Bro, thank you so much for watching. Thank you for reacting to this one, I dug your takes on it all. You're the first reactor I have seen who noticed the Grunt voice for what it was. Getting to randomly perform that and the plasma grenade (along with Red Team/Blue Team) was possibly my favorite part of making this whole thing. Also....Thank you for giving credit to the memorial message at the end. It means a lot to know our brother's story is still being shared.
I'm truly honored that you took the time to listen and comment, and I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed my breakdown! Seriously, one of my favorite a cappella pieces all-time (which is saying a lot) -- much love to you, VoicePlay, and everyone involved.
Fun bit of Halo lore, the Unggoy (aka, grunts), believe in reincarnation, and that "Not again" is a grunt believing he is a reincarnation of a grunt previously killed (allegedly by Master Chief). Always remember, Spartans never die, they are just missing in action. Keep a controller handy...I'm sure your brother is waiting to play co-op with you all again.
@@maeco7 I went a bit of a rabbithole researching this quote, and apparently, it's only really Debussy that said this. It has apparently been misattributed to Mozart. To answer the question, the "belting" by Cesar (starting at 5:52 in this reaction, 0:53 in the VoicePlay video) isn't actually words, but is part of the Halo: CE original sound track. I think (might have to check) it is part of the second track, called Truth and Reconciliation (after the third level of the game). If I remember correctly, the story behind it is that Marty O'Donnell, the original composer, wanted to add something extra to the track and had been up way too late for way too many days. In a spark of inspiration, he just started recording himself belting those sounds. They ultimately kept those sounds in as part of the background music. If you listen for it, you'll catch it. In VoicePlay's version, they highlight it.
I enjoy your analysis. Geoff said it was his lowest note and he had to get up early to make it. Scott Porter was the original beatboxer when VoicePlay started under another name. Thanks

Voiceplay is literally the best acapella group out there!!! They are absolutely amazing!!!! Also...I was like...thank God he said something about the grunt voice!!! Best reaction video I've seen!!!
This version of the Halo theme is just fan-freaking-tastic. Beung a Halo player myself it not only brings back so many great memories, but the tribute to their Halo buddy, and the absolute sonic tour de force of the music is an incredible combo.

First, and how VoicePlay would want it, Scott watched a LOT of reactions the day this released and commented personally not just to them, but to some of the fans as well. It shows the true heart of this group I think. Secondly, I agree with everything you said about this one. It's truly amazing.
Couldn't get here fast enough! I had never heard this and am still blown away after about 59 views/listens. Never have to ask "Can we go back"? or apologize for doing so with VoicePlay. As always, I love your reactions because you know what you're talking about. Thank you!
This was the first video game sound track I distinctly remember, it was the only one that created such a lasting impact on my brain that I can still pick it instantly. And they did it so much justice. The nostalgia is so real
You are always so serious in your reactions. It was actully really fun to watch you just totally geek out. This was my favorite reaction that you have done.
This is such an Epic Masterpiece! 🤯🔥💗. For some reason, it doesn't get the attention it deserves! Maybe it has to do with non-Halo players not appreciating it?? The arrangement, vocals, harmonies, video, editing, production, everything is freaking amazing!!! Scott was one of VP founding members, together with Geoff, Layne, Earl and Mykal. Scott was the beatboxer at the time. I believe he left around 2003 to pursue his acting career (kudos to Scott!). His message at the end is very touching!! Thanks for this analysis, Peter!! 💖
Yes, it breaks my heart a little bit that this one isn't getting enough attention! It's absolutely one of VoicePlay's best - such a beautiful interpretation. You can tell that it meant a lot to them.
If I wasn't a voiceplay fan I never had watched this video because I never played HALO. This masterpiece defenetly deserves more attention. It's the same with Hoist the colors or the Oogie Boogie Song. I never watched Pirates of the Carabean or Nightmare before Christmas.
Not a Halo player but I love this video! I also loved the red team blue team part as I used to be working in the same room when my son was watching red team blue team videos!
It is only released for 2 weeks now, it will gather more attention. It's up to us recomending it on gaming podcast channels. it might become THE most popular Voiceplay video after Oogie Boogie!
I'm not a gamer at all, never played Halo, never heard of it actually but I'm IN LOVE with this! anddd I started looking into playing halo and it looks really good!
I absolutely LOVED this one. Shows so much talent with their abilities with sounds, I feel like this REALLY allows to put those effects directly on display when there are no words to distract u from listening to all the little pieces. Amazing as always
As a big fan of Voiceplay and a super nostalgic fan of halo this is my favorite reaction to their version of the music ❤ Not only because he really enjoyed it but he is the first reactor (that I've seen thus far) to call out the voice Scott does as the Grunt voice 👍😁👍
Great reaction, you bring such a wealth of information on the structure and what each of the guys are doing. You might consider taking a look at "Just Sing" please be sure to turn on the captions. Voice Play plus lots and lots of past members and collaborators. Scott Porter is in it too. Scott was the original beatboxer, and Layne the baritone. When Scott left, Layne stepped in as beatboxer. Which puts a spin on the Red Team-Blue Team Scott and Layne do. Scott gets blown up after he starts beatboxing. There's a slight grin on Layne's face as he blows up the upstart who is beat boxing on his turf. Arrangement by Layne who also did the video editing.
Hello Peter, a little hello from France, I think the quote you were looking for about Mozart is " When you have just heard a piece of Mozart, the silence that follows is still his.". Keep up the good work, i really love your musical and professional singer and producer insights.👌
It was so fun watching you react to this one.....you were like a kid opening the best gift ever on Christmas morning. I've listened to this one myself a few times and it's amazing every single time. Thanks for doing it.
I always learn something from you (although a lot goes over my head), but this is the first time I have you react with so much enjoyment. It really added to the experience!
Halo was huge for me and my childhood. Every chance I got I played it, gradually getting every game and still play to this day...roughly 20 years of playing. This one takes the cake in terms of best acapella I've ever heard. I loved it and I'm sorry for them and their loss however I'm happy knowing they have this game that they can still enjoy together.
It's great you watched. Scott is one of the founding members. Yes he was the original beat boxer of the group. It shows in the 'red team/blue team' section, as that was him & Layne doing 'sounds'. In fact when Scott left, Layne had to learn to cover his spot beat boxing. Scott's main focus now is acting. He was in Friday Night Lights, The Good Wife, Hart of Dixie, Scorpion & Lucifer along with movies, episodic TV (Law & Order among others) & ironically has done voiceovers for multiple video games. He's sung with them on occasion over past few years, this is one of them.

this is only my 2nd time listening to this, and I agree....It is an awesome production. i never played halo, or listened to the sound track, and I still enjoy this one. We know music moves you and that's a huge reason we come. Please consider doing your reactions on a first watch from here out. We want the quote stupid faces! We want the first reaction!!! I'd love to see you do a reaction and analysis of PTX Dance of the Sugar plum Fairy, they have some similar video editing so that may be where the inspiration came from for VoicePlay. I don't think you caught it but briefly in this song Ceaser did some overtones sounds as well I believe in the middle around 7:30 he also did something that may also be more at about 11mins in.
I'm new to your channel and had to subscribe before I was through this video. You have lovely speaking voice and I really like everything in your reaction. I've been watching many VoicePlay reactions lately and it's nice to see different kind of reactions.
Not sure if it was intentional or not, but at 11:02 here, that little slide Geoff does sounds like the shields when they recover in the game too. The only difference is that the shield recover slides up the scale and Geoff is sliding down.
Thank your for your reaction. I really like your explanations. I'm looking forward to your Oogie Boogie reaction. It is also a masterpiece. And you defenetly should react to Monster Mash. It is so much fun. This is what I like Voiceplay/Geoff for.
I expect you have quite the backlog, and have done a lot of Voiceplay recently. But I love to see you dig into their rendition of Carry On Wayward Son. In my opinion, it is their best work to date.
Thought you'd like this. I had the same reaction. Nostalgia and so much influence this music has to so many, and they did it justice to the utmost detail.
Never played Halo so the theme music is new to me, but it's still amazing. Some really excellent riffs and near-scats. Voiceplay is really fun to watch, almost always. But as a Pentatonix fan, I have to comment on the video, because it's startlingly similar to "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" which they released in 2014. The exact same design, and several of the exact same elements. PTX won their second Grammy for it. I am uncertain how to take this similarity.
Everyone quotes Mozart and Debussy about the silence in music. Those are two of my favorites. But the one that always stuck with me was Miles Davis. He said "In music, silence is more important than sound."
Cesar DeLaRosa is the "new" guy and he is a genuinely awesome and cool human. He also sings with EJ Cardona (from Voctave) in another band. (Hawkmoon...I think?)
Hawkmoon Creative is an entertainment company. The groups Cesar and EJ are singing together in are Element and The Vybe. I think Hawkmoon represents them or something like that.
I bought a Xbox one and halo because of this song and the message after! I am connecting with all of my old buddies that used to bring TVs over and 50 foot cable to have a land party.
Enjoying reaction. FYI: As well aware, this is a video game theme Martin O'Donnell is an American composer known for his work on video game developer Bungie's series, such as Myth, Oni, Halo, and Destiny. O'Donnell collaborated with his musical colleague Michael Salvatori for many of the scores; he has also directed voice talent and sound design for the Halo trilogy. Watching the VoicePlay video with that in mind, see how it's becoming more animated, popping in/out & morphing into each other. It's not exactly detailed as Halo but it's good editing. - It would help if you listened to the original theme to hear how close they come to it even integrating the other sequels nuances into the theme. th-cam.com/video/0jXTBAGv9ZQ/w-d-xo.html --- After, re-listen with eyes closed. It's extremely close an a capella group can get. The central focus of the franchise builds on the experiences of Master Chief John-117, one of a group of super soldiers code-named Spartans, and his artificial intelligence (AI) companion, Cortana. The original trilogy centers on an interstellar war between humanity and an alliance of aliens known as The Covenant (hence red/blue teams). The Covenant, led by their religious leaders called the Prophets, worship an ancient civilization known as the Forerunners, who perished while defeating the parasitic Flood. Each sequel gets into more detail regarding the wars & alien beings. A few things: - Scott Porter I believe became Master Chief John-117. He has the build for it. Notice how he's centered a lot in this video and ends the video alone. [Understanding the CGI of the video game the sequels were animated using the CGI at the time, as each sequel came around, they became more advanced, smoother & realistic.
- Scott does sing, as stated before & in other comments, he was the original beat boxer of the group not Layne (he's also one of founding members). One can hear Scott & Layne doing the blue/red teams section with their beat boxing sounds.
13:13 There was already a professionally recorded B0 by Bobby in „My Boy“. Is that something you actually didn’t know about or did you just forgot about it?
Do you only react and analyse a cappella and more vocally centred music, or do you also delve into other music that are primarily instrumental like jazz fusion, etc? Cool analysis.
That quote of Mozart about the space between the notes: he said this in english in 2005 and in german in 2013. sadly he passed away in 1791. Also Beethoven of Debussy never said something like that. It is a myth 😮

Hahaha....enjoyed your true emotions while watching the video. Didnt know which to watch; you or voiceplay. Thanks for the analysis.
I went and watched Friday Night Lights a month ago and enjoyed it. I don't watch TV, but binge watched it.
I love your passion for music ❤❤. I've learned a lot just listening to your reactions
Glad you enjoyed this so much! It was fun watching you react to this. Oh, and it’s “Ellie (L-E),” not “E-lie.”
Peter, I never would’ve enjoyed this video without your analysis. Thanks for helping me hear and see all that I would’ve otherwise missed!
Happy to help!!
I agree with your assessment! This is my favorite of Layne's arrangement, and Hoist the Colors is my favorite of Geoff's. They're my two favorite VoicePlay covers
Scott is also in Lucifer. Great song & a Great reaction😊❤️. Looking forward to your next reaction😊❤️
Only for a few episodes but yes
this is only my 2nd time listening to this, and I agree....It is an awesome production. i never played halo, or listened to the sound track, and I still enjoy this one. It is amazing how they were bouncing to and from each other, and the video enhanced it by visually showing that. have you had a pit viper show up that early before? Great reaction. Also, it is your reaction....you don't really need to ask us if you can roll it back ;)
Love your perspective on these. These guys are so amazing.
Always love your reaction and analysis. Never a gamer, it's been interesting to see your reaction, it helps me understand that world. Voiceplay is my favorite, glad you are along for the ride!
Since you experienced the premiere, it's Awesome that it still gets to you😖😖😮👍
no way this man just unironically said “three winters ago”
That made me chuckle too
Currently reading through A Song of Ice and Fire so occasionally I speak like a Stark 😂
Scott was the beat boxer in high school for voiceplay until he became an actor
Awesome video! Thank you for the reaction! The song was awesome, but it was nice to see you enjoying it along with the analysis you gave, makes the video that much better! Awesome arrangement they did!
We love the breakdowns... but sir! We are here for reactions! We love to see people react involuntarily to our favorite parts to our favorite pieces. We know music moves you and that's a huge reason we come. Please consider doing your reactions on a first watch from here out. We want the quote stupid faces! We want the first reaction!!! Much respect and love brother!
100% agree, it would add a lot to the already awesome analisis/breakdown
Yep, obviously not possible for most things but for newer songs such as this it’s Just seems pointless
Thanks for this reaction/analysis Peter. My wife and I were talking and said that this song would be an excellent workout song!
Love ya stuff Peter!
Yes, wondered if Peter noticed the overtones 😊
I'm new to your channel and had to subscribe before I was through this video. You have lovely speaking voice and I really like everything in your reaction. I've been watching many VoicePlay reactions lately and it's nice to see different kind of reactions.
Thanks for subbing!!
Yeah. Ceasar KILLS it on this song.
Geoff also did a brief B0 in High and Dry.
Best reaction I've seen, thanks for sharing
I love your reactions. I can’t believe I missed this one earlier.
Am I the only one that gathered that the bass gang is putting out a song this month? Is this a dream?!?!?!?
You’re not dreaming. It’s coming at the end of this morning.
Oh yes, when the new guy ( Cesar ) does his high native chant was in the original but you hear it in the background in the original.
I expect you have quite the backlog, and have done a lot of Voiceplay recently. But I love to see you dig into their rendition of Carry On Wayward Son. In my opinion, it is their best work to date.
I saw your eyebrow raise at that second B0 sub, and you're right - he did do it the first time too
Best Reaction so far
This is a real treasure to add to their arsenal.
13:25 OMG Peter I can’t wait😝😂
Thought you'd like this. I had the same reaction. Nostalgia and so much influence this music has to so many, and they did it justice to the utmost detail.
Never played Halo so the theme music is new to me, but it's still amazing. Some really excellent riffs and near-scats. Voiceplay is really fun to watch, almost always.
But as a Pentatonix fan, I have to comment on the video, because it's startlingly similar to "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" which they released in 2014. The exact same design, and several of the exact same elements. PTX won their second Grammy for it. I am uncertain how to take this similarity.
i was in over 35 episodes of friday night lights. was a fun tv show to be a part of.
That's so cool! Really loved that show
@@PeterBarber i was in the Friday Night Lights movie, as well.
Everyone quotes Mozart and Debussy about the silence in music. Those are two of my favorites. But the one that always stuck with me was Miles Davis. He said "In music, silence is more important than sound."
Love the reaction and video as always. Voiceplay month is my favorite month. Can't wait for your Oogie Boogie Song reaction.
@@Debs_Badger thank you! My brain went blank entirely. You are correct!!
Scott was the groups original beatboxer 20 years ago. Layne took over when he left.
I bought a Xbox one and halo because of this song and the message after! I am connecting with all of my old buddies that used to bring TVs over and 50 foot cable to have a land party.
7:35 Hey did you hear the overtone here?
I'm so happy to have two big subs. My neighbors know now, i'm alive.
Enjoying reaction.
FYI: As well aware, this is a video game theme
Martin O'Donnell is an American composer known for his work on video game developer Bungie's series, such as Myth, Oni, Halo, and Destiny.

--- After, re-listen with eyes closed.
A few things:
- Scott Porter I believe became Master Chief John-117.
Check out Elizabeth Zharoff’s reaction to this with the original composer.
Scott was one of the original members of the group.
I. Fricken. LOVE. the Halo 2 theme song. UGHH yes
Here’s a suggestion : Lonesome road - Tim Storms.
I just want to say that your "dumb faces" are still really cute. I loved how you nerded out over this.
hehehe thank you ❤
Screw sleep...needed to watch your reaction to this one!!!
13:13 There was already a professionally recorded B0 by Bobby in „My Boy“. Is that something you actually didn’t know about or did you just forgot about it?
I embarrassingly remembered that after I had recorded this video lol
That first note is actually a B0 submonic
Nope it's the second one it's E1-B0
Silence is very important. The silence between the notes are as important as the notes themselves-
Mozart
Mongolian throat singing. As a master of those beautiful resonating low notes you will apprecieate it. The hu is a good one.
Causally hits the g5 😂
