Such an underrated fish! The males are beautiful in coloration, but the females are still active and with good patterning. Thanks for the great video!

Fantastic video... Odessa Barbs are my favourite fish and I would love to breed them as they are not readily available where I live and are expensive too. I Currently have 12 of them in my heavily planted 350 litre/ 92 US Gal tank.

What is your opinion of using vinegar eels instead of micro worms? Nice video btw planning to breed cherry barbs

Awesome advice and breeding tutorial Sir. 👏👏👏👏
    Thank you for sharing.
    I've a few questions.
    1. Can you feed them microworms cultures from day 1?
    2. Can Vinegar eels also be used?
    3. You mentioned that you can feed microworm once daily and is that's sufficient to grow them up quickly? A single daily feeding routine?
    4. Can you explain more on water parameters prior to breeding them and what's water maintenance regimes once you get fry?
    5. What's the dimensions of your breeding tank?
    6. How long did you cycle the breeding tank before adding the parents?
    Thank you in advance.
Keep up the great work and hope to see updates on growth of the Odessa barbs. Best of luck👍

Yes vinegar eels will work but they are a pain to harvest. Yes they will eat the micro worms all day just switch to baby brine shrimp when they are large enough. Yes feed from day 1. Breeding yank size o use is 5g.since they are in there only one day it does not need to cycle but I would use a cycled sponge

      Thank you Sir for reply.
Can you share at what age or size should you start doing water changes anx how much should be replaced weekly with the fry?

Can Odessa Barbs crossbreed with other barbs, for instance Black Ruby Barbs? I'd like to keep my Black Rubys in the same tank as my Odessas if I can, but I don't want them crossbreeding.

Hey Jason, how long does the micro worm culture last? I’ve heard a few things and wanted to get your take.

    • @CrowntailHalfmoon
      @CrowntailHalfmoon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi TJ,
I've had microworms cultures since 2017. They are fairly easy to keep once you understand requirements and signs when you need to restart a new colony. KEEP Multiple cultures going simultaneously as it can crash especially when now starting.
I've had same culture repopulating for many year so it potentially can last very long. I don't use the normal oats medium becz it's an additional cost, takes effort to make and smells awful when the colony goes bad.. I use regular slice bread white or whole wheat just soak in some chlorine free water. (I've never tried tap water with dechlorinator but just allow water to aged then use. ) I soak it for about 30secs then squeeze out most of water. You want it only damp not soggy. Add you starter culture on top and sprinkle a few pinches of yeast. Just so it covers most of the bread.. Depending on how many microworms you start with it takes about 4 to 7 days to see them crawling up sides. I keep them in fish room which has approximately avg 27 degree. If it get too cold they slow down in reproduction etc. Just remember to put them in a container that's breathable but also prevents bugs from entering. Like the 16 or 32oz containers that's used to culture wingless fruit fly but any container can be used once you use coffee filters to cover the holes. With the bread medium it get liquidy fast so i add more bread slices to absorb excess liquid when that happens and add pinch of yeast.Sorry for long reply. Hope this helps...
