Adam was doin the High notes in the background, if ya watch Adam near the end of the video ya can see him hit those high notes while Austin was singing
I don't always understand all of your analysis, but there is always some part or technique you highlight that makes me appreciate the music so much more.
What a fantastic cover, the guys did a great job again. And Adam is just out of this world, phenomenal vocal percussion. Home Free is also masters at not bastardizing a song and still putting their own stamp on it.
I knew you would have fun with this one when I previewed it early from Home Free's Patreon early access! I crank this one up in my Ram1500 on the way home from work! Thank again for sharing your gifts ❤️
Right? Home Free reviews from Peter are usually more about the singing, but I was really looking forward to this review when I could hear how much they'd adjusted the arrangement.
This is simply excellent again!! I have been a fan of the Doobie Brothers for a long time. This song is just timeless. It still swings. Really something for Home Free. So great sung, so great harmonies, bone-feeling bass, But for me it's Adam who makes it truly phenomenal. He nailed it. The vocal percussion is just inhumane. So unbelievably good. For me the very best beatboxer/vocal percussionist/mouth artist there is.And the vocal he plays like that high note, I think it shows that he must have a great singing voice And I haven't even mentioned his appearance yet. He's so handsome. I do like that he has his hair a bit longer again and then with that bandana on.🥰 I love it, I love Home Free💖
Hi, I am not musical at all but I love your comments / analysis. Everything you say helps me understand what is happening with the music of Home Free and others. I really love their music and covers that they present. I'm 76 years old and I appreciate the "oldies" they sing! Thank you for simplifying the intricacies of music 🎶
Peter remember Chance can take a lower note with Chance on that intro, so it's probably coming from Chance. Peter the original; came out in the Summer of 1972. This has in short term, become a top 5 Home Free cover....how can you not chair-dance to this....its such a bop 7 feel good song
Love this song! The original Doobie Brothers was so great, a real feel good song, as you said. But Home Free's cover makes it uniquely their own! Austin is brilliant, as is Adam - vocal percussionist extraordinaire! I've already watched the video several times but it never gets old! Thanks Peter! Another great reaction and analysis!
Totally Awesome!!! They put their minds to it they simply can sing anything and do it exceptionally well. They cannot be boxed in as a Country vocal group, they bring it to each genre they pursue............ Go Home Free!!!!!!!!!!!!!😎
It came out in 1972, the summer I got my driver's license. Talk about your formative years. That effect you talk about reminds me of something old Bluegrass performers used to do by running a pick down the teeth of a metal comb. Also, I believe Adam Rupp is doing most if not all of those high-note fillers - you can see him singing the high part in the slow bridge.
17:30 it almost sounds like a flanger on Austin's voice, which at the right settings would account for both the hi-cut filtering of his voice and the "shifting" or "bouncing" effect. A lot of the EQ effects they're doing does sound like they're trying to be somewhat reminiscent of AM radio as well.
You’re the first reactor to mention the echo effect that pans back and forth in the second chorus. I’ve been waiting on someone to comment on that and you’re the first to do so…bravo!!
This is one of my favorite groovy songs too. Even more exciting is the fact that is video has been posted for 6 minutes and already has 68 views! I'm very excited for you, Peter, Getting some TH-cam traction!🤩
This is such a feel good song, I still hope that you do a reaction to Tims solo video "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay" i've never seen a bass react to it.
Thanks for your analysis. I grew up on classic rock & am a big fan of the Doobie Brothers & had their albums. "Listen To The Music" was a big hit for them back in 1972. Love that Home Free is keeping this great music alive & introducing it to the younger generation. The guys did a really nice job of this song. Austin was great for the lead & loved the background harmonies of Rob, Chance & Tim's bass. Adam killed it on the vocal percussion again. He always comes up with some new & interesting sounds. Adam is doing the high notes as you can see in the slowed down section.
The original is also one of my all-time favourite songs... and holy schnitzel, these guys just BLEW MY MIND!! ...I think I like this version even better! WOW! Fantastic! I've just recently discovered your channel (via your reaction to Voces 8's Sleep) and I'm loving it! Your break-downs and analysis are very interesting and it's hard to explain but there's something heartening about watching somebody else internalise good music the way I do, and being moved or excited in the same moments.
Hey Peter! I really love watching your reactions. I have a great ear for music, but I don't have a lot of knowledge or understanding of the mechanics. Adding that knowledge to the music while listening later makes me appreciate the songs so much more! I don't know if you have it in your schedule, but I'd love to hear your take on Home Free's version of The Driver. I'm no professional, but to me the sound in that performance is something special. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and humor!!
Great reaction, Peter! But you didn't mention the fact that the lead went to Rob on the chorus, then back to Austin for the verses. Love all of their voices!
Chance is a baritone who can also carry the bass line. I don't know if they are doing it here, but they sometimes sing together or switch depending on the sound they are trying for.
Um… more beat boxing from you please! Loved what you had to say and yes, enjoyed that it was slightly different from the original! It really could be anything when you hear the beginning. Great comments😁
Ica always love your technical analysis of every song, but your love of this song rings through. These young men are simply stelar as are you. Thank you for reacting to this amazing Doobie Brothers classic. Live Home Free. Love YOU. I enjoy your patreon posts. Totally worth my small contribution to your career. I know some day I will be able to say 'I knew him when' because you have 'stardom' written all over you.
No crazy super-low first octave bass from Tim, and yet it still sounds so solid and full. People are quick to dismiss anything that isn’t lower than an A1, but a great bass voice on a powerful, resonant G2 - C2 can go a long way to laying a solid foundation. Nice react! Can’t wait for the upcoming Bass Gang content!
They just dropped a very unusual video on 29th July 2022. They seem to be releasing something every other week. I wonder if anyone has reacted to all 200+ of Home Free's songs.
Well, Peter, good morning! Love your singing and your analysis style. Just woke up and here you are, doing your beautiful thing you do. Loved this song in the 70's and it hasn't missed a beat since. You certainly appreciate my era and I appreciate your gifts. Unfortunately, that is all I can do....like, subscribe, and comment....but you have them. And The Bass Gang, as well. Waiting for YOUR next release. I'm about to wear out Yellow Flicker Best (song and your video analysis).
this month is the 50th anniversary of the Doobie Brothers release of Listen to the Music in July 1972 - so effortless for Austin - thanks for the analysis PB
I always learn so much from your analyses. I sang with choruses or as a soloist for many years, but my technical knowledge is sadly lacking. You always help me to really appreciate the various techniques used in both the video production and the vocal effects. I really liked this song, and especially Austin's lead.
Thanks for a surprisingly diverse number of uses for trekking poles. One idea that came to me as you were passing the cornfield was to tape a small (e.g., shaving) mirror at a 45 degree angle from the outer edge of the snow guard to the pole. By raising it up you can use it as a simple periscope to look over obstacles. You could also use that to signal others by shining a flashlight on the mirror as it points in the desired direction.
I think the slow intro at least my interpretation reflects the lyrics just as the song starts "Don't you feel it growing" the tempo picks up it is growing to the pace the song becomes both beat and exciting threshold that grabs your attention.... PB - enjoyed your analysis like always...... 🎶
So when they've got doo doos and harmonies, I don't have a good enough ear to see if that's what they're doing here, but live they have a loop station, Adam is it's master, and it gets a lot of use. Tim has a funny intro about how he doesn't get to use it, just Adam, Rob, and Austin.
This song is 50 years old! And the Doobie Brothers had four singer/guitarists and two percussionists. I figure that's a LOT of sound for the Home Free boys to fill in!
Thanks for the great reaction. Love listening to your content, (and your vioce!) Lots of interesting info. Glad you appreciate these guys as much as I do 💫
Watching your reaction (again) and that sound Adam makes is a Beistle (I think). It's an old time metal noisemaker with a handle and when you spin it makes a ratchet sound. We had those when I was in grade school. The music teacher used them to teach us to keep time and together on a song. It was actually pretty cool.
I think the term you're looking for with Adam's sfx (and I could be wrong) is a "flutter tongue." It's like a rolled Spanish "rr," but without trying to say a letter. I'm a clarinet player, and I sometimes had to do that with modern nontonal music (which is funny, because my clarinet professor couldn't do it).
Love your analysis! By the way, I can make that weird Adam noise he did near the beginning & I'm a "mature" woman!😊 It's kind of the way I used to do my Donald Duck voice between my back teeth & cheek! The Doobie Brothers' version was released in 1972 so this is a 50th anniversary release. I grew up loving the Doobies but Home Free did it as great or better WITHOUT instruments! 🎶 This video has made me happy 50+ times since they released it!😊 They're all incredible but Adam is an alien!👽🎶
Thanks, Peter, for a lovely, in-depth reaction. I appreciate your insights. In his article on understanding subharmonic bass, Rex Trulove said, "A subharmonic bass is a method of singing much lower than your normal vocal range." Rex went on to say, "I’ve shared several videos of someone who has mastered the technique, though; Tim Foust. It is subharmonic singing that allows him to hit the really, really low notes." If you're interested, Range Planet has Tim's range as B0-A5. I have seen videos, however, where he's been "clocked" as low as G0. Is there a negative scale, too?
I truly wish I could support you! My disability pay just has no wiggle room. I do absolutely love learning from your breakdowns though! I listen to all music so differently, there are so many things I never heard before. Please keep up the beautiful gift of knowledge you give us all!
Such a great rendition of the classic song. Adam killed it. He was insanely good. I wondered too if Adam was contributing or adding onto Tim’s bass too? Maybe? But loved those low notes. It was so much fun. Good analysis Peter!😍
This one is just so fun, I can’t help but smiling so much whenever I listen to it! 😁 I’m happy you checked it out. I also enjoy Adam’s many unique sound effects. Cannot wait for the next Bass Gang track! 🥰
I think that sound that Adam was making that you couldn't really describe can almost be thought of as 'rotary', as in an old fashion (like what I grew up with until push buttons took over) rotary phone.

I do enjoy how you pick apart a song, especially after I’ve heard it a couple of times. Thanks for your analysis!
Tim is doing subharmonic while chance is bouncing from regular bass to baritone. Rob is singing lead in the chorus Austin on the verses & bridge. They're all throwing notes all over the place! 🤪 Crazy Good! BTW - The "do-doos" are all the way thru the original. And the way they are giving the voices that kinda wavy sound is the way Dobie Brothers sang/recorded it. Kind of a dream or "high" feeling sound. Dobie wasn't their real names, I'm sure you know. But they came by it honestly. 😉
As always great reaction. This was from 1972. I have always loved this song Home Free did a great job. How about a reaction to Tim Foust's version of Will You Love Me Tomorrow/ Stay or maybe American Pie with Don Mclean.
This is such an amazing cover and ur right it does have a stranger things vibe in there. And now, I must say, I am always impressed by ur musical knowledge, BUT u always seem to impress me the more I watch. In this video from 17:40 to 19:40 has SOO much extra that people would never know. I absolutely love how each week there's just more and more musical analysis and things I've never heard of
There could be some stacking in there, though I think Tim has been known to be able to do subharmonics as well. I believe there are some fan videos online that show him doing so live.
Adam was doin the High notes in the background, if ya watch Adam near the end of the video ya can see him hit those high notes while Austin was singing
I don't always understand all of your analysis, but there is always some part or technique you highlight that makes me appreciate the music so much more.
I imagine Adam as a toddler who runs in to his room, and excitedly starts throwing things from his toybox so you can enjoy them with him...
Have you seen the tour of his D&D basement on Home Free's channel?
What a fantastic cover, the guys did a great job again. And Adam is just out of this world, phenomenal vocal percussion. Home Free is also masters at not bastardizing a song and still putting their own stamp on it.
I always learn something new.

Good R&A Peter! Didn't know the song is that old. Thanks for teasing us about a new song by the Bass Gang!
They just never miss. Talented
I always learn so much from your analysis. This is my favorite song to boogie to while doing housework.
Hi, I am not musical at all but I love your comments / analysis. Everything you say helps me understand what is happening with the music of Home Free and others. Let the music play! Home Free is just the best❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️

Great tune! Well done by the guys!
Love your insight and knowledge that comes out in your analysis!
You are definitely one of my favorite reactors on TH-cam! Absolutely love your analysis and appreciate your input!

70's groove! Perfect cover for HF, lot of fun perfection! HF happiness! Blessings all!
Always enjoy your reaction/analysis when they come out. Love your explanation about the beatbox sounds, always learn something new.
This is one of my favorite groovy songs too. Even more exciting is the fact that is video has been posted for 6 minutes and already has 68 views! I'm very excited for you, Peter, Getting some TH-cam traction!🤩

Still waiting for your reaction to Tim Foust's "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow / Stay". You will find it very interesting.
"Listen to the Music" was released in 1972, their first big hit of that year.
Peter, if you haven't heard it yet, you might enjoy Chance hitting the low notes in their cover of "Mayday". And Tim singing high. 👍
The original is also one of my all-time favourite songs... and holy schnitzel, these guys just BLEW MY MIND!! ...I think I like this version even better! WOW! Fantastic!

Tim Fouste has a magnificent five octave range. Most people do not realize the bass makes the baritone and tenor look good.💗💗
Hey Peter! I really love watching your reactions. I have a great ear for music, but I don't have a lot of knowledge or understanding of the mechanics. It is cool to see you just get into a song. Can totally see what you grew up listening to. 🎶 😎
You are doing pretty well with your beatboxing there, sir…. Enjoyed your reaction!
Great reaction, Peter! But you didn't mention the fact that the lead went to Rob on the chorus, then back to Austin for the verses. Love all of their voices!
That's because the 80's rock!
Thanks so much for this analysis, you really opened my eyes and ears this time. I enjoyed this, of course I Love anything Home Free does !!
Chance is a baritone who can also carry the bass line. I don't know if they are doing it here, but they sometimes sing together or switch depending on the sound they are trying for.
Absolutely love the fun and good time feel of this song. Even my 15 yr old daughter loves it!
Um… more beat boxing from you please! Loved what you had to say and yes, enjoyed that it was slightly different from the original! It really could be anything when you hear the beginning. Great comments😁
I think they all had fun doing this song. Love it.

Like your reaction ☺️. Love it when you sing as well as your enthusiasm.
This is my favorite so far! How they keep getting better boggles my mind but they do!
No crazy super-low first octave bass from Tim, and yet it still sounds so solid and full. Love your reactions also just love your talking voice. Thanks for all the details and explanations of what i am hearing but can't figure out. Cheers

That special panning thing is someone ( Austin) imitating Pat Simmon’s banjo playing on the original record.
this month is the 50th anniversary of the Doobie Brothers release of Listen to the Music in July 1972 - so effortless for Austin - thanks for the analysis PB
I was almost 5 (August) back then.
Great evaluation and reaction
Doobie Brothers- Released July 19, 1972 when I was 12.
Питер, Вас очень интересно слушать, спасибо за анализ.

Austin being all comfortable in the attic of his range lol - Love your analysis of these songs. :)

thanks so much for reacting & analyzing home frees stuff! (as well as "the bass gang" 's stuff)
Love your analysis- I learned so much and your beat boxing is pretty Damn good!

Great Analysis! Enjoy your reactions!
12:54 "Listen to the Music" was released in 1972.
Love all of your analysis videos!
Such a great rendition of the classic song. Adam killed it. He was insanely good. I wondered too if Adam was contributing or adding onto Tim’s bass too? Maybe? But loved those low notes. It was so much fun. Good analysis Peter!😍
Learning a lot
This one is just so fun, I can’t help but smiling so much whenever I listen to it! 😁 I’m happy you checked it out. I also enjoy Adam’s many unique sound effects. Cannot wait for the next Bass Gang track! 🥰
Peter has watched a lot of your analysis/reaction posts of HF. Finally subbing as a devoted Home Fry!!!
Adam is actually doing those high slides.
I skated to the original in the early 70s, taking me back to the roller rink 😜
HomeFree!
This song is 🔥
That sound Adam was making sounds like a washerboard being stroked with a stick (washerboard effect).
I think that sound that Adam was making that you couldn't really describe can almost be thought of as 'rotary', as in an old fashion (like what I grew up with until push buttons took over) rotary phone.
It’s a techno-modern version of the original. I never heard any of these sounds back in the 70’s! I find it to be a really fun arrangement of this song. They really did a great job with the editing. I do enjoy how you pick apart a song, especially after I’ve heard it a couple of times. Thanks for your analysis!
When I hear the clicking sound Adam makes it reminds me of the fish in high school band.
I enjoyed this. Thank you ^_^
As always great reaction. This was from 1972. I have always loved this song Home Free did a great job. How about a reaction to Tim Foust's version of Will You Love Me Tomorrow/ Stay or maybe American Pie with Don Mclean.
That note at the breakdown I believe was a growl note slide
Tim did a subharmonic in VP video Just Sing
Kudos to all the guys but WHOA Adam!!!!! Adam is blowing me away HOME FREE did a great job of modernizing this 1972 DOOBIE BROTHERS classic song.

I used to sing opera a long time ago. Developed vocal nodules n lost my range, hey, it happens. Love ur analysis. True music aficionado. Ty, sir.
It’s happening all at once, because it’s a party!
Could you give us a technical reaction to Austin Brown (Home Free) singing Bring Him Home?
Nice work!
