activist and they had baby about a year ago. Maybe a bit of a different perspective on motherhood altogether as there's two moms.
      I guess I recommend these to you because they're both very honest with her feelings and their struggles but haven't lost the original intent of their channel, which is overwhelmingly positive. Basically great moms who love being mom's but that's not their whole life.

      Wise decision! Three Decades of Hell
      The future goes something like this. The next 3 to 5 decades are going to be apocalyptic. Beyond everyone's comprehension. Corona-panic will seem like a birthday party.
      The 2030s will be the decade climate change gives us a really good smack to the head. Floods and fires will be non-stop. Cities will flood, countries will drown, crops washed away and whole regions go up in smoke. Heat domes will turn crowded cities into concrete crispy crematoriums. As a result economies will crash, jobs will be lost, just in time supply chains will be distant memory. Societies social cohesion will implode into dystopian regimes the way America, UK and other "democratic lol" nations are already experiencing.
      The 2040s will be the decade when mass extinction gets real. Coral reefs and all the life dependent on them Gone!. There will be far far more plastic in the oceans than fish.. Hundreds of millions of peoples primary food sources Gone. Having ripped the bottom out of nature’s great chains, they will topple over, and collapse in on themselves. Who’s going to turn the soil when the insects are gone? Who’s going to clean the rivers when the fish have vanished? Who’s going to nurture the forests when the bees disappear? Bang! In the blink of an eye, even bigger collapses begin to happen. Our systems of civilization begin to fail, catastrophically. Whole economies. Whole industries. Whole sectors. Entire regions. The things we take for granted now food chains, water tables, air to breathe, soil to plant crops in, harvests to till, raw materials to extract and deplete will all begin to simply disappear. 400+ nuclear power plants will start to meltdown as they won't be able to be cooled down anymore and the people capable of servicing them lost to the economic collapse. Cities will be abandoned and massive migration (attempts) will be forced upon all nations. Brutality and cruelty will be the new legal systems.
      The 2050s the Final Goodbye. The planetary biosphere will transition into a phase not seen in many many millions of years. Hothouse earth. Glaciers and their rivers will have vanished replaced by horrific run-offs of super storm driven events that sweep the toxic landscape into the already pollution saturated oceans. Jellyfish, and cockroaches will be the main species left. Nothing will be able to evolve fast enough

    Julie (and, I suppose, anyone else in the same situation): You *were* cool before. Now you're cool AND building a human - that's *actually* cool. Your relevance doesn't fade, it just shifts: Now you can do parenting jokes (a bloody goldmine of material). Can't wait for you and Mirror Julie to swap parenting tips! In the meantime, remember: your sense of humour was directly responsible for getting you where you are today (in all respects), and it will continue to be one of your biggest strengths. Play to it, and we'll all keep lapping it up like the suckers we are 😂 A few pointers...
    - Don't do coke off toilet seats, too many germs
    - Keep laughing at boring people: if they're smart, they'll thank you for the humour (thanks, by the way), if not, they're too dull for you to worry about.
    - Yes. You still got it.
    - Mirror Julie *will* steal your secret "mummy's happy grape juice" stash. Hide it well
    You'll be fine. You looked after all of us during lockdown(s), one more babbling, confused human is nothing (at least this one won't be able to type comments for a few years!).
    Thank you for the laughs, and good luck with everything

I have a whole world of thoughts and multiple hobbies that don't include my kids. And I make time for them and my wonderful partner in life makes sure I get me time to be creative and vlog and podcast and cut up cereal boxes and glue random collages on them because it makes me happy and I can be just me. I love my kids of course. But I'll never be one of those moms that watches their kids sleep. I got stuff to do! I also identify with the "have never been sexy" thing. Of course Julie is a whole snack but mirror Julie is a lot harsher of a critic than I am.

      I'm glad you picked up on that motto, it's incredibly true. You can be full of confidence one day and feeling irrelevant the next, with zero confidence your peers think you're cool (whatever that means) and then feeling super the next week, thinking you've figured out your problems (ha). It's not being a teenager, it's being anyone older than a child and younger than dead. It can be tougher as a teen cause you're not used to it (and yeah, the hormones) but it comes with growing up. But don't misread me, the ups are always a lot more than the downs, there's a lot of fun to be had.
      Also: If life gives you lemons - get used to it, life has *lots* of lemons.

    Hotness tends to wane with age, but beauty can last well into old age. Also one can be fun before and after becoming a mom (or dad). When you have kids, one tends to care more for your children than one cares for whether random people want to have children with you. That's a kind of vanity we should probably put aside anyway. I think we should focus on whether we're the kind of people others love to have around... not because we're attractive, but because we're good friends and parents.

    Yeah... eventually you get to a place where you can (almost) go back to what it was like before. Parenting is the awesomest, bestest thing I ever did, but it owns your life. Just remember, tho' - you only get 18 summers with the kid. You only get 13 "first day of school" days. One "first step"; one "first word". Enjoy them! Spend your brief time with your kid intentionally. Say "yes" to "will you play with me?" Remember that _literally_ every thing you do and say, your kid sees and hears, and it shapes the rest of their life. You won't be perfect, but at least be mindful. 💙

    You can do most of the same things you're doing now with your child in-tow! After giving birth and dealing with major PPD, it helped me A LOT to just get out and do what I wanted to do, with my baby along for the ride. Just leaving the house helped a ton. And then as your kid gets older, you get to start going to lots of fun playplaces and relive your childhood through them and it's a really beautiful experience. I know people who decided that they had to stop living their lives and stay in the house all the time as soon as their baby was born because they had to put their baby on such a strict schedule. They are not doing well mentally. Leave the house, do what you enjoy, and talk to a doctor if you get PPD. Sending lots of love your way! I know you're gonna do great, even if it feels hard for awhile!
