btw I LOVE your videos. You're hardcore man! No one here is so methodical and detailed, it shows you really love machines, like what you do and do it well!
Thank you. The details in your video are exellent. I had my Troy built working in 15 minutes. I spent hours taking apart the darn carburator and putting it back together with no result before finding your magic video on youtube.
Excellent video, the close-ups really help. Went out and tackled a 825R Ryobi weed wacker that wouldn't stay running. Found debris next to the diaphragms/gaskets. All clean now, runs like a cat with gasoline on its backside. Felt a million time safer disassembling/reassembling after watching your video - thanks!
The tip about using a wire brush to clean the jet out is was great. I actually use a new grill cleaning brush but it worked great. Thanks for a very instructional video!
Thanks Man!!! This video was the ultimate sanity check for me since my Troy Bilt Weed eater decided to be non-complaint and would not start. I carefully took the carb apart and and put it back together again, but your comments during the inspection and assembly definitely helped and it works fine again.
Thanks for the excellent video! I have a Craftsman (MTD) that sat with old gas in it for 3 years. The carb was similar enough that I was able to take it down, clean it, reassemble, freshen up the spark plug, oil and gas and it fired right up!
Great great video. Was struggling to work on my Troy Built TB475SS and after watching this video I knew exactly how to properly disassemble it and dip most of the carb. Works perfect after that, thanks!
Thanks for posting. a tip: I use guitar strings to clean out jets and the tiny holes in lawnmower carbs. there are lots of sizes - wound and plain steel.. I keep my used ones for this or just the cut off ends when re-stringing ... they work like a charm!
Thank you a ton, Donyboy. The Walbro website has diagrams for this type of carb- but they show the pump diaphragm and gasket reversed position- and take it from me- it don't work that way. Your video got my leaf blower going again! Original issue was dying a slow death after running for 10 mins or so--just gradual lowering rpms. Pretty sure tha was valve adjustment- but this is my first small 4-cycle- and I missed it and went right to the carb. As soon as I saw you placing that diaphragm over the gasket I knew the issue- when I sawyou on this video I knew this would be the last one I had to look at from your reputation on previous videos I've seen from you. Thanks for saving an old guy to your south from a possible heart attack! Now for the nasty letter to Walbro...
My Troybilt would not start at all. I had never taken apart a carburetor before. I followed your directions and gave it a good cleaning including blowing out the jet and submerging it in carb cleaner. I put it back together and it started up immediately. My guess is the jet was clogged. Many thanks to you for your instruction!
Nice vid! I did two, two cyle whackers, a four cycle whacker and a two cycle blower today. I did find out that if the thing has been setting for a while, the plastic carb piece under the primer bulb may glue itself shut with gas schelac. My primer bulb wouldnt work at all after a full cleaning, so I took it apart again and ran a small screwdriver around the lip of the rubber cup. No more worries after that. It works great! Ace hardware usually have the primers in stock. Thats where I got mine.
Fantastic video. Wish I had seen this sooner. My TB475SS uses this carb and hasn't wanted to stay running after I finally got around to changing out the cracked bulb and lines. Going to tear it down and hit everything with carb cleaner. Thanks again!
plenty now watching ur vids lol, re built a mac 250 20 years ago, worked on me own gear, repaired my own, worked mostly on cars, vans and lorrys, this last 32 years, worked on, fiat, mitsubishi, daihatsu, main dealership,on me own since 1985,
Some carbs that look EXACTLY like this one don't have the silver spring under the diaphragm gasket. If it is suppose to have the spring it will have a round seat where the spring sets. Drove me crazy once because I thought I had lost a spring that never was there.
tried for 2 hrs to start trimmer yesterday, would only fire up when I put gas in carb and run for a few seconds,,,today followed info in video (cleaned only no kit),,,after putting back together, pressed bulb 13 times for luck,,pulled cord 4 times, moved lever to 2 and trimmer started on first pull,,,,runs like new,,thanks for great video...
Excellent video. I had been looking everywhere for the primer bulb part number, and you included it in this rebuild. Thanks, you really helped me out. :)
Reminds me of taking a watch completely apart. How did that work? NOT TO GOOD. But after this video I'm going to get right on my four cycle carburetor. Great detail in how to clean or rebuild the carburetor.Thank You
Excellent video! I scoured the web to find out the part number for my Craftmans 4 cycle gas trimmer's primer bulb. Sears doesn't sell the primer separately, requiring you to shell out $65 for the whole carb. I noticed that the carb and power head assemble looks exactly like my Craftsman trimmer. Found the part on Amazon and ordered it immediately. Thanks!
hey donyboy73, would you be able to make a comparison video of a ryobi 4 cycle trimmer and various other trimmers to see, which one sounds better, has most power, and which is easiest to start.
Thanks for the video. I tore mine down but was unable to get the throttle cable off and didn't take that linkage off following the throttle linkage. But thanks to your vid I now know how to do that. I hope that metering valve is good or I will be tearing it down again but with a better idea how to clean it.
i have a makita bhx2500 4 cycle leaf blower worked great when it worked anyways cleaned out the carb completely and after the bought a i believe it was a k20 wyl rebuild kit machine will start and throttle up but the minute you let go of the trigger it dies played with the idle adjustment screw but doesn't seem to matter I'm lost don't what else to do other than buying a whole new carb which i really rather not do there not to cheap any suggestions would be appreciated thank you . btw you have great informative videos
Great job! Thank you. I rebuilt the carb on my TB425CS based on your very well done video and it now runs great. We had the situation where it would start and idle but when you pulled the trigger it would bog down and stall. We adjusted the valves first - didn't help. When then rebuilt the carb using your directions and the TB Carb kit. Everything look great except the diaphram under the spring - i am guessing that was the root cause. One more - thanks!!
Hey thanks for the great vids. I have a Troy Bilt 4 cycle trimmer that would not start. After watching this vid and using a rebuild kit, the trimmer will at least start!. However, as with Homer, mine stalls when the trigger is engaged. Since there is only an idle adjustment, what else could be the problem? Are there other adjustments or compression problems I could be having? Thanks again for the great vids and help. DB
What is the hole in the metering diaphragm for on the side opposite the fuel line. It is the oval area. The new metering diaphragm you put in doesn't cover that area like the one you took out. Doesn't that cause a problem?
i have a troy bilt 26cc 4 stroke that looks exactly like this!!! u recken this would be a good engine to put on a bicycle???? it sounds like it has got tons of power.. what do you think??
Hey, I got a Ryobi 4-cycle Refurb. and it starts up great, idles fine, and revs up okay but when I start cutting into some weeds it dies out. All parts on it are new and works great but I can't cut anything thicker than grass. Would adjusting the hi screw crank up the power on throttle? Thanks
Thank you for the video. I followed along after I took the paper gasket off the carb on the manifold side. Now, I think air is leaking in there as I can only run the engine on full choke. What should I use to stick it back to the carb? Just normal paint on gasket sealer?
Hi Danny I wanna start by saying that your videos have helped me a lot so thank you for that. I was wondering if you could help me, I cleaned and replaced everything I could replace on this carburetor and even cleaned it in my sonic cleaner machine but this is turning on and running only on full throttle but once I release my throttle it dies on me even with the throttle screw fully in. I cleaned exhaust screen, new fuel lines and fuel filter as well but just dies when I let go of throttle. Any ideas?
Thanks for the great video. Could you please help me identify the cone shaped spring that sits under the mid body diaphram. I lost it during the rebuild and I can't seem to find it on any of the Walbro parts diagrams to get a part number. Thank you!
Awesome video. I have one question-I broke that cardboard seal where the carb meets the engine...do I need to apply gasket sealant or something? I put it back together and its working fine. PS-my kit came with extra gaskets. Just somethign to be aware of. And an extra big needle. I have a craftsman (mtd?) weedwacker that has much much less power than a ryobi.
Good Video i have a yard machines trimmer like this one what are the sizes of the 2 fuel lines ???????????? and where can i get a fuel tank for this one ????????????????????? searches all over not made any more
super video, I do have a question.... Have you ever used a Ultra Sonic Cleaners? I bought one, and my son in law has used it on motorcycle carbs, and they come out looking brand new. He uses water mixed with Dawn Dish Washing Detergent, it's unbelievable how clean they come out..
First I've heard of these types of cleaners. Could you share which one you're using as I see there's a lot of different types? I'm always cleaning carbs and would like one to fit snowmobile/motorcycle carbs
I notice there are 2 different carbs that where used on a Ryobi 825r.A 791-182654 and 753-1225 what is the difference and will the k20-wyl kit cover them both?
I have a Ryobi 4 stroke Model X430 (RY34001) I have learned that it is also the same as the Ryobi trimmers RY34441 and RY34421. It has a Ruixing carb with no markings other than the mfg. name and #129 cast into the metering body. I have been unable to find a rebuild kit anywhere. The diaphram under the primer bulb assembly is the gasket that I have been unable to identify in any kit. This video shows two gaskets in this location but mine is a single piece. I took it apart but the gaskets did not seperate very easily and although there are no tears I'm sure I lost some integrity because now it wont start. Before I disassembled it would sputter ocassionally and not throttle up without hesitating and then quit. Sorry for the long saga but can you help me identify a suitable rebuild kit. Thanks! Great video also.
did you ever find a rebuild kit? if so please post. I hear the carbs are cheap $ also. I cleaned mine out but not the jet under the plunger. I bet that's where the problem is. ///Ryobi 430s -carb issues after not using all winter
hope you are still checking this. what is the part that the throttle cable goes into. that metal piece that looks like a flat head screw. I can't find mine. where would you purchase a spare
Not sure about your model but I have a Troy-Bilt 6040 XP and the throttle plate is located on the opposite side of the carburetor body from the primer bulb. It's a boomerang-shaped piece of hard plastic (under the idle-adjustment screw) that has a small hole near the bottom. Your throttle cable should have an S-shaped bend on the end of it. Thread the end of the throttle cable through the hole in the throttle plate until it fits snugly with the bend in the cable resting snugly on the shoulder of the hole in the throttle plate. Hope this helps but sounds like you may have a different model than I do. Sorry, don't have any part numbers....the manual is a joke if you want to do any repairs.
Excellent video as always. I have one question though. I have the s 430 but the newer version. Is there a way to upgrade the carb. I was having issues with the carb and I had ordered one for my Echo and hadn't put it on. Anyhow I put that carb on it and it started right away but died if I opened the choke. I like to tinker around with these little engines and this is my first 4 cycle which by the way found on the side of the road in Burlington so buying a new carb is no big investment but as I said before can a different carb be adapted to these engine. I have seen videos where the carb is always messing around and why does it die when the choke is opened? I don't have the tool for adjustment but already ordered I just don't know how to adjust it. Well thanks a lot for your videos I learn a lot usually.
Thank you for this video. I have a four cycle edger with this carb and it will not open up at full throttle. It runs like it’s missing at full throttle. The throttle cable connector is different on mine. It’s the Z type connection. Also, what size fuel line did you use? Thanks!
This looks like my carb, now if I could just find a rebuild kit for it. The metering diaphragm in the kit you list in the video is different from the one you took out. I've looked at dozens of kits but none of them have a metering diaphragm that matches mine. If anyone knows where to find one a link would be great. Walbro doesn't even list mine on their site.
I have a weed eater just like that but it will only run on full throttle then die. I have rebuilt the carb and cleaned it. Do you have any suggestions?
Hello I have a bike berry 38cc 4 stroke engine and on the card I have 2 fuel lines coming off the carb and 1 going from the fuel tank to the carb what do you do with the 2 lines that are on the carb all I need is to know is what do I do with the 2 lines that are already on the carb Thank you
on my Ryobe 430s 4 stroke 30 cc it has 2 lines as well. Both go from carb to tank. I believe the second one is a return/over flow from the primer pump.
my question is after my c430 4 cycle unit sat for a couple years I replaced the carb, plug, tank float, lines and got it to run/start good, my problem is the unit under hard acceleration dies back on deacceleration, is this normal? how can I fix this?
I replaced the carburetor with a new one and after 3 usages I started having issues with it running. It will idle fine but after I throttle it up for about 15 seconds it acts like it is flooding. Once it is fulling warmed up I cannot throttle up at all without it dieing. I use the same gas in my mower without problems. I also have a new air filter. Any suggestions?
Also the metering section is plastic. There are no screws to remove so you can replace the metering lever and etc. It might be clipped in but I'm afraid to try and force it.
Thanks for all the helpful videos you do! One question, Is the primer bulb available as a spare part anywhere? I can't seem to find one online without having to buy the entire carb. Thanks Again!
I have a Walbro WYC-4 Carb. It looks exactly the same as your's but the Jet will not come out. I've tried everything. There is a small hole at the edge.
My carb doesn't have that spring @6:00 !!! It's the same carb Walbro WYL for a Shindaiwa T230. It even has the notch to settle the spring but mine had no spring inside. I checked the parts catalogue and the spring doesn't show either. Anyone help?
I've been told not to use carb cleaner on small engine carburetors. Apparently, it's too harsh and can damage the plastic parts (primer bulb, seals). My local small engine mechanic told me brake cleaner works just as well without the negative impact on plastic parts.
btw I LOVE your videos. You're hardcore man! No one here is so methodical and detailed, it shows you really love machines, like what you do and do it well!

so you didnt comment on what happens if you break the seal on the gasket, which i did. Will it leak air there now or what?

I have this trimmer, what does it mean when the primer no longer pulls fuel from tank?
I replaced the carburetor with a new one and after 3 usages I started having issues with it running. It will idle fine but after I throttle it up for about 15 seconds it acts like it is flooding. Once it is fulling warmed up I cannot throttle up at all without it dieing. I use the same gas in my mower without problems. I also have a new air filter. Any suggestions?
Also the metering section is plastic. There are no screws to remove so you can replace the metering lever and etc. It might be clipped in but I'm afraid to try and force it.
I feel like I am in Small Engine University! Great job!

Thanks for all the helpful videos you do! One question, Is the primer bulb available as a spare part anywhere? I can't seem to find one online without having to buy the entire carb. Thanks Again!
Scott Lorenze yes it is walbro 188-12-1
I have a Walbro WYC-4 Carb. It looks exactly the same as your's but the Jet will not come out. I've tried everything. There is a small hole at the edge.
Excellent format, information and presentation. Thanks.
@joe18370 i have a carb rebuild of a 2 cycle toro
@ekdahlj good job! make sure to subscribe
was the trimmer hydro locked
My carb doesn't have that spring @6:00 !!! It's the same carb Walbro WYL for a Shindaiwa T230. It even has the notch to settle the spring but mine had no spring inside. I checked the parts catalogue and the spring doesn't show either. Anyone help?
does a mtd pro weed eater come with a screen
sounds like the valves need adjusting
I've been told not to use carb cleaner on small engine carburetors. Apparently, it's too harsh and can damage the plastic parts (primer bulb, seals). My local small engine mechanic told me brake cleaner works just as well without the negative impact on plastic parts.
Request an Echo Carburetor Rebuild
i have rebuilt a carb on a troy built tb 475ss which is the same weed eater as that one,lol
Great vid u save me some money on a new trimmer.
most mechanics and shops don't work on those because they get so problematic even after hours and hours of labor
These engines are based on the old Ryobi OHV design of the early '90s. They just aren't as durable as the original.
