It was the first time Tim's higher range outside of bass was shown and Chance's bass. That's why it was so shocking at the time. Now of course we are all used to Tim's amazing range.
Yep, this used to be pointed to for the shock factor - not so shocking anymore but still so good :)
Can't believe Peter hasn't seen this one yet. It's a wonderful surprise in many ways. Not just because of Tim being ... well ... Tim, but it's wonderful for so many other reasons. Looking forward to this.

This entire thing was cool. The surprises abounded, from Tim's upper range, to Rupp's killer perc, to Chance's "Surprise! I iz bass!" This is one that the fans request new reactors to wait on, and for good reason. One doesn't understand just how great it is until they get to know the voices involved.

I believe they sing this in the same key as the original by Cam.

Same key and same octave. The temptation fora male group would be to drop an octave, but the boys sang the same notes as the original alto.
Yeah, Rob's voice is butter, Tim's voice is freakily ranged, and Austin's voice is just... "what top range?" Adam Chance has great vocal ability in general, good bass, good tenor, great lead. Adam Rupp is a robot and I refuse to believe otherwise.
Until Adam sings a beautiful high harmony (not in this one, but others like “How Great Thou Art” and “Helplessly Hoping.”
Glad to finally see your analysis. You explain everything wonderfully so even non musical folks like me can understand the complexity of their beautiful artistry.
I’ve been waiting for you to do this one. The vocal versatility from Tim and Chance is unreal. I love how they trade off baritone and bass.
LOL Usually people react to this BEFORE they've actually performed with Tim ;) Since you're already familiar with his range, he really flexes it in his solo cover "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay".

They all did a fantastic job with this song right from Tim at the beginning with his unearthly high notes, Chance singing incredibly low, Rob nailing his solo with his awesome voice, Austin singing those amazing high notes & of course Adam with his beat boxing!! Great song!
and to imagine that Tim only for a single note slipped into head voice, the rest is just in his chest voice... (he said this himself back when the video came out)...
@@kop-uv2dx Yessss!!!! And Tim sings a lot more in his chest voice than people realize, even in tenor range. That’s just what I’ve noticed, but I’m only an amateur vocalist.
This song didn’t shock me. I heard Tim’s original snow globe where Tim and Adam Chance show their ranges. My favorite tenor Adam has the largest range in the band. His solos are phenomenal! 🤯🤯

I always learn from your breakdowns, Peter.
When this came out, we had heard a little of Tim's high register and we knew Chance had sung bass with Street Corner Symphony, but this one really showed that they had these ranges without strain. Nowadays, I find this most noteworthy for the arrangement and Adam going full drum set.
This is my favorite reaction I have seen for this video.💐💐 You always amaze me with your analysis. You never fail to hear things that others haven't commented on. I also love how you break down Adam's beat boxing. Thanks for your time and thoughts. ✌
When Home Free performed it live, yes, they did the step choreo- and they did a beat box section where they all were beat boxing. It was so cool!

I agree, I wasn't expecting Tim to start this song off, and certainly not in his higher register. Love when Austin comes in, so crystal clear and sharp. Rob's voice is so warm, easy and honest. Austin's bridge sounds so urgent and almost desperate. You feel the emotions. Then Chance comes in with his lower register and blows' the whole thing out of the water ( pun intended)😅😅. They really switched up the parts in this song, kinda' confused some of us. This is one of my favorites. thanks you , Peter for analyzing this one for us. i follow your channel quite a bit and love your professional take on these songs.
Tim, Robb, and Austin all sang this in the same range as the original artist did. When it first came out, it was a lovely surprise because we'd mostly only heard Tim in his bass/baritone range. So this tenor lead was a bit of a shock. I don't *think* we'd heard his falsetto yet, either.
I have to say that one of my favourite surprises from Tim was he and Austin doing My Maria on Austin's channel.
Not only a display of Tim's incredible range but also that Chance is a bass.
Austin's runs are always *so good*!! I love listening for how he plays with it when he sings lead. I really admire his talent and the amount of practice I know he's likely put into his vocal technique. I'm wanting to practice more myself, just been too afraid to sound bad 😅 anywho, love your videos and your analysis! Hugs and love from California!

That was fun. The old switcheroo (which at the time, we hadn’t heard the higher register from Tim) for Tim and Chance. Of course Chance can sing bass but we didn’t know much about that at the time. Good song. Loved it. It really helps Home Free to have 2 basses as it allows Tim to go high now and then and Chance can cover the bass. Fun one Peter!🥰😃

So cool to hear a bass singer singing alkng with Tim up in the rafters.
This song is one of my favorites. Love seeing the switch ups in the voices. Tim can sing in a beautiful higher tenor voice along with Austin & Rob. And Chance can hit the lower bass notes when needed. And Adam did a fabulous job as always with his vocal percussion. This song is sung by a woman Cam, so they sung it in a higher key to match the original.

Yes, a song with surprises. Tim who goes tenor, Austin and Rob who also hit different notes than usual, the no human vocal percussion and as a great end to the surprises the incredible bass of Chance. Simply fabulous
On top of everything else, it is a very good song. Cam is a fine songwriter and if you watch her original you'll discover she has a fine voice as well. Home Free did her proud and I suspect introduced her to a wider audience, which included me!
13:50 The descant is the very first line of the song that Tim sang earlier. I believe the descant is also in Cam's original, although I'm not 100% sure on that.
As always, I love all of the Home Free guys! They are awesome and super talented and always sound great!
Hopefully they will perform this tomorrow night on their Birmingham leg of the European tour.
Actually in the stick part where austin sings, Chance does a F#1 to F#2 switch in the background.

You would love Home Free original lyric video written by Chance Skull And Bones they were asked to write a sea shanty by Ubisoft for their upcoming game Skull And Bones. They also sung it live at Ubisoft Live Premiere.

Loved watching you finally react to this one! Tim & that gigantic range - gets me every time!! Now I'm heading over to catch your Hoked on a Feeling.... That was always a great song back in my youth. Yes, I graduated high school in 1978, so the 70s & 80s is my music! But I love lots of stuff from really, really old stuff (1920s to todays music. (I mean, I have Pentaholic tattooed on my arm, so yeah! But I love all y'all's a capella stuff! 💜 I LOVE smoothe jazz too! (Btw, LOVED the Matt Sallee interview!)

I had the luxury of seeing Home Free in Norway and they were amazing! They did some new stuff as well as some of their absolute classics. I cant wait for you to get onto some more from So Long Dixie.
