Thank God no one was killed. and at the time “touching each lug nut was not required” and as a group we voted “non preventable”. Safety got upset and said. Ok! From now on our PTI guidelines will include touching lug nuts
I'll go to onboarding on 20 May. One thing that stuck out big time is in the uncoupling section. According to WM I should release the kingpin and slowly pull forward until the tractor is "well clear" of the trailer. I hope I don't get gigged for it but I'll pull out until the trailer is clear of the fifth will but the trailer apron is still over the frame. I'll set my parking brake and get out to make a last check that 1) all my lines are clear, and 2) the trailer is indeed resting on the ground with no sinking or leaning. I never dropped a loaded dry van but have dropped an unlaiden container chassis coz I took a phone call from dispatch while disconnecting and got out of rhythm . It was hard enough in the Texas heat to crank back up and fortunately it was in the back of a rail yard You only have to make that mistake once to learn to get out and double check that all is well every time you disconnect. Another thing is why would anyone leave 1~2 inches of clearance between the ground and the landing gear plate when uncoupling? Especially a loaded trailers? it's hard on all of the equipment and especially the landing gear. The only reason I can think of is that WM tractors cannot raise airbags but only lower them. If that's the case, i would still much rather lower a loaded trailer than try to raise it.
@@Ken-rq3yl I teach all of my trainees to leave a couple of inches between landing gear and ground and it's what I was taught when doing Costco loads back in the day. It prevents the landing gear from getting glued to the ground from the tension of connecting to the fifth wheel/king pin when a truck backs up to it. This makes it much easier to crank up and it isn't hard on the truck or trailer at all as long as you drop your airbags after you pull the king pin, and subsequently raise them if a trailer is lower than it should be when picking up.
If you have a CDL you should already know how to pre-trip and back/drive. They've tanked their once legendary high standards. They won't even take back former drivers who went out LOA for more than a year, drivers with YEARS of experience both driving in general and having driven FOR Walmart for years! This is sad.
Informative video. Thanks for posting. Just curious- what percentage of drivers fail the on boarding process? I have 25 years of safe driving (no accident/tickets) with 1 company and was thinking about applying at Wal-Mart, but nervous about passing the test.

Just an observation. They didn’t double print any pages on that pamphlet you had. Both times you said they were showing the same thing you never turned the page and just flipped the entire thing over again. You got distracted my friend. Seems you may be a disgruntled ex employee. Watch the video again and you’ll see your mistake.
5th wheel bolt is on front of 5th wheel. If out it’s not lock. And trailer pins are out you can not slide tandems 2 on each side. I showed on another video
Walmart accident revue is a joke I never had a accident in the 22 years I was there but Walmart loves to blame the drivers so they have something on the drivers I knew a driver that a car ran a stop signal hit him but not hard the car skidded and barely got him but they found it was the drivers fault because he left the gate 15 minutes after his gate time they said if he left on time he wouldn't have been there to get hit ,he was late because there was 6 trucks inline at the gate they said no excuse there a joke..
@Ralph’s Trucking makes sense. That's all I have experience with due to so many companies switching. Other Walmart drivers told me to be prepared to take the test in a manual but I guess Walmart decided to change to automatic as well. Thanks very much!
Keep in mind even if you do everything right . They will make something up if they don't like you. Remember to kiss those butts , do the walmart cheer with a smile and laugh at all the corny jokes or bye bye buddy.
Hey brother! Appreciate the video. Question... What percentage of the PreTrip you need to get correct to pass? Also, is the PreTrip done in sections for 3 days or its a full PreTrip 1 time a day for 3 days?
I’ve an owner operator for 18 year and I do my pre trip but not in detail just really quick so I need to study that. I might go for Costco they are not that picky 😂

Tyson has been good. Some downs but mainly ups. I like having more home time then 34 hour and out the door what I had a Ashley. Yes I’m out more but it’s my choice now.

Depends what you want. Some love Walmart others do not like the share trucks and policies.

You miss the critical ones you fail. Which all lug nuts 10 per wheel have to try to turn , 5 th wheel and trailer pins. And timed

Nope cause I didn’t stop at green light and let it go yellow , red back to green to right. After hearing about policy I would not taken job.

The backing is supposed to be same at every dc. They use tape to make sure. And times on each they are strict on. And can’t miss much on pre trip.
