Wayne, you are brave. This is the single worst engineered kit I have ever encountered. Just wait until you get to the rings around the edge of the saucer and the four-part engineering hull. I disagree with attempting to the shine lights from the bridge. The saucer top and bottom lights were done with dental mirrors. There is no way to have an accurate bridge that shines lights on to the saucer face.
Nice video. I haven't built a model kit in decades and have just started again with the 1:650 TOS Enterprise that I got for Christmas a year ago. I've learned a lot, like how to airbrush and glue, putty and sand properly from TH-camrs like yourself. I hope to learn from this and a few other kits before eventually giving the 1:350 refit a go. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and skill!
Wow! I love your patience with this. I l really enjoy watching you build these models, Wayne. This is going to look fantastic when you are finished. Can't wait for your next Enterprise refit video. See you next time.
Nice! I've been working on this for the past 2 years! Yes. Every time I get the sides installed on the saucer, I get annoyed because it's not perfect and start over! Maybe with these videos I'll try and make some progress!
Just received my kit and are mentally preparing myself for many months of tackling the project. The thing is huge! While I also wanted to have a visible bridge for mine, but after seeing how tiny & difficult it will be to work with the photoetch version (I am not an advanced modeler by any stretch), I decided when the time comes, to get mine from Shapeways. It will cost a little more, but it comes fully assembled (the seats already installed) and will just need to be painted and think that is a better option for someone with less experience and the proper tools. I also like the fact they have the option of TMP, TWOK, TFF and TUC versions, while with the photoetch one is stuck with TWOK. Personally, I've always liked the TMP version best, where the science station is aft.
you can tell that GS bridge is not for "the Motion Picture" bridge. in the motion Picture, Spock's station was directly behind the Captain (between the the two turbolifts) after that it was moved to the left of the left turbolift.
I am SO glad you are doing this series. I also have a 1:350 refit Enterprise I'll be building soon, and I'm a bit intimidated by it. Seeing you work your way through each part, including aftermarket parts I'm thinking of getting, is going a long way to reducing my anxiety!
I am one of those who have this kit in my stash, and occasionally bring it out to look at, then put it back in the box! If I build it it will be out of the box - no lighting! I am looking forward to your build. I am also watching Phil's build on Sprueverse, and I have dug through Lou's channel and seen his videos too. I have subscribed today so I won't miss anything. I was also going to mention the wax pencil for small parts, as others have already done. P.S. I love the Thursday livestream too.
Great video and looking forward to seeing your experiences building this intimidating model Wayne, also very nice to see someone using the Green Strawberry bridge, I think you are the first I have seen using one for a build. Keep up the good work!!
Hi Wayne, sorry I'm late with this. Things have been hectic around here. I'm still trying to get my house sorted out. I'm old and slow. Hope you're both doing well. I'll be enjoying every one of these "episodes" for this build for sure. It's quite the challenge this kit is. I'm so looking forward to the time I can start these kits. I'll be building two of them. I've got a "twist" of an idea for the second version of it. Loving the detail you'll put into this.
Nice work so far, you've just reminded me I have a dentist appointment coming up with all that grinding! Green Strawberry? Isn't that Lou's favourite model company!!!!? Looking forward to more
Great work so far! I have watched Boyd’s (aka TrekWorks), series of videos on the 1:350 Enterprise Refit from years ago. It was amazing work. Can’t wait until video number 3 (aka Part 2).
Just to make things a little easier with your dress pin and superglue, instead of cutting the pin when gunked up, get a cigarette lighter and put the glued end in the fire. It will all burn away, then just wipe the end off. Good as new.
Great video Wayne! The 1:350 Refit is my favorite ship so I can't wait to see how the build goes. I one day too shall tackle the beast and these videos are just pricelss.
A good reliable light block method I use is to undercoat the inside of the parts black then spray them silver to allow the light to reflect for a more even light fill.
Looks great, love the bridge. It looks like you have the Star trek 2 bridge with the science station off to the side in which case the chairs should be all white in color.
Looking forward to watching this build. This is my favorite version of the Enterprise and kinda went a little over board. got the masks for the 5 color paint, movie grade lighting kit and, photoetch parts. Amazing how fast it starts to adds up. still need to get the pearls yet.
Hi Wayne. Im just making a piececool The Queen Anne's Revenge. It's all photo etch, at the end I will either be really good with photo etch or insane. One thing I have is a wax pencil, they are ideal for picking up photo etch, in fact I don't know how I managed to do without one. I can highly recommend one you won't regret it. Keep up the good work.
Looking good. !!! Can't wait to see it finished. Suggestion: You should use your sand stick to take the nubs off the photoetch parts. You can see them.
This build is going to be awesome. Just a few useless facts . I noticed from the last videos description that you have references from TWOK. It does appear that on the greenstrawberry bridge, Spocks Station is on the side as it is in TWOK . In the TMP , Spock Station is more Aft. ( might be wrong. If so I stand corrected) . The same bridge for TWOK is used in TSFS. So bottom line is if you have the right bridge ( I think) . One thing though. I hope you not thinking I am nitpicking but you might want to pick up a glass slab or smooth tile to cut photoetch. If you using a cutting mat it can cause the photoetch to bend . It can then be difficult to bend back . That said I enjoyed both the videos on this build so far . Looking very much forward to the next.
Hello Wayne, that's so cool amazing this starship USS Enterprise refit I like this ship. I have a model of this starship & USS Reliant too. Besides I have the star wars Jedi Star fighter. ❤️💘👍🤗😁😀
Hard working with small photo etch pieces like that. What I usually do with small pieces like that is I will wet a toothpick with a little Pledge floor polish (or Future floor polish) and its just enough tack to pick the piece up and set it into place where the glue bond is strong enough to overcome the polish bond.
At some point, when you're feeling particularly masochistic may I suggest that you try Mobius's USS Discovery from "2001: A space odyssey". It's taken from the actual blueprints that were drawn up for the movie and is 100% Accurate (There are some photo etch kits to push it even farther though.) It's around 5ft (1.52M) if I remember correctly. You will need a metal rod in it to support though. Looks absolutely stunning when done though.
Looking good so far, but a mild criticism about the Green Strawberry product. The resin is fine with nice details and the photoetch works great, but the decals will fight back hard. My experience with them was them lifting off no problem, then immediately curling up and not adhering in any way. I've ended up scanning them and reprinting them on my printer. Hopefully yours work better but maybe you have a better set or solutions.
Great work so far! Although honestly not sure how I feel about having that bright searchlight in front. I know everyone does it that way but it always looks way too intense to me compared to what's on screen.
Morning Wayne. I would say if you are grinding or cutting resin parts, then I would recommend a mask to be used. The resin dust can be nasty if inhaled. Also i was going to mention if you are thinking of sanding down the phaser banks so they don't cast a shadow with your registry light. you can use resin later on to put the 2 little bumps back in. Keep up the amazing work
I have a lot of issues with trying to glue things small I either get my fat fingers on it and or my tweezers. No matter how little I put on. I got a lot of models plastic to do. Still want to do my jaws diorama that got put aside till I can get my resin and building up. Along with other models. But this is looking good Wayne I’ll let you professionals. Do these I’m just not that good yet
I own 2 of these and in the middle of one build but it's a kind of frustrating build trying to fit it all together. Don't get me wrong I don't mind getting after market parts and spending some money but this kit on the lower hull doesn't fit right together so I've been doing the Agora Bismarck instead. Great seeing you take this on. You'll do great 👍
Hi Wayne, hope you feel better soon 🙂 Just wondering all these models that you do like the xwing, Valentino Rossi bike the tumbler and Ford gt 40 we don't get any of these in Australia, do you know if we can get them here, I can't even subscribe to them because they don't send them here, the only one is Agora, anyway thanks Phil

Hey bud got another question the uograde bridge i can use the 1701a on this model also? Hi Wayne. If you are going to be using photo etch in the future with tiny pieces again use a wax pencil to pick up the bits. will make it easier.
